Webmasters / Re: Social Networking Dilema Feat Drupal Vs Joomla by mambenanje(m): 11:43am On Aug 29, 2009
ok Dynamic Hyper text markup language
I hear you
good luck bro but I am personally building my own CMS that fits my needs. I am tired of consuming from the west. my personal view.
Mainly because those Joomla and co were not made with Africa and our environment as a factor of the production
Webmasters / Re: Social Networking Dilema Feat Drupal Vs Joomla by mambenanje(m): 11:32am On Aug 29, 2009
you dont need Joomla or Drupal. unless you dont want your solution to follow innovation for the next 20years.
if you wish to follow innovation as time unveils it, trust me you have only one tool
do it yourself. it needs more investment but pays off in future

Webmasters / Naijaborn.com Search 1.0 Release by mambenanje(m): 12:29pm On May 17, 2009
Naijaborn.com Team is pleased to announce the naijaborn.com search module.[if you wish to test it email info@naijaborn.com]
After working for two weeks on engineering, design, coding and testing we can say we have the naijaborn.com search release 1.0. As usual we built it from scratch with little or no third party packages wink.
Search Ranking
The search results are ranked as a factor of user activity on the naijaborn.com platform. if you register and stay out of it, you will surely appear at the bottom of all search results that match your details wink.

This is a happy moment here at the labs of Naijaborn mainly because we see alot of future in this module.

How is this important?
Case 1:
I just entered Lagos and I want to meet software developers in Lagos. I hit naijaborn.com and I search for "software developer lagos", I contact them and then I am able to network with like minded people in Lagos.
Same applies to going abroad, say you travel to London and you wish to meet nigerian entrepreneurs in London, all you do on naijaborn is search for "entrepreneur london".

Case 2:
I land on a website like aimtechng.com and I want to know the people behind the company. all I need to do is search naijaborn.com for the term "aimtechng.com" and I will automatically see naijaborn Ahmad Mukoshy in the result. This way its easy to know the team behind a web project or a company then get to contact them directly.

Future:
[mobile] The future of this search module could apply to mobile. Imagine something like IYAM.MOBI integrated to naijaborn.com and you can search for Nigerians world wide using simple SMS messages and get response via SMS. I can stand in Calabar and wish to contact a medical doctor. I will just take my phone send sms "medical doctor Calabar",   --- read on more at http://blog.naijaborn.com and if you wish to test the platform please send email to info@naijaborn.com
Webmasters / Re: Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 7:54pm On Apr 21, 2009
hey Prodgal
I like your comments and they are the usual challenges but if you dont try you will never know if its worth it or not.
so I pledge to develop the platform and I have the confidence that we will roll out something unique and usefull to nigerians and friends of naija wink
As for the adverts. the website starts adverts free, and we will invest into the running from our investments. But later when we develop our business model and start selling to the appropriate people, we might consider reusing the profits in health care and education in Naija. This Francis can better tell cos me am only technology technology or the Ninja as Kazey puts it.
We plan not to compete with existing systems but take users from what they already know to what they dont know and also follow trends and give them a reason to keep naijaborn open on one tab even if they have facebook twitter, gmail running.
somehow the broader platforms are not branded to be only nigerian, but you are sure that you go on naijaborn all you will be getting is nigerian info, gossip, vibes, ideas, new ventures, artist, actors, footballers et all and means to connect with them directly via PM or SMS. even if they are not on the web someone will just find it easy to talk about them.
Guess some extra doubts you had have been cleared
Webmasters / Re: Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 6:53pm On Apr 21, 2009
hey Prodgal wink let me answer some of the questions:
Who's the target market?
the market is Nigerians world wide and their friends who wish to dig more into Nigeria.

   Content creators (any kind of content -digital or otherwise ; referring to the creativity that will be showcased)?
The users will showcase their creations, pictures, graphics, music, videos, movies etc

   Or random users (any Tunde, Emeka and Ifeoma with an internet connection,  but what would be their contribution be)?
Random users will come in to comment, rate, share and connect with others professionally or personally depending on what the like

What currently existing sites/services out there is it similar to?
Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN, youtube, last.fm. Naijaborn will incorporate features from those sites

When you say platform, do you mean platform in the true sense of the word, where there will be an API available to  developers, or webservices that can be consumed, or 3rd party apps that can be installed?
yeah sure, when we say platform we mean something that will expose an API and other developer services like JSON access to the system with keys and security. So developers will be able to sprawl their own independent solutions out of naijaborn base. we wish to see others do stuff like mapping all the users on the map, or producing statistics of the percentage of Yorubas in Lagos without the naijaborn core team knowing their codes

Hope it answers what we DREAMING for naijaborn.
Webmasters / Re: Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 4:03pm On Apr 17, 2009
hey Seun
the concept is somewhat too simple than expected. and I remember not understanding what twitter was all about.
Well Francis will explain cos I don't know how to put it right. He will drop in a post pretty soon.
Webmasters / Re: Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 6:37pm On Apr 16, 2009
Ooh yeah Seun you right. here goes the explanation:

naijaborn.com is a solution for Nigerians globally and we working on
creating a unique platform that connects them globally at the same time we strive to  build
a huge database of Nigerian professionals globally.

So if you are ready to test hit info@naijaborn.com
Webmasters / Re: Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 3:08pm On Apr 16, 2009
hey where are all the webmasters wink
I have had only two people interested in experiencing the naijaborn web experience from nairaland the others are from facebook and email. I am expecting more though. it will take us maybe one month or two to finally  launch the public beta platform though its already fully functional wink. this we achieved because we are using SCRUM and AGILE approach
Webmasters / Naijaborn.com Private Beta Testers Needed :d by mambenanje(m): 4:49pm On Apr 13, 2009
hey

After working a few weeks on the first SCRUM sprint of naijaborn (basic version), we have launched a private beta and if you wish to get a first look and feel of the site, please send an email to info@naijaborn.com and our team will send you a link to access the private beta.

Its a work in progress but you sure will like it wink
Webmasters / Re: 100 Best Developers In Nigeria? Says Who? by mambenanje(m): 11:30am On Mar 12, 2009
@kazy, nitation, dammy
I know one rule DONT REINVENT THE WHEEL. if most of the problems I have to solve have been solved for me will you blame me for using other people's works and solving them ??

Well the list cannot be considered good or bad, atleast the list is driving traffic to his website, calling concern, giving the poster more money and attention. Also the list is a good start for other people to comment and come up with a better list which he is doing well.
I prefer the list being up to nothing at all. But I guess some people here will prefer the list never surfacing which is one thing killing Africa
Webmasters / Re: Get A Website For Just 3k,5k,10k,20k Or More by mambenanje(m): 10:22pm On Feb 22, 2009
@nitation
synthasite is an online web building software by a south african young entrepreneur hosted at www dot synthasite dot com
Suen has removed urls from the forums so I cant write the url but just googel synthasite or its other rivals like weebly, jimbdo
and you will get to know more. you pay 14usd for domain every hear after building the whole site. hey even google offers google pages and microsoft small business sites too
soo these things are all over the web (cloud computing)
Webmasters / Re: Get A Website For Just 3k,5k,10k,20k Or More by mambenanje(m): 8:03pm On Feb 19, 2009
man you guys should not criticise that guy because I dont think you are better. what if the guy is using the south african synthasite dot com where you do everything online and pay only 14usd(will he not make profit) and he has terms of service for that offer which will make the clients recurring. if he gets 20clients I bet you he will live a better life than stealing
watch out because business in technology changes at the speed of light

Webmasters / Re: CSS Vs Tables by mambenanje(m): 10:59am On Feb 15, 2009
how can you guys say css vs tables
you cant compare css vs tables, they are all complementary. ooh ok maybe you guys mean "css vs tables in layout",
but I must say that tables are styled with CSS and if you use css to style your table layout there is nothign bad with that because you wont have to edit every single page to change the styles.
In the good old days of the web this is how I was doing pages

page1.html

<table>
<tr>
<td bg-color='red'><font color='white'>page heading</font></td>
</tr>
</table>

the code above if you duplicate into many pages will be very difficult to update, if the client decides that the red bg be removed, you do that on every page. this is the table and design that is discouraged
but if someone does this

<!-- css included in external file with the styles -->
<link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='page.css' />

<table>
<tr>
<td style='page_td_style'>page hading</td>
</tr>
</table>

As long as duplicates of this page can be edited in a single fle 'page.css' there is nothing bad with using such tables in your layout. He who thinks is bad should explain it to me. Tables are bad for layout design because the are difficult to update but if you use css to style your tables, updating is not a problem anymore.
Some can say your site will not appear well on smart phones and mobile phones, but even sites done with DIV tags still need special interfaces for mobiles and smart phones
I am waiting for your reasons for saying no tables in layout
thanks
Webmasters / Re: How To Find Babes / Men On Nairalist by mambenanje(m): 10:34pm On Feb 11, 2009
@dhtml
I think its a nice exercise and could be lucrative if nairalist gets alot of dating announcements.
Your work is even easier now that Seun has activated the nairalist rss feeds. but you could still do your CURL thing and get all the data analyse and display but what is the ROI
have fun and good luck
Webmasters / Re: Web Review by mambenanje(m): 2:35pm On Feb 08, 2009
@abhost,
because he is always working in a team where he is the graphics and user interface expert. Soo he puts his work for review on here complete (his design and interface is done but not the whole site), and maybe the web developer in his team has to put up the complete site later on.
Webmasters / Re: Web Review by mambenanje(m): 12:21pm On Feb 08, 2009
looks more of flash than DHTML, need to do alot of css tricks to make it light though wink
the other comments you had them by chat wink

Webmasters / Re: What Is A Website? by mambenanje(m): 8:25pm On Dec 09, 2008
@dayo*
a website is computerized brochure that can be accessed from any where in the world using a computer or any internet enabled device wink
maybe u might have to also define internet if its for a lay man
Webmasters / Re: What Is A Website? by mambenanje(m): 8:59am On Nov 27, 2008
well I think a website is some sort of a universally accessible book about anything. So if you have anything to show the world build a website for it adn the world will be able to see it as long as they have the internet.
key words: UNIVERSALLY, ACCESSIBLE, BOOK
Webmasters / Re: The Truth About The Free Website by mambenanje(m): 10:02pm On Nov 26, 2008
@yawa
this is a long debate but its about what you decide and the market your serving so guys should not give generalised claims about how to sell your products or build your sites. If I have a software platform that automates my sites building and I just have to adjust one or two things why should I not sell cheap ??
and you said 50 sites at 1000USD and 100 sites at 500usd and you tell me I should make a choice. men do you think about the hosting fees every year from the clients ??
cheesy
in the long run my 100sites will feed my family every year more than you can get from the 50 sites. Think about it cheesy
extensive production is part of the industrial revolution.
Webmasters / Re: The Truth About The Free Website by mambenanje(m): 8:54pm On Nov 26, 2008
@yawa, poster
men I think most excited guys who start using dreamweaver will always want to do a tryout and the client who wants his professional site to be a play ground can go on and work with them

@dayotee
I disagree with you on some points you raised, about depending on 5 paying clients than 100 non paying clients. If you are in the computer and software business then you will understand why Windows is a more profitable business than Macintosh and all the other operating systems.
and you might as well understand why Google has about 150 billion USD in the bank from a free website. There are alot of roads that take you to a successfull business but the best has been extensive marketing. I believe Windows XP and a Dell laptop sell at 600usd then windows xp is 100usd in it cheesy.
How can you tell me such a big operating system with thousands of developers sells at 100usd about 15 thousand naira.
Webmasters / Re: Nairahost really not a hosting to go with ! by mambenanje(m): 6:31pm On Sep 17, 2008
well lets hope the money issue will be resolved but atleast police no go carry you go @smartsoft and guys dont hate on nairahost, technology fails so they are not an exception.
Webmasters / Re: Active Records VS Sql What Do You Think ?? by mambenanje(m): 8:24pm On Sep 11, 2008
Seun me and you again on this topic cheesy
well I wonder why sql will be better for data management. Its just like saying procedural programming is better that Object oriented programming.
Active Records just wraps the database into an object, something computer programmers understand better. and now we might keep the database admin at the level of designing and maintaining the database tables and relations while developers handle everything in codes and they dont need to ask any sql from the database admin.
with traditional sql you always need the DBA in big projects to give you the sql for everything or create you stored procedures to call.
Infact Seun on this one I declare myself right cheesy
Webmasters / Re: Site Review by mambenanje(m): 10:56am On Jul 22, 2008
hey yawa
sure you girls like talking wink
well the poster said its not complete and thats says it all, he or she is asking what we think about the design ", just the interface, " .
to me I think its good but its more like a flash multimedia website, good layout and good pictures but the menu bar is hidden on a 1200x800px resolution. which means I scroll before seeing the menu. And I was even thinking the pictures at the top were clickable. well thats all I observed
Webmasters / Re: Afrikeo.com | Search African News And Blogs - What Do You Think About It ? by mambenanje(m): 10:44am On Jul 22, 2008
hey zuby
nice question though its out of the current context but I will answer by example [Seun I like examples] wink
how does google manage all these solutions www.google.com/labs or why do they build soo many solutions ?
Well I work with people and I am co founder or founder on most of the products I build, for Afrikeo i am just the CTO and a co founder, the founder is another guy. So i worry less about the product after the codes have been written or after updates and maintenance is done.
hope you get it now. I talked about this on my blog because many people ask me same question check it out here

Webmasters / Re: Small Challenge On Html And Css by mambenanje(m): 6:49pm On Jul 09, 2008

I remember how frustrated i was trying to build my site and keep getting power outage and at a point i decided i was done with the power thing. i picked up my plane sheets which i still have with me got down to biz, writing building my site layout on papers using DIVs and CSS after two days of consistent work, i was done with my site and i did not border again with the power thing because all i do whenever they decided to flash the light was to type in my code and save it quickly. I was doing that with the off and on of this power guys until i was done with it. Just a little adjustment did i do and my site was up and slick.
I am used to building my site purely from code view and that gives my the power to place thing apropriately on each page. I am not familiar with Dreamweaver, because the first time i used it it crashed my system, so i stopped using it

Finaly I find someone who is realy powerfull and I like that.
Kudos cdeveloper
