Romance / Reasons You Should Value Happiness Over Longevity In Relationships by kelvinjeremiah(m): 10:01pm On Feb 07, 2019
If one of relationship happiness or longevity has to be forfeited, this is what you should always let go of...

The quality of a relationship is in its happiness value, rather than in its longevity. If only this could be said enough times, and if only people would realise and grasp this truth wholly, there will be more happy endings and less troubled marriages.

This is one very big problem affecting many persons today, especially women. As much as it is painful to say, there could've been lesser marital woes than there is today.

At some point for many women, sadly, relationship decisions become tainted by the duration of the relationship, as opposed to the happiness contained in it.

This often happens in relationships that have been on for quite a long time. It also affects women who perceive themselves as 'ripe for marriage' and 'too old to begin again’.

How Women Think In Terms Of Time

It's been six years with him and aside from the fact that you're 27 and now too old to begin from the scratch again, he's the only love of your life... the only true love you've ever known.

How could you leave him when he deflowered you and made you do away with two foetuses? How could you, when he already introduced you to all his family members and put a ring on it?

It's definitely heartbreaking after such sacrifices and time spent on the relationship, but still, isn't it better to leave than spend a lifetime of regrets and unhappiness?

“It doesn't make sense to leave this place,” you say to yourself as you look forward to a wedding that you know will begin a marriage that'd be lucky to stand for six months.

Everyone congratulates you but each smile you flash in appreciation frays your nerves further, worsens the knot in your stomach.

He sleeps with other girls and says he'll stop when you're finally married. He reeks of alcohol and embarrassment when he returns from going out without you and even on days when you go together, he doesn't give a damn that you're there.

He carries on with his wanton flirtations and excesses as he would if you'd stayed at home, cradling your phone, waiting for him to call you, or at least pick one of your several calls.

Maybe reply your frantic messages instead of leaving them on blue ticks; leaving you on read - unworthy, undeserving of a response.

His ex still owns him and he's not trying to make her know there's someone else. You were once sane but now even you doubt your mental wellness.

He brings out the worst in you, and leaves you a mess.

Of course he apologizes every time he f**ks up. He brings gifts and sends you money - money with a source you may/may not be able to trace.

But it's all good, right? How could you ever leave him? How could you leave this great guy (in a sarcastic way though, or maybe actually an irony), these six years of magic and the marital bliss you're about to get into?

It doesn't make sense to leave and start again, does it?

An Alternate, Better Reality

Think of relationships in terms of happiness and satisfaction and the peace of mind they bring. If there are other things that mean a lot to you, think of your relationship from those perspectives, as opposed to viewing it through the prism of time.

The idea that there is a certain age to be engaged or married is rubbish and time and several experiences have proven that repeatedly.

When it comes to marriage, sincerely, there's no need to rush. Just take one step at a time and stop hearing inexistent biological bells tolling. That's just Nigerian parents messing with you and blaming it on biology.

Don't be scared to leave old relationships that are no longer good for you. It does not matter how long you've known him, or how old you are now. Perfection is not always built with time.

People change and the man you know now is the real man, stop deceiving yourself with memories of the past. If he was good only in the past and has gone to shit now, ditch him.

The real measure of a relationship is not, and should never be based on the time it’s been on for, but the happiness of the people in it.

How To Protect Online Privacy On Social Media Platforms

You might want to consider hiding some of your info on social media… it’s worthwhile.

Recent research conducted by Javelin Strategy & Research suggests that social media users (especially Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat), face a 46% higher risk of account takeover and fraud than those not active on social networks.

So how then do we protect ourselves?

Facebook

Limit Access To Future Posts

You can limit access to your future posts to ensure that they are only visible to friends. This should reduce the amount of data being collected by facebook.

Followers can see your posts on facebook, even if you don’t wish to befriend them. To prevent this, go to Public Posts > Who can follow me and change from Public to Friends.

Stop People Using Your Personal Info For Finding You

To prevent people from using you personal info for finding you, alter your settings in the Privacy > How people find and connect you.

Prevent Your Name Being Linked With Ads

Go to Ads section
Under Ads settings, update your settings
Select “No one” for ads that include your social actions
Save changes

Block Facebook Apps From Accessing Your Data

It's possible to limit and reduce the info that Facebook apps can access. To block such apps:

Go to Preferences > Apps, websites and games menu
Switch from Turned on to turned off

Twitter

Prevent Twitter From Tracking You

Control how twitter collects and share your data

In your Account page, click on Privacy and Security
Go to Personalization and data
Click an disable all
Click on save changes

Stop Including Location Data In Tweets

Navigate to Settings and Privacy
Under the Tweet location section, uncheck the box of “Tweet with a location”

Stop Twitter From Accessing Your Contacts

In the Privacy and Safety menu, scroll down to “discoverability”
Uncheck the boxes to stop others from finding you by email address or phone number

Instagram

Make Your Posts Private

One of the most essential steps to take in protecting info on Instagram is to make your posts private.

From inside the app, click the Settings button and thus toggle “Private account” on.

Prevent Instagram From Sharing Info With Other Social Networking Sites

Access the Settings menu, and then select “Linked accounts”
Unclick all of the accounts you wish to remove

Reduce Profile Info

Instagram only requires you to put a username on your profile. So make your username anonymous, and do not include any other information.

Snapchat

Make Sure Only Your Friends Can Contact You

Snapchat makes it possible for anyone to contact you, but it's probably best to limit this to your friends.

In Order to achieve this, first access your profile tab via the “gear icon”.

Find the Contact me option under the ‘who can’ heading in your settings, and select ‘My friends’.

Select Who You Want To See Your Stories

Click the gear icon, then scroll down to the ‘who can’ section and tap ‘view my story’. You'll then have the option of customizing who sees your stories.

Remove Yourself From The ‘Quick Add’ Section

‘Quick Add’ enables you to be added to the friends list of mutual friends.

To disable this setting, locate the ‘gear icon’ > ‘Show me’ in ‘Quick add’ and then turn it off.

falz-moral-instruction

Falz goes political on Moral Instruction, his fourth album.

Wizkid, Tekno, Seyi Shay and Burna Boy have all taken the route. But these are not artists with any real political concerns. Wizkid and Tekno want girls; Seyi Shay wants sex; Burna Boy wants weed.

Nothing wrong with these—Fela wanted all of those things too—but he had a political and artistic seriousness that none of his compatriots have managed to generate.

Nigerians might as well forget about anyone ever coming close to Fela’s artistry—only a few people care about playing instruments—but the country has been on the lookout for someone, anyone, to marry politics to music.

It is why when Falz, keenly aware of the vacancy, struck the Black Power salute in his video for ‘This is Nigeria’ last year, everyone and their grandmother took to social media to say, albeit with some hesitation, that we have found the new Fela.

Upon the release of 'Talk', the first single from his new album Moral Instruction, the hesitation seems to have disappeared. Over on Twitter, Falz and Fela were both trending for several hours.

Their positions kept changing and if it seemed like a relay race, it was hard to tell just who had the baton and who was set to receive it. But of course one of the runners has been dead for more than 20 years. It is not sure if the other runner would last that long.

But Moral Instruction might be his best chance to outlive his corporeal self—at least for those who believe political songs last longer than the average pop song. (They are wrong but it’s a useful delusion.)

The nine-track album has Falz as preacher, teacher and Fela sampler.

On the first song ‘Johnny’, he is a storyteller. The titular character has his dreams and life cut short by the Nigerian police. As far as a musical entrée to a political album goes it is quite a direct song.

Yet it is the next song, ‘Follow Follow’, that seems to bring the musical ideas on parade together. The song’s producer artfully blends Afrobeat and hip hop with extreme force.

Fela’s martial commands from ‘Zombie’ are interspersed with a staccato delivery from Falz. It is a very smart production. Lyrically, the song tackles the celebrity craze, especially as it manifests online. “Gimme likes, drop comments,” he raps.

Other topics addressed include the avarice of pastors and regular people, the selfishness of politicians, the immorality of prostitution and the hypocrisy of the citizenry.

Naturally, it is his lyrics about prostitution that has attracted the most attention online. "Why isn’t he talking about the men who patronise these prostitutes?" is the most common question.

The most common answer is that Falz is misogynist—an answer which, if they are right, means Falz has adopted both Fela’s samples and his major flaw. There is a strange symmetry to this.

To my mind, the real trouble here is not quite the misogyny as much as it is the inconsistency.

Back in 2013, on a song titled ‘High Class’, Falz seemed to be celebrating the idea of cash in exchange for sexual favours. Perhaps he has changed his mind.

Even if that is the case, there is a missed opportunity here that could have taken Falz from hectoring saint to flawed person who has realised a better way to live.

The opportunity comes and is lost on ‘Hypocrite’. You might expect a song with the line, “Everybody is a motherfucking hypocrite” as part of the chorus to be introspective somewhere but it never happens.

All of his fingers are pointed at pastors, politicians, prostitutes—everybody but himself.

This is part of the problem with Falz’s political commentary: he seems unaware of all the ways he is not the average Nigerian. Obviously, Fela was also from a prominent family but by creating Kalakuta, a community that welcomed average citizens, he had a perspective that Falz doesn’t.

This lack of introspection suggests a simple message: if we are all like Falz—with his material privilege, famous father, talent and sinlessness—Nigeria would be a great country. But by exempting himself from the litany of sins and misdemeanours of Nigerians on Moral Instruction, Falz can hardly defend himself against charges of punching down.

Someone might say Fela never did any self-reflection either. That might be so, but he didn’t need to. The media was replete with reports of his bad behaviour. Falz, on the other hand, is spotless in the press.

And where Falz still practises hashtag-activism with melody, Fela sang like a witness. Falz says “still no regard for the life of a citizen”; Fela memorably sang about Nigerians in a bus: “Forty-nine sitting, ninety-nine standing.”

One sounds like something you read in an op-ed; the other sounds like he was either sitting in the bus or saw the packed bus.

Perhaps smarting from the criticism he received for ‘This Is Nigeria’, Falz takes an opportunity to say something about those who are sceptical about his politics. “Person when I fight for go turn around to fight me,” he raps.

“You tell your doctor you enjoy the headache. Kill the message; throway the message.” You want to tell him to not take himself so seriously.

To be fair to the man, Moral Instruction does a much better job of political commentary than ‘This Is Nigeria’. The anger in his voice on a song like ‘E No Finish’ suggests that he endorses the anger of his countrymen.

He is no longer just name-dropping Nigeria’s issues. Even better, he remembers that he is human and says “I do not have the right to direct the finger of guilt or the look of contempt at my guy for even I can barely see through the speck in my eye.”

That is a fair sentiment. I just wish he had the self-awareness to say it earlier.

“Shabalistica”

Anytime I hear that signature intro, I'm eager to listen. You know what's popping when you hear that sound.

Killertunes has indeed been killing tunes. One of the most exciting and inventive young producers working today, the gifted Killertunes has carved a niche for himself, and maybe setting industry standards.

He has literally been involved in most of 2018’s defining hits, from Duncan Mighty and Wizkid's Fake Love; Olamide's Motigbana and Logba Logba; DJ Spinall and Kizz Daniel's Baba; the hot and now trending Tiwa Savage's One; to even more recently, Mayorkun's Mofo featuring Patoranking.

Speaking of hits; Killertunes was also responsible for chart topping singles of 2017, which includes: Wizkid's Manya; Kiss Daniel's Yeba and Sofa; amongst others.

He has done everything absolutely right. Whatever he touches is a definite hit. He is a unique and dynamic producer currently signed to DJ Spinall's ‘The Cap Music’ label.

One thing Killertunes has really been good at, has been to create original and unique ideas, concepts, sounds for other producers to look up to. He has produced instrumentals that majority of Nigerian producers wouldn't have seen fit for the contemporary and popular music in Nigeria. It has worked wonders for him.

There is a new word for a hit, it just might just be - Shabalistica.

Needless I say, Killertunes deserves ‘Producer Of The Year’ award.

Let's delve into some of the outstanding songs of 2018 produced by the talented producer …

Duncan Mighty X Wizkid - Fake Love

One of the best songs of 2018. Killertunes did absolute justice to this record

DJ Spinall Ft. Kizz Daniel - Baba

Mayorkun Ft. Davido - Bobo

Olamide - Motigbana

Olamide - Logba Logba

Demmie Vee Ft. Kizz Daniel - You Go Wait?

DJ Spinall Ft. Wizkid - Nowo

T-Classic Ft. Mayorkun - Fall In Love

Tiwa Savage - One

Mayorkun Ft. Patoranking - Mofo

Omawunmi Ft. DJ Spinall and Slimcase - Malowa

It's now up to you guys. What do you think? With the number of hits he has produced in 2018, is there any producer better than him right now?

I was overly anxious for the final update... I even had to check frequently during crossover service and early hours of this morning.

TBH, it was worthwhile n wasn't disappointing at all. Thumbs up man. You did really well on the FINALE.

I haven't commented once on this story, that was because I started a week ago.

I was skeptical at first while reading the first few updates, but as it went further, it was exhilarating. You did really well man. Countless is among my very best of stories... DEVIL WEARS OKRIKA, THE DEVIL WHO LOVED ME, YOUNGZUBI'S SPANA, UNFULFILLED PROMISES, OGECHI & I, MAN WEY DEY REASON, my very sweet BUKKY ALAKARA, BABA RISI, ANIKE, ALLEN AVENUE & 225 KATAKATA STREET and others which I've read but can't recall.

My story days are over after reading this classic. I ended it on a high note, but m not leaving 225 KATAKATA STREET sha. How I wished majority of stories could be as interesting as this.

Sorry for all the gibberish I've spewed... all I'm trying to say is...

DAROUS EMMANUEL, YOU ROCK AND THE LORD WILL TAKE YOU TO GREATER HEIGHTS. CONTINUE IN SAME VAIN AND FIND MORE WAYS TO BETTER YOURSELF... THE SKY IS ONLY THE STEPPING STONE.

AH!

COUNTLESS WAS AN AWESOME RIDE! THANKS MAN!
