According to the NYSC rules and regulations, serving corps members are not allowed to take part in partisan politics. Doing so attracts a penalty of 3 months without pay. But Davido has been supporting his uncle who is contesting for the Governor of Osun state and has been photographed at rallies clad in the PDP uniform.


Wale Gates shared a photo of Davido in his NYSC uniform and another of him in a PDP uniform and added a screenshot of the NYSC rule being flouted by the popular singer. He then invited lawyers to discuss it.
But most people are of the opinion that there's nothing to be discussed because Davido can well do without the three months meagre allowance.

Despite being accused of forging her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate, Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, has been elected to head the board of African Export-Import Bank.



Adeosun was elected during the annual general meeting and 25th anniversary of AFREXIMBANK in Abuja.

Kunle Afolayan has denied the comment attributed to him, that he doesn’t watch Nollywood movies. The actor posted a video shortly after the news went viral and film maker Egor also called him out. Kunle says Nollywood is his space, and why would he let his kids watch Nollywood films if he doesn’t.

While posting the video, he wrote;

”What is good for My kids is certainly good for me!
“My attention has been drawn to a report alleging that I claimed I do not watch Nollywood films.
“I urge all my fans to kindly disregard this statement which, obviously, was tweaked by a mischief maker to score cheap and sensational point, and cause disaffection between myself and and publics.

“While the report may tend to achieve its aim in some quarters, discerning minds would understand that it lacks credibility. Otherwise, how can the I say I do not watch Nollywood films yet allows my kids to watch same.
“It is obvious I was quoted out of context while answering to a question on bad film subtitles and not about Nollywood films as a genre.

“My take is that not every fan of a Nollywood movie care about good or bad subtitling, while makers of the films that are so referred not only have their followers, they have made fortunes from their productions. And as long as everyone is happy with what they do, it is pointless making unnecessary comparison.

“I am a grassroot person and avid promoter of the Nigerian brand. This can only explain, as quoted, why I allow my children to watch Nollywood films which have helped their educational development and cultural understanding.

“While my statement is not a sweeping one about Nollywood, the inference was about films that challenge my creative endeavour. This is not out of place for anyone who aspires for greatness in any field of their endeavour.
“I therefore urge my fans to disregard this, and any sensational publications that may tend to bring disaffection among practitioners who thrive to take Nollywood to greater height.

The photo of the young mother who abandoned her baby in a toilet stall at a market in Delta State has been released.


The mother simply identified as Edesiri gave birth to the baby at the newly commissioned ultra modern market in Sapele area and abandoned her there. The child was rescued after vigilante men in the area heard the baby's cry on Saturday night and followed the sound of the voice as well as traces of blood which eventually led them to a female toilet in the market.


The baby was taken to the hospital where she was cleaned up, fed, and treated. The mother was later discovered to have passed out in another hospital due to forceful removal of the placenta.

Ghanaians are currently calling out its government on Twitter after a video of a pregnant woman in labor being carried across a river in order to get her to a hospital surfaced online.


In the viral video shared by JoyNews , the pregnant lady from Nangruma community is filmed as some young men carry her across the river on a chair. A bike was first carried across the river to help continue the journey.
The report further revealed that the medium of transportation was the only alternative as the community had no healthcare center and continually suffer the risk of taking on long distance trips to get emergency healthcare service coupled with the fact that there are no bridges. Sadly, the woman’s child died.

A Kenyan family living in the US has been thrown into mourning pain after the father hit and killed his 18-month son while reversing his car.
Mr Dan Mutuma, a nurse in Kansas City, was reversing his car from the parking when the child, Mishael Mutuma, walked unnoticed behind the vehicle, and was crushed.

The child was the grandson of Pastor Moses Mutuma of Miathene SDA district in Meru County, Kenya.
Mr Mutuma’s brother-in-law Ezra Kamencu Mingaine said the tragic incident has left the young family distraught.
The man had left his home early morning for a local university where he is studying but realised he had forgotten some document and went to get it.

He hurriedly picked the item, bid his wife Loise, who was tending to their young twins and mother-in-law goodbye, and quickly left the house without realising that his son had sneaked out of the house and followed him.
“It is so painful to the entire family and especially to the father to have crushed his own son. There is no way he could have seen the kid who was playing behind. The child had run unnoticed behind the vehicle as the father was reversing.

“The mother-in-law was in the kitchen while the wife was tending to the other twin children. It was so painful, nobody could be blamed for it,” said Mr Mingaine by phone.

The residents who saw the tragedy happen said they heard the father wailing after the child was hit by the car.
The TV station reported that local Olathe police were investigating the matter but did not expect to prefer any criminal charges from the incident and were treating it as an accident.
The child will be buried in the US but the burial date has not yet been set.
Mr Mingaine said that the incident has triggered revival of a campaign to sensitize motorists on the need to check their vehicles to prevent such tragedies from happening.
“If the child were not his, it would have been a terrible case. I have started educating members of the public on the need to ensure they know where their children are while driving away,” Mr Mingaine said.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, September 14, in Abuja, expressed optimism that new investment commitments coming into Nigeria’s textile sector, of which Aba is a major beneficiary, will be actualised within the shortest possible time.

According to the statement made available by the special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari gave the assurance when he received traditional rulers from Abia state led by His Royal Majesty, Dr Isaac Ikonne, Enyi 1 of Aba.



The president also assured the monarchs that the issue of unstable electricity and other basic infrastructure in Ariaria market, a major trading hub in West and Central Africa, would soon be a thing of the past.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to rapidly industrialise the country through projects that promote import substitution, the president said the investments in the textile industry would create thousands of jobs for youths in Aba.



He said: “Just last week, I was in China to attend the Forum for China-Africa Cooperation. During that visit, I personally met with executives of one of the largest cotton and garment companies in the world who will soon establish operations in Aba.



“This is following a joint effort of attracting this investor by both the federal and Abia state government.

‘‘The proposed investment will create thousands of jobs for the vibrant and creative youths in Aba.



‘‘I am very excited about this project. I have directed the minister of industry, trade and investment to ensure this investment is actualised within the shortest possible time.”

On Ariaria market, the president recounted that during his visit to Aba in 2015 as a presidential candidate, he was warmly received and walked through parts of the market where he observed the lack of electricity and other basic infrastructure for its over 40,000 shops.



“As a government, we issued a presidential mandate to the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the Rural Electrification Agency to energise the market.

“In June 2018, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission granted an electricity generation licence as well as a distribution licence for the market. This will enable the generation and distribution of 9.5 Megawatts of electricity within the market.



“The project is moving smoothly and I have been assured the market will be fully electrified soon. We are working closely with the state government, local government, traditional rulers, market associations and the community on this project to ensure this goal is actualised by the end of the year,” he said.

On security, the president reiterated that the APC-led government would continue to do its best to maintain the sovereign integrity of Nigeria while protecting the livelihoods of its hardworking and honest citizens.

He also underscored the need for elder statesmen, leaders, parents and patriots to continue to guide youths on the path of peace and prosperity while eschewing hateful and divisionary rhetoric.

“We must not shy away from this responsibility. We only have one Nigeria. And we must ensure we hand over a better Nigeria to the next generation,” he said.

In his remarks, Eze Ikonne lauded the president for successes recorded so far since he assumed office in 2015, particularly in the fight against corruption, agricultural revolution, infrastructure development and security.

On infrastructure development in the southeast, the monarch said: “Mr President, I thank you for the massive federal roads rehabilitation going on in the southeast; like the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway, Port Harcourt-Elele-Owerri road, Enugu-Onitsha expressway.


“These roads were death traps for 16 years before you came into office, but today they are wearing new solid looks, though not completed but relief is already there with the level of work done so far.”

The police in Imo State have arrested two members of a child trafficking syndicate.

Parading the suspect and others at the command's headquarters in Owerri on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, said the Ifeoma Chukwu, 30, of Umuobom in Ideato South LGA but resident at Umueze Ndegwu Owerri West LGA, sold her newborn to Angelina Ukaegbu, of Onicha Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, for N130,000.

"On 30/08/2018, operatives of Ogbaku Police Division arrested the above named suspects in connection with child trafficking. The first suspect, Ifeoma Chukwu got pregnant and was delivered of a baby boy.

She subsequently sold the child to the second suspect, Angelina Ukaegbu at the sum of One hundred and thirty Thousand Naira (#130, 000.00). The sum of (#117, 000.00) part of the proceeds of the sale has been recovered as exhibit and investigation is in progress. "

Senator Shehu Sani has advised the new director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, to be cautious of politicians.

The lawmaker gave the advice in a congratulatory message to the new DSS boss via twitter on Friday, September 14.

He also urged the new director general to respect the rule of law, obey court orders, end kidnapping in the country and improve welfare of operatives among others.

An NYSC serving corps member in Abuja who celebrated the death of his father on social media, has come out to state why he thought the passing away of his dad was good news.

Over the past weekend, the story of a members of the NYSC serving in Abuja who mocked the death of own his father by celebrating the demise on social media, emerged online, and was trailed with criticisms and mixed reactions from many social media users.

After the death of his father, he had taken to Facebook to express these rather strange words: “Friday is for CDS….#Abjcoppa….And finally the great devil died last night….. R.I.P my useless father…..Just so happy we all saw ur death…. This is GOODNEWS.”

While speaking in a new interview, the young man identified simply as Victor M Bills, who later deleted this post due to the appeals of his friends, opened up on why he thought the passing away of his dad was good news, and the reason about his obvious happiness at his father’s death

He disclosed that he was in no way sorry about the statements he wrote on Facebook, as his father’s demise was an answered prayer.

According to him, his dad had denied him the essential fatherly love he needed ever since his mother got separated from him about 26 years ago due to an unknown reason.

These were his exact words: “I can’t paint him white when I’m dying inside me. He always laughed and told me I would suffer and die before him. But the reverse is now the case… He wasn’t God.

“He deprived me of fatherly love… And still didn’t wish me well. So his death was a great relief to the family… I’m not regretting anything. My friends asked me to delete the post. But I don’t regret posting it.

“Now I wonder the kind of tribute the children will write for him and what people will know him for other than evil. I just pity him, because even at gunpoint I’ll never agree that he had an atom of love for me.

“He cursed me every time he saw me. We never had a loving time as father and son. I’m not fabricating stories. I’m telling you the truth. Don’t know why he hated me so much.
“Before now, anytime I met new friends I told them my dad was late so that they wouldn’t bring up topics about him. I always talked about my mum. So, when they saw my post about him, they were surprised I had a dad all the while. Even friends from secondary school.

"He didn’t attend his children’s wedding or even wished them well. Rather, he rained curses on them, just to frustrate them. Does such a man deserve to be given a befitting burial? He was heartless and never believed he would die soon.”
However, Victor who hails from Amaraku, Isiala Mbano in Imo State could not but celebrate his mother who took up the responsibility of taking care of him and his three siblings.

He said: “I believe in the strength of thorough womanhood from my mum. I thought about how life would have been if my mother wasn’t hardworking and industrious. What if my mum had hooked up with another man after their separation. What would I have done?"

As for whether he planned to grace the occasion of his father’s burial, the Abuja corps member said he would not only be more than happy to miss the funeral, he would also ensure his siblings and mother do not spare the time to do same.
Towards the end of the chat, Victor said that, with the post he shared on Facebook, he hopes to awaken every parent who treated their children in ill manners due to the fact that they were hurting from the scars meted to them by their spouses.

“Just trying to encourage my peers that if they hate any lass, they shouldn’t transfer their hatred to the children. Too bad that parents do so with belief that certainly the child will forgive them later in life, even after punishing such a child emotionally.”

A man has been arrested and remanded in custody after he allegedly hacked another man to death in Lagos over N200.



A 34-year-old man, Mayowa Olabiyi, was on Wednesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly hacking a man to death over N200.
Olabiyi had appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Mr O.O. Olatunji, on two counts of conspiracy and murder.


His plea was not taken and has been remanded at the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos for the next 30 days.
Olatunji directed that the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.


Earlier, Police Prosecutor, Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on August 26, at 6.30 pm, at No. 23, Irepodun Street, Shangisha, Magodo.
He alleged that the accused and two others now at large, had hacked Akeem Ajilogba, 23, with a matchet during a brawl over N200.


The offences, Adebayo noted, contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 which stipulates death sentence for offenders.
The case has been adjourned to October 11, for the DPP’s advice.

A young man has been assassinated by some gunmen in Owerri, sending family and friends into deep grief.


Family and friends have wept bitterly after a young man was murdered in Owerri.
The young man identified as Kingsley Ekene Iwuoha died after he was attacked and shot dead by some gunmen in Owerri, Imo State capital.


Kingsley more popularly known as Don King has been mourned by many friends who poured out their frustration and heartbreak on Facebook.

One of his friends, Ajuonuma Wilson wrote the heartbreaking post below:

"What would life be without you my brother and my friend?.... I waited so long to do this because I never believed it. I rushed you to the hospital after they attacked us and shot you, the nurses gave me hope, the doctor came and also gave me hope, but after 10mins the doctor told me we lost you.

I cried loudly, thinking my loud cry could reach you and make you come back.
"I stayed with your dead body for over 4 hours, yet you didn't wake up. I declined any option of taking you to the mortuary. I wanted to be with your dead body. Even when I finally took you to the mortuary, I was thinking you will wake up at the entrance door. I didn't leave the mortuary, I was waiting to hear that you woke up.


"The next morning I came with your father, thinking you would see him and wake up. But all was to no avail. It should have been better they took the two vehicles than taking your life. You have been a wonderful friend and brother. My best friend. My gist partner. All our plans are gone....no I will go get them. I assure you Don.
"Farewell my brother. Till we meet to part no more. RIP."

A woman who alleged that her husband was a herbalist and bewitched her with love spell for eight years, has approached a court for the dissolution of their marriage.

A housewife, Abosede Bamgbose, 28, on Wednesday, pleaded with a Badagry Customary Court in Topo Garage to dissolve her marriage, alleging that she was bewitched by her husband, James, for eight years.




Abosede also told the court that there was no longer love in the marriage, adding that a spell was cast on her to win and sustain her love.
“Sometime in the year 2009, I followed my friend to a wedding party at Ajara Topa, Badagry; immediately I saw James, I fell in love with him.


“We dated for two months and I packed my belongings to his residence in Ido-Iroko, Ogun State, without introduction or dowry paid to my parent.
“After two months in his house, I got pregnant without meeting any of his relatives. Four months after the pregnancy, he started beating me for no reason.


“I gave birth to a premature baby which died three days later due to his beatings.
“After the death of my child, the beatings continued to the extent that I fainted one day and I was rushed to the hospital. It was in the hospital that I was told that I was two months pregnant and I had lost it due to the beatings.
“My husband did not visit me in the hospital throughout when I was hospitalised, my parent paid the bills before I was discharged.


“So, when I got better, I packed my belonging and left his house. Since then, I have not seen him and I did not meet his relations.
“James is a herbalist and I know he had put me under a spell when I was living with him, but it is all over now,” she said.
Abosede said that since about eight years that she left James, he had not looked for her.
She begged the court to grant her freedom so that she could marry again, adding that James had abandoned her.


Abosede said that when her husband was served with a court summon, he said he was no longer interested in the relationship.
The respondent was, however, not in court.
The court’s President, Mr Sakirudeen Adekola, adjourned the case till October 18 for judgement.

Last month, 57 suspects were arrested by the police in Lagos on allegations that they were being initiated into homosexuality.

10-man gang that specializes in selling joysticks has been arrested by the police in Kogi State.

In a chat with AIT, they revealed how they killed four local vigilante men and a Police Officer in Ofu LGA during one of their operations .

A disabled Nigerian man Francis Anwana is set to be deported after 34 years in the United States.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Anwana was just 14 years old when he came to the United States on a student visa.

Anwana, who is deaf and cognitively impaired, came to Michigan in the early 80s to attend the Lutheran School for the Deaf.

After he graduated and his student visa expired, several people tried to help Anwana gain citizenship. But because he no longer had a valid visa, he was ineligible to gain legal status.





Now 48, Anwana lives in Detroit at an adult foster care facility, helping mow the lawns and mop the floors at a nearby church.

Last Wednesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Anwana he would be deported on Tuesday, Sept. 11, according to advocates for Anwana. After the advocates raised concerns, ICE told them Friday that his deportation has been postponed. Anwana has a meeting with ICE set for Sept. 21.

In 2006, ICE found out about Anwana’s overstay in the states. An attorney fought for Anwana’s right to claim asylum, but the request was denied, and in 2008, he was ordered to be removed from the country.

In the 10 years since the verdict, Anwana has remained in the United States, living in group homes and creating a community for himself here. Friends and lawyers say he doesn’t completely understand his immigration status because of his disabilities. Nonetheless, they say he has appeared with a caseworker in front of immigration officials each year and complied with their requests.




Diane Newman was Anwana's first teacher at the Lutheran School for the Deaf. Her family took Anwana in for holidays over the years, and in a
Facebook post she put up Thursday evening, she called him an “an adopted and loved member of our family.”

Newman says Anwana would have no opportunities or safety in Nigeria due to his disabilities. She says he was attacked as a child by guerillas, and his arm is still damaged from the event. Newman worries he'll run into similar -- or much worse -- situations if forced to return.

“He's happy here, he's acclimated well, he doesn't cause any problems, and this is the life that he has wanted," she says. "And it would be a travesty... if he had to go back.”

Tania Morris Diaz is a staff attorney at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center. She’s been working on Anwana’s case, and she agrees that returning to Nigeria could be disastrous for him.

“We just believe that sending him back to Nigeria would basically be a death sentence for him as he needs desperately the care of other people,” Morris Diaz said.

Morris Diaz thinks ICE agreed to delay Anwana's deportation because of the short notice and special circumstances his case presents. She emphasized, though, that this is not a complete solution for Anwana. Morris Diaz says MIRC will continue their work with Anwana to keep him from being deported in the future

Given his severe disabilities, it would be a virtual "death sentence" for him, said Susan Reed, an attorney with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center.

Because of his disability, Anwana can only read at a second-grade level and is unable to mentally grasp the fact he could be forced to go back to Nigeria, according to advocates and his lawyer.

"This removal is not imminent at this time," Khaalid Walls, spokesman for the Michigan and Ohio office of ICE, said Friday.

Several years ago, his visa was not renewed because he was often moved around from group homes and caretakers lost track of his case, said local advocates. They repeatedly tried to get him a path to citizenship, but failed. He has no criminal record, advocates say.

Anwana was born in a small village in Nigeria, one of about eight or 10 children, said Newman.

"It was a very loving family," Newman said. "But they understood they would not be able to provide him a life in Nigeria ... as a handicapped person."

After immigrating to the U.S., he was able to learn sign language and lived in Flint for most of his life before moving to Detroit in January to stay at a different group home.

"About a decade ago, someone tried to help him by applying for citizenship," said Reed, the immigration attorney helping him. "He was denied because he was ineligible, placed in deportation proceedings, and finally denied asylum, which he sought based on conditions for people with his condition in Nigeria."

Anwana has been compliant with his orders to show up for regular check-ins. On Tuesday, he was told by ICE to show up the next day again, when he was then told he would have to leave on Sept. 11.

The move stunned longtime immigration advocates who say such an order failed to take into consideration Anwana's unusual circumstances of being disabled, and the fact he has lived in the U.S. for so long.

On Friday, he communicated to the Free Press by sign language through a translator, Sarah Shaw, who has known him for years. The two were students at the school for the deaf in Flint.

"I am happy" living in the U.S., he said. Shaw, who is helping Anwana navigate ICE check-ins, said he is unable to understand what deportation is and his immigration proceedings.

Anwana enjoys soccer and basketball and helping out with chores.

"He's been a model citizen," said Shaw.
Reed said that he "has lived in group homes and supportive environments for many years and won the love and friendship of many, but he has no family in the U.S. His elderly mother in Nigeria has no ability to support him or meet any of his medical needs. He needs medication to manage his conditions."

Fatou-Seydi Sarr, with the African Bureau for Immigration and Social Affairs, said that "with his condition, life in Nigeria will be very, very bad, and can lead to death for not receiving proper medical care."

The Lagos State Police Command has busted a kidnappers' den located at No.15, Irepodun street, Egan, Igando, Lagos, operated by a mother, Aminat Karimu Ajibola, age 60 years and her two sons, Akeem Bashiru, 32 years and Ojo Solomon, 26 years.

A statement released by the state police command spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, says the family is a deadly bunch of kidnappers who thrives by using the social media to lure out their victims and put them in captivity until a ransom is paid.

The trio met their waterloo when one Ms. Bridget Obazee, approached the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Igando Police station, CSP Taiwo Kasumu at about 4pm on Friday September 7th and complained to him that her brother, one Osahon Obazee, has been missing for days and that the kidnappers were threatening to kill him unless they pay a one million, five hundred thousand Naira ( N1, 500,000.00) ransom. She added that they warned her not to involve the police else her brother will be killed.

The DPO quickly contacted the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, who reinforced his team with men drafted from the Intelligence Unit of the Command and together, they left in search of the victim.

Same day, at about 11pm, through discreet investigation, the following suspects were arrested at the aforementioned address, namely, Aminat Kareem Ajibola, a Chief Priestess and custodian of an Ifa shrine, her two sons, Akeem Bashiru and Ojo Solomon.

Also rescued during the operation, were two other victims found in the apartment, namely, Fadugbagbe Akindele, male, of No.7 Peace Crescent Salolo, Meiran, Lagos and one Ekwegbalu Augustine who was lured all the way from Anambra state with the promise of a job placement in an Oil company. They had been held for weeks by the kidnappers pending payment of ransom by their families . All those rescued had been identified and reunited with their relations.

During interrogation, the youngest member of the family of kidnappers, Ojo Solomon confessed that he was able to lure out the victims with the promise of getting them an employment and to some, a gay relationship. While his mother empowers him and his brother spiritually, she uses the charms (Juju) to intimidate and instill fear in their victims.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, today said fake news is the only weapon the opposition can use to fight ainst a performing government like the Buhari-led government. Lai made the comment when he paid courtesy visit to the People’s Daily newspaper in Abuja.

An Instagram model, Kira Mayer, who offered to have sex with traffic policemen in order to evade arrest has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.


Kira Mayer pleaded guilty to attacking a police officer after she was pulled over in her Mercedes in Moscow,
Russia.
The 24-year-old had reportedly offered ‘solo or duet’ sex to police in an attempt to avoid charges, according to law enforcement sources cited by Russian tabloid Komsomolskaya Pravda.

The two male police officers reportedly ‘declined her offer and detained her’ but her plea accepting the charge of assaulting a police officer meant ‘intimate details’ of the case were not aired in court. She told the court;

‘I completely agree with the charge brought against me. ‘I repent and apologise to the victim.’ She later added: ‘When I’m very worried, I get screwed up. But I am trying to control myself.’
According to Russian reports, Mayer lashed out after being stopped by police who discovered she had a previous driving ban.
She was charged with scratching and kicking officers after being told she could not drive further.


Mayer will now serve her 18 months at a low security prison in Russia.
It was reported that Mayer did not expect that she would be sent to jail and wept when the sentence was read out.
Kira Mayer’s lawyer said that he would appeal the verdict. He believed that the influencer-status of his client on Instagram would save her from jail.

She has closed her Instagram account where she had posted a number of photos and videos, gaining 148,000 followers.

An Instagram user, @vassolars, has taken to the platform to narrate how he met a physically challenged man identified as Chima who goes out everyday to source for his own means of livelihood instead of resorting to begging and depending on others to make ends meet.

According to him, Chima’s dedication to his job as a bus conductor despite having only one leg, caught his attention, adding that since there was little he could do, he got Chima a phone and a SIM card in order to enable well meaning Nigerians reach out to him.

He shared a short video clip of Chima and wrote:

“Guys, I entered a bus to Ikeja the other day and this conductor was hopping and working with one leg. No crutches. Still he chose not to beg but work. It got me thinking.

BBC news presenter Rachael Bland has died aged 40 just two days after bidding “au revoir” to her friends, revealing she only had days left to live having been diagnosed with cancer in 2016.
The journalist who had been at the BBC for more than 15 years, has been widely praised for the You Me and The Big C podcast following her breast cancer treatment.


Her family confirmed that she had died this morning shortly after 3am, and Bland’s husband Steve told the BBC “Rachael’s death has left a huge hole in our perfect little family that we’ll never be able to fill.


“She was an incredibly talented broadcaster as well as a wonderful and much-loved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, wife and, most importantly to her, a mother to her precious little Freddie.
“We all take such huge comfort and pride from the amazing and tireless work she has done since her diagnosis to reduce the stigma around cancer and prove that it is possible to live life to the fullest even when facing huge challenges on a daily basis. At the end, even though her body was at its weakest, her voice was at its strongest and most powerful.

“Rachael was and will always be an incredible inspiration to everyone she met. To us, she was perfect in every way and we will miss her more than words can say.

“We just ask that everyone respects our family’s privacy as we try and come to terms with losing our beautiful girl.”

A Russian boy reportedly beheaded himself with a chainsaw after losing at a computer game.
Pavel Mateev, 15, from Tomsk region, went into his yard on Monday morning, September 3, before he "switched on a chainsaw and sawed off his own head."


Russian media cited local sources saying that he was addicted to a computer game that his single mother had bought for him. It is unclear what computer game he was playing before he killed himself, but a female source said Pavel spent hours at his computer and that his "nerves gave in after a game".


The local office of the Russian Investigative Committee gave no further details on Pavel’s case except to confirm a criminal case had been opened into incitement to suicide.

Several teenagers in the north-central part of Nigeria, Nasarawa State have shockingly tested positive to HIV/AIDS. About 1,086 out of 75, 435 young Nigerians between the ages of 14 and 19, who were counselled and tested for HIV/AIDS in Nasarawa State, have been confirmed to be carrying the deadly virus.



The Executive Director, Nasarawa State AIDS Control Agency, Dr. Ruth Adabe, disclosed this on Sunday during a one-day workshop organised by the United Nations International Children’s Fund, in conjunction with the National Orientation Agency, in the Keffi Local Government Area of the state. Speaking during the event, Adabe, who was represented by Dr.

Peter Attah of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, suggested strategies to end the HIV/Aids epidemic. They include the establishment of youth-friendly centres, HIV /Aids consulting and testing units and the prevention of PMTCT in the state. She called for cooperation with the Nasarawa HIV/AIDS and STIs Control Programme in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

She blamed risky behaviour on the part of the youth for the upsurge in the prevalence of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases in the state. Adabe also said that it was imperative for all stakeholders supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS in the state to meet with the youth and discuss how to educate the general public on the epidemic.

She said, “In 2016, about 240,000 adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19, were living with the diseases, thereby making up seven per cent of the total number of people living with the virus in Nigeria. “HIV prevalence among this age group varies regionally, with 4.3 per cent of 15-19-year-olds living with HIV in the South-South, compared to 1.3 per cent in the South-East. “Health outcomes for adolescents living with HIV in Nigeria are poor.

This is the only country in the world where mortality in 10 – 14-year-olds is rising. “Young women have a higher HIV prevalence and are infected earlier in life than men of the same age group. “In 2016, more than 46,000 young women were infected with HIV, compared to 33,900 young men.

“Reports from a 2017 National Health Survey showed that only 29 per cent of women and 27.9 per cent of men between the ages of 15 and 24 could correctly identify ways of preventing sexual transmission of HIV, as well as reject major myths around transmission,” she said. The executive director called for an effective strategy to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. She urged indigenes and other people living in the state to go for regular HIV counselling and testing.
