Politics / PHOTOS: Gov. Amosun Commissions MITROS Residence And Gardens by metroblogger: 8:38pm On May 29, 2017
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, marked the 2017 Democracy Day by taking representatives of Civil society organisations, the media and other interest groups in Ogun State, on a tour of ongoing road projects and overhead bridges in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Addressing journalists during the tour, Governor Amosun expressed delight with the ongoing construction of 110km Ilara/Ijoun/Eggua/Oja-Odan/Ilase road in Ogun West Senatorial district.

The Governor said the road, which cuts across four local government areas, is one of his favorite projects because the zone had been neglected for so long with little or no development before his administration came on board.

Governor Amosun who also visited other ongoing projects including the 29Km Ofada/Mowe/Ibafo/Magboro as well as the 32km Ijoko/Alagbole/Agbado/Akute roads, which has five overhead bridges at different levels of completion in Ogun Central Senatorial district, disclosed that the roads before now were impassable but are presently in better shapes while nearing completion.

The Governor also inspected the Sagamu road; Mobalufon/Oba-Erinwole road in Ijebu-Ode and the Ilishan/Ago-Iwoye road, which has three ongoing overhead bridges, all in the Ogun East Senatorial district of the state.

To wrap up the day, the Governor also commissioned the newly-built MITROS Gardens and Residences in Abeokuta.

Governor Amosun, who promised that his administration would work till the last day in office, assured that he will not rest on his oars while adding that all ongoing projects will be completed and delivered.

Governor Amosun therefore called on the people of the state, especially residents of border towns, to obey the residency rule of taxation by ensuring that their taxes are paid to Ogun State, where they reside.

Business / 5 Lucrative Business Opportunities In Abuja by metroblogger: 12:12pm On May 23, 2017
Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, is one of the fastest growing cities in the world and one of the wealthiest cities in Africa; this makes it one of the best places to do business. Aside being one of the wealthiest and fastest growing cities, it’s also one of the safest and most conducive cities for business. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 lucrative business opportunities for you to take advantage of when in Abuja.

Interior Decoration

Interior Decoration is one of the trending business in Abuja mainly because there is a large number of existing hotels, residential buildings, offices and restaurants (and more to be developed) that are ever ready to hire interior decorators to designs their buildings to make it look classy.

Data and Statistical Service

Due to the large number of ministries and international organizations in Abuja, there are great business opportunities for those who offer or can offer data and statistical services such as conducting researches, surveys and interviews etc.

Security Installations and Services

It’s safe to say that aside being the capital city of Nigeria, Abuja can also be referred to as the political capital of the nation. This mean there are a lot of politicians who reside there and are willing to spend a lot of money on security services and installations. In addition, security is also one of threats Abuja residents face and citizens will be willing to pay well for good security services and installations to help protect their lives and properties.

Private Tutors

Mainly because Abuja is largely made up of working class, politicians, business people and expatriates, there is an existing and reasonably significant market for this business. As a private tutor, you can work full-time or part-time. A lot of parents in the city are willing to pay a substantial amount of money to private tutors to come to their homes to teach their children after school so that they can get better at certain subjects and keep them busy while they’re at work.

Real Estate

This list can hardly be complete without real estate. Real estate is one of the best and safest investments in the country, and with the growing population of Abuja (the population grew by 139.7% between 2000 and 2010) you cannot go wrong with real estate investments. A lot of people make good money in Abuja by building houses and offering them up for rent mainly because rent in Abuja is very expensive compared to most cities in Nigeria. Land prices have also always been on the rise in Abuja mainly because more development is expected to reach many parts of the city. If you don’t have enough money to invest in capital for real estate development, you can make money becoming a real estate agent.

Health / 7 Warning Side Effects Of Sitting All Day by metroblogger: 12:21pm On May 18, 2017
You arrived at work as early as you can, said hi and hello to one or two people and went straight to your seat. As if your buttock is glued to the seat, you did not stand up until it is close of work. Even for you to go to the toilet is wahala. If this is you, read on to know the side effects of sitting all day.

Stiff neck and shoulders

When you start turning and moving your neck like an Agama Lizard, your neck is telling you that you should take a break. This is same with your shoulders.

Diabetes Risk

According to research, people who sit for too long are more vulnerable to diabetes. Prolong sitting increasing your insulin resistance. If this happens, you may open the floodgate to diabetes.

Hip problems

Marathon sitting can make the hips become tight and limited in range of motion because they are rarely extended.

It increases your cancer risk

Quite surprising but this is what several types of research reveal. For example, a German meta-analysis concluded that people who sat for the longest period each day were 24 percent more likely to develop colon cancer than those who took breaks.

Ineffective brain function

When you sit at your desk for the whole day performing different tasks, you will become saturated and tired. As a result, your brain will be unable to function properly. At this point, you will either be forced to take a break or just sit doing nothing. This is because your brain performance has declined.

Weak Bones

Walking, running, and exercising strengthens the bones and vice versa.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body, usually in the leg. Politics / FG To Deploy Ambassadors In July by metroblogger: 10:34am On May 16, 2017
Nigerian ambassador-designates would be posted to the country’s various missions abroad by July, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in New York that the ministry had started receiving “agreemo”.

‘Agreemo’ is a memorandum from one country to another agreeing to the appointment of an ambassador or envoy.

“There are three groups of ambassadors. The first group, to which professor (Tijjani) Bande belongs, has been announced and professor Bande has resumed here in New York.

“Ambassador Audu Kadiri in Geneva has also resumed. We expect that Ambassador Bankole Adeoye going to Addis Ababa should resume in the next couple of days. That’s the very first group.

“The second group of ambassadors, which was drawn largely from the career category, has also been deployed.

“We’ve started to receive ‘agreemo’, which consent of the receiving states from some of them. And we expect that in the next couple of weeks, they should also assume duties.

“What we’re waiting for is the deployment of the non-career; that has not been concluded; it’s ongoing. We expect that should be completed also in the next couple of weeks.

“So that, minus or plus, in the next two months, most of our ambassadors should have assumed (duty) in their various posts abroad.”

The permanent secretary said the financial situation of the missions had been resolved, adding that more funds from the government was being disbursed.

“The state of the Nigerian missions abroad has been a major concern to government, particularly in the area of funding.

“But I can announce that the situation is poised to improve because additional funding has been provided by government and are currently being disbursed.

“We believe that upon receipt of those funds, they would be able to at least come out of the woods.

“But we need to look into a more sustainable manner of funding Nigerian missions so that they would not go back into the era of huge indebtedness from which they are now trying to come out at this

NAN recalls that the Federal Government recalled all the ambassadors appointed by the previous administration in 2015 and now the country’s foreign missions are run by Chargé d’Affaires or Counsel-Generals. (NAN)
