Politics › Re: Don’t Confront My Administration, Buhari Warns Niger Delta Militants by kay4dem(m): 4:06pm On May 21, 2016 |
mile12crises: President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, urged militants in the Niger Delta to drop their confrontational stance and work with his government to review the Amnesty Programme initiated by the Late ex-President Umaru Yar’Adua Administration.
President Buhari assured oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that the Federal Government is taking all necessary actions to protect strategic assets in the region from vandals and criminals. Speaking at a meeting with the Global Director (Upstream) of the Royal Dutch Shell Group, Andrew Brown, President Buhari said that he had directed the Chief of Naval Staff to reorganise and strengthen the military Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta to deal effectively with the resurgence of militancy and the sabotage of oil installations.
The President told Mr. Brown that the operations of the JTF were also being enhanced with increased support and cooperation from the United States and Europe in the areas of training, intelligence, equipment and logistics. He said: “We have to be very serious with the situation in the Niger Delta because it threatens the national economy. I assure you that everything possible will be done to protect personnel and oil assets in the region.”
The president urged aggrieved persons, militants and communities in the Niger Delta to drop their confrontational stance and work with those who have been charged by the Federal Government to review the Amnesty Programme initiated by the Yar’Adua Administration for the benefit of all parties. President Buhari praised the resilience and staying power of Shell in Nigeria despite the operational challenges of the environment .
He urged the company to do its best to end gas flaring in the Niger Delta quickly and produce more gas for electricity generation to support manufacturing and job creation in the country. Mr. Brown had appealed for an urgent solution to rising crime and militancy in the Niger Delta. The Shell Executive also dispelled speculations that the company was pulling out of Nigeria. He said that contrary to such speculations, Shell was currently in discussions with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on new joint oil and gas projects.

thatNUPEboy: Government Ekpemupolo, militant leader better known as Tompolo, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to relax the pressure on him at the moment, saying he did not support former President Goodlcuk Jonathan in the presidential election because he hated his opponent.
Tompolo, who has been declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said some “anti-Ijaw elements” around the president were misleading him.
Going down memory lane, the former commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), recalled his relationship with the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
“I do not think it was criminal for me to openly support one of my own, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the presidency in 2015,” he wrote in an open letter.
“I did so out of conviction not because I hate you or because you are a northerner. After all, most of my personal friends and acquaintances are from the north.
“To cap it all, the memories of my robust relationship with your Katsina brother, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua are still painfully fresh and reminiscent of brotherliness.”
He advised the president to avoid treading a “dangerous dimension” by seeing Ijaw people as enemies.
Below is the letter:
His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Dear Mr President,
I once again, deem it pertinent to write Your Excellency since your assumption of office in May 2015. Mr President will recall that at my meeting with you sometimes last year, I gave my commitment and pledge to ensure sustainable peace and development in the oil rich Niger Delta region and Nigeria in general.
At the meeting which I interpreted to be an ample opportunity and a template for peaceful co existence in the country, I made it known to Your Excellency that my support for your government as well as my commitment to a peaceful and secure Niger Delta region is paramount. But I remember also that I gave a humble advice on the need for Mr President to be weary of political cum crisis merchants, particularly those who are members of your own party, the APC. That advice arose out of the fear that most people who are members of your party, especially from the Niger Delta region, who are very known to me, take solace in evolving and concocting crisis to leverage upon.
I left the meeting fulfilled for three reasons. It was not because I had met with a new man in charge but because I had an opportunity to air my views on the way forward. I had also successfully dispelled an unfounded perception that I do not want to see President you succeed having defeated my fellow Ijaw kinsman and close confidant. Thirdly, I did not use the opportunity of that auspicious meeting to arrogate to myself, as having the solutions to all the challenges facing the Niger Delta region.
This is worth emphasizing in the sense that aside me , there are several other dissatisfied, disenchanted, oppressed and agitated younger elements who still habour misdirected sentiments that I led a handful of ex agitators to surrender arms and embrace the Presidential Amnesty Programme in 2009, under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, without immediately solving the myriad of problems facing our people. Little did such younger elements appreciate the fact that there can only be a process leading to the eventual succor for our people.
Nonetheless, I displayed an uncommon courage to ensure the sustenance of peace and relative security within the limits of my capacity and ability. Most Nigerians, if not all, are aware of the role I played in safeguarding and protecting crude oil and gas facilities during the last administration. I am sure even Mr President is aware of this development. As a patriotic Nigerian, I have never hidden my desire to do what is just in this regard even to the extent, that I have incurred the wrath of illegal bunkers and vandals.
Attempts To Demonize Me And Ethnicise Niger Delta Issues
Mr President Sir, even at the risk of being repetitive, kindly permit me to recall the various efforts I have made to exonerate myself from the perfidious moves by some elements within and outside the Niger Delta region to always implicate me on any flimsy opportunity.
To such persons, calling me, the man behind every bad thing has remained the only avenue and pedestal to get political patronages. Although so many instances abound, the recent spirited move to link me with the nascent Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a group that has claimed responsibility for the various breaches on oil pipeline installations in the Niger Delta region.
To some around you, the only means of getting Your Excellency’s attention is to wickedly attribute the activities of the said group to me simply because I have a running battle with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC). This is the height of desperation and hypocrisy on the part of such people.
For one, I have chosen to pursue my case with the EFCC to a logical conclusion because I am yet to be convinced that the purported case instituted against me does not have ethnic colouration masterminded by my traducers. Since the case is before a competent court of jurisdiction, I will refrain from making further comments on this.
However, it will be in the interest of this great nation if Mr President takes a painstaking study of certain political actors around him, most especially those from the Niger Delta region. I bear no grudge against any of such, but I am convinced beyond any doubt that they have taken solace in perpetual misdirection and mischief as far as my person is concerned.
I make bold to say that there are several APC elements within and around your government who see anything Ijaw as criminal and anti-Buhari. Unpretentiously too, certain non-Ijaw ethnic merchants cum bigots have expressedly displayed open hatred for Ijaws in the Niger Delta region. Such persons have almost succeeded in warping a governmental mindset against Ijaws, whether in or outside your government. Please Mr President, this is a very dangerous dimension that is avoidable by your government.
Just as your people supported you as of right, throughout the presidential campaigns, I do not think it was criminal for me to openly support one of my own, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the presidency in 2015. I did so out of conviction not because I hate you or because you are a northerner. Afterall, most of my personal friends and aquaintances are from the north. To cap it all, the memories of my robust relationship with your Katsina brother, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua are still painfully fresh and reminiscent of brotherliness.
In this regard, it is only appropriate to judge people not by what is reeled out to the corridor of powers by their traducers but by their deeds and activities. I do not think I have done anything to warrant this needless mental onslaught that has been visited on me since Your Excellency’s assumption of power.
Finally, I am compelled to say that these ethno-political merchants are merely laying the foundation for an unavoidable crisis. They will be happy to see a ravaged Gbaramatu Kingdom and by extension, Ijawland under the pretext of looking for me. This is a very dangerous template such persons are laying and it is only good for Mr President to deploy the inner mind to stratify this unwholesome gimmick.
Once again, I thank Mr President for having the time to peruse this letter.
Thanks and as usual, accept the assurances of my highest compliments.

rapistbuhari: The Odua Defenders Union, ODU, has described the threat by a new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, to attack Lagos within a matter of days as an insult on the Yoruba race.
In a statement signed by its President-General, Rabak Anthony, ODU warned against the dangers ahead if Ijaw militants decided to carry out their threat to attack Lagos or any part of Yorubaland. “This threat that was published in all the media, both electronic and print, cannot be taken for granted. Therefore, the Yoruba are ready to make the first move against the Ijaws in Lagos before their ‘brothers’ will storm Lagos.
“We fought the Ijaws here in Lagos before because of this their arrogance and they know we are ready for them. They came here about five years ago also to attack the Atlas Cove where Naval officers guarding tank farms were killed.
“So, we are not taking this threat without preparation. We are ready, let them make the move.” The Odua Defenders Union leader said, its members spread across the whole South-West and can deal with the militants threat. The group asked the security agents to go after the Niger Delta Avengers because the Yoruba youths are prepared to face them and other Ijaws militants in Lagos.

Politics › Re: You Have Failed Nigerians - ASUU To Buhari by kay4dem(m): 9:23am On May 07, 2016 |
UmuEri: by Cletus Ukpong
President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Friday, received a damning verdict from the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
ASUU, at its 19th National Delegates Conference held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, said Nigerians were yet to experience the much talked-about change Mr. Buhari promised the nation.
The administration has failed the people, ASUU said.
The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, was represented at the event by his Special Adviser, A.B. Baffa.
The president of ASUU, Nasir Isa, while addressing the conference, said, Mr. Buhari was waging a “half-hearted” fight against corruption, and that the poor was getting poorer, while “a tiny club of nouvea riche, treasury looters, phantom contractors, subsidy scammers and rent collectors are flowing in scandalous opulence and manipulating the legal structures of the state to escape.
“One year after, there has been no positive change in the major indices of growth and development, be it poverty reduction, safety and security, disease control or access to basic amenities and public good,” he said.
Mr. Isa said the government appeared to have no direction in its policies, thereby causing Nigerians to be disillusioned with it.
“The disappointment of Nigerians stems from the fact that we have a government whose leadership promised change but which is not practising transformation (deep, fundamental change).
“Democracy in Nigeria is still seen superficially as what leaders do for the people rather than government by the people,” ASUU said.
Mr. Isa, whose tenure as ASUU president comes to an end at the two-day conference, said the Nigerian government has abandoned a socialist welfare state prescribed by the provisions of Chapter Two of the 1999 Constitution, and embraced unfavourable policies handed down by IMF and World Bank.
“As intellectuals, we know the Nigerian condition is a reflection of the conspiracy between African rulers and agents of Bretton Wood Institutions particularly the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB),” Mr. Isa said.
“The conspiracy was consummated in the 1980s when these institutions for the protection and advancement of capitalism, came up with their ‘standard reform package’ now known as the ‘Washington consensus.’
“This package was designed for the African and other underdeveloped economies in order to perpetuate their enslavement to the capitalist world. Many of us would recall General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida’s debate on this ‘consensus’ in 1985/86.
“Even though the Nigerian people overwhelmingly rejected the IMF/WB loan, the Babangida Government still went ahead to implement the key neoliberal prescriptions of devaluation of the Naira and trade liberalisation.
“President Olusegun Obasanjo and his successors from 1999 have unabashedly intensified the implementation of this package through criminal privatisation and commercialisation of public assets, in faithful surrender to the Washington ‘consensus.’
“In all of these, the Nigerian ruling class is unmindful of stiff resistance by the labour movement, civil society groups, the media and other progressive forces in the country. This is much unlike what obtains in other climes such as the Asian Tigers (Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea) who got industrialised without surrendering their economies to the prowling reach of local and foreign marketers of the ‘Washington consensus’,” the union said.
Mr. Isa said ASUU must not relent in working with other progressives to fight for the common good of Nigerians.
He announced that ASUU has donated an initial sum of N20 million to help ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians displaced from their homes and communities in the North East, due to the insurgency in the region.
He said the amount was in addition to the N5million earlier donated by the union to the National Hospital, Abuja, for medical assistance to the victims of the Nyanya Motor Park bomb blast.
The ASUU president paid glowing tributes to late Eskor Toyo, a revered professor of economics, whom he said was “a great institution on his own right”.
Mr. Isa said of late Toyo: “He was a grand meteor, an economist who attained an unparalleled height in the discipline, a historian’s historian, an unusually endowed political iconoclast who offered himself to the vagaries of life and yet remained a credible spokesperson for the voiceless members of our world, an Africanist, a rare intellectual warrior, a writer who wrote to right the wrongs of his time, an educator who spoke to conscience.”
The Minister of Education, Mr. Adamu, in his goodwill message to the conference, said the Buhari administration was “peerlessly committed to the resuscitation or restoration of the Nigerian Project by confronting the evils of corruption, unemployment, insecurity and indiscipline”.
Mr. Adamu called on ASUU to support his Ministerial Action Plan, which he said was designed to reposition Nigeria’s ailing education sector.

1. HARDWORK AND DETERMINATION PAYS: Leicester City achieved this remarkable feat not by jugging around the pitch. Over the course of the campaign, players and the coaching staff put in a remarkable amount of hardwork and determination. Their never-say-die attitude is epitomized by Jamie Vardy, Ngolo Kante, Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan, to call but a few. Even in the face of popular pessimism about their ability to win BPL, the players remained undeterred, determined and positive, marrying hardwork with belief. That has paid off.
2. BE ORIGINAL AND CREATIVE: Following Barcelona and Spain's successes in football, gained through paying huge attention to possession-based football, the footballing world set about copying the Barcelona model. Not Leicester! Instead, Ranieri developed his own model of ceding possession to the opponent while exploiting the opponent's flaws through a quick counter attacking play. It worked like magic and today, Leicester is on everyone's lips. Be original! Be creative! You must not go with the crowd to make it.
3. WORK UNDER THE RADAR, LET YOUR SUCCESSES DO THE TALKING: While Arsene Wenger talked about Arsenal mental strength, Mourinho having a subtle fight with his players, Man.City flirting with the issue of having Pep Guardiola as coach, Leicester were quietly doing the job required of champions. Succinctly put, Leicester did their talking where it mattered - on the pitch and they now have their trophy taking for them. Work hard silently, let your successes talk for you.
4. BELIEVE YOU CAN MAKE IT EVEN WHEN OTHERS DOUBT YOU: Leicester may have targeted survival over the BPL title at the beginning of the season but immediately they saw that they can win the title, they never stopped believing! The consensus among the footballing world, even as at February 2016, was that Leicester will falter along the way. Instead of allowing that popular doubt to derail their ambition, it spurred them on. When others doubt your ability to make it, believe in yourself and work towards proving your doubters wrong. He that believes, receives!
5. GOD-FACTOR (LUCK) IS EVERYTHING: While Leicester worked hard, they were also lucky with injuries. While Man.City, Man. United, Arsenal, Liverpool and even Chelsea had key men injured over the course of the campaign, Leicester were extraordinarily lucky with injuries. Would Leicester have won the BPL without having the luxury of selecting Jamie Vardy, Ngolo Kante, Wes Morgan and Riyad Mahrez week-in week-out? The obvious answer is No! Definitely, Leicester players were not the only players in BPL working hard, but they were the ones whose calls were divinely answered. Work hard but remember that the battle is not of the swift and the strong. It's not of he that willeth or of he that runneth but of God that showeth mercy. Put God first!

Nigeria’s bid to appoint a former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp as Eagles foreign technical adviser seems to have suffered a setback as the former Portsmouth coach has concluded plans to join Australian club Central Coast Mariners as a consultant.
Redknapp recently had a two-game spell in charge of Jordan, overseeing an 8-0 win over Bangladesh and a 5-1 loss to Australia in Sydney. Harry Redknapp The 69-year-old is also acting as an advisor to Derby County, currently fifth in the Championship. Based in New South Wales, Mariners were A-League winners in 2008 and 2012. Redknapp’s decision to opt for the Australian job comes after it emerged late Thursday night that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was set to name him the long-term Eagles manager. A London tabloid, Daily Star, had reported that Redknapp was in line to grab the Eagles job, overseeing the country’s Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign, after the team failed to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Coach Salisu Yusuf presently acts as interim coach, with the mandate to take charge of two upcoming friendlies against Mali in Paris on May 27 and Luxembourg on June 1. But Daily Stars said Redknapp was approached to take over reins of power, with a source close to the team revealing he could be named as the next permanent manager within a few days. Redknapp is largely untested at international level after narrowly missing out on the England job to Roy Hodgson.
But with the latest twist that he has opted to join Central Coast Mariners, it seems Redknapp has put paid to NFF’s bid to hire him for a role widely regarded as the biggest job in African football.

cnwokike: The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has launched a helicopter for aerial surveillance of the activities of herdsmen in the state.
The governor, who stated this during the Workers’ Day celebration in Awka, the state capital, assured the people of the state that his administration had all it would take to prevent any attack by the herders.
Obiano said that before the growing menace of the Fulani herdsmen in the country, he had set up a special committee to foster peace between farmers and the cattle grazers in the state.
The committee, the governor noted, was made up of the leaders of the Hausa-Fulani community in the state, government officials, security agents and some representatives of agrarian communities across the state.
Obiano said, “This committee has made the herdsmen to pay compensation to communities whose crops were destroyed by their cattle seven times in the past. And we have also paid compensation to the herdsmen when one community breached the peace against them. That is the nature of our engagement with them in Anambra State.”
He warned that his administration would deal ruthlessly with the herdsmen should they become “needlessly hostile against their host communities.”
Obiano added, “There is routine helicopter surveillance across the borders of the state to ensure that any suspicious gathering of people(herdsmen) or curious movements across the borders are quickly picked up and analysed by security experts.”
The governor commended Anambra workers for their support to his administration, saying “if Willie is working, then the workers are also working.”
He restated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
Obiano added that the state government would consider a salary increase for workers once there was an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra State chapter, Jerry Nnubia, had commended Obiano for putting up an excellent performance since he took over two years ago.
Meanwhile, as the various pressure groups in the southern part of the country threaten to move Fulani herdsmen from their communities because of recent killings in Enugu and other southern states, the National Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Mr. Garus Gololo, has said such an action may ignite national crisis.
Gololo told one of our correspondents, “It is only in Oyo that there are up to 2,000 herdsmen; in other parts of the South-West, they are not more than between 200 and 800 while in the North, there are over 30 million southerners.”
According to him, many of the southerners have big houses in their original homes especially in Igbo land but such houses are empty because a lot of them are staying in the North.
He said the National Assembly had intervened in the crisis between farmers and herdsmen, insisting that “if the herdsmen have not committed offences that warrant their being forced out of the South, they should not be forced out.”
