xpmode: Following the drama that ensued the investigation of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by the House of Reps committee yesterday, Professor Pondei will not appear before the committee any more. Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday, said the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Professor Kemebradikumo Pondei, will no longer appear before the House of Representatives panel probing him and the agency’s Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Speaking after Professor Pondei was taken to a hospital after he fainted at the probe venue, Gbajabiamila directed the panel to use documents he already tendered to the panel to reach its conclusion.
Recall that Professor Pondei, collapsed while he was being grilled by the panel over allegations bordering on financial recklessness.

Politics / Re: Pondei Ignored Doctors' Advice To Attend Hearing - NDDC by Niaja4real(m): 10:10pm On Jul 20, 2020 |
SamuelOamen: The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has explained that its acting Managing Director, Prof. Keme Pondei, collapsed at the National Assembly because he ignored his doctors' advice on his state of health.
A statement signed by the Director, Corporate Affairs, Charles Odili, said Pondei has been ill for the past two weeks but that his condition deteriorated Monday morning necessitating his doctors to advise him against attending the hearing.
Odili said: "The commission wishes to disclose that Prof Pondei has been ill for the past two weeks. This morning, his condition deteriorated, and his doctors advised against attending the hearing.
"However, he ignored his doctors’ advice because of the realisation that his traducers will use his absence at the hearing to soil his name and reputation. He thought he could make it through the hearing and take care of his health later. As it turned out, his doctors were right. Prof Pondei is in a stable condition at a clinic in Abuja."
Odili said that Pondei assumed office on February 20, 2020 and by May 5, the two arms of the National Assembly ordered a probe of his tenure, two third of which was spent under COVID-19 lockdown conditions.
He noted that following his position, Pondei, has an official duty to answer for the activities of the commission and what happened between 2008 – 2012 "which is the subject of another hearing based on the auditor general’s report for the period.”
He said: "It would, however, be unfair to hold him personally liable for acts which took place when he was not the head of the Commission. When the two arms of the National Assembly called for a probe, it was over a missing N40bn. The Commission took the rare step of publishing all payments made by it under Prof Pondei. No organisation in Nigeria, public or private has ever got to that level of transparency in our national history.
"As this publication undermined the claims of his accusers, the subject of the public hearing changed to ‘financial recklessness’. While this might appear insignificant, it amounted to changing the goal posts to smear a clean man. While misappropriation of N40bn is a matter demanding objective proof, the question of financial recklessness is one open to subjective judgement.
"The Commission is delighted that Olubunmi Ojo, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC has recused himself from the hearing. At the end of the day, everyone has to answer for his role in the misappropriation of the resources of the Commission.
"It is this search for answers that led President Muhammadu Buhari, on the request of the nine governors of the region, to institute a forensic audit to probe what happened to the resources of the Commission from 2001 to date.
"The Prof Pondei led IMC has committed to the success of that exercise. While we thought there will be a fight back by those who dipped their hands in the cookie’s jar, we never expected this level of boldness and malevolent aggression as witnessed by accusers at hearing and their paid agents through all the media platforms.
"The Commission is participating at the hearing, even though it thinks that seeing to the conclusion of the forensic audit will serve the future of the Commission and the Niger Delta region more than the probe of 74 days of activities.”

dboss12: Akwa Ibom Phase 2 Ex- Militants Forum of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme has thrown its weight behind the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Goodwill Akpabio . The group in a statement by its Leader , Comrade Imoh Stephen Okoko , urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to heed to calls for his removal . Okoko argued that attacks on Akpabio were being masterminded by ethnic iredentists in the Niger Delta region. The group stressed that they would no longer stand by and watch their son who was appointed to wipe the tears of the people of the zone suffer further threats and humiliations . The statement read thus: “ Akwa Ibom Phase 2 Ex -Militants Forum of the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme condemns in all ramifications recent threats and calls by some Niger Delta groups and individuals for the removal of the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio to pave the way for a transparent probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission. “ This is not the first time , some individuals from some ethnic nationalities within the region, would be asking for Senator Akpabio ’ s removal . It will be recalled that in the latter part of last year, the same groups had accused the Minister of masterminding the movement of the NDDC from the Presidency to the Ministry of the Niger Delta as well as unilaterally appointing an Interim Management Committee, IMC to run the affairs of the Commission during the period of the probe. “ After a careful analysis of the various reasons advanced by the protesting individuals and groups, we wish to state that these calls are all laden with ethnic sentiments and therefore leave much to be desired. The display of parochial interests above the general well -being of the region by those who are supposed to work together towards the positive development of the region is one major reason why the Niger Delta has remained very backward and largely underdeveloped despite the large chunk of funds sunk into it. “ We wish to say that the calls for Senator Akpabio ’ s removal is simply because he is an Akwa Ibom State indigene and not necessarily that he has committed any offence . On our part, we totally reject the call for the Minister’ s removal , but rather commend the President for making the best choice for the Ministry of the Niger Delta. “ It is very sad that the people of Akwa Ibom State have always been treated as second class citizens on issues relating to the development of the region . It is on record that on creation of the Niger Delta Ministry , the appointment of the erstwhile Secretary to the Government of the Federation ( SGF ) under Chief Obasanjo ’ s government , Obong Ufot Ekaette, of blessed memory, as pioneer Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, was greeted with protests from the Ijaws and other ethnic groups in the region based on flimsy and unsubstantiated reasons, just because he was from Akwa Ibom State . His successor at the Ministry , Mr Godday Orubebe , who was Obong Ekaette’ s Minister of State at the time , was however hailed despite his seeming poor performance because he is an Ijaw man . “ The pioneer NDDC ’ s Executive Director, Projects , late Engr . Udo Mboso was protested against , likewise Mr Nsima Ekere , the immediate -past NDDC Managing Director. It has been noted that despite Akwa Ibom State being the highest oil producer in the country, our people have always been discriminated against in areas of appointments to top positions in the region. For instance, while other ethnic nationalities are taking charge of the leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme , our State is being marginalized and not carried along in the activities of the Amnesty Programme . “ It is, therefore very uncivilized for these groups to call on President Buhari to sack the Minister for no just cause . For the avoidance of any doubt, since the inception of the Niger Delta Development Commission, it is the office of the SGF that had been officially supervising the Commission, until 2015 when the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was mandated to supervise the operations of the Commission. If the Office of the SGF ( the then NDDC ’ s Supervisor) was not accused of being part of the corrupt practices allegedly perpetrated in the Commission, it therefore becomes suspicious and amounts to a display of ethnic sentiments in its highest form to accuse Senator Akpabio who is not yet one year old in the office of being part of the Commission’ s corruption scheme and asking him to step down as he is capable of influencing the outcome of the probe . “ We , therefore , warn all those calling for the head of Senator Akpabio for a crime he has not committed purely because of ethnic differences to desist forthwith as any further attack on the Minister shall be met with stiff resistance and unpleasant reactions . We also advise the Presidency not to yield to pressure from any individual or group calling for the Minister’ s removal as we shall no longer fold our arms and watch other ethnic nationalities victimize our innocent people . We have already started mobilizing our people against any further attacks and embarrassment on His Excellency , Senator Godswill Akpabio . ” It's finished. A country where militants have a forum and could come out boldly to identify with it own is as useless as a banana republic. Next time, it will be, forum of boko haram, forum of bandits, forum of kidnappers, forum of Yahoo Yahoo boys, forum of armed robbers etc. |

Showbby28: President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmed Lawan, has begun underground moves to contest the 2023 Presidential election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to Sahara Reporters, top sources within the APC disclosed that this ambition was one of the reasons why Lawan nominated Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State as Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee of the party.
It was gathered that Buni’s nomination had put Lawan in a strong position as one of the major contenders for the presidential ticket of the APC should the party decide to make the contest for its ticket open to candidates from every zone of the country.
SaharaReporters claimed it was reliably informed that consultations were ongoing among major stakeholders in the party to make Lawan’s goal to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in office a reality.
“Lawan is making moves for presidency in 2023 and this may be his first ambition in that direction.
“He is a proponent of North-East producing the next President and that is his agenda if the zoning favours the region.
“Though there are divergent views in the party as many are pushing for it to be zoned to the South,” the source said.
Meanwhile , when contacted by THE NIGERIA DAILY, Media Adviser to the Senate President, Ola Awoniyi, said talks of his principal eyeing the President’s position in 2023 was mere speculation.
Leadership of the APC declined to comment on the issue when contacted by our correspondent.
