Nairaland / General / Trade Nigeria's Export Seminar 2022 by NATIONALMAIL: 2:08pm On Feb 07, 2022
The Trade Nigeria's Export Seminar 2022 is uniquely designed and tailored to suit all aspect of business life which include, but not limited to Export, entrepreneurship and lots more.

The export seminar will create a pathway for interested participants Join in the Nigeria Pavilion & Exhibition Stand to showcase and promote your products in an international platforms (EUROPE, ASIA, AUSTRALIA, MIDDLE EAST), designed by Trade Nigeria for 2022.

The Export Seminar 2022 is designed to hold at the Trade Nigeria Auditorium, #6, Omerelu Street, GRA Phase 1, Port Harcourt.

There is power in being connected to other people who are active in your line of business, but it can also be easy to talk yourself into committing to an annual seminar meeting year after year. Many people think that having or owing a business is enough, but to capitalize on the return on your investment you need to be engaged and participate actively in business meetings, conferences and business workshop seminars.

Many Entrepreneurs, Small business owners and Traders are busy, so the thought of taking a few hours or days away from their business to participate in a conference, trade show, convention or seminar can seem like a waste of time. However, these live meetings might be just what you need to uncover new ways to growing your business.

Many think that being around competitors can be a waste of time, or worse; a chance for others to steal their ideas. But not everyone in your business is actually a competitor, as many can be allies and friends. The mindset you choose about participating in events will reflect on your results.

Here are five reasons to attend a business Seminar or trade conference:

1. It helps you to network with other business partners.

Business meetings or conferences provide a great opportunity to network. Often competitors from different business background can become valuable resources for referrals and best-practices. Avoiding partners for fear of others discovering your competitive advantage can actually limit your own success. Collaboration is the way to approach networking. While there are those whose intentions can be suspected, most people can help each other uncover ideas and spark inspiration when they get to know each other on a personal level.

2. It Creates Educational Opportunities.

No matter how experienced you are at your business, everyone can learn. Working in a small business venture can often be isolating, and without exposure to a variety of points of view, we can miss new ideas and trends that can impact future results. The educational aspect of a business meeting can expose you to new ways of conducting your business and help you discover how to be more productive.

3. It helps you Encounter new vendors and suppliers.

Too often people shy away from business meetings, trade exhibit show hall and all of that. They fear that they will have to talk to salespeople, but some industry suppliers are some of the best people for you to get to know if you want to learn more about the current business climate. Discovering innovative products and services for your business is necessary to stay competitive in today’s fast-paced world. Plus, these vendors who sell to your organization fully grasp what is happening inside your competition. Invest time with the sponsors at the event and turn them into your friends and allies.

4. It creates a comparative advantage.

When you are active in your line of business, you can develop a reputation as an expert to your competitors and your clients. Those who are engaged over the long term are often asked to speak at the business events and to write articles for publications. Like it or not, others like to associate with the experts in any industry. Clients feel good about doing business with those that are celebrated by their peers. If your strategy is to be the best-kept secret in your business community, you will be missing a valuable opportunity.

5. It helps you relax and have Time Out.

Being in business should be rewarding and fun. All work and no play can get old fast. Business meetings and conferences can add a layer of enjoyment to managing your career growth by mixing a social aspect into your learning and industry branding efforts. Many events have fun activities such as parties, socializing and tours of the local area where the event is hosted. Taking an extra day at the beginning or end of the trip to explore or visit friends in the region is also a great way to maximize the investment in travel. Never underestimate the power of a little fun mixed with some interesting people!

Many falsely believe that since they can now access business information via the Internet that the days of the live meeting are gone. The truth is, meetings are more important than ever. The value in meetings comes from the human-to-human connections that occur. Often people cite the serendipitous “hallway conversations” that they have with other attendees as the most valuable parts of attending a business meeting or business event. While these are not on the agenda, or mentioned in the breakout sessions learning objectives, when two or more people begin to discuss topics on a deeper and personal level, the success of the event to those involved becomes irreplaceable. It is the people that bring the return on investment (ROI) to your time at the event.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria - Korea Economic And Investment Forum Is On The 14th October 2021 by NATIONALMAIL: 1:02pm On Sep 24, 2021
Asia has been Africa's largest trading partner and the recent boom in commerce in both Africa and Asia countries explains the trade collaboration.

These trade flows are currently being spearheaded by China, South Korea Japan, India and Indonesia who has shown increased appetite for African commodities. Africa too greatly depends on manufactured goods from China, South Korea, Vietnam and other Asia countries. As the global market becomes more fused together, a lot is at stake for the economic welfare of those of us in Africa.

South Africa and Nigeria together accounts for over 55 percent of the entire continents economic activities. Africa's exports to Asia have not yet significantly contributed to sustained widespread export diversification whether in trading partners or exports. Although the boom in natural resources exports to China and India is providing short-term benefits, African countries need to strategies to leverage the current export explosion to create opportunities for long-term economic benefits. Recently, India that used to be the highest buyers of Nigeria's Brent crude has dropped to second place behind Spain as a result of the effects of the pandemic in the country.

Twenty years ago, prices for Africa's leading commodity exports have increased significantly. This happened as a result of the rapid growth of Asia's developing countries, China and India. Also, the desire for manufactured goods from China and India has also risen significantly because Chinese goods and commodities are more affordable for majority of the middle class Africans as compared to American and European commodities. These demand changes creates important opportunities for Africa's businesses to increase and diversify exports. It has also created an opportunity for African Entrepreneurs to extract more value locally by further processing commodities before exporting them.

Nigeria – Korea Economic and Investment Forum2021 which is coined out of The Asia-Africa Economic and Investment Forum, is a multi-sectorial trade mission designed to hold from the 14th of October 2021 and it’s powered by Trade Nigeria in partnership with Globe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Trade Mission to Seoul, South Korea will seek to address the status quo of Nigeria as well as Africa's export to Asia from petroleum and non-oil minerals to other processed commodities. Currently, Africa's export of oil and natural gas accounts for over 60 percent of its total export, followed by ore and metals. Meanwhile, Africa imports mainly more value added commodities like textiles, electric machinery and equipment, gadgets and consumer products like drugs, cosmetics and lot more.

Also, the Nigeria – Korea Economic and Investment Forum2021 will help to facilitate improved market access for low-income countries. This can be achieved through the lowering of industrial countries multilateral tariff and non-tariff barriers on Africa's product which will in turn increase our exports significantly.

Another issue that will be addressed is the lack of trust, infrastructure, understanding and systems that will handle African risk in Asia based banks.

Lastly, the Economic and Investment Forum will help Nigeria as well as Africa to achieve the economic growth that will turn the continent to a successful one and increase the welfare and quality of life of everyone.

Nairaland / General / Global Housing And Real Estate Summit And Expo by NATIONALMAIL: 3:27pm On Sep 14, 2021
The Global Housing and Real Estate Summit and Expo is a program designed to unify globally real estate experts, professionals, buyers, sellers, developers, regulatory bodies among others.

The Global Housing and Real Estate Summit and Expo, diaspora edition is powered by Trade Nigeria in partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Height of economic uncertainties in Nigeria is causing a spike in property investments abroad not just by wealthy Nigerian citizens, who have traditionally explored this option, but by members of the middle class using the opportunity to obtain citizenship in foreign countries.

Investment in land and properties is popular worldwide for obvious reasons. Shelter is a basic need of mankind, a profitable investment venture and a core requirement for production. Several (relatively small) countries looking to attract foreign investments into their real estate, hospitality and tourism sectors are using property investment opportunities with the added benefits of fast-tracked residency or citizenship status for investors as bait for high net worth foreign nationals, mainly from the African and Asian continent.

According to findings it was discovered that at least 22 countries across the world have Citizenship by Investment (CBI) programs that offer foreigners citizenship or permanent residency after they have invested in real estate and Nigerians who can afford these offers are actively subscribing to them.

Nairaland / General / Japan - Africa Economic And Investment Forum 2021 by NATIONALMAIL: 3:14pm On Aug 17, 2021
The Japan –Africa Economic Forum will be an innovative Business and Investment marketplace that will create a business mix, matching opportunities, and as well, attract capital for projects on the continent of Africa.

Africa is the world’s second largest and second most populous continent, comprising more than 54 countries. With a population of over 1 billion, it is attractive for any investor. Being successful in these markets requires insight into the languages, cultures, government bureaucracy, regulations, type of innovative technologies and workforce of each country. Everyone is different, and this makes it very difficult to use the same recipe for any two countries. There may be similarities in the regions but inside information is still required.

If you consider culture to be an integrated pattern of human knowledge and beliefs, as well as a set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterize a group of people, then Africa is a continent with diverse culture. This should be seen as an opportunity for any investor.

The best time to invest in Africa is now, However, foreign investors have not moved into the continent as quickly as expected because foreign investment decisions are often methodically over structured. One of the major factors cited is too much risk. But risks and profits are inseparable twins: high-risk ventures are frequently associated with higher profits.

Africa is the most profitable region in the world. A report by the UN Conference on Trade and Development states that between 2006 and 2011, Africa had the highest rate of return on inflows of Foreign Direct Investment: 11.4%. This is compared to 9.1% in Asia, 8.9% in Latin America and the Caribbean. The global figure is 7.1%

Investing in Africa is good business and a sustainable corporate strategy for foreign investors. Advanced and emerging countries’ governments and the private sector should leverage these profitable, emerging investment opportunities. Using official development assistance to leverage and de-risk the investment climate in Africa is a key component in attracting FDI.

The Japan – Africa Business and Investment Forum is a laudable effort that should be scaled-up and supported by other countries that has the business might.

The Japan – Africa Business and Investment Forum which comes up from the 3rd to 10th of October 2021 is organized by Globe Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), in partnership with Nigeria Min. of Foreign Affairs, Trade Nigeria, Japan Business Council for Africa and a host of others.

Nairaland / General / World Food And Trade Expo: How High Inflation Rate Is Ravaging Nigerians by NATIONALMAIL: 3:02pm On Aug 17, 2021
The World Food and Trade Expo will be one of the portfolios of food/trade exhibition that will promote local, continental and international dishes from food vendors, chefs and professionals that are passionate and creative in food production around the globe.

The program will come with lots of profitable features and business opportunities such as B2B business meeting (interactive section between exhibitors and buyers), among others.

The world Food and Trade Expo is powered by Trade Nigeria in partnership Globe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Nigerians are finding unique ways to cope with the rising cost of goods and services that have atrociously eroded their purchasing power.

Coping mechanisms are critical to surviving the increasing hardship synonymous with galloping inflation. Nigeria’s recent inflation report shows that the country is still plagued with double-digit inflation, implying that prices have increased massively from last year when the economy was engulfed with panic buying, border closures and lockdown restrictions. As economists scramble to find solutions, the citizens are left to figure out their survival.

Unlike other macroeconomic phenomena, Inflation does not discriminate and its effects are distributed to every individual in the economy. While few may be capable of absorbing the effects, most Nigerians would see this as a painful stroke as the country remains the poverty capital of the world.

Nigeria’s inflation rate reduced to 17.75% in June 2021, down from 17.93% the previous month May 2021. Inflationary pressures have fallen for the third time in a row, but the decline is still not enough to have any huge effect on the economy.

According to the SBM report for Q2 2021, the average cost of preparing a pot of Jollof rice for a Nigerian household was N7,124 in March 2021, but it rose to N7,618 in June 2021, representing a 6.93% rise in just three months.

The report raised concerns about the prevalence of stunting in children under the age of five which climbed to 36.8 from 36.2 in 2012. It also highlighted that the proportion of people who are undernourished has increased from 7.6 in 2012 to 12.6 in 2020.

“Most of those interviewed in the low socio-economic strata confessed they could no longer afford three square meals but had one whole meal daily supplemented with snacks,” said Report.

Based on the current Premium Motor Spirit Price Watch report, the average price paid by Nigerian consumers for a litre of petrol climbed by 28.49 % from N128.88 in the corresponding period of 2020 to N165.61 in June 2021.

Nigerians have also seen prices jump in basic consumable such as “Pure water” further checkmating how the common man satisfies his thirst. Unfortunately, double-digit inflation has been part of the economy since as far back as 2016 and many Nigerians have gotten used to the increasing levels of hardship.

Views from some Nigerians

A Supervisor(name withheld) at Amazing Grace restaurant told our reporters that Food prices, in particular, have risen, with no end in sight.

“The prices of goods are pretty exorbitant. For example, the price of a bag of rice went from N12,000 to N28,000, a carton of chicken soared from N12000 to N20000, a bag of pepper rose from N15,000 to  N22,000, the worrying thing is that I can’t foresee when the inflation would slow down.”

Chidera reacted to the inflation by seeking out less expensive alternatives to the things he regularly consumes.

He said, “The varying pricing of items allows us to choose other goods that are less expensive to consume. For example, the cost of imported rice has risen to the point where we must purchase local rice. We favour pounded yam over poundo yam, although we do more poundo yam due to the increase in yam prices in the market. We use goya oil instead of royal oil in frying, which has caused the market price to rise.”

An architect (name withheld) at Bcreative design consult said the cost of building items was the most impacted by inflation.

He said, “Because of its importance in the construction industry, I would say cement has been affected the hardest by inflation. A bag of cement we were buying for N2,600 climbed to N3,900 in just two years, which is a big increase.”

A scholar also stated that inflation would fall only if the government intervened significantly.

“I believe that if the government intervenes in some way, we may see a decrease in prices, which will help bring down the cost of building as well as the cost of houses rented or owned.”

According to John Maynard Keynes said, “The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong are more powerful than is commonly understood.” Hence, high inflation can be seen as the shortcomings of Nigerian economic policies.

Nigerians would have to endure the escalating economic agony until the problems are remedied. It should be emphasized that inflation can cause social disruptions such as a rise in crime and political upheaval.

However, Nigerians have demonstrated tenacity in the face of adversity, signifying once again, the citizenry’s resourcefulness. Nevertheless, if this situation endures, only time will tell how Nigerians will respond.

Nairaland / General / Automobile & Automechanic Engineering And Technology Training Program by NATIONALMAIL: 3:48pm On Jun 03, 2021
Automobile & Automechanic Engineering and Technology Training Program: What is your Plan After The Program?

We have proffer some detailed options that could best suite participants/trainees of the Automobile & Automechanic Engineering and Technology Training after the program.

Take a dig, as it opens channels of thoughts for you!

Starting a business in the automobile industry is not different from starting any other business. Think about the area you want to go into. Do your market research, develop a business plan, and ensure you have sufficient financing for the business.

Also, take time to recruit the right staff and offer excellent customer service, as this would help you build a loyal customer base.

The automobile industry has lots of business opportunities for anyone who is interested.  if you have been looking to venture into the sector, it helps you have the right tips. Let’s joggle you through some decision making criteria:

What area do you want to Specialize in?

There are several areas which include:

Sale of accessories, which requires you to find good suppliers.  you can go into franchising, where you limit your business to a well-established brand or be a general dealer, retailing for many brands.
Mobile car wash business
Body workshops to fix damages to car exteriors
Tire sales and repair
Leasing business for car hires
Shuttle services, ridesharing and so much more.
Think about going into an area that isn’t too competitive. Niche areas are ideal because the demand often outweighs supply. Another good idea is to limit yourself to one particular line instead of trying to sell everything.

For instance, if you decide to sell car accessories, you could focus on luxury car items. It sets you apart from other people who may be selling standard products that are readily available everywhere.

Carry out a proper market research

Let’s say you want to open a Toyota dealership in a particular locality. Some of the first things to do are to find out if there is a demand for the products and services you plan to offer to customers in the locality and to carry out proper research to see how much competition there is.

A critical analysis will give you much of the answers you need. It looks at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. You get a foundation upon which you will make any decisions regarding the business.

Another critical part of the market research is understanding your target audience. Do you want to target high-end car owners?   Are you looking to provide solutions to middle and low-class car owners?

Come up with a profile or audience persona for your target customers. This will help you design your sales and marketing strategy in ways that target your preferred customers best.

Come up with a business plan

Now that you have all the insights from your research, it is time to develop a business plan.  Think about it as the strategy that will guide all your activities. It highlights goals, timelines, plans of action, and the financial aspects of the business.

When developing the business plan, it is crucial to understand industry rules and regulations. There are specific guidelines you will need to abide by depending on the line you take. If you go into the dealership, for example, it helps to know things like emission standards.

Get the help of a professional lawyer to guide you through the process. It also doesn’t hurt to talk to other people who have set up successful businesses in the sector.

Decide what kind of a company you want to set up. It can be a limited (Ltd) company, partnership, or sole proprietorship. Understand the implications of each type, especially around things like taxation.  Again, it helps to have expert advice on the best way forward.

The right location for your business

Looking for the right location for your business is important if you want to run a brick-and-mortar establishment. You can also go online, depending on the type of business.

Without a doubt, things like body shops, car wash centres, and service stations need a physical location. Others like tire and accessory sales can work well in the online space.

There is also a third option you can explore. Mobile service stations remove the cost of the traditional physical locations.  but, you must invest in a proper van with the right accessories. It should be able to handle the demands of constant movement as you serve your clients.

When looking for a physical location, take your time to find the right space. Your budget will determine where you set up shop. You must also have enough funds to cover expenses such as rent, overhead, and other running costs.

Capital for your business

A business plan will let you know how much financing you need for the business. Some sources of capital are:

Your personal savings.
A loan from family or friends. It is essential to enter an agreement on how you will repay the loan. And yes, you must treat the financing like any other loan. You do not want to lose family or friends because of money you didn’t repay!
Apply for loans from financial institutions. It helps to have a good credit score when applying for loans. You get to enjoy better interest rates, allowing you to repay faster.

A well-structured Marketing strategy

If you are entering a franchise agreement, you can leverage on the existing brand reputation. But, if not, you will initially struggle with brand awareness. It helps to put aside some money for marketing purposes. The good news is there are loads of opportunities to market a business inexpensively in the digital space.

Start by setting up a website. Your target audience will want to know about the company. They will most likely use the search engines to find you. Implement best SEO practices so that the search engines can find you easily. Such practices include using the right keywords, developing relevant and engaging content, and optimizing your site for mobile visitors.

Use social media platforms to get more visibility.
Email marketing is effective and inexpensive. Start by developing a target audience list. Next, segment the audience for better targeting.
Join relevant networking groups on different platforms like Twitter, Facebook groups, and LinkedIn.

Nairaland / General / Traders' Business Forum 2021: The Need To Attend by NATIONALMAIL: 2:07pm On Feb 25, 2021
The Trade Nigeria's Traders Business Forum 2021 is uniquely designed and tailored to suit all aspect of business life which include, but not limited to entrepreneurship, skills training, mentorship and lots more.

The Traders Business Forum 2021 is designed to hold at the Trade Nigeria Auditorium, 5th floor, Edo House Abuja from the 18th of March to the 19th of March 2021.

There is power in being connected to other people who are active in your line of business, but it can also be easy to talk yourself into committing to an annual business meeting year after year.

Here are five reasons to attend a business forum or trade conference:
