No doubt, Nigeria doesn't have a dress code, but I always advice young men not to do things or appear in a manner that will make them easy target for rouges who are dressed in military and paramilitary uniforms.

I stay in kano and this is my recent encounter with the police in Sanya olu area of sabon gari kano state

I am a chemistry teacher in one secondary school in kano, so Friday after work, I entered Sabin gari just to cool off the stress and catch cruise.. I usually go to that area to fucck olosho and buy my weed, sometimes to play bet and drink too

Immediately I entered Sanya olu, I was inside keke self when the police van in the middle of the street ask us to come, they ask me to pay the keke man and i paid him and he left....
The oga pata pata of them all, ask me what am doing here I told him I want to watch a match and play bet....he said let him see my phone, I handed it over go him, he said who did I call last, I told him no body, he said we are the people that used to come and steel here, I told him am a teacher and here are the pictures of my students, immediately he snatched my phone away from me.
I begged them, close to 2 hours, they refused, they arrested any Hausa guy they see around that area, leaving the Igbos with dread locks, tattered jeans and dye hair free, to my imagination, they are afraid of these kind of guys, so they arrest the ones that dresses modest.
So after abt 2 hours begging they ask me to give something, I told him the last thing I have is #450, that I was having only #500, and I paid #50 for the keke guy, they refused and said I have to pay 5k..after close to 5pm I was still begging..I managed to beg them to handover my phone back, where I show them my pictures during my NYSC days and begged them, they collected the #450 and allow me to go. This is not my first encounter with the police, I had one too while i was in Onitsha, one in kano too 2017

It all began last year when I was in service, I called my father informing him of going for post graduate studies. He bought the idea and when I came back from service he gave me money to purchase the form and I did and proceeded with the application.
Due to covid 19 restrictions we wrote the entrance exam March this year. So I was offered part time post graduate admission
Bfor I was offered the admission I was working as a sch teacher and the pay was very low and during d holiday I had health issues and I was at home recuperating. During that period there was a misunderstanding between us and a family friend came to settle us, and right in front of the man, his wife and my mother, my father declared his decision to sponsor and fund my post graduate studies. He pledge to take money from his cooperative to fund it along with accommodation. I live a state away from the school. He is a pensioner receiving steady monthly pension of 200k monthly after serving in the military.
So the following month I proceeded with the screening and I started lectures immediately. He gave me 40k which I used for Dept registration, pg screening and collected my degree certificate.
The problem started early October when during the screening period I declined job offers that I applied for so as to focus on the early part of the admission.
The problem started early October when I went to discuss sch fees because exam was mid way approaching but to my dismay he tolde bluntly that he doesn't have hands in funding my Masters anymore, meaning he want to have a uturn. I was confused because he can't jus Allow me start something and abandon me Midway, leaving me hopeless, dejected and frustrated. I called our family friend to come and beg him and to also know how I offended him. He began to open up by saying he hasn't see any usefulness in my education. He narrated history of my education from secondary school, company training, few years of writing jamb, one yr polytechnic before I withdrew to university and how I studied a useless course coming out with lower grade. I asked if he didn't know all this before he agreed to sponsor but he couldn't answer so we begged him even kneeling down and he succumbed to the pressure and he promised to see what he would do.
The following day I met him to discuss about fees and accommodation, he didn't say much then on Sunday he left home and went out and came back sweating, he said he went to a church his friend invited him to meet a prophet and he came with a written prophecy report. The report highlighted every one of us in the family but I focus on my own which reported that my father should not spend money on me until he do some certain things. My intuition told me that the man forged it jus to evade his responsibility. I went to meet the man that he says took him to the church and the man denied that he never took him to any church.
At this period I was not my self because we kept on calling people to come beg him even calling his relatives but he kept on giving excuses and always on the defensive side. He called me failure, lazy levelled lots of allegation on me and manipulated his way when I reported him to people and make them to be against me
Reality later Dawn on me that this man want to ruin my education. The worst thing is that I have already started even as far as attending lectures, assigned to a project supervisor and even loosing a job offer, and he's about to ruin my plans of even working because the place I currently live with him is very remote and far from City center.
Currently I'm stranded going to two months now, he hasn't giving me any money, I borrowed money to be attending lectures and getting school expenses
This same man is sponsoring some children's education in the community, two children I'm an expensive primary school, that's just the annoying part of it all.
So now I'm about to disown him, I would make life miserable for him. He must surely pay for the frustration and depression he has put me through.
Since he depended so much on monthly pension I wish federal government should jus stop it for him

My father is a retired military man too, he has never even for once got involved in our education, since we were born. Now all of us are done with education, i am the last and I graduated 3 years ago. Go home and hug your father, tel him you love him that he has done so much for you. Leave that your studies and focus on the hussle first, try get a job

As a National Diploma (ND) holder with upper credit (3.22) in chemical engineering, which i obtained since 2017, i'm still hustling like i never went to school at all..

There was no money to further my HND, as i even managed to finished my ND due to finacial difficulties..

Any good secondary school job requires a very good connection especially here in the north, I base in kano, I was in gombe,got another teaching here in kano for 25k and that's why I am here now, this is even my second month here..the lessons I was doing in gombe was 1k per student...as for doing lesson here? I am still working on it....but seriously talking abt good, I Don't see anybody near me in teaching chemistry, thanks for the advice, we will all get there, infact I don't see myself leaving this place anytime soon, started some business here already and itsi booming.... shalom

Hi! U can't choose where to be born. You need to start from somewhere. I was in your shoes. I was among the best three in my department with strong 2:1 and since no connection, I went straight to schools to apply immediately after NYSC. 25k was my salary and while managing it, I was applying until one clicked in about a year into teaching.

When I started working in the new place, I discovered that the big salary was not even enough to solve issues, I had to plan for business since remaining on the job does not guarantee increase.

Today, I earn much bigger than I expected from the business. The economy is even good for business because as prices are going up, you also increase your own. The only disadvantage is for the salary earners whose buying power continues to go down. What they could buy before, they can't buy today.
In fact, any salary earners without plan of establishing will remain poor.

So, first find something no matter how little.

Secondly, do not have the opinion that u must practice what u studied.

After nysc, I immediately picked up secondary sch teaching job, 40k. Money I made from nysc I used in picking up msc form. I was teaching in secondary, doing msc and ofcourse missing classes, but was also making money doing lessons for students. All the while I kept applying for jobs.
I wrote recruitment test for FBN, spdc, mtn, vmobile, stanbic ibtc, standard chartered Bank and union Bank. It was when I started writing my thesis that Union Bank clicked for me. 1 year inside union Bank, msc done and dusted. Immediately I picked up PhD forms. Years down the line I'm a PhD holder.
Morale? Get busy.
Applying for jobs is not an excuse to be idle. Schools just resumed, send your CV to schools you'll be surprised. I advised someone on this, she got two offers. One sch paying 35k and another paying 50k. She took the 50k. Weeks later, she told me that teachers make cash from lesson in the sch, lesson there is 20k per month, gather 3 students do lesson for them and you are paying yourself.

Funny enough you studied Chemistry and education I think, wtf are u looking for with a safety certificate when your line is education and you can use that as a spring board? Except you really don't know Chemistry well, do you know how many parents will pay for lessons for their science kids to study Chemistry and physics? Dude,....
