What do you think about Genevieve Nnaji in the singing profession?

Genevieve Nnaji, the beautiful and charming born-actress, has added a feather to her cap by singing [releasing an album]. Do you think she would be as well known in her new profession as the previous one?

I think she is cool. Just check her out! She could do with some modest clothing though.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by razor(m): 4:04pm On May 26, 2005
I wonder if Genevieve ever sought advice before embarking on singing. Now that she has done this, l think PMAN should get her sanctioned for embarrasing the association with her songs. Nigerian music should not be an all-comers affair. Genevieve should stick to acting.

:PRazor, aba why do you have to ridicle that girl like,i think i prefer her singing than acting. she actually look cool in that her album.Isn't it?
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by Seun(m): 4:50pm On May 26, 2005
Yes, she looks cool, but does she sound cool?

Frankly speaking, Genevieve Nnaji's album is probably as a result of the Nigerian movie marketers' ban on herself and the other highly paid actors. If Genevieve had been busy acting in Nollywood and getting paid handsomely, she would not have had time to record this album.

Wack, wack, and a double wack album.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by mosiate(f): 12:42pm On May 27, 2005
Seun, why do you have to join razor on this issue? Genevieve is the bomb. She's actually somebody hailed by everybody, just as tuface is being hailed. Just watch out! rolleyes

i thought she is creative in all she does.i never knew she was that local, precisely her vocal is too local.she should go learn tailoring instead of running her mouth saying all sorta shit about mahn.

To be honest, I was disappointed in her. The album was rubbish. sad

The problem with Genevieve Nnaji releasing an album is this: she's a star actor, but in music she's a novice. So there is no way her first album will satisfy people who have been used to getting the best performance from her; there's no way it would not fall short.

I am not dissapointed in the album. I didn't expect it to be anything special, so I was not dissapointed. It's not only in Nigeria that popular actresses make the mistake of going into music (for example, the young american actress Lindsay Lohan is guilty of one woeful album, too tongue)

What makes their albums so "bad" is this: the albums are average, but our expectations are so high. We expect the best from Genevieve but the album was just average, therefore we are not happy!
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by jogego(m): 3:18pm On May 30, 2005
The major problem with Nigerian artistes, actors etc is that much like in everything, the nigeiran factor is thrown in. If Genieveve thot she was a good singer, why on earth was she into acting b4? Nigeria is the country that knowing someone gets u a record deal, not the fact that u can sing. That in my opinion is why there are so much second rate artistes in Nigeria.

We need to tell ourselves the truth. If we wont, who will? If you can only sing underneath a shower like me, what on earth are u doing recording a CD? rolleyes

Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by whizkid(f): 11:13am On May 31, 2005
I thought her music was rubbish, no offence. I think the record company is just using her, trying to sell her face and fame. If not why did they sign her on, even a deaf man knows she doesn't sing well.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by monica(f): 11:55am On May 31, 2005

I have not heard her songs. Is she the Nollywood version of Jennifer Lopez?
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by Seun(m): 8:28pm On May 31, 2005
No. Because, you see, she's an actress and not a musician. J Lo is first of all a musician and then an actor.

On the other hand, Genevieve Nnaji is the hottest name in Nigerian Entertainment.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by bunmijoseph(f): 10:03pm On May 31, 2005
Why are you all dissing Genevieve ? What's wrong with her music? Probably most of you have personal beef for her.

I'm not saying her music is fantastic but it's not that bad. Haba, Nigerians, relax now! She's trying. Ride on Genevieve, you will get there. wink
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by bootysue(f): 11:16am On Jun 02, 2005
Bless you, Trish, for your sincere comment. I really do not think our lovely looking Genevieve sought advice before embarking on her journey into singing.

First of all Genevieve has paid her dues in acting- cool, thumbs up for her. But singing? Hell No, it ain't going to fly! Most actresses sing and obviously can then act but rarely vise versa.

Secondly I have tried without success to classify this music of hers but can't find a category for it. Can anyone help? Maybe then I can begin to appreciate it. (I wish)

Not being cheeky but it ain't a day's job to be Stella Damasus.

I don't understand why people judge others about their singing and acting. If you can do better just do it and let us see.

You definitely can't judge Genevieve because she is a great singer and actress and she is the best thing Africans can get. I mean she has enquied a lot in a short time and I think we should be proud of her because she is the talk for a lot of people in Africa and Europe, especially Ghanians.

I think she is doing great and she will also be successful in the singing as the acting. Just don't give up, girl, because you have not finished inspiring us.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by delarontus(f): 5:47pm On Jun 02, 2005
@Monica: Most Nigerians in the entertainment industry are stars before Ghanians [apologies to Ghanians] that's why she went there in the first place. They trip over our movies, music and fashion so its no wonder she is a hotcake there.

Nevertheless, she cannot earn a living from singing!
Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by JustBlaze1(m): 11:43pm On Jun 02, 2005
I know good music when i hear one but what went through my mind when i first saw Genevieve's music video was WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING. I can comfortably say it;s the worst song I've heard in a long ass time.

Someone please tell her not to give up the day job just yet ;-)

Re: Genevieve Nnaji in the Music Profession? by jogego(m): 11:26am On Jun 03, 2005
Now this is going to make a lot of people angry but as the elders dem dey talk, the truth dey bitter. Now to serious talk. The major problem with Nigerians is that we always celebrate mediocrity. Ever sat down and wondered why Nigerian artistes dont make it big abroad? And am not talking about going to Berlin, Toronto etc and playing to a hall of Nigerians who spray $$ and ££. I mean to actually have radio play, sell Cds and be reckoned with by the international society and not Ghana. Fela did it. Sunny Ade did it. So its not impossible. We have other African artistes well known and respected. Jonathan Butler, Miriam Makeba, Manu Dibango. Granted they all made it happen years ago, but if they did it, artistes nowadays can too.

It is in Nigeria that you see someone who has only one song to his name said song released in 1987 or earlier(not mentioning names)and when they call musician, him/her self will raise hand. Now anybody who TRULY loves music will tell you that a lot of the Nigerian musicians dont have any voice to write home about. A lot of them dont even play any instrument, cant even read sheet music blah blah blah. Now this in itslef doesnt a musician make after all I doubt if Eminem can read sheet music. But then he is good at what he does which is Rap pure and simple.

THe truth is very bitter and up until we realise that the world is a global vilage and start viewing ourselves against the best in the business, then we wont make any headways. I dont think the problem is with Genieve per se, it is the music industry. How can any music producer worth his salt put Genieve in a studio to record if its not that they want to milk the image and make money. She herself, she no talk true to herself. I know my limitations and will not make a fool out of myself doing what I know I aint good at. FOr what its worth, am sure people close to her listened to the songs b4 release and true to Naija fashion, didnt tell her the truth which is my dear, your singing stinks.

Now that is my 2 cents worth. Contrary or similar views welcome

hope u dont mind me asking monica but what planet are u from? shocked

perhaps u have already seen the edited version of genevieve's song, tell us then maybe what we listened to/ watched was the first attemp that has now been taken as the original or betterstill, a plagiarized version.

common let this girl know the truth so she can improve, we all know she's a star in acting, but with that song, she wouldnt even get anywhere with the most accommodating louis walsh (x-factor).
u are not her sister are you?
