Not everyone who applied to join the police Force get accepted. Even the american born in the US also get rejected. I would advise you not to generalize based on the experience of few Nigerians whose applications got rejected. The reason could be that other applicants were more qualified than the Nigerians who got rejected. Once again, we need data from all department accross the country if we have to prove that discrimination against Nigerians is at play with respect to employment with the police Force. So far, there is no indication that discrimination is involved here.

This is the link of the Police officer born in Nigeria. This officer apparently had finished his high school in Nigeria.

the article says "Nigerian born police officer" no name was given just in case you don't know a majority of Americans thinks MOST migrants from africa are Nigerians

In my own opinion,i think the Americans-white and to some extent the African Americans even despise immigrants from other developing nations like Nigeria. However it doesn't make sense to give someone citizenship and then turn around to deny him or her some rights and jobs...I would say Canada is better in that aspect and reason being that Canada is a country of whole loads of immigrants so the federal job denials is not evident as the immigrants out numbered even the supposedly born Canadians...a permanent resident regardless of which country he comes from who has stayed up to 3yrs even without being a citizen can apply to the police force and get the job...
Heard Canada is way better in term of privileges and opportunities. been researching moving to Canada

I'm not American, but what you speak about is also commonplace in the UK where I live. I think it also happens in most western countries. There is always an undercurrent of subjective bias even though they deny it. It's more than just the accent, it has to do with a difference in culture between natural-born and naturalized citizens. Some people choose to deny that subjective bias exists, but I think they are living in denial.

I have resolved that even though I might carry a British or American passport, but I will always be an African living in a whiteman's country. The bottomline is that you shouldn't allow it dampen your drive to be the best in your career, if anything, it should be a strong motivational factor to make you aim high and succeed against all odds. I know many naturalized citizens who faced the same challenges, but who have risen above it to achieve more than what the natural-born have achieved academic and career-wise.

However, subjective bias does exist.
very great write up. Honestly, there have been instances where i questioned the privileges of my citizenship. like in certain federal jobs and managerial positions in private american firms. I'm an american (naturalized) but i see my country as a collection of different nationals-Chinese, Indians, Mexicans, Nigerians etc etc claiming the tile american in lip service but in reality are Chinese living in america, Mexicans in america. this does differ if i were to be native born. just to buffer my point and i may be wrong. i am not everywhere in the USA but i have never met a Nigerian born immigrant (immigrant in from early 20s) who is in the police force. i have been told by several naturalized Nigerians that they never got accepted into the police force no reason given.

Sometimes i struggle with the feeling that i'm an american and also a Nigerian in america. when i say struggle, i feel certain jobs i apply for despite being qualified as a citizen is not given and at the end native-born citizens are preferred despite having similar or better training. i feel the accent thing no matter how much american u claim affects u a little bit. Some people still see you as foreign. Actually some americans don't even believe you are a citizen with full rights like them. feel free to share your opinions..

@ Justwise you know life is precious and even though i'm not supporting the offence, life imprisonment would do. There is no point revenging with death. Moreover, life imprisonment seems more punishment than death penalty irrespective of how expensive it may seem.

Hey peeps, please advise on this case:

A friend got a B-1/B-2 visa with his family last week. The rest of the family member got an email notification that the passport is available for pickup at the DHL office specified to receive only for the primary applicant email not to be sent. He was called yesterday to visit the embassy back for another interview. Anyone experienced such or know anyone who experienced such before? If yes, please advise on what to expect or how to approach this matter because I never heard such before.

Thanks.

SpitsOnYoruba:
If you plan on coming here, i have some tips that will save your life

Forget about the America they show you on the T.V
They're thousands of homeless people sleeping on the streets Los Angeles, New York and the big cities
There are places in the USA where people still live in the cave, doesn't wear clothes or shoes and no electricity or running water
There are places in New York that are 100 times worse than Ajegunle

USA is the country where you get killed for wearing a Nike or Jordans sneakers worth only $120

In the USA, you can't just walk into some streets or neighborhood you don't know like you do in Nigeria

Do you wanna know how dangerous USA is ?? Come to Compton or Chicago, you will live in Afghanistan for 7 years without being killed, you can't live in America for 2 days without being killed or your friend being killed

20 of my friends were killed last month for nothing, just sitting in their homes and they were gunned down

1. Don't argue with Americans, they're the most ignorant people on earth

2. Don't get in trouble with anyone, buying a gun is very easy, you walk into Walmart, give them $100 and they give you a gun

3. Americans glorify violence, if you go to jail or kill someone, to them you're a God, killing you will make them feel accomplished, so don't try to argue with anyone

4. Don't go to nightclubs

5. Don't go to the ghettos

6. Mind your goddam business

7. When stopped by the police, give them all your information, license, registration, proof of insurance, don't worry about going to jail if your your driving papers ain't up to date, you will spend only 1 hour in jail and you will be bailed with $65

8. American police are trigger happy, do whatever they tell you to do, don't argue, in fact lay on the floor immediately they ask you to

9. Americans talk too much like women, don't waste your precious time talking with them

10. The most dangerous country in the world is USA
I'm from Nigeria and have been living in the USA for 12 years but i go to Nigeria every 6 month.

Let me tell you, the very first day i came to America, i landed in New York city, i was so disappointed and wanted to go home immediately
Those fantasizing about the USA are those who haven't been to America

USA is the most dangerous country in the world
Chicago is just a city in the states of Illinois, they're the murder capital of the world, Detroit is the second, California is the third

I've seen about 200 murders in the USA but i haven't seen any murder when i was in Nigeria, how is Nigeria or Africa dangerous ??

The police will kill innocent people and at the end of the day, no charges, no jail sentence, there will still be in the police force

As for the citizens, A child doesn't know who his father is because his father is in jail and will never get out, the child will have kids before the age of 23 and before the age of 27, he commits a murder and gets a 70 years prison sentence, the cycle continues and never stops
Killing people is nothing to them

The number of murders that occur in Chicago and Los Angeles in a year is greater than the number of murders that happens in every country in this world put together

Always remember, USA belongs to the Indians, these people from the great Britain came into the USA in 1776 uninvited, killed all the Indians, raped their women, took their lands and named it "USA" and you think they give a fucck about your life ??
But na wa for your name sha "vomit-on-yoruba"

Bullcrap Nigerians are far more intelligent than Ghanaians, not even in your wildest dreams. You guys are criminals in nature all you do is cut corners, steal reap where and what you did not sow. There's a reason why your kinds are getting killed in Asian countries and no one wants you in their country. You don't respect the law of the country or the citizens.

If you are so smart, hard working and intelligent and hard working how come Indians, South Africans and Chinese own your country.

If you are hard working how the mass are dirt poor who can't even afford rice. Fool let me preach something to ignorant azz. No matter what country you go to an immigrant will always out perform the locals.

In the western world United States, U.K. And cannada Africans out perform the average citizen. Th same way Ghanaians that came to Nigeria during the 70s out perform the average citizen till your jealousy kicked them out.

You Nigerians are arrogant, uncivilized, disrespectful and bunch of b.tches. You disrespect citizens of every country you go to and when the citizens retaliate you cry foul.

I repeat you are not smarter, hard working or anything than anyone. Cutting corners, cheating and reaping what you did not sow does not make you smarter, it only lead to two places in jail or 6 feet under.

do aeroplane have heaters? cos i know they have air-conditioners.
in the cockpit, do you see other plane flying especially in crowded route and wave at other pilots
how do you eat and shit for long flights
can a plane stay still in air? i mean still while airborne no movements?
why don't planes reverse? they have tow trucks push them backwards off gate
is taking off more challenging than landing?
can drinking and flying (flying under influence affect how you operate the plane? and how do they know? (i mean the police)
can you dose off and fly past your destination airport? like driving past busstop?
thanks

Travel / Re: How American dreams are becoming a Nightmare for desperate Nigerians by lindaayim(f): 11:32am On Apr 22, 2016
nice post but i disagree on some of your points.
1) Not all Nigerian migrants to USA are for economic reasons. myself i am here mainly for freedom from oppression by police, army and agberos, better education, better healthcare and obedience for rule of law/accountability of government, as well as functional system. i am not going debate about which is better between life in usa or Nigeria but one thing i will tell you and back up with evidence is people still queue in us embassy to come give birth to children here even with the things u said about this place. My question to you is why do they come have their children here?
