President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde as the Acting Chairman/Chief Executive of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in a statement siged by the presidential Adviser on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati Ph.D.

The appointment takes immediate effect, and effectively relieves Mrs. Farida Waziri of her position as EFCC Chairman. Mrs. Waziri was appointed EFCC Chairman by Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on May 18, 2008 and confirmed by the Senate on May 27, 2008.

Mr. Lamorde, an officer of the Nigeria Police, was, until this appointment the Director of Operations of the EFCC. He was also Ag. Chairman of the EFCC before Mrs. Waziri assumed duty at the Commission.

She should have been sacked a long time ago.She brought so much ineptitude and incompetence into that anti-graft body and elevated mediocrity to the zenith.She single_handedly rubbished the effort of her predecessor and reversed 6 years of progressive war against corruption,all in just a month! She should be brought to justice,tried and humiliated.

GEJ should also fire that pseudo_economist called sanusi.The man has also done incalculable damage to our economy and he should be sacked asap

Though she had some faults, the judiciary remains the greatest obstacle to the fight against corruption in this country as I am typing now. The courts have not convinced me that they can give Nigerians hope on fighting corruption. The few criminals/looters taken to court by EFCC have not been tried satisfactorily.

The judiciary is our main problem in fighting corruption, not EFCC.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday sacked the Chairman of
the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri.

Her sacking was contained in a statement by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati. No reason was given for her removal.

The agency's Director of Operations, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, was directed to take over immediately.
Jonathan has been under pressure to remove Waziri over her perceived poor performance.

Incidentally, when she was appointed on May 18, 2008 by the late President Umaru Yar'Adua, she took over from Lamorde, who was appointed in an acting capacity after Mallam Nuhu Ribadu as EFCC chairman in controversial circumstances.

@freezy,I strongly disagree with you on the above.Lamorde,to me I'l definitely do a good job going by his antecedents, he was ribadu's vice when the war on corruption became a pain in the ass for all those corrupt politicians and he had to be excused by yar_adua when the hatchet job against ribadu was implemented.One thing an certain of is this,lamorde I'l do a better job than that fart,skanky and incompetent waziri.

President Goodluck Jonathan has unexpectedly fired the head of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
A spokesman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said Wednesday that chairwoman Farida Waziri had been fired. Spokesman Femi Babafemi said Waziri had at least another year left in her tenure.
Babafemi says agency deputy Ibrahim Lamurde has been appointed acting chairman. He said he did not know the president’s reason for firing Waziri.
Waziri and a presidential spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment.
Waziri has been criticized by U.S. diplomats in leaked cables for being unprepared and for apparently being controlled by politicians. Others have leveled corruption allegations against her and operatives of the commission, though none have been proven. Farida has been less than a shadow of the previous anti-corruption czar Nuhu Ribadu who was removed by former President Yar’ Adua to prevent same from trying his friends.
Meanwhile reactions are already trailing the sack. Professor Pat Utomi post thus on his facebook page:

i have a feeling that this new EFCC angel wont make any difference.if am to believe waziri was sacked because of her cospiracy with Sylva then, this new efcc boss has just been appointed to obey orders and not to fight corruption.He is still acting though

if you know how it works here, u will agree with me that nigeria can boast of federal thieves, state thieves and local govt thieves.
under the much talked about ribadu, we heard of local and state thieves who were jailed but non of the federal political thieves was jailed but this woman was able to jail a federal thief in the name of bode george so i credit her for that.
many of us here are calling for her probe and i ask myself, where are you from? what kind of brain system are using?
who probed ribadu? who investigate ribadu? this same jonathan cancelled all charges and cases established against ribadu and granted him presidential pardon and we were all deaf and dumb then only to turn talkatives now that a woman is involved.
shame to us nigerians as we live the lives of hypocrites and partial judges.
i know many of us were expecting another ribadu that will over look our main criminals and continue making noise on tvs and radios.
