Not to sound discouraging but you do know that engaging in hairdressing or rendering services in return for money is considered business here in the US? Your suggestion is doable but those that do so try to do cash-only form of payment.

As for engaging in studies, F2 spouse dependents are not allowed to engage in full-time study here in the US, which includes going to nursing school full time or part time. She needs to enter with F1 or apply to change from F2 to F1 if she intends to do so. They may engage part time in avocational things like hobbies or language training however.

https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/2015/06/dependents-offered-part-time-study-opportunities

https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-start-business-in-USA-with-a-F2-visa-status
F2 students can become f1 students quickly , the business is the best , no one needs a license to plate box braids, sharp girls we I know dey make money pass me right now , upon sey na 2 jobs I dey work. It's a home service business.an f1 student can works 19 hours a week and makes 190 a week. An hairdresser makes this in a days work , and she gets at least 10 jobs a month , way more if she's in a black community.

Hello House and experience people like @Lagosismyhome, and @bigfrancis21,

Please, as a Graduate student on F1 Visa, what type of business petty things can your wife do in the US legally to keep busy as well as support financially while with you in US on F2 dependent Visa?

Is there any hand work/skills she can learn in Nigeria before coming that she can use legally? Am aware dependent are not allowed to take up employment while on F2 Visa.

Thanks in anticipation.
bigfrancis21:

Legally, your spouse would not be allowed to do anything, be it to work or do business. She needs legal residence to do any of those two and also a business license to operate a business. Everything here is controlled and when it comes to business you nearly always need a permit or license to do most things. Her best bet would have been her to enter on F1 visa also like you, instead of as a dependent, so she can go to school here at the same time (a US degree is very necessary here) you are going to school and also be able to work on campus, thus killing two birds with one stone. Your kids can then be dependents on you two, which makes the burden much less strenuous for you. My 2 cents.
I've spent a year in the US so far , your wife should learn hairdressing and stuffs beauticians do, from hair dressing alone she makes more than 200 bucks per service. If I was girl that's what I'll do.and there's always a very large African and African American community in most states especially hear in Houston Texas , she's gonna make alot of money shuttling BTW Texas dallas and Austin. Then you can also put her in nursing school part time.while she works as a cna part time , there's a lot she can do.

Goodday guys , abeg those people doing phd , how many years visa do they give you guys, my guy collect 10 years so I want to know why cause i was expecting 3 or 4 years student visa, like the way masters student receive 2 years , I was expecting phd to be 3 or 4 years.
This is a simple question na , all I just want is for a phd student to tell me the number of years he was given ,and if it's possible for one to collect 10 years because me myself I'm also doubting this guy , that's why I'm asking the question.

America only gives Nigerians a 2 year visa, Ghanaians get a 5 year visa.
All these things are foreign policies. Nigeria gives Americans a year visa that's why they pay us back.
I'm curious which country gave your guy 10 years visa
Baba no follow me argue USA gave him ,he finished his masters here in us, applied for phd and got full scholarship plus stipend went back to nigeria to apply for visa again when his 2 years was about to expire, no follow me argue I just want to know if it's normal.

Nigerian prisons are 600% better than American prisons

Have you been to Rikers island prison in New York ?? You would choose to get eaten alive by a lion the to go to Rikers

Have you heard about Louisiana state prison ?? A.k.a Alcatraz ?? Trust me, that's the last place you wanna go

What about San Quinton ??

Just watch Locked up raw and you will repent immediately
sorry sir , but are u joking or serious

Travel / Re: Masters Degree In Canada Or NYSC Program? by KELVIN086: 7:47pm On Jun 15, 2017
segtak25:
Good Afternoon ,

I need your Career advice on something have been thinking and researching on for some weeks now.
i graduated from the University of Nigeria , Nsukka april this year.
When I told my uncle Who had promised to sponsor me abroad for my Master degree earlier this year.
He was very happy and said i should start the process for the admission in canada so that i can resume with them September 2018.
According to him he said i should process the admission and Visa apllication when partaking in the compulsory Nysc.

The main Issue bothering me now is , I will be Mobilised for Nysc Program by november this year which will be completed October Nextyear(2018)
Msc program in any institution in Canada starts September, that is a month before the completion of NYSC.
Meanwhile, Institutions in canada commence course and other registartion for masters degree in August (2018).

There are two option i'm thinking of:

1.I am thinking of Skiping NYsC but afraid i might need it in future.

2.If i decide to put in for Nysc , There is a popular saying that "Opportunity knocks but once"..

We all know Nysc is getting smart everyday

Pls my fellow Nairalander , i need your advice on these ..

Good day sir, i think this question was reserved for me , since i've just passsed through this predicament like a year before, guy i'm in the usa doing my masters and i wish i did not waste 1 year of my life doing nysc, the moment you come to the western world your orientation changes , you start thinking of had it been you knew you could have come here earlier. The earlier you come the better for you, there's alot to learn and alot to do to guarantee you success here. I'm in the us , but now i wished i was in canada self, the green card hustle is easier in canada. The earlier you start the hustle the better.
The only thing that would make me advice you to do your nysc, is if you intend to use that 1 year to develop your self , i mean like learn new technologies, like if ur in computer science that 1 year can be spent learning and mastering a new programming language, or if ur in engineering learn how to use some softwares and tools in your field professionally or gain 1 year of professional experience in your field. Those things will help you when you come over here. But if thats not the case baba forget it, if you want to do politics in the future and need a nysc certificate you can also ghost the nysc when you have made your money. But the truth is you will never come back to naija when you come here, the only time you'll go back to naija is when you want to build houses as investments cool

I don't understand 7.5 million to clear 2017 Camry , is the government trying to discourage people from driving fine cars.

Kelvin, do you think US Government is dumb. Paying you huge amount for doing nothing. Just drilling for one weekend a month. To earn $800/month as a reservist, you must have reached a high rank as officer or enlisted. Their pay chart is online.

Oga I don talk sorry already , I have confirmed it's within the range of 300 to 800.

At least you did not throw insult at me like an average Nigerian would have done. I appreciate that. Well look at this link and see that I was correct http://www.militaryrates.com/military-pay-drillpay-e1_e5_2017. Like I said, what is your friends rank and number of years in reserve?
Your links not going through , but I just asked another guy now , and he says it's 600 but after tax and other stuffs, it remains like 300 or 400.
I'm not sure those guys at reserve have any rank.
