Education / NITDA Awards Scholarship To 92 Nigerian Postgraduate Students For 2017/18 by Lautechgossip(m): 10:28pm On Mar 28, 2018
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has awarded 92 scholarships to Nigerians pursuing Masters and Doctorate degrees in relevant areas of Information Communication Technology, ICT, and ICT Law for the 2017/18 scholarship year.

NITDA said the award was in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s drive for human capital development.

The scholarship scheme was established in 2010 with the aim of bridging the digital divide through human capital development, and emphasizes on creating and supporting a knowledge-based economy.

A statement issued by Hadiza Umar, NITDA’s Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations Unit, said, “two scholars are selected per state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at Masters Level and one scholar per Geo-Political Zone of the country at Doctorate Level”.

The statement reads, “The scholarship scheme is highly competitive and candidates are selected based on academic excellence and leadership qualities. Applicants go through rigorous and transparent selection process; holders of Bachelor’s degree with First Class or Second Class (Upper) Honours in any IT related field are eligible to apply for the MSc scholarships while only lecturers in any of the Higher Institutions of Learning in the country with MSc in any IT related field are eligible to apply.

“After application, shortlisted candidates sit for a computer-based aptitude test and two candidates with the highest scores from each of the 36 states and the FCT final interview for the MSc while only one candidate per geopolitical zone is invited for the PhD scholarship.

“Through the Agency’s efforts at assessing and addressing ICT skills requirements to support President Muhammadu Buhari’s sustainable economic growth and development strides through the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), this year, the scheme was expanded to cover diverse areas including LLM ICT Law. Furthermore, in an effort to enhance access as well as provide opportunities to both public and private Universities in the country, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FBCS, the Director General/CEO, introduced the Nigerian version of the scheme.

“According to Dr Mohammed Idris Yelwa, Director Human Resource and Administration Department of NITDA, this academic year, a total of 5,504 candidates applied out of which 2,188 sat for the computer-based aptitude test. The final interview is designed to assess candidates’ academic merit and exceptional character traits that will enable them maintain highest level ethical values, discipline, dedication to studies and be worthy ambassadors of the country – an innovative extension of the selection process introduced by the Director General to enhance the scheme’s credibility.

“Dr Yelwa further revealed that each scholar studying abroad receives an average package of 17.5 million naira per annum comprising tuition fees, personal allowance to cover accommodation, living expenses and other allowances while in-country scholars receive an average of 3.5 million naira and about 752.5 million naira is spent annually on the scheme.

“From inception of the scheme to date, the Agency has successfully sponsored 341 Nigerian Graduates in various ICT fields at Masters Level and 42 for Doctorate Level at Universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Australia. A number of beneficiaries of the Scheme are now in full employment while others have set up viable IT business ventures that are providing employment opportunities as well as developing globally competitive products and services, thereby making valuable contribution to the Nigerian economy.

“We are encouraged by President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to sustainable human capital development for economic recovery and growth as well as the exemplary leadership of Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami in ensuring that scheme is sustained and entitlements of NITDEF scholars are paid regularly, despite the challenges of recession.”

Education / Top 15 Most Competitive Universities In Nigeria by Lautechgossip(m): 9:37am On Mar 23, 2018
Anytime I write articles on Jamb Cut of mark and Admission process, I always use the term “COMPETITIVE UNIVERSITIES“. What really are competitive Universities? Competitive Universities are those that everyone wants to gain admission into. These schools Usually have large number of applicants every year and at such difficult to gain admission into.

Apart from the fact that these schools are strict in their cut off point and admission process, there is a pride you have when you study in any of them. A student of the University of Ibadan will be proud to say, “I AM A UI STUDENT”. It is good attending a school you will be proud of.

Education / JAMB 2018: Reason For "No Result YET" In UTME Portal Dashboard by Lautechgossip(m): 4:11pm On Mar 20, 2018
Many 2018 UTME candidates have complained bitterly about not being able to access their JAMB 2018 result after logging into their account on JAMB result checking portal .

There have also been unconfimed reports that candidates who previously verified their results of the exam that was conducted during the first week(March 9th and 10th) also said their results were no longer accessible and was displaying " No Result Yet ".

Reason for NO Result Yet in JAMB Result Portal

JAMB previously made it clear that all results will be thoroughly scrutinized before being released to public. This is done to avoid errors of cancellation after the result have been released.

Candidates who are found guilty of malpractice during the UTME will therefore have their results withheld.

Therefore candidates who previously checked and confirmed their results should note that those results weren't approved by the board.

According to reports, JAMB 2018 results should be out on the 20th of March 2018. All candidates are therefore advised to wait for an official confirmation from JAMB before taking further actions.

Education / 311 Not The Highest Jamb 2018 Score; A Blogger Scored 337 by Lautechgossip(m): 12:09pm On Mar 18, 2018
Is it true that the highest score so far in Jamb 2018 is 311? This is the topic we shall discuss today.

It is true that dailypost, naija.ng, puch, vanguared and other news websites have been parading Aliyu as the candidate with the highest Jamb score so far. This is absolute lie. I am bold to tell you that there is a student who scored 337 in Jamb 2018. It is also possible that there are candidates with even higher Jamb score.

Saheed, who is a blogger and student of Flashlearners scored higher than Aliyu which have been reported to have score 311 in Jamb. Funny enough, Saheed was among the first set of students whose Jamb results were released.

Saheed Soneye, who is from Ogun State score 337 in Jamb 2018. You can check out his Jamb slip below or visit Jamb portal to confirm his score.

It is very possible for some candidates to score more than this. If you have seen a higher score around, please share so that the truth can stand.

Jobs/Vacancies / Vindication Of A Senior Staff At My Place Of Work by Lautechgossip(m): 4:38pm On Mar 16, 2018
@Oluwanishola Akeju

A senior staff where I work, was sacked after facing series of panels. He'd been apprehended. I felt sorry for him just as alot were. I was aware of the great challenges awaiting him. Few staff passed him greenbacks when the going was tough. And for all he gathered on his departure, was very little.

It all started after he'd been promoted. Other personnels who had ran for the position too were embittered. There were false sayings that he had bought his way up with bribes as it was rumored.

In promotion there lies jealousy. Massive jealousy. It's always hard moving up that way.

The hatred was much. It was obvious.

An internal robbery came up and it was his office they had used getting to the money room through the ceiling. Account section.

The investigation came up as it were to be, suspected one were suspended and aligned. This man wasn't in the account section but for the reason be, that his office was thresholded. He became a suspect.

Things didn't go well as some showed up to testify against him. Many of us believed it was a set up, but no one was so sure as you can't trust anyone. No one could stand tall for him. He was retrenched after series of panels. One of those who had testified falsely took up his post.

That happened in November last year.

God is powerful. You see, I believe prayer works but so also is time.

Like that saying " time will tell"

Just last month, I don't know much about what had instigated the case to be reviewed. But what we all saw yesterday was a turned table. Two of those who testified falsely were sacked. God vindicated him.

It was an emotional reunion for him joining us once again.

It isn't easy being jobless, he must had gone through a lot of pain being accused wrongly about what he knew nothing about.

All past months remuneration had been paid with allowances.

I shared in his happiness afar as he went on his kneels thanking his God.

Many don't get that chance. He was favored.

If it is not of God, it 'shall' not stand.

Education / Perfect Payback For Lecturer Who Failed Me For 6 Years In The University by Lautechgossip(m): 10:45am On Mar 14, 2018
My first day in the biology laboratory was a dreadful one. During a briefing session a day before we were to have practical during my 100level, We had been told that it is a customary to always put on the ‘laboratory coat’ each and every time we have practicals, hence whosoever without the laboratory coat will be punished.

I’d no money as at that time to buy laboratory coat, and the first practical came just too soon. I couldn’t borrow as my only friend in the school then was Asiwaju Olalekan Godson Ayodeji. Anyway, I knew breaking the rule of not putting a ‘laboratory coat’ was a bad idea but I was young and wrong to take that risk.

I had no choice than to enter into the laboratory room to get engaged with my fellow departmental mates.

Not quite long after I entered the lab, one of the biology lecturer who handled biology practical came around. He spotted few of us without the ‘laboratory coat’ and decided to play a fast track on us, he wanted to get hold of us. I was fortunate to be sitting near the entrance door, so I got away.

He was able to lay hands on few guys unaware but everyone of us that escaped went into his black book. He called our class rep then, and collected our matric numbers. Printed them and pasted them in his office. It was printed boldly.

That was how myself and other guys that ran away failed Both the practical and the actual Biology course that year.

Personally, I sat for the same courses for good 6years; making it 6 different times entirely.

On my third year of rewriting, I summoned courage to visit him in his office. I went to see him to plead with him, he didn’t know me, he only knew of my matric number. So I’d to take the bull by the horn to explain what had happened. He laughed wickedly and angrily sent me away, I returned the next day. He told me, if I return again then it would be very bad and I won’t like it. I left him for a week. I consulted my advisor, Dr. Mrs Adigun. I explained everything to her… She told me, I should give him time, and to return to him after sometime. That he may consider my ‘show of repentance’. So I didn’t return for like a month.

Then one day, I was returning from a friend’s place Osisami Babalola Enitan on Friday after I had gone to play chess, I saw him also returning from the mosque. We both met along the school former fine-art department, just by the way that leads to Alata eatery, Under G.

I quickly used the opportunity of meeting him just coming from the mosque to plead yet again. He treated me like ‘shit’

He still went on to fail me even in my 400level. On my final year, I went to him, then I was married. I took my pregnant wife to plead with him. He walked us out and told us never to come again. He promised to report to the school security. So we left.

He failed me for 5 years consecutively. It was hard for me.

I wept for days.

I told my parents, and few friends.. It prevented me from going for NYSC with my class 13′ set.

Then I turned to God. Yes, I was guilty and I deserved punishment but that was too much. I prayed ‘no be small’. So many different phases of life, most times it is always our fault that we find ourselves in difficult situations but immediately we get to seek God for help, he surely always provide us a solution to all of our problems. I seek God’s face and he never fails.

That biology course was taken away from him and was given to someone else, it was given to another Dr. I can never forget him.

I registered as a spill-over student, and sat for it, I borrowed 4 other courses to boost my CGPA, I collected my result and my biology 101, 102,104 and 106 were all A(s).

That was how I got cleared.

Moving forward, During my service year, after I redeployed from Abia state to Oyo, I was posted to the West Africa examination council. (Waec) Ijokodo, Ibadan. Great place with wonderful people. On my great work ethics, being dutiful and so diligent during my service year, I was given the green card and permitted at all time to work during their examination and marking exercise each and every time I so wish. Oluwafemi Martins my great boss, one of the great people I had worked with.

Coincidentally, I was officially sent to Ogbomoso marking venue as an assistant subject examination officer to partner my Waec daddy

I was handling Biology and chemistry subjects.

For the ones who don’t understand the whole drama during the Waec marking exercise.

We give out the examination scripts to qualified teachers or graduates with the certification in their specified subjects for marking and recording during a stipulated period of 21/23

So that day in April, there was a long queue of Examiners waiting to submit their CV. Then this Dr. lecturer that failed me for 5years was on the queue too, I’d spotted him.

My wonderful Waec daddy was beside me, he asked while I was smiling, I simply told him that something funny will soon happen, and when it was this Dr’s turn, He greeted and called me “sir” (bending his head). I quickly stood up to greet him too. But I was so surprised, he didn’t recognize my face. Apparently, he would never have thought and believe and to be possible for the young man in front of him to be me.

So I pretended as if I had nothing in mind too, I was going through his CV when he started pleading that he really needed my help concerning this marking stuff, he told me he came along with his daughter who is a gate crasher ( these are people who are new to the marking system) and his wife who also had marked for a long time but needed to mark too.

He told me Ladoke Akintola university of technology had been on strike for over a year and nothing seemed fine, no salary. No money and nothing at all. I should help him. At that point I told him to call his wife and daughter. He did. I then asked him; “Sir, Is it truly that you do not recognize my face?”

He said, “ehn! It’s like this face is familiar o but you know there are many people like that I can’t remember. I can’t really remember where and when I had seen your face”. I told him to try, that I will only help him if he can remember where we had met and when..

He didn’t remember so I helped him out with my surname, I told him. “This is Akeju, the guy you failed for consecutive 5 years. The guy that brought his pregnant wife to beg you but still, you sent us away”.

At that point, he was dumbfounded. He left without saying a word. His wife and daughter were confused and everyone on the queue too. His wife asked what the matter was, I told her to go and ask her husband.

Shortly, His wife and daughter returned. He had explained everything, they knelt down and asked for forgiveness. I smiled and asked them to tell him to come back. He had gone home. In the evening he did returned.

He asked for forgiveness, and I did forgave him. More than he had asked for, I granted him all of his requests. We were not permitted to give more than a packet packed of scripts but I gave him more than one. Just for him to make more money. He wept uncontrollably.

Matthew 5:44 “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”.

I only know of the way of doing good even unto them that do me evil.

Till I left ogbomoso, he was always calling because I had put enough food on his table and not only him, but also for his family during that difficult period they were going through.

It’s left to him, if he will change or not.

Our tomorrow isn’t promised.

Crime / Fraudsters Impersonate Ambode, Attempt To Defraud Lagos State Government by Lautechgossip(m): 12:13pm On Jan 17, 2018
The Lagos State Government on Tuesday arraigned two suspects for attempting to defraud the State Government of N50million by cloning the official line of the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

The two suspects – Rilwanu Jamiu and Balogun Oyewole were arraigned before Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya of the Lagos High Court in Igbosere on three-count charge bordering on the alleged crime.

They were charged with possession of fraudulent document, impersonation and attempt to commit a felony. The Accountant General of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Shukurat Umar testified in court and revealed how she received a text message from the suspects on February 10, 2016, purportedly from Governor Ambode directing her to transfer the sum of N50million to a designated Keystone Bank account.

Umar, who was led in evidence by the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adenijii Kazeem, explained that she found the message suspicious and highly irregular.

This prompted her to bring the message to the Governor’s attention, who ordered the immediate investigation of the matter. The investigation was conducted by the Department of State Security (DSS) and led to the eventual arrest of the defendants, who were subsequently charged before the court.

The prosecution also called Mr. Wale Odu, Director of DSS, Lagos State Command, to give evidence in the matter. In his testimony, Odu confirmed that the investigation leading to the arrest of the defendants was conducted by his team.

Religion / Ekiti 2018: Catholic Bishop Urges INEC To Call Campaigning Politicians To Order by Lautechgossip(m): 4:09pm On Jan 13, 2018
Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Femi Ajakaye, has frowned against some governorship aspirants in the state who have started campaigning before the legally approved time.

Governorship election has been slated for July 17, this year.

Ajakaiye, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to call such aspirants to order.

The bishop, in his 2018 New Year message, made available in Ado Ekiti on Saturday chided those jumping the gun to commence campaigns, adding that going by the Electoral Law, it is not yet the time for campaigns.

"But realistically, most of the aspirants started their campaigns in 2017, "he added.

The cleric, who termed 2018 as "Year of Encouragement" charged Nigerians not to continue to despair in the failures of the past but that we should "retrace our steps and think, plan and act positively and meaningfully.

"In 2018, we are to learn from our different experiences in 2017. This is not the period for complaining perpetually. As hopeful people, we must keep encouraging ourselves."

While noting that there are lots of people who have continued to express their interest in the governorship race, Ajakaye said their campaigns were "noticeable in their promotions on both radio and television. Posters and billboards are strategically placed in different parts of the state, especially in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital."

He charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act promptly and call those breaching the electoral law to order saying "there is need for sanity. The people who are violating the law should be prosecuted as a lesson for others."

On the coming elections in the state, the cleric said he had also observed that politicians had been wooing the citizenry of the state with what they referred to as "empowerment", saying "some of these so-called ‘messiahs’ even set up foundations" to woo the unsuspecting masses.

He said: "I have also observed that it is when elections are approaching that different people will emerge as aspirants and many of them will introduce programmes and activities which they claim as empowering the unsuspecting masses.

"All in the name of helping other people! These people are one-off people with one-off programmes. Such people tend to exploit other people and use them as ladders to get what they want and remove the ladders once they satisfy their desire, forgetting nothing lasts forever and no condition is permanent. This is food for thought for the people of Ekiti State."

He noted that "Nigeria needs true leaders who will be sincere and purposeful witnesses in their words and actions. Leaders who will not be engaging in destructive vendetta, leaders who will not be interested mainly in awarding themselves, families, cronies and hangers-on contracts, giving themselves undeserved national honours and promotions, leaders who do not care about the unity and survival of Nigeria

"In this light, in 2018, Year of Encouragement, all well-meaning Nigerians must join hands together in our search for true, selfless and purposeful leadership, rather than allowing a cabal to keep ruining our country; all in the name of leading or ruling. Lesson of life – Never put your mouth in motion without thinking deeply. By God’s grace, we shall overcome."

He charged that "As children of God and citizens of Nigeria, let us return to God for real cleansing, purification. By doing this, God will be in us and we will also see and recognize God in other people. Not only that, we will also be able to get our priorities right as we walk our talk and our prayers wherever we find ourselves this year."
