Wow! 5 months after? Have you tried to send them an email? I suspect that the process has changed because we are in March and i am yet to get an email for our interview. Based on the email i got sent a few years ago when i first attempted this process, they kept to their 12 months timeline then email with an Interview date. It seems all that has changed and there's no email either to at least keep us updated. It's exhausting.

Well I applied march last year too but they increased the waiting time to 1 year 6 months. tiring

Hi Everyone,

I had been observing from afar for about 6 months now and just reading comments so that I could know what to expect for my husband's visa process. Here's a timeline of how my husband's visa application process went:

September 2021: Applied for appointment date (he was just my fiance then so you don't have to wait till you're married to book for a date as I read recently)
October 2022: Got interview date
November 2022: Had interview. Interviewer told him that the verification and A1 certificate is not necessary. i think this is because at the time my application to transition from student visa to blue card was still pending and he mentioned to them that I had applied for a blue card. The interviewer told him to bring back older pictures of us LOL, which he also submitted in November.

We didn't hear anything from either embassy or ABH between November and February. I wrote ABH in February to ask for a status update and they said I had to wait for my resident permit to be issued before they can continue with my husband's application. In the meantime, the salary requirement for blue card increased in 2023 and I had to switch from a blue card application to a resident permit for employment purposes.

March 14, 2023: Had interview to change my resident status from student to worker. I was told they will not process my husband's visa until I have physically picked up the permit, which took another 6 weeks.

April 26, 2023: Picked up resident permit

May 4: Got a letter from the ABH that some documents were not properly filled. So I filled them correctly and sent it back that same May 4.

After a week later, I called the embassy and asked for an update since i did not hear anything from the ABH. They said I have to wait and the lady I spoke to wasn't very nice anyway. i sent an email as well after my call asking for an update.

May 16: Got the email to submit passport, travel insurance and travel dates.

May 18: Submitted all documents.

May 26: Got passport back with visa and all documents.

His travel date is not until August since we only had the legal wedding last year, so we plan to do the church wedding before we both leave for Germany. All we had to do was submit travel insurance and ticket itinerary and made sure they matched, and they issued his visa to commence on his exact day of exit from Nigeria.

Gosh the whole anxiety concerning this process is something else, I was the one with the anxiety and my husband was chill the whole time LOL.I pray everyone who is waiting will be granted their visa cause this thing is not easy.

Hi there, I am following this same route - and I just wanted to be sure If my wife needs to do a name change on her passport before the appointment

rejection is only dificult at the begining of one;s career. Once you start getiing further with offers here and there, few rejections do not hurt anymore.

Because you start having the mindset, that if it is met for you, it won't slip

I am happy for you.

I didn't understand all my husband was saying about loneliness and missing family before I came.

Now that I am here, I agree, this is a cold country, literally and figuratively and one shouldn't be alone here at all.

Congrats. May it all end well.

I am pleased to write you all that I got a response from the German embassy this afternoon😂 I am so happy and I believe someone from the embassy read all our write ups, if you’re working at the embassy and saw my messages and acted on it, may God bless you , may all your heart desires come to fulfilment and your expectations will never be cut short. I sent them an email yesterday stating the current state of my son, with an attachment of my previous verification mail, my son’s new reference number and my old reference number, my toddler will be having an interview next month, I’ve been away from my child for 4 month now, But now I can confidently travel back to Nigeria to take care of him and also run his appointment and all. Nairlanders thanks for giving me a platform to share.

Omo this put a smile on my face. Great way to start the year. Congratulations 🎈

The info's here are really helpful. I'm kinda new here and please I need advice anyone that knows.

My husband is currently working in Germany, He applied for family reunion visa appointment on 27th December 2022 I got appointment date on 6th January 2023. Note: we have 2 kids below 4 years. So I'm applying for I and 2 of my kids.
I'm in the process of putting together my documents. My questions are,

1. what does the declaration of age of parent or Head of family look like? Will it be hand written by them or typed??

2. I don't have the A1 language certificate yet. I'm sitting for it on the 24th of January 2023 will this have any effect on my visa application??

Is your husband on Blue Card?

Na wa o. My spouse is a blue card holder, though, so no need for verification. Hence, why I’d thought the process would have been faster.
September is a long time sha.

Bro I want to be sure about something

For blue card, there is no lawyer verification in the family reunion process yeah? Like the lawyers don’t get to go to your origin and do all those long check?

Secondly will the embassy only accept court wedding documents? Do they require evidence of traditional or white wedding (for blue card holders)

Hello fellow nairalanders
I need help please
I went for the skilled immigrant visa interview under the fast track with pre approval with my husband.
We have been waiting for over three weeks post interview and we are yet to get a response from the embassy.
I even called to make enquiries some days back and they were totally dismissive and informed me national visa takes 3months to be granted.
Is there anyone that has applied with a preapproval with family and has gotten visa within three weeks?
P.s They are with my passport and yet I am supposed to wait for three months:

Lol, the second name of ther german process is patience, I am 100 percent sure that the final response will be positive , so you just gats free your mind small

Good morning N/L
Please I would appreciate it if anyone who base in Germany and currently reside in cologne is here, please I want to find out if one can go to the foreign office without appointment... This is really really giving us a huge headache already...
Hubby moved to new city and his documents which includes his wife's visa application was sent to new city since Sept 29 but up till now new city claims they've not seen it... We are tired and confused because hubby has sent old city email and they said they are 100% sure the documents didn't lost... Please advice on what to do..... I will really really appreciate your response

Well I live in a nearby city and asides picking up of my blue card every sort of appointment must be booked on the website of the City’s foreign office. So let him visit the website if there is a category of appointment that suits his issue. He can still call the hotline or outrightly go and see if there’s someone he can complain to. They can only decline

YES, 6 companies in 5 years, including 2 offers on the UK and Germany , and yes, I have never gotten a job by referral.

Everything has been on the internet, including the first job that brought me to Lagos from nowhere.

I am not invested in networking at all, I just build my expertise for the next job and sprinkle God;s grace

Needless to say I graduated with 2:2

Lol I moved to Germany August this year. Guessed who is forking out 4K euro to visit home December? Yes that’s me!

I’m totally zoned out , I work from home and most days I go by without talking to a single soul. I’m happy for my career but bring stuck in abroad for so long is not for me. This feeling of emptiness won’t end me Amen.

Just like the OP said I realised that finance is the reason most people don’t visit naija when they leave
. No place like home. Moving abroad single is easier but it’s not worth it

My appointment date is close now. shocked

Please is this the correct thing to fill for this section? It's for a job and there's no end date.

Also, for this section, should we fill both middle name and first name in the first name field? OR only first name?
Embassy site says to fill it as it appears on your passport, and my passport has (Surname) (Middle name) (First name), but no field for middle name.

You can leave blank or put indefinite

JFYI, I was asked to bring payslip to verify one of my past foreign work experience. So anyone who is applying or has applied for a blue card visa should bear in mind that they can ask for you to provide bank statements to verify your work experience

Congratulations man!

I did not apply with pre-approval but my Masters degree is from a German University

Well from experience I think going to the embassy with preaproval from the foreigners authority is as good as getting your visa approved. I also think (I stand to be corrected) that the consequence of not applying for visa with the pre-approval letter is that the embassy now has to liaise with the foreigners authority, who then has to contact your employer or something of sorts which leads to delay.

With preaproval however your visa takes max of 3 weeks. I got mine within 2 weeks or thereabout.

Just to update on this, pre-approval is still not out, the relocation manager from my office said when they followed up, the labor office said there is delay because of Ukraine situation. Anyways I went ahead and applied for visa without it as I was running out of time ( I applied from another EU country which my visa there expires in few weeks to avoid Nigerias long wait for appointment) and got a response the next working day.

okay, yest the Ukrainian Situation is making things dilficult as regards migration and residency for foreigners. Have you had your appointment now?
