My problem is that you make it sound like Wike started it. It all started towards the end of Amaechi's tenure, Wike had to continue it due to the fact that the state can no longer sustain such policy.
but from the fillers am getn it obvious he mesd up the system

It was free because not all the PHCs stopped the free medical same time, but immediately after the strike in 2014 free medicals began to fade away and finally died completely towards the end of 2014.
Moreover some MDs/Medsup were being selective in who they charge, not forgetting medical officers and matrons who will always find a way to help their relatives.
Your sister was lucky so go thank God.
I'm in the system and will educate you on Rivers State health system.
though am currently not in ph, but i asked my sis she said because of wike revenue drive all the free institutions in rivers like school and health center started collecting money to manage itself. the most worisome is the bad state of those institutions

For those of you who ain't in the medical field and will believe this less informed info.
Free medicals in Rivers State stopped since 2014 during Amaechi's tenure due to dwindling state fund.
Before 2014 free medicals was fully active but from mid 2014 only Amaechi coartem was free for children which later got finished.
The free medical was free for both indigenes and non indigenes. Though it was more patronised by non indigenes, mostly from the SE and Akwa Ibom ie my statistics from my time in BMSH as a house officer.

As for the deterioration in facility, well what can I say?
It's the normal Nigerian factor 《Poor management of facilities》

please stop misinforming people. around November 2014 was when my elder sis gave birth to her first child and it was in the health center at emenike mile 1. it was absolutely free with free medicines and other freebies. the worst part of it all is that the place is currently looking derelict

Most of you guys surprise me a lot. Even in advanced countries, health care is not free. I wonder why nigerians want everything for free......deal with it !

Dude my emphasis is more on standard than the free ish. the contrast of what I witnessed during my initial visit and now is unimaginable. quit disappointing.
even if you want to make it paid at least sustain the standard

Jesus! It used to be free for indigenes as far back as 2016. What really changed?

my brother the worst of it all as I said before is the falling standard of the health centers. it is a shadow of itself just imagine in most instance there is not even a doctor in the health.
my sis just told me now that since the state government ask those health centers to start generating and managing their revenue that is when the standard started falling. she also told me that same thing applies to the public schools which were once free. she said the schools now are currently in ruin angry

I love the serenity and the pattern of Roads in Owerri_dual carriage roads with well mawed greenery midians dotted with trees and flowers. I don't think any city in Niaja can compete with them in that regards

The Health Centers are still free for indigenes...

But I think its best to reverse to the era of free for all...

my friend it is both indigenes and indigenes. the worst part of the whole ish is the falling standard. the hospitals are so unorganized now so dirty and the few nurses are treating patients as if they are worth nothing unlike 2014 when they cared so well on their patient with doctors visiting and taking care of patience on one on one bases. they even gave us free medicines and some provision
so sad that things has really changed embarassed

That is the difference between a Govt of Rotimi Amaechi and that of Nyesom WikED
Is Amaechi vindicated now or not?
When people cut their nose to spite their face, this is what you get. Continuity of good programs matters in Govt and that has been the bane of most places governed by blacks.

I have not really thought of the political angle as am not from that state but i think every state aught to have developmental philosophy which all the succeeding government have to fellow especially if it is really a good one.

the current government have to look into this because this is one of the very few things a used to admire about the state.

My elder Sis recently delivered her second child and as usual I came down to Port Harcourt to support her in hospital. I was really surprise unlike my first visit in 2014 when she had her first a lot of things has changed in those public primary health centers. The first time I came in 2014 I was truly impressed with what I saw and wished that every state would replicate the Rivers state health care model. I saw numerous health centers even in remotest of rural areas like the rout I traversed to PH_Elele, Isiokpo, Igerita, etc. the one my elder sis uses is the one around I think mile 1, Emenike. during my first visit in 2014 then the Hospital was very clean, so organized with doctors and nurses attending to patience. the very good thing about the health centers is that its services was all free of charge both for indegines and non indegenes. they even gave free medicine and provision to women who give birth there as I witnessed and they sponsored women to the state secondary health center frree of charge should they require surgery. all these I witness during my first visit in 2014 and I was like this model should be emulated by every state to relieve the suffering of people especially the poor masses.

But fast forward to 2017 I was really disappointed to the level of rot and visible deterioration that I witnessed. the health center is just a showdown of its self so dirty and very few nurses and barley a doctor was on sight. my elder sis was complaining that apart from the N15,000 she was charged and other numerous fees that she paid she's getting a per below services. she swore that this will be her last time of going their. the information I also gathered was that the lackadaisical approach of most of those health centers is currently costing lives cry

It is so bad that Nigeria leaders can not sustain good policies that will favour the poor masses but will pull all the stops to defend policies that will favour them and their cronies embarassed

Stop quoting me or do you want me to post the real pictures of Owerri here and now? 87% of the roads in Owerri and Imo state at large are in a total mess. Maybe we can do it with pictures for clarification. cool

This thread is talking about inner streets but we have not seen one here but continuous recycling of government house pictures which is common in every state. Show us decent inner hoods where the common man reside like the ones below.

I am waiting..

[s][/s]

those pic you posted up their are virtually in every city in Nigeria really. even katsina where I served have better roads than the ones you put up there. you must also know that every city in the world has its own fair share of slum and Owerri is not the least affected. the city also has its not too good side though not as bad as the average slum in Nigeria cities. as I said before most of those pic I posted covers vast area of new Owerri and it environs which requires considerable time to drive round. It is not a reserve area as you can find residential homes as well as commercial centers especially relaxation spot, resorts, hotels, casinos, fast food, shopping centers etc. if I could remember government house is close to Rockview hotel in old owerri and most of the streets/roads are in ok condition.

If you are "thrilled" about this, then you have low standards as to what makes a city world class.
my brother I have been to most cities in Nigeria, Calabar, Abuja, Lag, Ph, Kd, Enugu, etc but I find what I saw in Owerri really fascinating. as a person I love nature and life and from what I saw in owerri no city in Nigeria can do better trust me. but by the way this thread is about the streets around owerri especially the architectural design of roads in new owerri. And what make a city a world class city if I may ask?
