Phones / The Quick Way To Download Songs To Your Iphone From The Internet Direct by LayGiri: 10:41am On Sep 30, 2014
This particular issue has been a plague of sorts, you see people lament on how they can not see a song online and download it real quick to their phones because it is forever tethered to iTunes.

There is a workaround for this problem now, although the songs will not be automatically added to your music library, they will be present on your phone and you can listen to them and even share them with your friends at no extra data costs. You can then decide to move them to your iTunes library when next you are at your computer.

The phrase “There is an app for that” applies here and the app is called idownloader or idownloader pro in the case where you are interested in a little more functionality. CONTINUE READING ON AUTHOR WEBSITE...

Food / Five Healthy Foods That Can Be Too Healthy by LayGiri: 8:21pm On Aug 30, 2014
Experts say that overdoing it with certain nutritious foods can be really dangerous, even life-threatening. There’s no need to ditch these foods from your diet altogether, but you have to avoid taking in excessive amounts since that’s when they can start to compromise your health.

Oranges and tomatoes: You’ve got to be careful to not overindulge with these delicious but highly acidic summer staples. The increased acid intake associated with eating too many oranges or tomatoes can lead to reflux, and over an extended period of time, this can cause Barrett’s Esophagus, a disorder in which precancerous lesions form on the esophageal lining. Stick to no more than two servings of oranges or tomatoes a day, and avoid these foods altogether if you already have symptoms of reflux.

Canned tuna: This easy-to-prepare, low-cal fish is a healthy salad or sandwich go-to. However, eating too much of it can result in dangerous mercury levels since tuna is higher in mercury than many other fish. Excessive mercury intake can lead to vision problems, impaired hearing and speech, lack of coordination, and muscle weakness. Make sure you don’t consume more than three to five cans of tuna a week, and try other fish.

Water: While hydration is key to good health, excessive water consumption can cause water intoxication. This happens when extreme water intake dilutes the sodium in the body, resulting in an abnormally low blood sodium level, which can lead to impaired brain function and even death. Yes. Water can kill you. How much water would you have to drink for this to be an issue? It’s typically only a problem for ultramarathoners and people who force themselves to over-drink. But to make sure you’re not consuming too much water, check your urine: If it’s always transparent, reduce your intake.

Soy: While soy can help control cholesterol levels and blood pressure when consumed in moderation, it also inhibits iron absorption, so excessive intake has the potential to cause iron-deficiency anemia. Also, because soy contains estrogen-like compounds (isoflavones), long-term consumption of large amounts has the potential to cause endometrial hyperplasia, a proliferation of the uterine lining that can lead to uterine cancer. While there’s no exact cutoff for how much soy is safe, you probably want to stick to two servings per day or less.

Spinach: This versatile and delicious leafy green is packed with goodness: It’s an excellent source of protein, fiber, and various vitamins and minerals. Spinach is also high in lutein, a carotenoid that may help prevent age-related macular degeneration (a common cause of vision loss and blindness). However, spinach is also high in oxalate, a compound that can lead to the formation of kidney stones—so patients with calcium oxalate kidney stones should avoid overdoing it with this vegetable.

Fashion / Rubber Is The New Leather: Rainboots For The Season by LayGiri: 11:53am On Aug 30, 2014
So, a couple of days ago, it rained really bad. The floods were amazing! Chayee! And then there I was, crying internally as I was in my favorite pair of flats. Obviously, I ruined my shoes.

Then and there I swore to the gods that that would never happen again, as for the rest of this darned rainy season, I was only going to be in rubber footwear. Then I halted: did I swear too soon?

I hurriedly said a quick prayer to the fashion gods to save me from my own mouth. Like, really? Rubber footwear? I’m sure most of you are like “eh, neh. I wouldn’t be caught dead in that.” But fear not! For I bring you good tidings of great… News?

The fashion gods decided to hear my cries and they pointed me in the direction of rain boots. No, not those horrid rain boots you had to wear as a child. I’m talking about boots like these!

Really, could this be any cuter! So chic and über stylish! Just wriggle into your favorite pair of jeans, put on a cute blouse, then throw on a jacket or sweater, and you are ready to go! And you’re ready to go looking super cute, too. CONTINUE READING ON AUTHOR WEBSITE

Computers / Reasons Why Nokia Should Not Have Signed With Microsoft by LayGiri: 11:15am On Aug 30, 2014
We all know Nokia’s phone division has been sold to Microsoft in it’s entirety. But that’s not the signing I’m referring to. So let’s keep reading shall we?

Do you remember those many years ago when Nokia was the biggest mobile phone brand in the world and the Symbian OS was the in thing? Back then Nokia would build strong phones with unrivaled battery life in lots of funny shapes and sizes. We didn’t care, we loved them and we bought them. Matter of fact everyone must have handled or owned a Nokia phone in their life time (except you are really young as in the indomie generation kids). Point is, Nokia had a good thing till they made the worst mistake they probably could and they did it on purpose too.

In April 2011 Microsoft and Nokia announced a deal worth billions of dollars which inadvertently meant future Nokia phones would only carry Microsoft’s Windows OS. Didn’t seem like a bad deal at the time, in fact in a press release/ joint statement I extracted this quote;

Microsoft delivering the Windows Phone platform to Nokia will enable Nokia to significantly reduce operating expenses.

What they forgot to mention was that gradually Nokia will not only lose market share drastically, but also, Nokia will fade into obscurity up till the point where Microsoft will then be able to buy it’s phone division and lay off thousands of Workers. OK maybe it’s not as terrible as I make it sound… Or is it?

Lumia phones are great, wonderful vibrant cameras and screens and what not. Their fundamental problem being their OS. The Windows phone store is mediocre at best. Barely any apps worth your while. I mean Instagram and BBM just got on there. I think the only OS doing more poorly than Windows will have to be BlackBerry’s BB10 OS. And that’s putting it mildly because most people would still rather buy a Z10 than buy a Lumia 720. True story.

Now imagine a world in reverse, imagine Nokia didn’t sign that deal and opted to sign with Google for an exclusive Android OS deal. Or better they continued to freelance on software. Imagine the first phone with Android 4.4 kitkat was CONTINUE READING ON AUTHOR WEBSITE

Phones / How To Fix Your Slow Samsung Galaxy Android Phone by LayGiri: 11:06am On Aug 30, 2014
Is your Samsung Galaxy Android device running slow?
Have you tried every cleaner and memory maintenance app out there and it still runs slow?
Are you ready to just smash the phone and give up?

If you answer to atleast 2 of the questions above is “yes” then you have found the right blog post for a solution.

Let me start off by saying something everyone else seems to be avoiding “Samsung is very very foolish”. Now that I have that out of my system, let me begin by telling you the reasons your phone/device is still running slow no matter what you do; “Samsung Default Apps”

Take a Galaxy S3 for example. Initially when you bought this device hot off the hype everything worked great. Over time Samsung will update this inbuilt apps to work even better on newer devices with more juice as far as memory capacity goes and they will forget the GS3 users have to manage a miserly 1gb of ram. In fact it is less than 1gb, more like 850mb. So many of these in built applications are so unnecessary also. Why do you need Samsung Group Play or Samsung Cloud Data Relay or even Samsung Apps in fact. You already have Google play.

Enough about the foolishness of Samsung, here is a list of applications you should disable and your phone should starting running way faster once you are done:
1. Samsung Apps (you can’t delete it so just disable it)
2. Group play (very useless feature no one ever used or will ever use)
3. Samsung Cloud Data Relay
4. Samsung Push Service
5. Samsung Account
6. Chat On (if you don’t use it disable it)

Music/Radio / Flawless Remix By Beyonce Ft. Nicki Minaj by LayGiri: 2:56pm On Aug 03, 2014
Flawless Remix is something else, especially because Beyonce decided to use it to address the elevator brawl that ensued between her sister Solange and her husband Jay Z. The best part has to be the banter that has ensued on social media since the song dropped. If you recall, the 3 released a united statement after the incident:

Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family. The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false. At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.

But Beyonce said on this song and I quote “Of course sometimes sh*t go down when it’s a billion dollars on the elevator” and then she repeated again. LOL smiley. Enough about this, I will just let you listen and guage the song for yourself.

Health / Now That Ebola Is Here... What Do We Do? by LayGiri: 4:05am On Jul 26, 2014
Now that ebola-virus is here… What do we do? How do we handle it? First, I have to tell you guys not to panic. You will be fine. I’m gonna give you a few tips on preventing contracting the virus. It is well.

Oh, yes. A quick introduction. According to the WHO, the ebola-virus disease is a severe, often fatal illness in humans. EVD outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90%, and the outbreaks occur primarily in remote villages in Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests. The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission. Fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are considered to be the natural host of the Ebola virus. Severely ill patients require intensive supportive care. No licensed specific treatment or vaccine is available for use in people or animals.

Now, there is no cure or medicine or anything for the EVD, at least not officially. It is a swift, vicious killer. However, some people survive. The ebola-virus disease claims about 90% of its victim’s lives. There’s hope.

They say prevention is better than cure. As there’s not even a cure for this, prevention is our best bet. EVD is a severe acute viral illness often characterized by the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. This is followed by ... Music/Radio / Let’s Live Together By Kush, Phyno & Morell (OST Half Of A Yellow Sun) by LayGiri: 11:41pm On Jul 23, 2014
Half of a Yellow Sun the movie is finally here! But before the long-anticipated movie is released next month, we present to you, the official theme song for the movie titled “Let’s Live Together” which is also the first single from the forthcoming official movie soundtrack album. The 4 minute track is a remake of the highly popular song released in 2002 by KUSH. This 2014 remake features Lara George and Emem Ema of KUSH, as well as renowned artist Flavour, industry phenomenon Morrell and in addition, a special feature by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the award-winning writer and author of the novel “Half Of A Yellow Sun”which inspired the film. The movie is a love story set during the Civil War and depicts the circumstances at the time, including the divisions and distrust amongst Nigerians that led to coups, violence and the desire for Biafra. The song urges us, in these present times, to live together as one, irrespective of our differences in tribe, tongue, and religion. The main message of “Let’s Live Together” is that our diversity is in fact a source of strength. Three of our country’s main languages are represented with Lara George of KUSH displaying her award-winning powerhouse voice with a soulful rendition in Yoruba. Flavour adds his emotional and unique vocals in Igbo and Emem Ema of KUSH displays her trademark rapping skills in Hausa (having grown up in Jos) which was one of the most popular features of the original hit -along with adding her own backing vocals to blend with those of Lara. Morrell collaborates with Emem on the Hausa rap and delivers a powerful additional Hausa vocal. Let’s Live Together” is a heartfelt appeal to Nigerians to live together in peace and unity and a reminder that there is strength in our diversity as a people. The official video of the single premières tonight at Industry Night. #LetsLiveTogether #HalfOfAYellowSun
