Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has picked out four clubs that he sees as the biggest rivals to Barcelona in the competition this season, with the last-16 ties already under way.

Barcelona were knocked out in the quarterfinals in 2018 by Roma, before being dumped by eventual champions Liverpool in the semifinal of last season’s edition but Messi believes four other sides can win it apart from his club side.

Barcelona will travel next week to face Napoli in the first leg of their last-16 clash in a competition they haven’t won since 2015.

Super Eagles Maintain their position in the latest ratings released by the Federation of International Football Association.

Nigeria remained static at number 31 in the latest Fifa rankings for the month of February released on Thursday.

The African champions were given the same rank in the world according to the ranking released in December 2019.

Penis-biting player banned for five years for biting his opponent.

The incident occurred in France after a post-match brawl broke out between players from SC Treville and AS Soetrich.

An amateur footballer in France has been banned for five years after biting an opponent’s penis following an argument after a game.

The bizarre incident occurred in the town of Treville, which is around 200 miles east of Paris near the border with Luxembourg, following a match between the local side SC Terville and AS Soetrich in November.

A dispute between the opposing sides escalated after full-time, with a violent confrontation breaking out in the dressing rooms and then in the car park.

When one Terville player attempted to separate two players fighting, the Soetrich player responded by biting his penis.

The assault caused him to be rushed to the hospital, where he required 12 stitches and was unable to work for four days.

The Moselle district disciplinary committee has now handed down its punishment, banning the AS Soetrich player for five years and fining the club €200 (£166/$216).

THREAD: Why the 10 is by default better than the 9.

In history we have always valued the 10 over the 9 (except in one footballer’s case) because the 10 doesn’t depend on service in the box to influence a game, they only depend on receiving the ball in half-decent conditions.


Many say “Cristiano did his job vs Ajax, not his fault”. That’s the limits of having your best player being the 9. At Madrid he was the most decisive but he wasn’t always the best. And when Madrid suffered, others (Marcelo, Luka..) took hold of the game.

Vs Ajax Cristiano wasn’t bad. It’s just he got so used to having less responsibility all over the pitch, that he didn’t know how to drop deeper & influence the game in any way other that waiting for service up front. And since Juve don’t have Madrid’s players, they were hopeless

This is why Zizou’s Madrid team was so hard to beat. You had to take care of Cristiano in the box (a monster) but without forgetting the other players. Think about Marcelo’s goal vs Bayern last season. How many left backs in Europe can do that in such a crucial moment?

I personally don’t feel Cristiano could’ve done more vs Ajax. Why? Because he’s a 9. By definition he’s limited to a role that depends so much on teammates showing up. This is why we never called Eto’o, Inzaghi, Drogba, Suarez, Raul, Ruud the best players in the world.

Yaravirus: A new mysterious virus has been found in Brazil as Coronavirus continues to spread around the world

Scientists have discovered a new virus in an artificial lake in Brazil.
This mysterious virus found in amoebae has been named “Yaravirus.”
This latest discovery comes as the coronavirus from China continues to ravage the world.

Unlike the former which started in China, this new one comes from an artificial lake in Brazil.

Independent reports that this virus named “Yaravirus” was found in an amoebae. It was named after “Yara” or “Iara,” which means ‘mother of waters’ – a mythical siren/mermaid figure from Brazilian mythology who would lure sailors underwater.


Scientists are saying that this virus is mysterious because it has genes that no one has seen before.

Reporting the new discovery in bioRxiv, a biological sciences website, the researchers wrote: “We report the discovery of Yaravirus, a new lineage of amoebal virus with a puzzling origin and phylogeny.”
