Additionally , a player like Osimhen need a very intelligent and creative players around him to excel otherwise he will be very limited to pressing and hoping for a defenders slip up. Osimhen is highly limited in technical abilities
I think Boniface was also missed guy is intelligent and skilfull. Ndidi too for his new found capabilities going forward.

Those 10 goals could have been saved for the tournament proper
Well, no one can deny that he helped his team even though he scored once.

In terms of goals it's disappointing but hardluck played its part.

Victor will be back💪

Need we be surprised with the team's performance yesterday? A team with no single playmaker in midfield. A maestro.

Like Ekong is to the backline and Victor to the attack.

What about the middle which is arguably the most important of the three?

JP, though he tried but much was left to be desired in his midfield selections. This is where goofed big time.. And it came back to haunt the team.

In fact, the players individual brilliance played a larger part in the team's progress.

That game was demanding of a midfield battle, likewise the South Africa game, which Iwobi shied away from and the coach was too slow to react to.

Again, he tried, but a good coach? Nowhere near.

I remember coming on here before the tournament and after the first game and said Iwobi wasn't good enough. I said if the Eagles are relying on him to be their creative hub then this team isn't serious.
I wonder if many of you guys here watch football or just blinded by sentiments.
Iwobi has been a senior professional for over a decade and no one knows what position or kind of player he is.
I proposed moving him to the left wing in the future to compete with Simon or whoever there cause Iwobi is nowhere near a creative player.
Funny enough I don't think he was bad in this tournament and I think the criticism is way overblown.
He's just Iwobi, average and just like the others in the team technically proficient when up against any decent side
You're not alone on this observation bro

I think it showed somehow because they kept loosing the ball.

However, the moment we scored first, I expected the coach to remove Chucks and Iwobi and bring Yusuf and Simon to see how we can stabilize the team.

We could bring in Onyedika for Zaidu to change formation to 4-3-3 when attacking, 4-5-1 when defending.

This formation could had neutralized the wings and stabilized the midfield. Then use counterattack to finish then as they get frustrated while searching for equalizer.
Spot On... We needed more bodies in midfield to support Iwobi and Onyeka. That's why CIV was all over our defense... I knew we'd lose that game.

The coach's game plan limited Iwobi. Peseiro's plan was to loop the ball from the defense to attack and the midfield to try recover the ball when it didn't get through, that might be the reason Onyeka had a more advanced role: to recover the ball and make forward drives, since he has more pace and is also better defensively. Iwobi's role wasn't as loud, that's why many didn't notice.
So what was Iwobi's role the then?

I'm sure JP and the entire team would be glad if Iwobi at least tried to engage himself in the midfield. He was just shying away from duels. How often do you even see Iwobi do that. The guy is just overrated. Prime Iwobi was far better

Our defense was helpless all game. Midfield was zero. Osimhen was purely starved. No presence and stability in midfield. Iwobi was just like a shadow. I doubt this would have happened if Alhassan and Chuks were brought in earlier.

Our midfield needs to be worked on big time. We lost this game because we couldn’t hold the ball.
This is what you get when you go to a tournament with only one supposedly "creative" midfielder.

Ndidi was missed. Onyeka covered good defensively and was fantastic with his forward drives, but his passing range is a let down. He is also not a genuine controller.
Iwobi that has a better "passing range" what did he do? Is he not supposed to compliment Onyeka's inabilities as the "main man" in midfield?

Onyeka did the things he was expected to do and he did very well all through the competition... Who even gave him a chance?

It looks like Bringing on Moses Simon didn't do anything to stop Adingra. I thought it would. But taking off Chukwueze did nothing. Moses Simon came on and Adingra kept having joy against Aina
I wonder where Simon was all the time Aina's position was being attacked. He was nowhere to be found and it's very strange because his activities helping the flanks is what made the coach sub him in.

This is another factor that caused us the match.

Zaidu na zombie. He was the player who was suppose to mark kessie

That guy na zero
You can't blame him the pressure was too much on the defense... And error would eventually occur. Its not easy defending and depending without a little bit of break And intervention by your midfielders

We can't keep defending. We need to do more attacking
Each time we get the ball instead of keeping it and reduce the pressure we send it back to them all in the name of counter.

When you're leading you try and hold possession for a little while to force fouls from your opponent and also reduce the pace of the game to frustrate them (Mikel comes to mind)
You throw the counters when they least expect.

This was mainly the job of our midfielders most especially Iwobi but guy is just not it.

Low pace
Zero defending
Zero grit
Not good in set piece taking
Zero game reading ability

All these from a midfielder😣

(On the team)
You defend hard, get the ball and carelessly send it back to your opponent all in the name of finding Osimhen who isn't even getting decent passes.

Onyeka is the true definition of all-action midfielder.
He's the only one in that midfield. Forget Iwobi. They kept having distant shots in through him which eventually led to the corner they used to equalize.

One might think why chukweze? But I understand the reason behind this.

JP probably observed his deadly forward passes and less selfish in the last match.

Though I hope he's drilled to join the defense. He showed sighs in our last game

Iwobi is lazy. His own is laziness nothing else. Wetin be "him style no suit African football" for how many years now playing in African soil?

He's playing in England the last time I checked so what's his problem. Which English/white midfielder is he even emulating by jugging all around the pitch while opponents navigate past him with so much ease.

Aribo is still better. Iwobi is simply a minus one when we're defending. Very terrible for a midfielder.
