why is There a huge pressure on people to look perfect, it has become alot worse as women now have the airbrushed supermodel to compare to. Although men have never had as much pressue as women to look good, they have to try a little harder these days, with waxing, wearing making, hair products,beautiful people are more successful and the pressure is on! Botox injections, and plastic surgery have become the order of the day. you hardly see a woman now, who is not cover in makeup. why is society so Obsessed with Looks? ~Hang on a Minute,wasnt it the same "Society" that placed emphasis on "Looks" and became obsessed w/ the Importance of "Outer Beauty" rather than "Inner Beauty" !!. . . Made Judgements or Treat the Not-So-Pretty differently? ~So Some succum to the pressures. . .seeking Perfection at any given moment,wudnt blink to spend as much as they can to achieve "The Perfect" look. . i dont blame them. . Damn if you do,Damn if you dont!! ~Yeah some folks will say "I Care More About Inner Beauty Than Outer Beauty Yadi Yada Ya" But who are we fooling really? Looks Does Really Matter And "Society" favours Attractiveness! ~Anywho,for me the Need To look good hasnt taken on A Life On Its Own I love to look good! Sue Me!  ~Me think there's enuff room for The Natural Beauties ~Not Obsessed And The Obsessed to all roam about in "Society"! ~Here are some Factors i think contribute to why Folks cud be obsessed w/ looks,depending on the Individual/State of Mental Mind Or the suitation they fond themselves in. . .needless to say each Individual differs soOooo. . . . ~Emotioonal Insecurities :Low Self-Esteem ~Scared To Be Perceived Otherwise ~Self-Interest:Self-Centered: Births Obsession! ~Seeking Perfection/Acceptance In A Professional/Personal Capicity :Looks/Interaction/Making An Impression ~Vanity: One Of The Cardinal Sins Of Man ~Trying To Hard To Fit IN:Seeeking Approval from M8's/Family/Spouse/BF/GF/Strangers ~BDD Sufferers:Body Dysmorphic Disorder believe that they are so unattractive and unacceptable to others that they even avoid social interaction for fear of being ridiculed: The BDD sufferer will undergo repeated surgery. Many sufferers may have over 50 procedures done and still feel that they are inherently ugly and unacceptable, both to themselves and others. |

Research had shows that attractive people have more occupational success and more dating experience than their unattractive counterparts, so you can see why people especially the female folks are so obsessed on their outward appearance |

If you can't beat them, then you join 'em, right? Of course attractiveness should be appreciated, it's not a bad thing now, is it? Besides I don't think only artificial beauty is appreciated. I'm sure if one is beautiful w/o the plastic surgeries, liposuction and stuff, society will appreciate one even more. PS: I don't think make-up should be categorized in the same manner as plastic surgery. |

not so very well said, i'm afraid. a person may look pretty on the outside with the help of all the beauty treatments available even going under the knife but still feel very ugly and dirty inside. it is the inside that counts, sister. |

It is in our genes to be obsessed with looks. We biologically want a mate that looks like she possess good genes and the way we judge this is by symmetry of the physical body. If you see a crooked mouth girl with 11/2 leg you will not want to date her, it is not an unnatural reaction. Civilisation trys to tell us to look to inner beauty but it is not easy and we tend to revert to our instincts. 1 Like |
