The Nigeria Water Project by LadyT(f): 12:48am On Oct 17, 2010
Hi everyone,

I have been thinking for a long time about the state of our country.  I am the first to abuse our useless leaders who steal from us and have ruined Nigeria to the state it currently is in.

So whats the point in complaining why not do something?  I thought long and hard its madness that we have to import food yet we have surplus land to farm.  We supply Ghana electricity yet we dont have light? And ofcourse many people still lack clean safe water or they need to walk miles to get to water.

So why not start a charity they say every little helps and I beleive we have the brains and the power (moneywise) to make something happen.  If our leaders wont fix our country lets do it ourselves.

I thought about starting a charity that puts borholes in rural villages nothing fancy something that is easy to maintain.  I think it costs roughly £1000 I would like input from you guys on what we can do to better our country could be anything.  I think if we all collectivly made really small donations Im talking £1 or $1 we could really make a difference.

Instead of just sitting behind computer screens lets really put the amount of wisdom I have seen on here into action.

Great idea Lady T. I hope everyone will chip in with knowledge and money. Given that this is supposedly the largest Nigerian website, it's a great place for us to take collective action in our own little way.
Re: The Nigeria Water Project by SweetT1: 1:54am On Oct 17, 2010
I'm in total support of Lady T's idea. Most Nigerians will be worse than the leaders they blame if they get a chance. We rely too much on the Government to do this, to do that. Citizens of most developed nations do for others and their community by giving to homeless shelters, local hospitals or volunteer to donate blood at a local clinic. Nigerians do nothing but complain, change Nigeria in your own little way by helping others. Help could be in the form of old clothes, shoes or toys for needy kids.

Thanks Sweet T can you give more info on sending donations to these hospitals etc?

Easy, if you are in Nigeria, go to a local hospital and ask the doctors and nurses on how you can give money to kids or their parents who cannot afford their medical bills. They will take you to the ward with these kids and you can choose the kids to help. And if you are overseas, you can send the money thru loved ones to give to the clinics. I know that you can also call UCH and other hospitals to find out the best ways they for them to accept donations. Homeless shelters are all over lagos, Ibadan and Benin. i'm not sure of other cities.

a fact still remains fact whether or not it was intended to score points. . .i trust NL, someone can come on this thread and rant and rave about how ghana has constant electricity which we supply them and we dont. . .

If all good-doers have the fear of one thing or the other, nothing will get done. If you really intent to help there are many ways to get help directly into the hands of the ones intended.
Re: The Nigeria Water Project by spikedcylinder: 3:45am On Oct 17, 2010
Great idea Lady T. Full support from me whenever needed. I think the cost of constructing a borehole for an entire village will be higher than 1000GBP though.

Im willing to do whatever, question is we'll have to find out how to set this up and what can be done to make sure it reaches their target and not get squandered by selfish morons.

There can't be only one location tho.

If you want this project to be successful, I suggest we have atleast 3 sponsors located in ; Nigeria, Europe, America.  Even tho the main project will be taking off in Nigeria, these sponsors will keep the donations and stuff in check and inspire participants from abroad to participate and stay interested.

Titi, find a place, hospital or shelter that needs help the most and we can all direct our efforts to that or divide the help towards a number of projects. I pledge $200 for the first project. If it all goes well we can make it a lil'. Larger. Let me know when, where and how.

@sweet T,
what is wrong is observing and correcting ur sister or brother even in such a polite manner? this is my problem with a typical nigerian.
we are more idealistic than realistic. everybody is saying yes, yes and yes. we will do it is the chorus here but when and how?

@poster,
i am sorry if i am going to sound very different from others here. what u have mentioned here is idealistically kool but in action, it is perfectly impossible.
be reminded that whenever there is a gathering of 5 or more ppl, there is always a need for a leader and if what u have mentioned here will get to a point where a leader will be needed, the story will end there. we are doomed in the area of leadership. 99.99% of everybody saying yes here are ready to kill just to be in charge of the finance of the said charity organisation.
i tell u what, look arround u, ur family, kindred, relatives or even the nearest person to u, see how u can touch and bless his/her life. the idea of water supply to ur ppl is a good one but remember u must not think u have supporters. be alone in it and pray that God will give u the resources and wisdom to go about it.
this is my submission.

We don't need any hyperventilating or overanalyzing, you either put up or shut up. There is a thread where you can bark all day long. If you want to be a part of this pledge something or bounce!  If you have never done such a thing before, it will be strange to you. Some of us make it an habit to give back whenever possible. go to a any hospital when you are at home or send it to someone you know that will deliver. We are not trying to overthrow Nigerian Govt. we are only trying to give back in areas that needs it. GOSH!

Cost of a borehole in a village is more dn 1000GBP. But if u mean Dts ur Target for d donation dn start considering other things. I can recommend villages n hospitals or charity homes u can choose from. And I can volunteer to supervise d project.

Re: The Nigeria Water Project by LadyT(f): 5:27pm On Oct 17, 2010
Some great suggestions already it won't be one location but we need to start somewhere. I was thinking setting up a paypal account for donations. But money is minor actually I'm sure it will pour in. It's how we can sent it out and make sure people will benefit and no one lines their pockets. I really like Sweet T's hospital idea. It's non profit so I don't think we need a boss only for us to manage it and supervise the work.

Let's have some faith in our people I think it's something we can do and do well.

Another thing you could do is find one/more of our NL programmers/geek to coordinate a site for the WP, so that we can know  the budget, where the money goes and basically get updates on the service.

And cncerning this project, Aisha is already on this path, it would make sense to work with her. She's already donating, helping etc, she knows the locations and the "how-to", get one of the moderators to contact her.

Love the ideas Ileke-idi can you get Aisha to post here so I can talk to her. I was thinking of doing a video diary or picture diary, so people can see what we are doing and where their money is going.

WOW this is crazy I was just doing research and I have seen other Charity called THE WATER PROJECT but they dont do stuff in Nigeria but WATER AID is in nigeria is this what Aisha is involved in?

I dont think that should stop us though. We can still do something!

Yes, I'd try to get aisha on this thread.

No, I'm not saing we should put your IDs to an abrupt, simply saying that since aisha has worked/is still working in this idea sector, we can try to get her to help us out in terms of location.

Please, def dont stop, we need to do all we can.

Not sure what organization aisha is involved in, but this is her site http://www.lsfnigeria.org/
