Will burning the truck bring the girl to life or will it prevent further accidents. We should learn to talk intelligently. You don't know what happened. Or you think the driver's set out goal for that day was to go look for an innocent girl on the road and run her down with the truck? I sight u! |

United States President, Donald Trump, has described his predecessor, Barack Obama as a “bad guy.” Hide quoted text In a series of tweets on his twitter handle, Trump said “bad guy” Obama tapped his calls during the last President election that saw him emerged victorious. The US President said the tapping of his phones took place “just prior to the election” in November. According to Trump, a good lawyer could make a case out of the alleged act. He wrote: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism. “How low has President Obama gone to tapp (sic) my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy.” “I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election! “Is it legal for a sitting President to be “wire tapping” a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!”

Abuja - Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday cleverly avoided to be dragged into the raging controversy over who nominated him to be President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in the 2015 presidential election, Punch reports. He said that “somebody somewhere” must nominate one before occupying a position, but refused to disclose the person that nominated him in particular. Controversy broke out recently when the author of Buhari’s biography, “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria”, Prof. John Paden, claimed in the book that the President chose Osinbajo as his running mate despite the alleged opposition of a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu. The author claimed that the names of Tinubu; the then Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola; and Osinbajo were forwarded to Buhari for him to pick a running mate shortly after he emerged the party’s candidate at its convention in Lagos according to News24 . He claimed that Buhari chose Osinbajo above others despite enormous pressure from Tinubu to do otherwise. Tinubu’s loyalists have since faulted the account of the author , saying he (Tinubu) nominated the Vice-President. Speaking at a dinner organised for former Niger Delta agitators at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Osinbajo made a veiled reference to the controversy when he admitted that he was nominated by “somebody somewhere.” |
MTN, CEO,Mr. Ferdinand Moolman South Africa’s MTN has denied it illegally transferred $13.9 billion from Nigeria in the latest scandal to hit the telecom firm in its largest market in the continent. The Johannesburg-based firm is facing a parliamentary probe over accusations it connived with senior Nigerian officials to move the funds out of the country without complying with the law. “We would like to reiterate that at no point did MTN Nigeria (MTNN) illegally repatriate funds out of Nigeria or collaborate with Nigerians to loot the external reserves of the country,” Ferdinand Moolman, the chief executive officer of MTNN told the Senate hearing in Abuja on Thursday. “MTNN is a Nigerian company and is proud to be conducting business in Nigeria. It therefore categorically refutes any accusations of money laundering, economic sabotage or tax evasion levied against it,” he added. Moolman said all monies repatriated by the company were in respect of dividend payments and capital divestment originating from legitimate foreign direct investment. “The dividend payments were made to shareholders who imported foreign capital for investment in MTNN,” he said. Moolman also exonerated Nigeria’s Trade and Investment Minister Okechukwu Elenemah from the alleged capital flight. “We would like to state that Dr Elenemah has never been a director or shareholder of MTNN,” he said, adding that the minister had not connived with the company to move funds out of Nigeria. The parliamentary probe followed a motion last month by Dino Melaye, a senator from central Kogi state which called for MTN to be investigated over the alleged illegal transfers. Four local banks were alleged to have been used to move the funds with the help of the trade minister. The probe is the latest setback to hit MTN in Nigeria. The firm was last year slammed with a $3.9 billion fine for failing to cut off 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards, amid fears that some of the affected lines were being used by Boko Haram insurgents. The conflict sparked by the jihadist group has left at least 20,000 dead and forced more than 2.6 million people from their homes since 2009. In June, MTN announced that following negotiations with the Nigerian authorities, it had agreed to pay $1.7 billion as a final settlement. MTN is the largest mobile phone firm in Nigeria, and the country accounts for a third of the group’s total revenue. MTN threatened to pull out during the SIM card row, before the fine was reduced by nearly 70 percent. Relations between Nigeria and South Africa, the continent’s two economic powerhouses, have been strained over recent years on issues including economic rivalry and political friction. South Africa’s growth has been undermined by the slowdown in China and falling commodity prices, while Nigeria, the continent’s top oil producer, has suffered from low oil prices, leading it into recession.

US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has apologised for calling half of Donald Trump’s supporters “deplorable” people. But the Democrat launched a furious attack on her Republican opponent and promised to keep fighting “bigotry and racist rhetoric”. Trump had responded by saying the comment was “insulting” to “millions of amazing, hard working people”. Opinion polls suggest Trump is gaining on Mrs Clinton. The rivals are neck and neck in the key battleground states of Ohio and Florida. Speaking at a fundraiser in New York, Mrs Clinton said: “To just be grossly generalistic, you can put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the ‘basket of deplorables’. Unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.” They were, she told the LGBT event, “racist, sexist, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it”. The rest of the Republican nominee’s supporters, according to Mrs Clinton, were “just desperate for change”. In his tweeted response, Trump said, “I think it will cost her at the polls!” Trump’s running mate, Mike Pence, said: “They are not a basket of anything. They are Americans & they deserve your respect.” Reince Priebus, head of the Republican National Committee, said Mrs Clinton had shown “her outright contempt for ordinary people”. Millions of Americans, he said, supported the Republican nominee because they were “sick of corrupt career politicians like Hillary Clinton”. Other Republicans mocked Mrs Clinton, sharing photos of the crowd in the Florida venue where Trump spoke on Friday. The hash tag #BasketOfDeplorables has been trending on social media as indignant Republicans attack Mrs Clinton. “A candidate who writes off half the country as a #BasketOfDeplorables should be disqualified”, was one comment on Twitter. Apologising, Mrs Clinton said: “Last night I was ‘grossly generalistic’ and that’s never a good idea. I regret saying ‘half’ – that was wrong.” “As I said,” she added, “many of Trump’s supporters are hard-working Americans who just don’t feel like the economy or our political system are working for them.” But for most of the statement, she attacked her rival, accusing him of building “his campaign largely on prejudice and paranoia” and giving a national platform to “hateful views and voices, including by retweeting fringe bigots with a few dozen followers and spreading their message to 11 million people”. “David Duke and other white supremacists see him as a champion of their values,” she said in the statement. It was, she said, “really deplorable” that her Republican opponent was linked to people from the right-wing “alt-right movement”. Passions are high just over two weeks before the first election debate between Mrs Clinton and Trump on September 26, reports the BBC. After one of the most bitterly fought election campaigns in living memory, Americans go to the polls on November 8 to elect a successor to President Barack Obama. The Democrat is standing down after two terms in office.
