One could infer he was still living with his parents at 32, which could be a trigger. But then the story didn't give enough to arrive at any conclusion. Regardless, I won't judge his actions. High incidences of suicide in any particular society is a reflection of the prevailing standard of living.

Romance / Re: Why Do We Selectively Cry About Killings In Nigeria. The Rape Issue. by Neurotika: 12:00am On Jun 03, 2020
We're living in interesting times now where men are now at the receiving end of gender inequality. Man/Woman kills man, it's no news and no one cares. Man kills/rapes woman, it becomes a national concern.

The irony is, the same crusaders of these imbalance are the feminists whose core belief system supposedly centers on an egalitarian society.

They have succeeded in consistently using the "weaker vessel" argument in keeping men in the doldrums. Moreover, Men still record more deaths through homicides, suicides, wars, slavery, hard labor etc....yet no one want to have that conversation.

For all its worth, I detest ANY FORM of man's inhumanity to man with no special consideration to any gender. However, the hypocrisy should stop.

the problem is not your partner, the problem would be "you"... chances are, when your partner discovers that you did the above (for no reason but your insecurities), then you could lose your man.

Dude, spy on your partner if you have the means. I cannot stress this enough. Just find a balance between two much and too little. I get my hands dirty shamelessly when long term shiit comes to play. Those kinda stuff can mess you up real good if you wanna play it soft. And these deceivers aren't just out there to steal your sanity, they are after your reality too.

It might sound naive but the op is right in spying on anyone you have a long term plan for. Just do it mildly. As controversial as this sounds, don't ever try to trust a partner blindly without doing your covert investigations.

There are dogs everywhere now. Don't marry one blindly all in the name of "maturity".

Car Talk / Re: Total Value Of Your Cars Relative To Your Net Worth by Neurotika: 2:48pm On Apr 29, 2020
ednut1:
networth to car value. He is saying for u to use a Toyota corrola 2004 model which is like1.6m u must be worth 8m. How is that reasonable

20% is too much (especially for salary earners). 10% of your gross annual income is the benchmark. Cars are depreciating assets with little or no residual value after it's estimated useful life. The argument isn't about comfort, it's about making sound financial decisions with the future and retirement in mind.

For instance, you're required to have atleast 2500% of your annual expenses saved up by the time you're retiring, to enable you maintain your regular lifestyle for another 25 years (in which you can invest in an investment yielding atleast 5% with that money for the years to be more than 25 years).

My point is, cash rules. Not your car, house or any illiquid asset. It's your liquid assets that will come to your rescue when the chips are down.

While I agree it's all about preferences, but for any forward thinking individual with no established lucrative business, the op is simply echoing what any financial expert out there will advise.

Career / Re: Unimaginable Mass Job Losses Loom In Nigeria by Neurotika: 5:21pm On Apr 27, 2020
We will run into a stampede when news like this are given wings to fly. There will be job loss no doubt, but how are we so sure It's causation is strongly linked to the lockdown. What if there are other variables already regressing to its mean before the lock down (fall in oil prices, yearly downsizing plan of companies etc.)

Majority of the working population works in the public sector and the informal sector where there's a significant job security compared to the formal private sector.

Furthermore, the largest number of employers of labor in the private sector are in the service sector (Banks, audit & accounting firms, Law firms etc).

These firms will only record massive losses in their books if they probably lost certain investments hugely impacting their retained earnings, inventories (which in this case a misnomer considering their sector), or significant loss of customer base. In which case is largely unlikely for the players in this sector.

Predicting job loss based on a pseudo economic analysis of companies not being able to pay salaries due to the lock down without sufficiently backing it up with figures and proven hypothetical theories is intellectual arrogance.

Can you sufficiently prove how companies won't be able to pay salaries due to this lockdown, the independent variables such inability is tied to, the enormity of this impact and the sectors most likely to be hit?

Problem with news like this is not that they are wrong, it's cos they will be right because players in the economy will act in ways that will be as a result of news like this. It's called a self fulfilling prophecy.

Besides, most routine downsizing usually happens within mid year, especially in the financial sector. Hence if such retrenchment now happens, everyone will attribute it to the lock down. Even companies that have no justification to lay off considering the size of their balance sheet and retained earnings will hide under this analysis in order to have a legal justification.

In the words of Mark Twain, it ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble it's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

Testing is key. read up "covid-19 testing" and see how south Korea and UK are handling it like malaria. They have the technological knowhow to handle testkit production. They have state of heart blood testing robots that can outwork any human laboratory. What do we have? Big men with cars and mansions.

Can you please educate me how this will work considering the challenges the country has with information gathering and data science.

Why do you really think total lock down isn't the best strategy? My thinking is, this disease has an incubation period of two weeks tops; hence enforcing a three weeks or more comprehensive lock down at least stops the spreading phase of the disease.

At the end of this period, there are only two possibilities -
1. Some carriers (both new and the ones already showing symptoms) would have recovered from the disease.
2. The others dies from it - don't wish this to happen, just trying to be as pragmatic as possible. Although, those deaths won't be necessary if there are sufficient mobile health care providers partnering with government to treat the patients at home.

For now, I'm for total lock down considering the peculiarity of the country. However, any other superior method is totally welcome so far it records the desirable outcome.

They're trying so hard to make a hero out of him-more like a Sowore parody. Make him endearing to the gullible public, then make him a tool to achieve sinister political ambitions.

I'm yet to understand the love of Nigerians for people of superficial value. There are indicting claims on this man bordering around murder and extremism yet no one is digging further to investigate the veracity of these claims. Why is it anyone's business what an employer does to his rich employee. Why is it a national issue?

Honestly, we're the easiest people on earth to rule and manipulate and here we go again threading on same path Buhari rode on to drive the country to doldrums.

Call it conspiracy theory or whatever but this whole thing smells funny and I'm not eating it.

Tosdam:
There is big money in transportation especially in a busy place like Lagos... You think the state government is concerned about mega city. Did you know the huge amount of money the state government will generate if it controls transportation business singhandedly?

You're one of the few trying to think intelligently. However, substitute 'state Government' with 'the cartel controlling the state government' and you'll get the real picture.

We're dealing with a cruel syndicate of selfish bastards more concerned with monopolizing the transport system in a bid to ensure they lay claim to most of the revenues that the former deregulated system enjoyed. No one audits the procurement process of these contracts. They'll award contracts running in multiples of billions in the name of 'palliative measures' which will as usual be diverted to private pockets. After a while they'll loosen their stance on the ban, but their aim has been achieved anyway.

Since 1983 till date over $1.5b has been spent in the name of revamping the transport system in lagos yet nothing works!. No one is holding their leaders accountable for these. They're more concerned with Plebeians using bikes to escape the demonic traffic situation caused by their age long corruption.

The ban is just a smoke screen for a bigger fraud. Unfortunately, the heist will continue since the population have majority as illiterates.

It’s a lazy and ill timed policy. We talking of a city with one of the highest population density in the world and one of the highest income inequality. In a hell like this, transportation will normally be a problem.

Questions should normally be asked. Why is there a massive proliferation of these bikes in the state, why are they in huge demand? The obvious answer will point to the failure of the transportation system. Yet the root cause isn’t been tackled but the symptoms of a disease.

Ban it If you like but It’ll take a while to realize that the policy will be counterproductive in the long run if the right things aren't done.

Even with alternative transport systems, the traffic situation is already unbearable.

It’s this same Government that are encouraging the ‘car sharing' idea in a bid to reduce the cars on the road to reduce the traffic. Yet still wake up one day and eliminate the alternatives, which will definitely increase the number of cars plying these roads. Add that to an explosive population density and you get a perfect description of hell.

Just last year Economic Intelligence Unit ranked Lagos the most dangerous/worst city to live in using basically four parameters - digital security, health, infrastructure and personal security.

Government aren't addressing these basic parameters but are concerned with 'okadas taking over lagos'. They're not concerned with the tanker drivers who has turned lagos roads to a permanent residence. Their business isn't even directed at the activities of 'agberos', NURTW etc equally contributing to the upsurge in traffic and crime rates. Even their agencies, LASTMA and the likes equally share blames in these too but it's not anyone's business.

People should focus on real issues not riding on bandwagon to give disproportionate weight to trivial issues.

Dude, focus on getting yourself a job to take care of your kids. If you've got friends, discuss your jobless state with them and ask them to help. You could even go farther by contacting your former employer to assist in giving you referrals after explaining things to him.

About your 'wife', well I don't know if you've actually thoroughly apologized to her. If you've done so and she's still on this disrespect nonsense, move on and ensure you can atleast feed yourself in the meantime. Even if it means being fed by your mum. Leave that environment for the sake of your mental health.

Marriage to me is deeper than all the crap people have been posting up there. There are certain mistakes, only those we share a deep bond with can forgive us for. Unfortunately the mother of your kids isn't in that category.

I repeat, focus your energy on getting a job!,...then feed your fam from a distance. Also obliterate from your mind the belief that you have a wife. You don't.

Romance / Re: Don't Accuse A Lady Of Cheating If You Won't Marry Her by Neurotika: 6:03pm On Jan 05, 2020
There's more risk jumping around than sticking to a man for long. What's wrong with defining the relationship from the onset and constant communication of needs then leaving when these aren't met.

I can easily marry a woman who stayed faithful to her ex in a relationship that lasted 10 years but later got dumped than a hoe testing the microphone with different men cos she's obsessed with quickly 'settling down'.

Cheating is a nature. You don't cheat if you don't have it naturally in you. Same way a carnivore can't feed on plants. Ya'll can rationalize these things all you want, but a woman who has any reason to cheat instead of ending things is a virus that will eventually destroy the man she eventually 'settles' with.

The problem with this country is more fundamental than it appears. The citizens don't speak with one voice so the so called democracy is dead on arrival. Take for instance this Sowore issue, we're now divided into four major factions.

1. The ones who still support Buhari despite all his excesses
2. The ones who don't support him but are still filled with ire how their 'kinsman' Jonathan was booted out of office. Even though at the time, he was performing awfully which left Nigerians with no choice.
3. The ones who initially supported Buhari due to the excesses of Jonathan but later realized the former is even worse. These are the few open minded ones with no blind loyalty to any particular individual but driven by sheer desire for the Country's prosperity.
4. The indifferent ones who are probably doing well financially and don't really care about the political happenings in the country.

Since the citizens aren't speaking with one voice, the ruling aristocrats can afford to be reckless cos they will always have citizens in these four factions who'll fight their own fellows to ensure the tyranny continues.

And it's in this mess Sowore finds himself. He evidently means well but he's fighting a cause only him can't achieve alone and needs the support of the majority. Unfortunately there is no sane and favorable majority. They all fiddle while Rome burns.
