Hi all please what is your advise as per the link below for proof of funds

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/proof-funds.html

For someone who came to Canada with 3 years work permit and now eligible to apply for PR after 1 year of work .
If applying under CEC or FSW, must the person show proof of funds or not ?

You need POF for FSW but not CEC

I don’t know if I’m late with this information but it might help someone, if I knew earlier I wouldn’t have made some silly mistakes or missed my cousin’s wedding. So if you want to RENEW your American visa, the Dropbox option is still very much available. I thought I needed an appointment date and with my Naija mentality I just assumed e go tey. Only for me to try 2 weeks ago and realized I could do drop box. Anyway it took just 1 week for the visa to be issued.

Please note that I put RENEW in caps, if it’s a first time application you need an appointment date.
I did mine in Calgary incase anyone is wondering.

Thanks for reading lol wink

Hello
Thank you for this information. Can a visitor in Canada use this option as well? Pls I would appreciate if you can also add the steps involved with doing Dropbox application. Thank you

Hello everyone,

I know this is the wrong thread but I'm in an urgent need now.

Please I need someone that sells Canadian dollars. I am unable to pay my tuition fees from Nigeria because of scarcity of dollar caused by COVID-19.

Please I need a recommendation of a trusted person who can sell CAD to me.

Thanks.

Are you in the GTA? Panfol Investment in Etobicoke is a registered company that deals with stuff like this. You can receive and send money to Nigeria. Lemonade Finance app also launched a new feature that enables you to receive money from Nigeria. Buying dollars from an anonymous platform is risky in my opinion.

Getting married in Canada cannot get you PR you would still go through normal express entry procedure even if he his a Canadian citizen

Pls this is not true. Express entry is different from the spousal visa. It’s a long process and can take a year or more but if granted, the spouse will get PR. The person filling must be a PR or Canadian citizen though.

As in its so ridiculous. It's even better now. During the pandemic it was pegged at 300 to 400 days+ and that's obviously because it was put on hold. I guess they're working through the backlog of applicants.

Thanks for your help and clarification. I appreciate it.

You’re welcome

Thank you for the response and clarification and sorry to hear your sister wasn't allowed entry.

That's right, they already lifted the border restrictions.

Does this mean we have to wait for the usual 200+ days plus to process the visit visa? I was hoping there was a way to fast track the application for immediate families who currently don't have a visa to travel.

Oh I understand your point now. I don’t think there’s any way you can fast track (I researched online). 200+ plus days is so outrageous sha. I didn’t even know it is taking that long now. This pandemic messed so many things up.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking to apply for my spouse to visit Canada leveraging the Covid19 reuniting families plan.

Is there anyone here who got their family to enter Canada recently using same process?

Note: We've gone through the below process link but still have some grey areas we'd like to clarify. (E.g., the written authorization vs travel exemptions)

Thanks

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/immediate-family.html

I applied for my sister in the US some months ago and IRCC granted her the visa but didn’t approve her entry into Canada. Till today I don’t understand what happened. Meanwhile, why do you still need the authorization? If I’m not mistaken, Canada has already opened its borders . This measure was put in place months ago because our borders were not open to everyone and they wanted close families of PRs and citizens to be able to see their families. You don’t need this again.

I’m not in Regina but I think you should be reaching out to Children services in your municipality

Oh I thought you were a resident already. Pls don’t reach out to them yet . There are some research you can still do while you wait; research cities/municipalities that give daycare subsidy to non-PRs. Start with the city of your potential school ;you can research other cities too but just make it’s not far to your school. Make preparation to reside in the city that gives the daycare subsidy benefit. When the time comes, you have to be a resident of the said city to be eligible for the daycare subsidy benefit because they will ask for proof when you apply to Children Services.

Hi everyone.

I'm actually new on this thread and I'm hoping I could be advised properly.

I got my ppr recently all thanks to God Almighty and Carelton University Ottawa was the school i used for my study permit application for winter 2022. I also applied to Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) which was my 1st choice but admission didn't come on time and after submitting my study permit application I received Admission from MUN.
I intend to travel in December but I'm confused.  I really don't know if to stick to carelton University or change my dli when I get to Canada. I can't make a decision based on the course because both courses are related to my field. I will like to make a decision based on what province will favour me more interms of job opportunities, PR, future children etc. I appreciate what ever advice you can provide thanks

For opportunities, I prefer Ottawa. If you plan well, you will definitely get PR irrespective of the province.

Please who has experience or knows someone who brought an infant with them while studying in Canada?
What was it like generally?

Were you or the person able to school and work part time alongside having to care for the infant?

Also what was average fee for daycare or babysitter for the infant?

I didn’t come with an infant but I was pregnant when I came to school in Canada and eventually had my baby while still in school. I took 2 weeks break at some point and resumed 4 weeks after delivery. My husband was able to secure his work permit shortly before I delivered and my mum was able to secure a visiting visa . I was not able to work for obvious reasons and it was very tough. My mum eventually left after 4 months and luckily for me I was able to secure daycare subsidy even as an international student (I was in Toronto then but not all municipalities give this benefit to non-PRs and non-citizens). I never paid a dime throughout my entire program. If you have help, it’s possible; it’s not easy but it’s possible. But if you are coming alone, I would not advice it specifically because you have stated that you want to work. If you can receive stipend from Nigeria that will be sufficient for you then it’s ok. You also won’t be able to get child benefit until after 18 months. Daycare does not operate 24 hours and they don’t work weekends. I don’t really see how you will be able to manage it. Daycare fees depends on your region and the age of the child, Ontario is one of the highest-some parents pay as much as $1600 per month. Provinces like Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan are affordable, maybe in the 400-700s range. I remember vividly my daughter’s daycare (this was five years ago though)was charging City of Toronto $65 per day.

Canny people especially Calgary people, pls help.

Information online says secondary school (year 7) starts at age 12. Does this mean a child who isn't 12 by August of a particular school year will not be able to start year 7? I suspect this is the case but just curious about the experience of those who have landed. Is the standard the same regardless of public, private or religious school? I know kids can't start kindergarten until they are 5 (at least in Calgary) just curious if the age regime is also strict for secondary school.

Also pls does anyone have information or experience of special schools for gifted kids or kids with exceptional talent? From what I've read looks like the child has to have spent at least a term/year in a Canadian school to be assessed.

Thanks.

What do you think about the upcoming election? Incase JT doesn't win this his gamble, are the conservatives immigration friendly?

If you check the commitments for all the parties on their various websites , they all have plan for immigration. The truth is Canada doesn’t even have a choice, our economy needs immigration. The only person that was against immigration and was vocal about it is the leader of PPC and he lost his only seat in the parliament during the last election. I’m not sure he’s even contesting again because I don’t see him when I watch the news. Generally, people (including me) also believe the Conservatives don’t like immigration but the truth is that they were the ones that started express entry in 2015, the Liberals just decided to work on it better by reducing CRS, thereby making more people eligible. I think Trudeau will win again sha. I’m just hoping for the best

Many graduates coming from Nigeria usually underestimate the amount of work it takes to do graduate school in developed countries like Canada and the US. Contrary to what most people think, graduate school in these countries is actually very difficult. Usually there is a lot of assignments and homeworks, and this is not something the Nigerian student is used to. Besides, most of the concepts are not discussed at a high-level, but usually a more detailed often difficult low-level filled with maths (for STEM) or lots of readings (for Management). This can be a very big problem for the Nigerian student who isn't used to this method of study. But the good news is that if you do not give up, you will succeed. It may appear difficult, but if you put in the required effort, ask for help from your professors or from fellow students, you will eventually understand. My advice to you is to dig deep within you and find that extra effort to succeed. Don't give up. Having a kid is not an excuse. There have been many people like you who made it eventually through graduate school. You just need to tell yourself that you can do it.

same here... but I once heard that 2.2 is acceptable for Masters in some parts of Canada, but I couldn't figure out which provinces or so can accept 2nd class lower division for MSc seekers. Pls does anyone have ideas on this possibility?

It depends on the program you are interested in. University of Alberta accepts 2:2 for their MPH programs but you must have had mostly Bs in your last semester. You have to check the requirements of the programs you are interested in.

Hi all,
Quick question please. How do you get your study permit amended?

So I came in about a month ago through Vancouver on a student visa and was issued a Study permit at the border. I knew, from reading this thread, that they were supposed to write on my study permit that I am entitled to work on and off campus.

But the guy attending to us that day was cranky and impatient. There was an Indian lady ahead of me who tried to insist that he should write it on her permit and he rudely asked her if she was here to study or here to work. He did not amend her permit.

Me I came with my husband and was busy praying quietly that they should give him work permit, so I did not even have the liver to ask for any amendment immediately they gave us.

Now, I have tried to get a SIN number and they are refusing to give me until I amend my study permit to show that I can work for 20 hrs.

Has anyone been able to amend their study permit? What’s the procedure please.

Nah wah for the CBSA officer oo. I think I had the exact issue when I came as a student. I was able to work with my study permit. The job was for a brief period though. If your potential employer has an issue with the clause on your study permit, you can contact IRCC.

Please i just started processing my transcript, i already have my international passport, pls reccommend any school in ontario for me where i can do my masters thats relatively cheap , i am a graduate of civil Engineering , 2.2 Bsc , and also possibly if there is any group i can join , whatsapp or telegram so i can follow up...Thanks

I’m not sure about cheap but if you have mostly Bs in your last semester, you may get admission for a Masters program in some schools regardless of if you graduated with 2.2. You have to google schools in areas of interest and check their eligibility requirements.

Hello guys,

I need some advice on what to do.

I came back to Nigeria last year, December, to really spend time with family and see my fiancé as well. Fast forward this year, my fiancé and I did our traditional marriage and shortly after she left for US for a 4-month summer work program. I will soon be travelling back to Canada ( I'm a PR) and I really need my fiancé/wife ( I don't think Canada recognizes a couple that just did traditional marriage as husband and wife) to join me in Canada.

I am really looking for legal options I can explore for her to come over to Canada from US, before the expiration of her work permit visa. I don't know if a visitors' visa is a sure-fire way to bring her over or nah. I'm not too sure again, how to make this happen, like, make a strong case why I need my wife/fiancé here with me in Canada or if the application for a visitors' visa will even succeed. I don't want to start an application that will lead to rejection.

Thanks.
P.S. I'm also aware of the Canada-US border restrictions. She'd definitely be coming over when those restrictions are relaxed in the coming months, hopefully!

This is what my friend did…. She got a visitors visa, came to Canada, her hubby applied for her PR , at that point she was able to apply for a open work permit. She applied for that and it was approved and she was able to use that to work and get OHIP. One year after her PR was approved. They did court wedding in Nigeria before she came here. You and your fiancé can do a court wedding here when she’s able to travel to Canada.

Hello All,
Anyone had a passport appointment with the Nigerian Embassy Ottawa yet? How do you travel to Ottawa? Same day or previous day?Road/train? How does it work when one gets there? Do you have to lodge in a hotel? I have an appoinment on Saturday, is this unusual?

In my case, we travelled the day before and lodged in a hotel. We went for our appointment the following morning and from there we went back to Toronto. We took the bus but you can go by air too.

Good day
Am a 200level physiology student and I would like to go and study nursing in Canada and I don't know how to go about it I need ur advice.
Can I get a scholarship or a cheaper school there?

The average tuition for international students in RPN programs in my province is 40k for the whole program. BSN may be higher. Personally, I believe there’s hardly anything that is impossible. Sometimes we just don’t have access to the right resources. I don’t have any information about scholarships but if you can put in the work and research, you may get some insight. There’s also the option of after degree nursing program but you have to finish your current degree to qualify. I know a Nigerian lady that got an offer in a similar program in Trent University (she studied Microbiology in a Nigerian Uni before moving to Canada). Again, these programs are not cheap, I have never come across an affordable Nursing program.

Are you sure one can file taxes on an actual financial year?. I thought it is on a proceeding year basis. I tried to file my taxes this year but I was told by the member of the tax clinic that I can't file for now since I did not have a physical presence in Canada last year(2020) and was advised to wait till next year (2022) to file for the current (2021)calender year record.

Hello..that was not what I meant, sorry I was not clear enough about it. If you’re filing tax this year, you will be filing for the year 2020 and you will be filing for this year in 2022. I’m not a tax professional but i have seen so many immigrants file taxes for the period they were not in Canada, I did it too as a new immigrant. There are benefits you will apply for that your NOA will be needed because that’s the only way the amount you are eligible for can be calculated.

Hi everyone,
Please, are those that landed this year supposed to file taxes?

Pls file if you can. It doesn’t matter if you landed this year, all the benefits you are eligible for (like GST, OTB-if you are in Ontario, Canada child benefit etc) will be calculated based on your most recent NOA. If you have kids and need daycare subsidy, the caseworker will ask for your NOA. Personally, I think it will make your life easier. I don’t think doing it yourself will be ideal since it’s your first time but you can employ the services of an accountant or tax professional. I have heard of free tax clinics for PRs and Citizens (you have to find out about this as I don’t have enough information about it).
