Politics / Re: Jonathan Off To Brazil As Kaduna, Yobe Burn: Height Of Insensitivity by livapul86(m): 10:39pm On Jun 19, 2012
Am absolutely Shocked to read some posters trying to justify the President's travel. Do you guys actually know the primary function of the President? As spelt out in the Constitution, the primary role of GEJ is to guarantee the Security and Welfare of its citizens. For GEJ to leave the shores of this country when the Security of this country has been clearly breached is enough ground for the Nat. Assembly to institute Impeachment proceedings as the President has clearly Abdicated from his primary Responsibility.
Just last year, during the London riots, the British PM had to rush back to England even though his deputy was in England.
I want to believe this forum isn't populated with paid goons of the President and that we can be Objective.
Politics / Re: Fighting At Barnawa Area In Kaduna by livapul86(m): 7:28am On Jun 19, 2012
betrani: What were u expecting him to do? U talk about GEJ, not being able to bring issues under countrol! Have u guys mounted pressure on him to bring people like atiku to answer some questions? The guy is scared because he feels he is fighting our enemies alone and nigerians aren't giving him support! When would we stage a protest against boko Haram as we did against subsidy? When will we match to atiku's, IBB's, Buhari's et al houses as I heard some people did against Otedola and co? These issues ve gone beyond GEJ alone! We nid to live like a united community against one next door sour grape neighbor! U guys think tackling boko haram is like eating GALA! See y employers need experience! Only in nigeria would a new president need a 4year cognate experience in the military or aso rock to be president!
I expected him to put off his recent travel, as his country is Clearly Burning. You said in your post that the President is scared, if that is indeed True, then our Problems just got Worse. We need proactive and courageous steps to be taken. Firstly, the Presidency needs to draft a bill proposal on Terrorism, to be sent to the Nat. Assembly for immediate Action. The bill should be Tailored on the US Patriot Act. By the time this bill is passed into Law, it would give the government the legal framework to go after those people you mentioned.
Politics / Re: Fighting At Barnawa Area In Kaduna by livapul86(m): 11:23pm On Jun 18, 2012
We are Truly Unfortunate to have GEJ as our President. For goodness sake, Nigeria is Burning and the man has the presence of mind to junket to Brazil for a meaningless summit. PITY!
Politics / Re: LIVE: Special House Of Reps Session On Bribery Scandal by livapul86(m): 2:32pm On Jun 15, 2012
Billyonaire: I was happier when I wasnt listening to Nigerian News and not even caring about the polity, I was more focused on US politics and I decided I should pay attention here and may be I could decide to vie and change certain things in future. But, I have decided today, I am no more interested in what happens in Nigerian Polity, my sensibility is insulted by what I saw today on TV. To hell with Nigeria politics.
Bro, as unfortunate as it is, your post above is the Gospel truth. The Nigerian political scene is a depressing place to be involved with, if you are an observer like the vast majority of us are. Each passing day, brings forth more absurdities than you can stomach.
Some posters made a reference to knowing your representatives by name, not a bad suggestion but does it really change anything? I doubt. The name of my rep. in the House is Prof Chudi Uwazurike, he rarely comes to the house sittings and on those days he bothers to come he contributes Nothing to discussions on the floor of the house. I have written to him more than once, yet no reply and no change. As for my Senator, Amb. Nwagwu his case is equally gloomy.

crackhouse: Conversation between John & Temitope who lives in U.S.A. John is rich and have a good job while Temitope doubles as a house help and a nanny. JOHN:- Temitope, i will travel to naija next week to see my parents. TEMITOPE:- haba john, i thought u travelled sometime last 2months. JOHN:- yeah but u know, i just want to see my mum & siblings and to stay with them for a while, u know. TEMITOPE:- it's o.k & when will u be back?. JOHN:- ehmm, i will stay just 2 weeks. TEMITOPE:- o.k, greet my mum for me when u get there. JOHN:- o.k i will do that but Temi wait o, is it not up to 4yrs u stopped visiting Africa?, Whats wrong?. TEMITOPE:- i felt there's no need visiting since i always speak with my mum & siblings on phone and besides i heard there's a lot of kidnappings & robbery in naija these days, i am afraid i may fall into their hands if i travel. JOHN:- but i have been travelling for a long time now and i have not heard or seen where sb was kidnapped, why will that thought of yours stop u from travelling to go & see ur parents for 4yrs now?. TEMITOPE:- ehmm, john u may not understand but i really know what i am talking abt. infact, to be frank with u i don't have money for air ticket. Do u know how much it will cost me to travel to Nigeria? That's roughly $5000k excluding the money for village expenses, where will i get that kinda money?. JOHN:- i feel ur pain, it shall be well o.k. TEMITOPE:- thanks john. I will wait till when i have saved enough money. JOHN:- bye. TEMITOPE:- bye, see u when u come back. Now pals, this is the real reason why many of our naija guys are stucked over there but they will tell u their reason is b/cos naija is bad as if there is no crime where they are. Whereas they are damn broke and they ain't gat no money.
Oga from your post, you're trying to paint the hustle in Naija as overflowing with success. I am in the same Naija with you, and each day comes with its own choking problems for me. I won't mind understudying you to share success stories too.

But Naija and Jamb knocked me back into Reality, I got 'Jambed' into Geology. I tried, made the most of it and graduated but still on the Job hustle.

This continous talk of 'Showing off' is just disgusting. As of this moment, am still very much a Struggling young man,to now think that if and when I make something of my life that i would be censured and foo.lishly termed 'showing off' for having the good things of life is absolute Crap. What is even more pathetic is that Society seems to condone this very grievious Crime of Kidnapping by labelling Successful people as 'Show offs'.

@OP: You're creating a problem when there is virtually NONE. He has by tradition already conceded the Trad marriage to your place. Let me state it Clearly to You, the white wedding in Igboland is the PEROGATIVE of the groom's family. It is because most Igbo couples get married in Lagos thats why you're confused, in actual fact If they had decided to take the church wedding to their villages, they would have done no wrong.
Read carefully the post of Blank, that is an Igbo woman that understands the culture of her people. Also, read up Mutter's submissions.

Don't allow people that DON'T UNDERSTAND the issue, create problems for You.

@Ivnywa: You made some brilliant submissions but beyond that, one key problem that has continued to plague us as a people is our mediocre and 'e no concern me' attitude. We are not addressing the issue of first responders in an emergency in this country, that should be the local government. Unfortunately, our LG's exist only in names because contrary to popular sentiments LASEMA got there in good time considering the terrain. As Pro1 said Everything is in God's hand but as a people we need to rise above our mediocre attitudes.

Unfortunately, It seems no one is asking serious questions about the victims on the ground. They are Equally unfortunate victims of the disaster and should be factored in the compensation plan. Some Kids in the crashed buildings have been orphaned by the negligence of Dana, they shouldn't be abandoned because they didn't buy an air-ticket.

afam4eva: Why not offer this first class brains good jobs rather than dashing money like father Christmas. These politicians sef.
With all due respect, that is a very myopic view. For the umpteenth time, First class graduates have no business jostling for jobs, they should be encouraged to undertake further schorlarly roles. The problem we have in our educational system today is the dearth of brilliant academics willing to undertake research roles in our universities. For goodness sakes, most jobs are perfunctory and with continous practice anyone serious person would perform.
The government should continue to support our first class grads.

Kimmo:

What's wrong with our mentality?! Please. Men and women have specific roles assigned to them. One of the women's roles is to BE the woman in that marriage. That includes cooking. It is NOT slavery. There's a thin line between independent woman and bitter divorcee. Why do u think there's such a high divorce rate in ur wonderful western world with the wise mentality?! Because, for the sake of balance, there has to be a MAN and a WOMAN. Evn gay couples hav their masculine/feminine version.

If I were a guy, I wld def NOT marry a girl that cannot cook. Shikena.
Finally!!! Thank you mademoiselle.

manheem: you wonder why there is so much bitterness in the world when you see miserable people come online to imsults faceless people that they dont even know, all i have put her is 'did i do something wrong by lieing and what could i have done better' not 'is she a devil/woman' and if you cant grasp that and also grasp my statement about being rude, then there must be something so miserable about your life that you could only come online and vent your anger on faceless people.

i hope this thread doesnt go the normal way every other thread degenerates into where insults are thrown here and there.i 've had some advises and opinions of posters here and i'm quite ok with that.
Applause!!! Guy, just ignore them. They want to hear you say, you would cut off the relationship. In local parlance, we call them Ogbanje, they are looking for miserable people so that they can suck blood and be happy. They cleverly ignored one of your posts that stated how she has apologised. moremi2008:

Spoken like a true illiterate aboki! It's only bloody illiterates that equate rational thinking with "Oyinbo" mentality. First, you weren't married to this woman; and she was smart not to quit her job until your married her. Second, even if you were married, in your particular situation, the best thing for the FAMILY would be for her to quit her bank job (it's a win-win for her because she would have made more money running your company with flexible work hours). Your story is not a particularly relevant one and does absolutely nothing to support your "oyinbo" mentality claims.

There is no cut and dried answer for issues like this because every situation is different. Both the wife and the husband must put heads together as ONE to figure out what's best for the family as a whole. There is nothing "Oyinbo" about sacrificing your manly ego to do what is best for your family.
In your quest to label him an 'illiterate aboki' you failed to apply your exalted reasoning skills to full use. He clearly stated she was his fiancee, did you for a second consider that in a bid to get married he probably told her of his intentions and the need to move to his company. But in her quest to assert herself, she refused, so he promptly cuts off the relationship knowing that they won't be compatible.
@OP, It would be difficult or rather impossible for me to move without tying a job first in the new place.
