Politics / Adamu: I Wasn’t The One Stripped Naked In Viral Video by Loveurneighbour: 3:01pm On Dec 11, 2022
Adedayo Akinwale in Abuja

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu yesterday debunked reports that he was stripped naked at the palace of the Emir of Lafia in Nasarawa State as recorded in a video that has since gone viral.

Adamu, through his Personal Assistant on New Media, Malam Nata’ala Mohammed, said those making such allegations were not honest to themselves and were mischievous, adding, ”they are only seeking relevance.”

He said: “A viral video of a man that was stripped naked on Thursday, December 8 at the Emir of Lafia’s palace, which was also insinuated and suspected to be the APC National Chairman is false.

“It was the mere imagination of mischievous people who are unfamiliar with the physical looks of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

"This unfortunate misplacement of the true physical look of the person of Adamu is not in any way to be linked to him,” Mohammed said.

Also, a pro-democracy group, AA Sule Progressives Forum, has vehemently condemned the dastardly act that occurred to their Grand Patron, Alhaji Abubakar Giza, who holds the traditional title of Ciroman Giza.

The state Coordinator of the forum, Mr. Jonathan Samuel described the incident as barbaric and unbecoming.

He stated that Giza was an elder statesman and an APC stalwart who has been a very strong pillar of support to the government of Nasarawa State.

According to Samuel, Giza is a peace-loving man, urging “the evil act done to him by some unscrupulous elements should not be played down.

“The perpetrators of such a dastardly act should be identified and brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said

He emphasised the need for all and sundry to be security conscious at all times, saying, “these bad eggs are lurking everywhere.”

Samuel also urged the security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the culprits.

Politics / My Government Will Keep Nigerian Universities Open Forever – Atiku Promises by Loveurneighbour: 9:03am On Dec 11, 2022
The Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has promised to ensure the unity of the country, make life better for the people and ensure Nigerian universities don’t go on strike if elected president.

The former Vice President stated this on Saturday at the PDP’s presidential rally held at the Eagles’ Square, Abuja.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities had on February 14, 2022, embarked on strike over the Nigerian government’s inability to honour the 2009 agreement.

The industrial action crippled academic activities in government universities across the country for over 8-months.

But ASUU had been going on strike since the 2000s under administrations led by PDP presidents.
Taking a swipe at the Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government over the most recent strike action, Atiku said the nation’s universities would never experience strike for ever if he was elected president.

“We have promised education is key for everyone, we will make our universities remain open forever,” the former Vice President said.

The PDP presidential candidate also promised to release all entitlements of Abuja indigenes, including the much demanded constitutional review.

Atiku praised the loyalty of PDP supporters in the Federal capital territory, saying that the party did not take it for granted.

“We have no reason to believe you won’t support us again. We are here to pledge that if you support us we will give you all your entitlement; appointments and other demands including constitutional review. In the process of restructuring we will give you all what belongs to you.”

On security, Atiku vowed to secure the nation’s capital if elected.

He said, “We shall protect and secure Abuja for your own safety. You know my 5 point agenda, I will unify the county; no part of the country will be left untouched. Peace for everyone. These I promise you.”

“Abuja will be the first to feel the impact of the govt. PDP will fullfil all the obligations to you. We are not taking your loyalty for granted. We will pay back but not with hunger and insecurity."

Politics / 2023 Presidency: God, Human Beings Are My Structures – Peter Obi by Loveurneighbour: 8:56am On Dec 11, 2022
By Seun Opejobi

The Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described God as his first structure.

This was as Obi said human beings are his second structure.

He spoke at the first and second convocation ceremonies of the Dominican University in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Obi lamented that the structure within the political circle was that of criminality and underdevelopment.

He insisted that the political structures in Nigeria were responsible for the country’s challenges.

According to Obi: “My number one structure is God, the number two is human being, and you people are my structure because you believe in me and in what I am saying.

“The structure we have today is that of criminality and underdevelopment. These structures have ruined the country.

“So, the question is, do you want to continue with the existing structure or you want a new structure?

“If they say I give unverified statistics, let them come with theirs. They cannot say I give wrong statistics, yet fail to give the right statistics.”

In the past, the former Anambra State governor has been accused of lacking political structures.

Members of other political parties had said Obi can’t win the 2023 presidential election because he lacked the political structure.

Education / Sack Randy Lecturers, Buhari Tells Varsities by Loveurneighbour: 7:53am On Dec 11, 2022
By Bola Bamigbola

The President, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged other higher institutions of learning in the country to emulate the manner Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has been dealing with the challenge of sexual harassment between lecturers and female students.

Buhari, who spoke in Ile-Ife on Saturday at the 46th convocation of the university, said the future of promising young girls in higher institutions of learning across the country could not be entrusted into the hands of sexually reckless individuals who were masquerading as lecturers.

He, however, commended the OAU management for the way it had tackled sexual and other related harassments headlong without minding those involved.

Represented by the Director of Academic Planning, National Universities Commission, Dr. Abiodun Saliu, the President further said as part of efforts to resolve the incessant strikes in higher institutions of learning, the Federal Government had provided a total sum of N470n in the 2023 budget.

According to him, the funds were meant for revitalisation and salary enhancement, calling for support in funding tertiary education in the country.

He said, “I will be failing in my duty as Visitor if I do not commend the Council and Management of this great citadel of learning for dealing, very decisively, with cases of sexual harassment.

“In fact, this university deserves commendation on the way and manner it is tackling sexual and other related harassments headlong without minding whose ox is gored.

"I want other institutions of higher learning to emulate OAU in summarily terminating the appointment or dismissing any lecturer who uses or is using his advantageous position to sexually harass our young, unassuming, innocent and impressionable girls.

“We cannot continue to entrust the lives of our promising young girls into the hands of some sexually reckless individuals who are masquerading as lecturers on our campuses.”

On the 2023 general elections, the President appealed to Nigerians to elect credible representatives without undue recourse to ethnic sentiments or religious affiliation.

Politics / Ogun Labour Party Reveals How Doyin Okupe Was Broke Before Joining Peter Obi’s C by Loveurneighbour: 8:34am On Dec 04, 2022
The state’s spokesperson further disclosed that Okupe had not given the party a “kobo” in the past seven months.

The Labour Party in Ogun State has insisted that expelled member and Director-General, Doyin Okupe, was financially handicapped before joining the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

The party executives, Michael Ashade and Abayomi Arambambi, claimed on Saturday that Okupe allegedly went on to steal N100million campaign funds after joining the PCC.

Ashade, state party chairman, said they were levelling charges of “financial impropriety” against Okupe who until his expulsion, served as the PCC’s director general.

Arambabi said Okupe initially lobbied to be made the state party chairman on the basis of using the position to raise money for Obi’s presidential campaign.

“He came to ask us at the initial stage that we should give him state chairman so that he would be able to mobilise funds for the party,” asserted Arambabi, Ogun State’s Labour Party spokesperson, on Arise TV Saturday morning.

In response to questions about whether Okupe had actually given the Labour Party N4million, Arambabi revealed that the expelled member – who always complained about Obi’s tightfisted nature – said he also had no money to contribute to the party.

“Let’s be very categorical here: Dr Okupe does not have any N4million to spend on Labour Party,” said the Ogun State party spokesperson.

He challenged Okupe to “come here to tell us how much he gave to the 24 members of the state executive. He complained about Mr Obi, it was on the record, that he doesn’t give him money, so he has no money to give.”

The state’s spokesperson further disclosed that Okupe had not given the party a “kobo” in the past seven months.

“He has not committed his kobo to that party for seven months. It was when he started campaigning for Peter Obi that he came to us to say that he has some money to spend into the Labour Party,” the spokesperson said.

Politics / Dino Melaye: Peter Obi Can’t Win Election, ‘Obidients’ Euphoria Already Dying by Loveurneighbour: 12:06pm On Nov 06, 2022
Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Dino Melaye has reiterated that presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi can not win election, saying the euphoria of his ‘Obidient’ supporters is already dying.

Melaye made this assertion while addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday.

“By January, it will go down more, because people will realize that it is going to be a wasted vote, people will realize that he (Peter Obi) cannot become president, people will realize that voting for Peter is voting for Tinubu, so that is why I’m having a clarion call on Peter Obi, gentleman, progressive minded, sound, to in the interest of this country for his tomorrow, he should give his today and come back home to support his elder brother and mentor,” he said.

According to Melaye, Obi has no national spread to emerge as President of Nigeria in 2023.

The Atiku campaign spokesperson urged Obi to return to the PDP.

He said a vote for Obi in February is a vote for the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, “because Obi does not have what it takes to win the election”.

Melaye asked Obi to work for the emergence of Atiku Abubakar because “Nigerians cannot afford another four years an APC administration that will “continue with insecurity, kidnapping, banditry, rise in the price of goods and commodities in this country.”

He said, “Nigerians must know that any vote for Peter Obi is a vote for APC. Because Peter Obi cannot make it. So, anybody that is voting for Labour Party is actually voting for Tinubu. Anybody that is campaigning for Peter Obi is actually praying and working for Tinubu to become the President.

“If you are voting for Peter, you are depleting the votes of PDP because Peter cannot make it. Labour Party only fielded 30 out of 109 candidates for the Senate, so who is going to protect the votes of labor party, when even fielding candidates for 109 senatorial districts, they could not. ”

Melaye also explained that no ethnic champion has ever made it as president of Nigeria.

“Buhari himself, ran on regional grounds three times and lost woefully because he was a regional champion, both in ANPP, in APP, and in CPC, he couldn’t win until he eventually run on a national platform. When people like Atiku, Tinubu, Saraki, myself, formed a National Party, was when Buhari could now become the president. So historically, Peter ought to know that no regional champion can be president in Nigeria.”

“With Peter or no Peter, Atiku is going to win the next election. Because we have looked at it, we have looked at the spread, we have looked at the acceptability, we have looked at the programs. We know that APC cannot make it. Nigerians will not vote APC with the outrageous situation we are in in this country.”

Crime / TINUBU: Inside The Afenifere Meeting That Moved Against Peter Obi by Loveurneighbour: 11:55am On Nov 06, 2022
By Dayo Johnson, Akure

No doubt, the pan-Yoruba socio political group, Afenifere, is in disarray over the choice between the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his Labour Party (LP), counterpart, Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The disagreement in the group’s preferred choice for the coveted seat, come 2023, came into light when Afenifere’s two topmost leaders, Chief Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Reuben Fasoranti, openly clashed last week.

But, a deeper look at the development showed that the disagreement was not really between the two elders but between two tendencies within the organisation.

Adebanjo is Afenifere Acting National Leader while Fasoranti, his predecessor, is Emeritus Leader.

Fasoranti had announced Adebanjo as Acting Leader last year on account of old age. Before then, Adebanjo was Deputy Leader.

Counter coup

A reliable source hinted Sunday Vanguard at the weekend that the last Sunday visit to Fasoranti by Tinubu was designed to rubbish the earlier endorsement of Peter Obi believed to have been solely done by Adebanjo.

According to the source, the visit was well hatched and successfully executed by Tinubu’s loyalists who are members of the APC within Afenifere.

“It (visit) was designed to rubbish the decision of Chief Adebanjo to single handedly endorse Peter Obi without recourse to other leaders of the group including Pa Fasoranti”, he said.

“Do you know that the Akure meeting was actually a counter coup? The meeting was not convened at the instance of the Afenifere leadership, but by another Yoruba group known as Conscience of the Yoruba Nation (COYN) which comprises politicians with sympathy for the ruling All Progressives Congress and prominent Yoruba leaders”.

The essence of the meeting, according to the invite sighted by Sunday Vanguard, was “to discuss the historic 2023 general elections and guide the Yoruba people of Nigeria to take a definite and wise decision in the overall interest of posterity and also an interaction with one of the leading candidates, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The invite was signed by the Director General of COYN, Abagun Kole Omololu, and Mr Dare Babarinsa. Omololu is the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere while Babarinsa is also a top member of the group.

The meeting was attended by Yoruba leaders from Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Kogi and Kwara states.

Twist

But in a twist, the aspiration of Tinubu to contest for the presidency topped the meeting agenda.

Tinubu’s media handler also played a fast one by churning out a statement that he was visiting the Afenifere leader to present his ‘Action Plan’ on how he intended to tackle the economic and other problems the country is grappling with.

The endorsement, however, took the better part of the meeting as the presentation of the ‘Action Plan’ was merely a formality performed at the end of the parley.

A source privy to the entire plan to hit back at Adebanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi, said that many leaders of Afenifere were not consulted by the Acting National Leader and blamed him for running the group as his personal estate.

“Baba Adebanjo started showing that he was power drunk after Pa Fasoranti stepped aside and appointed him as the group’s Acting Leader because of old age”, the infuriated source said.

“He single-handed appointed the General Secretary of the group and others without recourse to the larger house.

“While majority of the leaders preferred a former Education Commissioner in Ondo State, Chief Korede Duyile, as the new General Secretary after Basorun Arogbofa resigned, Chief Adebanjo, picked another Ondo former Commissioner, Chief Olusola Ebiseni.

“Many of us decided to stay aloof and were even not happy that the group’s meeting was shifted from Akure, the country home of Pa Fasoranti, to Ogbo- ljebu, Ogun State.

“While this internal squabble was going on, the endorsement of Peter Obi, without recourse to other leaders, blew open the crisis within the group.

“The mistake made by Pa Adebanjo in endorsing Mr Peter Obi on behalf of Afenifere is that he didn’t take cognizance of the fact that most leaders of the organization are pro-APC.

“The ACN that joined others to form APC came from AC, AD, SDP, UPN and ultimately the Action Group floated by Afenifere.

“These parties are the political arms of Afenifere. That’s why it’s an aberration for him to go all out to endorse a candidate outside this historic tendency that became known as ‘the Progressives’. The issue is a historical one and has nothing to do with playing ethnic politics.

“Both Pa Fasoranti and Pa Adebanjo were foundation members of Afenifere and the defunct Action Group. Since those days, neither of them has departed from that path, the path of ‘the Progressives’.

“Nothing says that old people cannot disagree. The disagreement is not really between the two elders but between two tendencies within the organisation. Of course, they would soon resolve it. To disagree is normal and natural”.

Politics / L Party’s Presidential Campaign Makes U-turn, Says Talks Ongoing With Kwankwaso by Loveurneighbour: 8:57am On Nov 06, 2022
This is coming a few weeks after he said talks on an alliance between his party and NNPP are “dead”.

The Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe, says the party is still in talks with the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso and others with a view to forming an alliance.

“Those discussions about mergers, alliance were led by me from our side and it’s dead and buried. The Labour Party and its presidential candidate have long since withdrawn from that conversation. It was NNPP that tried to continue to benefit from the traction of the popularity of Peter Obi,” Okupe had said.

“The talk about the alliance had been dead for over four weeks.”

Earlier in the year, there were reports that Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, were in talks for a possible alliance. The move, did not, however, materialise.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Hard Copy, a pre-recorded show aired on Friday, Okupe said LP was still looking to form an alliance with Kwankwaso and other parties.

“As a party, at our own campaign level, we are talking to SDP; we are talking to even Kwankwaso and his team again. We are talking to PRP and ADC,” he said.

“I believe and I trust that God will help us that between now and December, we would bring together that alignment politically in the country and the country would be better for it.”

According to him, the move is to ensure that “whoever wins is not just winning on a sole effort; we are winning with the cooperation of many of as many groups as possible.”

He also dismissed criticisms over Obi’s visits to some power brokers in the country, saying it was meant solely for “carrying everybody along” in the scheme of things.

“Somebody won an election in this country, he did not rule. He was loved by Nigerians but some stakeholders stopped that. We have to avoid that by carrying everybody along, “Okupe added.

“Even if they don’t agree with us initially, let them not oppose us; let them not see us as enemies. We are not enemies of anybody, a group, or any part of the country. We are just a sect of people who mean well for the country.”

Oyeyemi said a relative of the victim lodged a complaint at the Owode-Egba divisional police headquarters on June 9, 2022.

The PPRO added that the family member reported that the victim left his house at the Kobape area on June 8, 2022, and did not return home.

He said, “Upon the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation and unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the man.

“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the SP Taiwo Opadiran-led team subsequently embarked on a technical and intelligence-based investigation, which led them to the hideout of Friday Abinya Odeh on September 22, 2022, where the SIM card of the victim was recovered.

“His arrest led to the apprehension of his accomplice, Poso Idowu. On interrogation, the suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim on June 8, 2022, at the Kobape area around 7.30pm, from where they forcefully took him to the bush, killed him and dismembered him.

“They confessed further that it was one herbalist, identified simply as Arab Money, who they claimed to have contacted on Facebook that prescribed the ritual for them.

“All efforts to recover the remains of the victim proved abortive, as the suspects claimed to have disposed of it.”

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police had directed that the suspects be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

Politics / ‘i’ll Make My Choice At The Ballot’: Ngige Hesitates To Endorse Tinubu Over Obi by Loveurneighbour: 8:02am On Oct 08, 2022
Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, on Fridayappeared to hesitate in endorsing his party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Mr Ngige, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, said he will make his choice at the ballot.

“I’m not active in politics for now because I am facing national assignment,” he said when asked his preferred candidate between the APC’s Tinubu and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

“Both of them are my friends. My choice will be in the ballot box. It is a secret ballot. I shouldn’t tell Nigerians what I would do secretly.”

He however noted that Tinubu performed incredibly well in Lagos and laid “a solid foundation” for the state, an often-used campaign argument made by APC supporters.

When pressed on who he feels will win the 2023 elections, Mr Ngige said the big parties have problems.

“We have problems in APC; PDP has their own. Their own is two times our own. Our own is family disagreements.

“If we get our acts together, my party will sweep.”

Politics / What I Will Do If Elected President — Peter Obi by Loveurneighbour: 7:20am On Oct 08, 2022
Unveils plans on insecurity, oil theft, economy, corruption

Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi has unveiled his policy thrust if elected President of Nigeria in 2023.

Obi, who is in the United States of America in continuation of his international consultations with the Diasporas, gave a vivid picture of what his government would do in all critical areas, including his top three priorities, if elected to office.

Below are details of the Questions and Answers that gave copious insight into what governance will look like in Nigeria if Obi is elected Nigeria President in 2023.

How do you see yourself making a difference in Nigeria?

We will offer a new brand of transformative and purposeful leadership. Nigeria is not bereft of good governance ideas and plans. However, a combination of institutional weaknesses and a lack of political will meant that various policies and strategies are poorly implemented leading to poor outcomes for the people. Hence, the overall goal of my administration shall be to streamline governance, and make it more responsive, transformative, effective, less transactional, and therefore efficient and cost-effective.

What kind of leadership do you hope to provide Nigerians?

Thinking through 2023 and beyond, we must think seriously about a leadership that is imbued with competence, capacity, credibility and commitment. Accordingly, we will pursue intangible assets of good governance, rule of law, and security of lives and properties; we will ensure that we have these assets in place and stress asset optimization.

Africa has looked to Nigeria for leadership but has found it absent and wanting. What would you do to restore leadership?

Our foreign policy has always been Afrocentric. So, Africa will remain the centre-piece of our foreign policy. We will strike a strategic balance that allows us to promote and protect national interests while meeting our ECOWAS obligations. We will rebuild Nigeria’s military power, promote economic growth, and enhance its technological prowess with a view to improving Nigeria’s diplomatic influence in sub-regional, regional and global affairs.

Restoring leadership will require that we reassert proactively, Nigeria’s leadership role in African affairs through constructive engagement, peacekeeping duties, and using existing sub-regional and regional forums as well as bilateral platforms for dialogue on current and emerging challenges. We will continue to enhance our sphere of influence via peacekeeping, and trade and investment initiatives.

The sense of being part of a united country has been eroded. How do you see yourself reuniting Nigerians?

Securing, uniting and making Nigeria productive require steady and trusted hands. We shall ensure that in moving Nigeria forward, no state or community will be left behind. Pursuant to its statutory responsibility to protect, our government will promote equity in power and resource sharing. There must be a renewed sense of patriotism; that will come through leadership by example.

Do you think that states and regions need more autonomy?

You are indirectly asking about restructuring. I consider restructuring a process, not a one-off event. Yes, if we have a real federation, the federating units will enjoy discernible autonomy. Resources will also be shared equitably. A higher derivation paid to oil or solid minerals-producing states will not be tantamount to other states not receiving federal allocations that should keep them viable. We must transcend the rhetoric that bedevils a robust debate on some of these national questions.

In the past, the ethnic identity of the President has resulted in a preponderance of unqualified people being appointed to key positions. How will you address this problem?

We will respect the principles of federal character, affirmative action and gender balance; but no longer at the expense of merit.

How do you propose to address the security challenges in the north and those of oil theft?

The relevant security institutions and agencies exist. Supporting national security-enabling documents and strategies also exist. We will tweak the security architecture, which will entail reform of the security sector and governance. We will restructure, reequip and reorient the Nigerian Police: This will include three-level policing- Federal, state and community. We will build a compact, robust and ready Mobile Police Force with rapid response deployment capabilities; and legislate the establishment of state police based on community policing. We will raise the population-to-police officer ratio to a higher level.

There would be a properly manned, equipped and technologically driven security system with particular emphasis on re-focusing the military on external threats and border protection and police on internal security threats and law enforcement; swift prosecution of criminals, bandits and terrorists; enhanced coordination among security agencies; and upholding the rule of law.

Operational Coordination

We would integrate the activities of the National Intelligence and Security Agencies by establishing a central reporting intelligence loop under the authority the Minister of National & Homeland Security; Establish a National Command and Control Coordination Center for the efficient management of actionable intelligence, resource allocation and force deployment. Membership should consist of representatives of all security agencies on a need-to-know basis.

Politics / Rivers Demands ₦5 Million From Political Parties Before They Hold Rallies by Loveurneighbour: 7:07am On Oct 08, 2022
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has signed Executive Order 21 to prohibit the use of public schools for political parties without approval from the Ministry of Education.

Wike said applicants would also deposit the sum of N5million caution fees in case attendees destroy facilities in the schools.
He also said the application for approval must be submitted at least two weeks before the date of the campaign.

Wike stressed that a local council chairman had the right to stop any rally if approval was not sought.

He also warned that the state government would not allow political parties and their supporters to disturb the peace in the state, as the campaigns begin.

The Rivers State leader advised candidates for next year’s election to be committed, peaceful, and responsible in their conduct as required by law.

He threatened that any head of school that connived with political parties to hold rallies without approval by the state government would be dealt with.

Governor Wike reiterated his stance against the use of hotels and other leisure spots as meeting points by hoodlums and cultists ahead of the 2023 elections.

Politics / Go About Your Businesses’ — Ipob Dismisses Sit-at-home On Tuesday by Loveurneighbour: 10:14am On Oct 02, 2022
By Chimaobi Nwaiwu, NNEWI

THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB Sunday said that there will be no sit-at-home on Tuesday 4th October 2022, because its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not appearing in Court on that day.

Contrary to the speculation that IPoB, leader Mazi Kanu is going to appear in court for his continued trial in Abuja, and as usual the Igbos and Biafra as a whole will give him the usual solidarity by observing the sit-at-home, they have been giving him any day he is appearing in Court, the pro-Biafra group said that IPoB is actually going to Court in Umuahia, Abia State to challenge the alleged illegal abduction and extraordinary rendition of our Mazi Kanu, from Kenya to Nigeria, and not that its leader will be appearing into Court that day.

In a statement by IPoB image maker, Comrade Emma Powerful, entitled “No sit-at-home on Tuesday 4th of October 2022”, the Nigeria government must provide evidence to the world on how and why they allegedly kidnapped and renditioned its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Nigeria at Umuahia High Court, and therefore the people of Igbos and Biafrans should go about their businesses on Tuesday.

IPoB’s statement read, “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, under the leadership and command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to remind Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom across the world that IPoB is not issuing a sit at home order on Tuesday 4th of October 2022.”

"The 4th of October 2022, is actually a day when IPOB is going to challenge the evil done by the Nigeria government over the illegal abduction and extraordinary rendition of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria.

“Nigeria government must provide evidence to the world on how and why they kidnapped and renditioned our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to Nigeria, at Umuahia High Court.

"Yes that day is his Court date for IPoB, but our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not appearing in Court on that day, therefore, there will be NO sit-at-home on that day. We want every Biafran both home and in the Diaspora to ignore such rumours, and anybody who is responsible for peddling that kind of falsehood should stop it immediately. IPoB leadership has not authorized such purported sit-at-home order.

“IPoB is watching those with such mindsets who suffer our people. They will regret their actions soon. Anybody who contributes to the death of our people will pay dearly whether he or she is a security personnel, civilian, religious leader, man, or woman, including the politicians who contribute in small or big measures to ensure that our people ensure human, and material losses. They will all pay dearly.”

Politics / Borno Holds First Independence Parade After 12 Years by Loveurneighbour: 12:04am On Oct 02, 2022
Borno State government marked the 62nd Independence Anniversary of Nigeria on Saturday with a parade, the first in 12 years since the Boko Haram insurgency began.

Governor Babagana Zulum presided over the ceremony held at Ramat Square in Maiduguri.

He said the event was made possible by the return of relative peace in the state.

Zulum, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Usman Kadafur, lauded the military and other security agencies for the uncommon successes recorded in various operations against the insurgents.

The governor said that the successes in the terror campaign enabled the state government to close all displaced persons’ camps in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas.

He explained that most of the displaced persons voluntarily returned to their towns and villages.

The governor said the task before the government was to rebuild critical infrastructure destroyed during the 12 years of insurgency.

“We renew our commitment to confronting the challenges of critical infrastructure destroyed by the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency.

“And explore avenues to create job opportunities for our teeming unemployed youths, thereby, minimizing the upsurge of social vices in the society.

"We remain confident that with the massive investments we have made in the last three years in the expansion and strengthening of our resettlement and recovery effort, we shall succeed in our commitment to provide the dividends of democracy,” he added.

He pledged to provide vital services to the people, to enhance livelihoods and economic growth in communities.

“On a sustainable basis in the attainment of our policy thrust, we have a duty to improve on job creation, access to education, healthcare delivery services, security, potable water supply for both human and animal consumptions, among others.

“We can do these only in a climate of peace and security,” Zulum said.

He enjoined the citizenry to remain united, live peacefully and shun all tendencies capable of plunging the nation into chaos and anarchy as the 2023 general elections approached.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a detachment of police personnel conducted the parade while another medals parade was held to honour officers and men of Operation Hadin Kai involved in the fight against insurgency.

The personnel were honoured for their gallantry and sacrifice in various operations against insurgents in the state.

Politics / Will Biafra Agitation End If Peter Obi Wins 2023 Presidential Election? by Loveurneighbour: 11:51pm On Oct 01, 2022
By Chinagorom Ugwu

Ernest Lawrence (Ebonyi State): I believe the agitation for Biafra will not end even if Peter Obi wins the presidential elections. His victory would create room for even a stronger agitation, as we would have our own brother in the front line of the agitation. Unless, however, those leading the agitation would soft pedal based on the fact that for once, we’ve tasted the presidential seat with Peter Obi winning the election.

Chukwudi Ewa (Ebonyi State): If Peter Obi wins in 2023, his leadership style may not favour the Hausas and Yorubas. This could lead to agitation for their own Oduduwa and Arewa states as the case may be, thereby leading to a stronger agitation for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra (in the South-east). So, unless there’s no such thing, then there would be no further agitation. And if there is, then the country would move towards division and the Biafra agitation will be among them.

Simon Chibueze (Anambra State): To me, Biafra agitation is an idea. If Peter Obi happens to win the election (in 2023), it will calm down the agitation, but that will not end the agitation. It will make the youth not to be violent or disobedient, but as time goes on, I don’t think that the idea of Biafra will end. I think so because many Igbo people have sacrificed their lives in the course of this agitation. This means that Igbos need a republic called Biafra. You remember what happened during (Goodluck) Jonathan’s regime, the agitation was not much because Jonathan happened to come from this Eastern Nigeria, but immediately Jonathan left office, the agitation continued. And as I am seeing it, the same thing may play out if he (Obi) wins the election. So, the agitation will drop, but after Peter Obi leaves office, it will continue.

Ifeanyichukwu Emmanuel (Anambra State): The agitation will not end if Peter Obi wins the election in 2023, but it will make Igbos have a sense of belonging. The agitation is something in the minds of the people. It is an ideology. So, Peter Obi’s victory will not end it, but if he (Mr Obi) governs well, I know the agitation will be temporarily forgotten. It will not be wiped away from the minds of the people, however.

Nduka Ezeh (Anambra State): Well, I don’t think that the presidency of Peter Obi will end Biafra agitation, because the issue (agitation) on ground is beyond Igbo presidency or Peter Obi. So, I think we actually need to look in-ward. You know people have been clamouring for restructuring.

Politics / PDP Begs Wike As He Alleges Betrayal, ₦1 Billion Bribe by Loveurneighbour: 5:30am On Sep 24, 2022
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party took a new dimension on Friday with the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, making a series of allegations against the Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, among others.

While the PDP is waiving the olive branch in the direction of the governor, Ayu and Atiku refused to react to his outburst.

At the PDP convention in May, Wike had polled 237 votes to finish second behind Atiku, a former Vice-President, whose 371 votes gave him the privilege of flying the party’s flag in the 2023 presidential election.

Although Wike has continued to pledge his loyalty to the PDP, he is insistent that following the emergence of Atiku, the national chairman of the party, Ayu, cannot continue to preside over the affairs of the PDP given that he is from the North like the presidential candidate.

Politics / Yoruba Nation: Agitations For Self Determination ‘ll Continue If.. – YOV by Loveurneighbour: 3:05pm On Sep 18, 2022
By Dapo Akinrefon

Prominent Yoruba Diaspora group, Yoruba One Voice, YOV, on Sunday, said that agitations for self determination will continue if the Federal Government didn’t address issues that have been threatening the foundation of Nigeria and also pitting the ethnic nationalities against one another.

YOV made this known at the 5th edition of its global conference held via zoom, where participants gathered from all the continents of the world.

The Yoruba diaspora group, while proffering solutions to the myriads of problems bedeviling Nigeria, also warned the Federal Government against clamping down on the self determination agitators, insisting that it is the right of every ethnic nationality to seek justice,fair- play and good governance,as well as self determination, especially, when it becomes very necessary.

The Yoruba diaspora organization also identified prolonged insecurity, bad economy, and loss of hope as recipe for seeking self autonomy by the various ethnic nationalities,
stating further that the present situation in the country is setting Nigeria up for an imminent break-up within two years.

In his remarks, Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, who is also the Grand Patron of the diaspora group, said the Yoruba quest for self autonomy or an independent nation should not be a crime, insisting that there are countries all over the world that sought their freedom peacefully.

He added that majority of Yoruba sons and daughters in the diaspora are seeking self determination because the experience back home is nothing but harrowing.

Adams said: “If Nigeria were good, none of us would have sought the exit door from this country. We would have buried the cause of the struggle.

“But the struggle for a Yoruba nation became more prominent when it was obvious that Nigeria could not sustain the tempo of the ravaging unrest and economic downturn.

“When it was obvious that things have gone awrily. And the nation we always call ours has lost the battle to terrorists and bandits.

“And the country has eventually lost its soul.I think that is the reasons we are having agitations from the six geo- political zones.

“In seeking self determination,we are not ready to destroy the hard-earned glory and heritage of our forefathers.

“There are many options that are better than the present political arrangements.

“Like what happened between 1952 and 1959 in the Western region, when we had self government within Nigeria.

“Another option before the National Assembly that can only save Nigeria from imminent break-up within two years is regional autonomy for the six geo- political zones.

“However, if the two options mentioned above cannot sail through, every ethic nationality can seek self determination as the way out of this logjam.

“Without sounding immodest,it is obvious that majority of Yoruba, especially, those in the Diaspora are tired of this forced marriage .

“Perhaps, those that are against our calls for self determination are either not seeing what we see.

“Or they are not feeling the pain we feel because they are beneficiaries of the bad system that is ravaged by huge debt, increasing spate of insecurity, killings, kidnapping, raping and undemocratic culture of our leaders.”

Also speaking Mr. Alex Ajala, historian from United Kingdom, who was one of the guest lecturers, said the greatest mistake of the colonialist against Nigeria and Nigerians was the 1914 forced amalgamation.

Ajala said the composition of the various ethic nationalities in today’s Nigeria is the bane of the country.

He said: “With the present situation in the country, people of Nigeria should not be called tribes but ethnic nationalities because that is the correct appellation for a multi ethnic country like Nigeria.”

Dr. Simon Olatunji, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Usher Africa from United States of America, also spoke on the need for the Yoruba to be united, adding that the struggle for the liberation of Yoruba race is collective responsibility of all Yoruba sons and daughters.

Olatunji said: “Let us form a strong alliance in the struggle to liberate our race.Let us stop the blame game.Stop blaming the leaders. All hands should be on deck toward achieving this noble ideals”.

In her remarks, Ms Bukky Taiwo, from United Kingdom, also urged all members of YOV to embark on aggressive enlightenment at the grassroots on the advantages of having Yoruba nation.

She said: “We should embark on aggressive awareness for the people at the grassroots. Both in the markets, schools and every available space. We need the traditional rulers too to promote this struggle because it is when people are aware of the reason and advantages of having our own nation that they would be willing to be part of the struggle.”

Those in attendance include Secretary General, Prince Adedokun Ademuluyi, Director of Programme Erelu Abike-Ade, Akingbayi Aare onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Victor Adewale, Olori Adedipe and Alhaji Gani Wahab among others.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu’s Judgment: Metuh Calls For Prayers by Loveurneighbour: 2:57pm On Sep 18, 2022
…Decries Maltreatment of Southeasterners.

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has called for fervent prayers by well-meaning Nigerians for God to intervene and grant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu freedom through the law court.

Metuh, who was also the PDP National Vice-chairman (South East) demanded unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that such will restore peace and normalcy to the South East region with a multiplier positive effect on the entire country.

The former PDP Spokesperson who stated this in a statement on Sunday also decried the “maltreatment and systemic extortion” of South Easterners by unscrupulous operatives in security agencies and government establishments.

According to Metuh, “in the light of the deplorable security situation in the South-East, there is need for unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu to restore peace and normalcy to the region. Peace in the southeast will have a multiplier effect in the entire country.

“The truth is that many people are not happy with the way and manner Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in a foreign country and brought to Nigeria in chains to face all kinds of charges. Nnamdi Kanu is viewed by many as suffering for highlighting the plight of the Igbos in present Nigeria”, he said.

Lamenting the plight of South Easterners in Nigeria Metuh said, “It is evident that Igbos still suffer stigmatisation and unfair treatment in the hands of unscrupulous operatives in security agencies and the Nigerian bureaucracy.

“South East businessmen suffer from systemic extortion in the hands of corrupt Nigerian supervisory officials and such build up resentment by the people in the South East. They pay to survive out of intimidation and harassment because they are very much aware of their unfair treatment by very hostile officials in government agencies.

“Freedom for Nnamdi Kanu will go a long way to calm frayed nerves and reassure the South East that this country has accommodation for them. Let there be justice, equity and fairness in our country” Metuh Submitted.

Politics / ‘we Don’t Engage In Killings—ipob Berates FG Over Alleged Killing Of Igbo Muslim by Loveurneighbour: 5:42pm On Sep 17, 2022
By Chimaobi Nwaiwu, NNEWI

THE Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB has replied to the Federal Government of Nigeria and Northern Nigeria-based daily newspaper, over their allegation that it killed an Igbo Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Iyiorji in Ebonyi State.

Says it does not kill strangers let alone their own.

IPoB, in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful entitled, “IPoB does not know Sheikh Iyiorji, let alone who killed him” said that it does not kill its known enemies let alone killing an Igbo man who is not in any way threat to it.

The proscribed pro-Biafra group said that the important questions the Nigeria Federal Government and Northern Nigeria owned and based newspaper, should answer are, “why will IPOB kill an Igbo Islamic Cleric, and whether the alleged killed Islamic Cleric was a threat to the Biafra movement, and how many of IPoB’s known enemies have been killed in the past, let alone killing their own, irrespective of his religion?

IPoB’s statement read, “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, under the leadership and command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to disassociate ourselves from the alleged murder of a purported Muslim Cleric, Sheikh Ibrahim Iyiorji of Ebonyi State.

“We, therefore, warn Daily Trust media outlet owned by a Fulani man to stop propagating falsehood, fabricated statements, fallacies, and unconfirmed statements against IPOB worldwide.

“We wish to let other media houses assisting them in their desperation to tarnish the image of IPOB to beware of their evil reportage against IPoB known to be peaceful in all its dealings.

“IPOB does not engage in such barbaric killings and cannot be part of such heinous crime against humanity. IPOB does not kill flies talk of human beings and an Igbo man for that matter, irrespective of his religious belief.

Politics / Britain Owes Igbo Apology, Compensation For Biafra’s Destruction – Prof Anya by Loveurneighbour: 8:53am On Sep 17, 2022
Nigerian-born American lecturer, Uju Anya, has been in the eye of the storm since her tweet wishing the late Queen Elizabeth II ‘excruciating death’. The professor of Second Language Acquisition, Department of Modern Languages, Carnegie Mellon University, United States of America tells GODFREY GEORGE she spoke from a place of deep pain and is unapologetic about her post

Were you born in Nigeria?

First of all, I would love to say I am Ada Igbo (the first daughter of Igbo land). They cannot deny me (my heritage) because I am a lesbian. I am a child of Igbo land – I am of an Igbo father, and that is who I am. I don’t disown them; they cannot disown me. I am also a child of Trinidad because my mother is from Trinidad. So, I am African and Caribbean. I have lived in the United States for almost 40 years now; I have been here since 1986. I came here when I was 10 years old, and I am now 46. So, I also consider myself American. I am a very proud mother of two intelligent, loving and kind children biologically and I have one stepson. I am also a professor and academic researcher of language learning and multilingualism.

Your tweet wishing the late Queen Elizabeth II an ‘excruciating death’ sparked outrage from many quarters around the world. Are you regretful you made that post?

No, I am not, I have to be very honest with you. I am not. My tweet came from a place of deep pain and deep emotions. It was not something that I planned or calculated. It was spontaneous and was part of my emotional reaction to the impending death of my oppressor. It was spontaneous at the time. However, it is not something I regret or something that I will ever apologise for. I will rest, sleeping every night, knowing that I told the truth.

You mentioned that your ancestors suffered in the Biafran war, for which you hold the British responsible. Can you give some details of the kind of experience your people went through?

It was not just my ancestors, but also my immediate and living relatives. There were family members who died but there are also people who are still alive today who survived the genocide. This is because this is a very recent history and a recent memory. The war ended in 1970, and many people who witnessed it are still alive today. I was born in ’76 and I lived in the aftermath of the war. My family suffered and some died. It was traumatic. My parents are dead now, but I have siblings alive today who went through Biafra as children. They were under the age of 10. Our family also has a war baby. My mother was pregnant during the war and gave birth to my second oldest brother in Biafra. So, this is something that is extremely close to me, and it is in my personal existence and in addition to the overall history of my family and the broader history of the Igbo people.

What stories did your family members tell you about what they went through during the war?

I am not claiming that I went through Biafra because I wasn’t born yet then, but it didn’t end in 1970. There were a lot of issues that we had to deal with. My childhood was filled with the reconstruction of war-torn buildings and sites and projects. My father was involved in such projects of reconstructions. When you think of people who went through a holocaust, then, you can imagine how traumatic it must have been. When I speak of ‘holocaust’, I am not speaking of the Jewish holocaust where we lost over six million people. ‘Holocaust’ itself means a ‘mass slaughter’, and what happened to the Igbo during Biafra was a massacre, where more than three million people were killed. All my family dinner table conversations were always about who ran where, who took cover where, who was buried where, who was lost and where the displaced people went. When people survive genocide and mass displacement, there is always going to be that shadow or spectre above surrounding everyone. To date, we are still mourning and talking about it. Ask any Igbo person, they are going to tell you that they are still affected by the war. This is something that is now a part of our legacy as a people; it was something that was done to us. This is something that the British did to us in the very beginning of how they orchestrated the division that caused the separatist movements or the formation of an independent country and how they supported those who committed the genocide by giving them weapons and military vehicles, hiring mercenaries to come and kill the Igbo people and giving the Nigerian soldiers bombs and military supplies, such as planes and whatever they needed to slaughter civilians. The three million people that died were not armed combatants; these were village people. All my life I have heard stories of my mother running with two children under the age of 10 and being pregnant with a third from village to village after they bombed each village that they ran to.

One of the most horrific stories that I will never forget for as long as I live is one my mother told me. She said the airplanes that were sent to bomb the villages flew so low that one could see the pilot inside the cockpits, laughing as he sprayed people with machine guns. These were villagers who were desperately running for their lives. My mother told me that it was a memory that was a part of her life. That was the grotesque nature of this attack on our lands. Where did they get those planes? Where did they get those bombs? Did Nigeria manufacture bombs and guns at that time? The British gave it to them, because of their interest in the oil that was in Igbo land. I also heard stories from the Ada of our family. She is 14 years older than me. She has stories of her own children, lying in a hole. She would run and jump inside a bunker filled with dead bodies. She would lie underneath dead bodies inside the hole to hide from soldiers. Can you imagine that for a child under 10 years old? This is what my people suffered in this genocide! Some of the people are still looking for their loved ones or where they buried them to date. Go to Enugu; there are still buildings that were destroyed and have not been able to be rebuilt after the war.

Politics / I Enjoy Making People Rich, Boasts PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku by Loveurneighbour: 9:26pm On Sep 13, 2022
Atiku said he enjoys creating opportunities for others and making people rich.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has decried the worsening economic situation in Nigeria.

Atiku said he enjoys creating opportunities for others and making people rich.

The former Vice President, who spoke on Tuesday at the presidential economic agenda forum of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said “Nigeria is being dressed in borrowed robes".

Atiku said amid the country's dwindling economy, he will work with the private sector to revive the economy.

"They are important for any sector or economy to succeed,” he said. “I enjoy making people rich. I feel fulfiled when I make opportunities for others.”

Atiku lamented the rate of unemployment under the All Progressives Congress-led government, saying the number of "unemployed people (in Nigeria) is more than the population of Lagos state or the inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Kwara and Nasarawa states combined."

He decried that President Muhammadu Buhari's administration has "consistently run on a budget deficit since 2015" when it came to power.

According to him, the per capita income of citizens has drastically reduced from what it was in 2015.

He said, “The oil and gas sector, which is the economy’s lifeline has suffered a decline in 19 out of 30 quarters since 2014. For many economic sectors and ordinary citizens, it still feels like a recession.

“Under the present administration, our people are not working. More than 23 million people are out of jobs.

"In just five years between 2015 and 2020, the number of fully employed people dropped by 54 percent, from 68 million to 31 million people."

“What is even more worrisome is that the majority of the unemployed are young men and women, who lack not only the means to survive but any hope for the future.

"The number of unemployed youths increased by 9 million from 4 million in 2015 to 13 million in 2020.

“Nigeria is broke. Nigeria under the APC-led government has consistently run on budget deficits since it came to power in 2015," he sai

The former Vice President described the task of running Nigeria as a daunting challenge, adding that its "enormity should not be downplayed".

He, however, added that he has a "good grasp of the challenges bedevilling Nigeria".

"I know the root causes of our problems. I know that many of these problems are self-inflicted and can be reversed if we are determined. And we are determined," he added.

Politics / ADC Can’t Be Destroyed, Its Built By God – Nwosu by Loveurneighbour: 9:27pm On Sep 12, 2022
Mr Ralph Nwosu, African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Chairman says those trying to destroy the party through blackmail will not succeed because it is built by God.

He said this on Monday in Abuja while presenting certificates of return to the party’s Senatoral, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly candidates at its national secretariat.

He explained that some of those trying to bring down the party through blackmail and negative publicity, joined it on the last day of substitution of names, including its Vice-Presidential candidate.

“They came in less than two months ago, and they are the people shouting to the high heavens.

“We have built a brand, they can say we have stayed for 100 years, but we have built a brand that had become very enviable in the country,” Nwosu said.

He said though the party’s presidential primary election ended over three months ago, Mr Dumebi Kachikwu, its suspended 2023 presidential candidate was yet to have any campaign structure on ground, not even a bill board.

“From June 8 when we had our presidential primary, our suspended presidential candidate doesn’t have a campaign office, and there is no vehicle marked Dumebi Kachikwu for president in Nigeria.

Crime / Resist Demand For Bribe By Officers, Police Commissioner Tells Lagosians by Loveurneighbour: 7:47pm On Sep 11, 2022
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Abiodun Alabi, has advised the public to resist any demand for a bribe by any police personnel, irrespective of the officers’ rank, in the discharge of their duties.

Mr Alabi gave the advice on Saturday during his interactive session with crime reporters, warning that under no circumstance should any civilian offer money to police either to secure bail or facilitate the performance of an officer’s responsibility.
The police boss, who reiterated the age-long declaration that ‘bail is free’, reminded the public that anyone who offered a bribe to the police was as guilty as the police officer who received the bribe.

“Nigerians like to buy their freedom because they have committed offence. I wonder why a man would want to waste money bribing police to secure his freedom if he has not committed a crime,” he said.

The commissioner commended the commitment of officers and men of tactical units like the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism and others.

Mr Alabi, however, warned the bad elements in the various squads to desist from demanding and collecting money from members of the public who came to them with crime-related problems.

According to him, information had reached him of instances where huge sums were demanded by some operatives of the squads from members of the public who came to lodge one complaint or the other.

The CP said that on such occasions, he disciplined such erring officers, adding that he would henceforth deal ruthlessly with any officer or rank and file caught indulging in such anti-service activities.

The police on Sunday said 35 suspected armed robbers were arrested between June and August in Lagos State.

Politics / While Obi Was Selling Tomato Ketchup, Tinubu Already Paid His Dues – Fani-Kayode by Loveurneighbour: 6:49pm On Sep 11, 2022
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said while the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi was still a trader selling tomato ketchup and Bournvita in 1999, Bola Tinubu had already paid his dues, made his mark and was already running for the Governorship of Lagos State.

Fani-Kayode, in his article, “The Obidients, the Jagaban and the Icarus Syndrome,” said those who are comparing Obi with Tinubu are not serious.

“What I find the most irritating and objectionable about the Obidients is not their unadulterated aggression and abusive tendencies but rather their insistence on comparing their leader Peter Obi to Tinubu.

“I consider this to be deeply insulting. It is like comparing Don Perignon to ogogoro. It is like comparing Cristal champagne to what the people of the Niger Delta call ‘sepe’.

“It is like comparing the finest red wine from the vineyards of Bordeaux to what the Ghanaians call ‘akpeteshie’. It is like comparing chalk and cheese. It is like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Volkswagon Beetle, a Porsche Carrera to a three-wheeled scooter, a Ferrari to a broken down mini or a Gulf Stream jet to an Aba-made helicopter.

“When Obi was still in kindergarten Bola Ahmed Tinubu was already a very wealthy and successful business man who had worked and invested massively in the oil, gas, hi-tech and communications sector. At that time he was already a dollar millionaire and he invested much of his wealth into politics and the lives of others that were less fortunate than he was.

“When Obi was still in secondary school Bola Ahmed Tinubu was already an integral part of the massive political network and a key figure in the late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’adua’s formidable political family which was known as the People’s Front (PF) together with other notable and seasoned leaders like Babagana Kingibe and Atiku Abubakar.

“They were of course to later join the SDP as a group and they, more than any other, ensured the emergence of Chief MKO Abiola as the presidential flagbearer of that party at their Jos Convention in 1993.

“When Obi was still at University Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in the trenches, fighting military Governments, leading NADECO and risking his life and liberty for the restoration of MKO Abiola’s June 12th mandate, which had been annuled by the military, and for democracy.

“Many of today’s Obidients were not born at that time but they should go and ask their parents or grandparents about what happened and the role that Bola Tinubu played,” he said.
