Phones / Has Phablet Replaced Tablet? by Navvy(m): 3:39pm On Nov 21, 2016
While many argue that there will always be a place for a bigger screen, a more powerful processor, and a physical keyboard…there’s no denying that people spend a tone of time on their smartphones. Will you buy another tablet or laptop? Or, can your phablet meet your technology needs?
You might think that your laptop is your pride and joy, and that your phablet could never, ever replace it, but is that really true? Let’s take a look at ways your Infinix phablet (Infinix Note 3) has already replaced your tablet as your go to Internet/email/work/everything device.
It has 128GB of storage
Infinix smartphones have internal storage spaces that are expandable to 128GB. Why bother with a tablet when you can store everything on your phone? (And if not on your phone, in the cloud?)
It has a giant screen
As laptop screens gets smaller, Infinix smartphone screens are getting bigger, the new Infinix Phablet-- Note 3 is a case in point, with a 6” screen size. With such an amazing size, tablets becomes too cumbersome and almost irrelevant.
It can connect to a Bluetooth
The lack of a physical keyboard argument is probably the best argument as to phablets can’t really replace tablets. But there are plenty of Bluetooth keyboards that work with smartphones, the Infinix phablet supports the OTG feature, this makes it easier for you to use your phone as a PC.
All the cool games are mobile
When last did you play a game on your tablet? Not too recent? Here is why, most of the best and interesting games are on your Infinix phablet, this is another good reason to ditch your tablet for a phablet.
It’s always connected
You know the drill, pull out your tablet/laptop, and immediately start searching for free Wi-Fi. Your phablet, on the other hand, is always connected to the Internet. Sure, there’s a data limit, but better to have a data limit than no Internet at all right?
It’s with you all the time
You may not think that your Infinix phablet has replaced your tablet, but when you need to fire off a quick email or check Google to prove you’re right in an argument, do you pull out your tablet or laptop?? I don’t think so. With smartphones like Infinix Phablet, you may soon be saying goodbye to your tablet.

Phones / Smartphones: A New Dimension To Bullet Proof by Navvy(m): 2:27pm On Nov 21, 2016
More and more stories have continued to emerge from around the world of victims of violence whose lives were saved by their Huawei mobile devices. The latest is the story of a very fortunate South African man, Siraaj Abrahams who is only alive today, thanks to his Huawei P8 which caught the bullet targeted at his heart.
According to the 41-year-old Abrahams, a father of five children who runs an IT and automotive business in Cape Town, he was attacked and a bullet that could have penetrated his chest got lodged in his Huawei P8 Lite instead. After being shot, he passed out without knowing his Huawei smartphone had saved his life. Sometime later, Abrahams claimed to have seen the hole left by the bullet in his jacket and his broken Huawei smartphone and realized what had happened.
As odd as the story sounds, it is not actually the first time a Huawei smartphone has blocked a bullet and saved a life. A P7 user living in the tropical forests of Guatemala had a similar story to tell. Another grateful Huawei phone user is a researcher from Milllward Brown who used the Media Pad as a shield to protect himself from a gunshot fire exchange in Garissa, Kenya that could have taken his life while he was conducting field work research.
Interesting stories have been reported where smartphones have been used for everything from cracking walnuts to catching bullets. While these stories claim quite a bit of luck, world leading smartphone manufacturer Huawei continues to take steps to refine their manufacturing and quality control processes. This ensures that devices are crafted to perfection with multiple rounds of testing and developers pay meticulous attention to the device’s design and manufacturing processes.
For instance, according to Huawei, when it comes to inspection, it has a top-notch reliability test laboratory where comprehensive tests are conducted on all its handsets and at times these measures can be extreme. Some of these tests include:
• Mechanical reliability check: A sample must withstand thousands of rounds of drum tests, 500 rounds of twist tests, a 70kg hardware stress test and 2,000 rounds of software stress tests.
• Environmental durability: The sample undergoes a 72-hour solar radiation test, 48 hours of hot and cold shift tests, 8 hours of salt spray tests, damp heat test, vibration test and other wear-resistance tests.
• Lifecycle reliability checks: The sample undergoes 800,000 touch screen taps, 200,000 key touches, 5,000 headphone plug endurance tests and 10,000 USB interface plug endurance tests.
In terms of quality management systems, Huawei’s products meet the world’s most rigid standards such as those applied in the US, Europe and Japan and all products passing through the human radiation safety laboratory testing fully comply with the US FCC certification, says Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group. “Quality is the integrity and lifeline of Huawei. It employs the ‘craftsmen’s spirit’ to measure its products and ensure zero defects.”
Thanks to its zero tolerance towards defective products and continued pursuit of innovation and quality, Huawei has earned global success and widespread acclaim. In the telecommunication equipment market, Huawei is already the world’s leading information and communication solutions provider. In the smartphone market, according to figures from market and user experience research consultancy, GFK, Huawei’s global market share has stayed in the top three, while taking the lead in most markets. More than 60% of Huawei’s revenue comes from the overseas market as its products are shipped to over 170 countries around the world

Phones / Do We Really Need Microsd In Our Phones? by Navvy(m): 10:41pm On Sep 22, 2016
MicroSD cards are serious business, or at least that's the impression given by the uproar surrounding any major android smartphone that doesn't include a slot for one. But are they really necessary?

There's no denying that they can be appealing. Regardless of how much storage a smartphone has, a microSD card can boost it even up to 128GB. That can certainly be useful for anyone who wants to jam their phone full of media, but even if you don't, it's comforting to have that safety net, knowing that the storage is there if you need it. But do you need it? Really?

Recently Infinix launched their Infinix Hot S and it generated some hot debate because though the phone has a 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM but users talked more about its hybrid SIM. You might argue that there's no downside to having a microSD card slot even if it's not likely to get used, but that is not entirely true.

A microSD card slot is not necessarily desirable even when it can easily be included. Because while microSD cards sound good on paper in reality they can hugely impact a phone’s performance. So Infinix did a smart thing by providing a hybrid option in their Hot S, meaning you can use either a dual SIM at once or a SIM and an SD card.

According to a study at the Georgia Institute of technology, using a microSD card in your phone can cause it to become sluggish, with even basic tasks like web browsing suffering as a result. Overall performance can often drop by between 100% and 300% and in one case the study found that there was an incredible 2000% decrease in performance. Do you still need that SD card?

The reason for the performance loss is simple, microSD cards themselves are not fast enough. They can't keep up with the power and speed packed into modern smartphones. Though some are better at this than others and the brand and class of card you choose will have a big impact.

An average smartphone user in Nigeria uses on the average 8GB of internal memory on his/her mobile device. It then means that having a phone like the Infinix Hot S with 2GB RAM and 16 or 32GB ROM (internal memory) is more than enough.

Given the rate that storage has increased so far in phones like the Infinix Hot S and Hot 4, will that be the death of the microSD card? Well, that is likely to happen sooner rather than later and when it does microSD cards will become a lot less desirable.

Webmasters / Founders Conference To Host Over 200 Tech Start-ups by Navvy(m): 8:13pm On Sep 18, 2016
Founders of tech-driven start-ups, technology enthusiasts and other stakeholders within the Nigerian business ecosystem will gather at the first edition of Founders conference organised by Venture Starter Company.

The conference will be held on the 3rd October,2016 at the Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event tagged "founders conference 2016" is designed to foster innovation and sustainability in the country's entrepreneurial space as start-up founders will have the opportunity to gain new insight, forge entrepreneurial alliances and meet with venture capitalists.

According to the organizers, 20 most innovative business ventures among the 240 attendees expected will be selected to pitch to investors for funding opportunity.

The event's convener and Chief Executive Officer, Venture Starter, Bunmi Jembola said the speakers scheduled for the conference are successful start-up founders and will focus on the approach needed to accelerate growth and profitability running a business.

They include the Founder/CEO ,IrokoTV - Jason Njoku, Founder/CEO, supermartng.com - Raphael Afaedor, CEO, tolet.com.ng - Fikayo Ogundipe, Bilikiss Adebiyi Abiola - Founder/CEO, Wecycler, Founder/CEO, Printivo.com - Oluyomi Ojo among others.

"Founders Conference is targeted at Nigeria's technology start-up founders, co-founders, venture fund providers, and SME regulatory agencies and technology enthusiasts." says Jembola.
"Nigerian technology start-ups are faced with several problems but chief among them is knowledge. Many founders start out knowing too little and very often that results in disaster. This conference seeks to substantially bridge the knowledge gap by bringing Nigeria's most successfully tech start-up founders.

"Another major problem is infrastructure. It is common knowledge that every business person in Nigeria provides virtually all his infrastructure. In other climes where start-ups record more accelerated growth a sharing economy is created around start-up hubs and this is actively supported by government to such an extent that it substantially reduces take-off cost.

"Government can provide work space, cheap internet, power, water and even finance. This in itself is enough incentive to get several youths on the bandwagon of technology and innovation.
He also added that the conference intends to foster an engagement between start-up founders and key decision makers in government on a panel specifically meant for policy makers.

Individuals interested to attend can register for free at www.foundersconference2016.com

Webmasters / Google Removed Over 1.75 Billion Websites From Search Results by Navvy(m): 1:46am On Sep 15, 2016
Google has removed as many as 1.76 billion websites from Google search results as of the time this article was being composed. This can be confirmed on the Google transparency report counter.

In March 2016, Google recorded about 75 million takedown request in other to keep pirate websites out of its search results. There have also been a major increase in the takedown requests. The overall amount of copyright requests is estimated to have increased by 53% Year over Year.

Within the transparency report counter, you can also track the amount of takedown requests Google has received over time. Google has zero tolerance for such issues so they have decided to take the bull by the horn, by responding to the requests. Currently there is no pending requests available.

You can also apply for a takedown request but you have to note that such requests made to Google have to go through a 4-stage review process, which is as follows:

A copyright owner sends us a takedown notice for allegedly infringing material.
Google reviews the request, and complies if there aren’t issues with it.
Following DMCA process, a webmaster may issue a counter notification.
Upon receiving a counter notification, we decide whether or not to reinstate the material.

The company has also made it quite clear that it does not act as a mediator. If the copyright owner or the webmaster is still unhappy with the decision, they can file a lawsuit and leave the matter to be decided by the courts.

Phones / Infinix Hot 4 Full Review by Navvy(m): 8:18am On Aug 29, 2016
Infinix Hot 4 X557 is a direct successor of the Infinix Hot 3. The Infinix Hot 4 still features a 5.5-inch display, but with an upgrade to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and offers a fingerprint sensor like the recently launched Infinix Hot S. This new smartphone also runs on the new XOS user interface making your phone fully customizable.

Design and Display:
Infinix Hot 4 features a 3D textured back which gives you a solid grip of our device. The back covers are available in Blue, Red, Green, Champagne, and Black colours.
Infinix Hot 4 has a 5.5-inch Display with the same 720 x 1280 pixels resolution as its predecessor. However, the display offers 12 ultrabright backlight LEDs, which should make for a more brilliant viewing experience and better outdoor view.
There’s absolutely no button on the left side, but on the right side are the volume controls and power button.

Hardware and software:
Infinix Hot 4 runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). It is the third smartphone from Infinix to offer Marshmallow. This new smartphone also runs on the new XOS user interface making your phone fully customizable. You can change your theme and fonts without the need of rooting.
Infinix Hot 4 is powered by cortex, which offers a 32-bit address bus and a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.
The phone comes with 2GB RAM. This new smartphone is responsive, fast and performs exceptionally well. Games play just fine and I didn’t notice any lag when using the device. Multitasking works great, the 2GB RAM makes a lot of difference.
This phone also features a fingerprint sensor on the back like the Infinix Hot S which allows you conveniently secure ID access by placing you finger on the scanner right below the 8MP rear camera.

Connectivity:
It’s a dual SIM phone and the call quality was okay during use . Infinix Hot 4 features Smart Voice, which is just a technology that uses an additional microphone and some smart signal processing algorithms to isolate ambient noise for clearer calls. Whether you select SIM 1 or SIM 2 as default for data, you can set either to 3G. As expected, you can connect to the internet through WiFi and use your phone as a wireless hotspot. You also have bluetooth for file transfer.

The Storage:
The phone comes with a 16GB in-built storage out of which you have almost 12G usable. It’s definitely not enough for people like me but there’s the option of using an external memory. It supports up to 32GB SD card.
The battery capacity of this device is 4000mAh and the phone has good battery management and you should be able to use it for 2 days.

The Camera:
The front facing camera is getting an upgrade from 2 megapixels in the Hot 3 to 5 megapixels in the latest iteration. This makes the Infinix Hot 4 better for selfies.
There does not seem to be any improvement on the rear facing camera. Infinix Hot 4 still offers an 8 megapixels sensor with a five element lens system on top. This is essentially the same setup as its predecessor. The camera offers an LED flash with autofocus.

Infinix Hot 4 is now available in Nigeria. You can buy the smartphone at leading online stores in the country. Infinix Hot 4 currently costs N36,900 on Jumia.

Webmasters / 5 Tips On How To Grow Your Social Media Presence by Navvy(m): 2:55pm On Jul 20, 2016
These days everyone wants to gain social media recognition for themselves or to promote their business. Having a great social media presence can help grow your business but this is only possible if you are able to deliver to your audience what they really want.
After setting up your social media accounts for your business on all major sites like facebook, twitter, instagram etc you take time to post regularly and use your social media platforms as an opportunity to share information. However, it isn't about posting regularly or sharing information; you have to provide your audience with the opportunity to interact with you. Through the interaction, you will be able to build a solid relationship with your audience.
Today i will be sharing with you 5 tips on how to grow your social media presence.

1. Understand What Your Audience Wants
Understanding the interest of your audience will help you deliver well and interact with them more. Once you understand what they want to read about and you give it to them you will be able to build a solid relationship with them.

2. Look For Opportunities For Discussion
What is trending? Try your best to follow the trend as this is an opportunity for you to discuss with your audience. You can throw open-ended questions while discussing, this will id the discission. You can ask questions that your audience understand well enough to debate on while still having plenty of room for differing opinions.

3. Share Valuable Content
While trying to share with your audience what they want to read ensure your content is valuable and self explanatory. Having the best content helps you build a trustworthy relationship between you and your audience.

4. Make Out Time To Chat
This is one of the best ways to grow your social media presence. The more your business grows the less you will have time to connect with your audience on an intimate level. Personal relationship is the best way to grow audience satisfaction. You need to create time to chat with your audience or you can also create social media hangouts to answer FaQ's. When chatting with your audience try as much as possible to provide them reasonalble answers to their question.

5. Give Them A Reason
Give your audience a reason to follow you on social media. Reasons could be because of your content, provision of support service for them when they need it. This will give them a reason to engage with you.

Social media is a very good medium of promoting your business. All you need to do is know what to offer your audience and when to offer it.

Fashion / Nike Unveils Its First Self-lacing Sneakers by Navvy(m): 5:58pm On Apr 07, 2016
Nike has unveiled that its first Self-lacing sneakers 'HyperAdapt1.0' will go on sale this year. The pricing of the shoe has not been released but from the specifications it wouldn't be a cheap one as the shoe would have 'adaptive-lacing' feature that offers the user a more comfortable experience.

This project’s technical lead, Tiffany Beers stated that “when you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten.” Nike refers to this technology as “adaptive lacing” rather than “self-lacing” because there are two buttons on the side of the shoe that allows you adjust how loose or tight the laces are. In other words, people can customize the shoe or make modifications to fit their preferences.
The designers see the HyperAdapt 1.0 as the first step in the field of adaptive performance. While the shoes are currently manual, the technology opens up new possibilities for how sneakers could function almost seamlessly with a person’s feet, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield stated.
The company has not announced any information as regards the pricing or when the shoe would be available for purchase widely.

Phones / Cellebrite Suspected To Be The Company Behind Iphone Crack by Navvy(m): 3:25pm On Apr 01, 2016
After last year's shooting at San Bernardino, California, the United states F.B.I worked with the Isreal's Cellebrite mobile synchronization Ltd. to crack the apple iphone used by the shooter.

The United states Justice Department said on tuesday that it gained access to the data on the shooters phone after being approached by a third party about a possible way to gain access into the phone's data. Apple refused to comply with the court order to unlock the phone, reasons being it was an unreasonable demand on the company and will be a security threat to the privacy of other iPhone users.

Cellebrite has been working with the United states F.B.I even before this project, some people said, who asked that their identities should not be disclosed. The successful cracking of the iphone has put a pause to the government's legal battle with Apple for now.
Cellebrite declined to comment. Cellebrite involvement with the the FBI on this issue was first reported by Yedioth Ahronoth, an Isreali daily and the U.S law enforcement officials have declined to disclose who helped it gain access into the iphone.
