At first, they just delayed the payment, nothing really as excuse. As time went by and I started pushing for it, they sent mail apologising that they had a lot of refunds to do and that's why it was taking time to do mine. After then they sent me a receipt that they've initiated the refund but the bank didn't process it, I checked with the bank and there was no issue. Since then it's been one excuse or the other or even silent treatment. Recently reached out again and they sent mail that they'll process it soon but it's taking too long for me.
What is their refund policy? If you don’t know, go read their website. After reading, quote relevant points in the refund policy in a mail (strongly worded) stating that you will escalate the issue if it is not resolved within a week.

Please I need your help. I got admission at Dorset college earlier this year, paid tuition fee but visa rejected. I've initiated tuition refund since then since there was no way forward with the visa rejection. It's been over 6 months now and they are yet to refund me. Please how can I go about this?
Hi. What is their excuse for the delay in refunding you?

Hi. The explanation on your refusal letter differs from the story you have narrated above. Your narrative is laced with how you feel about the decision. That’s secondary anyway.

It is unfortunate they slammed a 5 years ban on you. But in a way, you didn’t put in the work required in your application it seem. If I am not mistaken, some information you furnished them with in your previous application that was refused might be different from this one that led to a ban.

Again, emphasis is on your finance. That you own a company doesn’t mean all the resources of the company is available for your use. Are you saying the company won’t need money to run if you use its cash to pursue education in Ireland?

For now, I won’t advice you to get a lawyer. Because it will cost you more money and the outcome is not guaranteed. Head or tail, the lawyer will collect his or her money.

If you know your application was not evaluated justly, go ahead to write a letter to address every point raised in this refusal letter and send to the Minister of Justice in Dublin, Ireland. Given that you have been told you can’t appeal this current decision. Part of your prayers in the letter should be for the ban to be upturned and a right of appeal given to you on this particular application. Note that your must write a compelling letter devoid of error.

PS: if you know you have misrepresented any facts about your application, don’t bother yourself with pursuing things any further. I hope this helps. Cheers.

Hi everyone, please for those who have visited UK from Ireland, know someone who has, or lived there before moving, please help me answer this.

So I recently moved to Ireland from Nigeria for work, but have lived in UK for a long time (8+ years) and would like to go to UK to visit friends. I understand I may need a visit visa for that. How do I apply for a UK visit visa from Ireland as a Nigerian and how long would the process take? Costs? And also how many months/years visa do you think I would get on it?
Hello. Most of the information you need can be found online. Generally, you apply through TLS in Dublin 9. Submit an online application, pay the fees and then book an appointment for biometrics and submission of your documents. How long it takes is dependent on whether you are applying for standard, priority or super priority visa. Note that the decision period of each visa category is stated on their website. In addition, given the number of years you have previously lived in the UK, it is not out of place if you apply for 5 years or even 10 years visit visa. Your current status in Ireland could make a difference on the length of years you can get. Cheers.

Hello gurus,

Thank you for all the information you've made available here.

Please I am a crossroad. I have an offer from a UK school but with the recent update about FSW, I'm also considering Canada. My score on CRS is 476 and I believe that I'm well positioned for this.

Can I still move to the UK and continue the Canadian application from there or will it be impossible?
Hi. Of course, you can move to the UK and carry on with your Canada PR process. Location is a non issue in this case.

If you ask me, finance and and your current schedule is what should shape your decision at this point. Finance because paying international student fees in UK won’t come cheap, while at the end, you will likely move to Canada when your PR is approved - going by the CRS score you have stated.

On current schedule, what I mean is - what you currently do. Are you meaningfully engaged in Nigeria (job or business) that can help you wait out PR application process. If yes, I believe it is better you concentrate on PR especially if you don’t have the resources to go the study route in the UK. Especially with the notice that all program draws will resume on July 6. Who knows, you might even get ITA on that day.

Nonetheless, it is your call to make. But note that it is much faster to become a PR in Canada than UK. Cheers.

Good morning guys...
So i have an issue. I am presently in Dublin at the moment. The problem is, on arriving here, my faculty school said i should defer my admission to September because the last day for someone to attend in-person classes has passed. Mind u, i had not received any prior mail to that effect until the day i was in the airport. i already paid and checked in. Now my visa expires next month and the school is not doing anything. New admission letter will be issued in June. My visa expires in may.. How do i go about this please anyone in the house?
Hello, was there no start date on your admission letter earlier? If there was, has it passed before you attempted to resume?

Again, what school is this? If the negligence is from their part, you need to be firm in your communication with them (perhaps the school’s international office. Express your dissatisfaction with how the whole thing turned out - if it is their fault like I said earlier). Tell the school to give you a support letter to the Minister of Justice and Equality who overseas immigration. In the letter, they should own up to their dereliction of duty.

In the same vein, you should do your own letter praying the minister to grant you permission to stay in the country (with the terms of being able to work and support yourself within the period) pending the resumption of the purported September start. You should attach the school’s letter to the one you will write yourself when you are posting it to the minister. Further, your case should be based on the fact that you have resigned/liquidated your means of sustenance before coming to Ireland and that you don’t have what to return to within the time to September. In addition, you can say you didn’t plan for the extra cost the move back home would cost you. This whole process might take time, so you need to be very proactive.

If your prayer is granted, you should have the right to work full time pending the start of classes in September.

I hope this helps. Cheers.

Hello, what course and level of education would your son be studying for?

But aside the above questions, UK is a bigger economy than Republic of Ireland. So more opportunities in UK than Ireland. Transition path to work permit is not that easy in Ireland save for folks in IT, Engineering and health related services.

Again, Dorset College is not a big school for that sum they are charging. If you considering a school for your child in Ireland, look more at government owned institutions. They are usually larger with more and solid faculty members.

Take this as a first hand experience. Regards.

Hello Babaisha,

I believe I am in a stead to offer some perspective on your post.

Republic of Ireland — in Irish (Eire) is a peaceful place and a vibrant economy built around services, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture. Also it is a relatively small country with some 5 million inhabitants.

Back to your query, immigration rules in Ireland aren’t much different from what you find in many European countries. That is: come in via short stay visa (study, visit, work permit, or through Bel**** etc} and try to gain permanent resident status via employer sponsorship transition, marriage or asylum after which one can have a shot at citizenship.

Wanting your wife to move to Ireland as a student is a great idea. Irish education is sound and globally recognised. But the unfortunate thing is that only PhD students are allowed to bring their spouse, common law partner and dependents to Ireland while studying. Unlike the UK that allows MSc and PhD students to do same. Given this peculiarity vis-à-vis your wife’s educational background, I doubt she will qualify to move to Ireland with your kids on a student visa if she is not studying for a PhD.

If you are really desirous of moving to Ireland, perhaps you might want to encourage your wife to do a nursing diploma (RN) or degree and practice for a few years in some other country and then apply for job with the HSE (Health Service Executive - Ireland’s equivalent of UK’s NHS. This approach would allow her get work permit that permits the holder to come with spouse and dependents.

Also to collaborate what some earlier posters have said, cost of living in Ireland is pretty high. You should brace up to cough some real cash for a family of 6 if you insist on travelling this road.

I hope this helps. Cheers.

Hello Teejay13,

I saw your query and I felt to contribute given my knowledge on the subject matter.

Don’t take this to heart but you don’t seem to have the curiosity for someone looking to study abroad. Please note that this is not an indication that you are not academically qualified.

Going by your post, there is no glimpse from your write up to show you have done any findings on your own concerning the road you want to travel. This is not good enough. More so when you already have a graduate degree. Graduate degree should improve your skills like critical thinking, decision making and more importantly ability to research. I hope this fires you to become more curious to hunt for information and knowledge using the vast resources on the internet.

Back to your question. You are in the best position to answer it yourself. Why have I said this? Because you know what your aspirations are for the future. It is the aspiration that will drive you towards any decision you will be making. On the whether MSc or PhD. I would advise you can hunt for either depending on how you feel with acquiring more education. While you can settle for whichever comes with funding. In addition, given your background in Statistics, I would urge you to go for something in Data Science.

With this said, PhD or MSc are means to an end and never an end to a means. So ask yourself what is the goal again. Is it to leave Naija or to learn skills that fit into a bigger goal?

Nairaland is a good place to start for researching studying abroad as many people have done that in different countries of the world and have consequently shared their experiences which serves as a guide on how others can achieve the same feat. So take time to read! It will help you more than you can imagine.

Again, study abroad is expensive if one doesn’t get scholarship or funding. The USA has the most funding options for international students. But like many who have replied you have said, you might need to write the GRE to get such funds.

On the flip side, you can pursue Canada Express Entry. Albeit the most straightforward way to immigrate especially for someone who doesn’t have the millions to pay tuition in many advanced countries.

I hope this helps. Best of luck.

Hello. First, I don’t know much about Business Analytics. But it will serve you well to check if it is on the critical skill list. That way you can know what you are getting into.

Again, the UK is a bigger market than Ireland given the population of UK at about 67 million and Ireland just about 5 million. This means the opportunities in the UK would be more than that of Ireland.

The catch for Ireland before was the post study they were offering. And now that UK is offering the same thing, I would wager on UK than Ireland.

As to the money you will be spending, it is up to you to decide if it will be worth it or otherwise. You know yourself than I can ever do. Check your circumstances and make the decision that would best serve you. I hope this helps. Cheers.

travel after studying you get 2 years post a study visa...

if these proves abortive, after the two years apply for PHD, while studying come to Nigeria and marry. Bring your wife as dependant, let her work while you study, after your PhD, your wife will apply for m.sc and subsequently post study visa. Now this bring your stay in UK legally to ten years, I.e 1year m.sc + 2 years psw + 4 years PHD, + wife's m.sc + 2years psw =10 years. With this you can apply for ILR using the 10 years route. After a year you apply for citizenship.
Hi... you might want to check if the post study visa counts towards settlement.. it doesn’t look like it. I stand to be corrected. Cheers.

At op, first of all, congratulations on both opportunities knocking at your door. Not a bad dilemma to be found in.

My position might not be popular with many on here. But regardless I will still make them as I am entitled to them.

I have noticed here that whenever anything abroad is mentioned on this forum, the default answer by many who have never lived abroad is “japa”. It most times make people who have experience not to offer their perspective or when they do, they get attacked. Whichever way, it doesn’t change reality much. But same cannot be said for the many expectations of many proponents of this japa gang.

So back to your question: there are factors that should guide you in making decisions. First is age, secondly is your social being and envisaged status, and then thinking long term goals.

I digress a bit. Multinational companies usually offer unparalleled trainings, good emoluments and structured workplace environment which many indigenous companies lacks. Even with the little details you have given here, a job starting at 300k will certainly offer more as you grow through the ranks. Again, without doubts, the experience from that place can always take you to other companies who will offer more in the long term. Furthermore, is this job aligned with your career goals? Is it an industry you see yourself playing in the long term? Or are there transferable skills you can export to other jobs and industries? I am sorry for my many questions. But answering them yourself would go a long way.

On the France MSc, this is also a great one depending if it is via scholarship or self sponsorship. The knowledge and skills the MSc will equip you with are not in doubt. But the reality after the MSc would still to look for work. Which is another kettle of fish itself largely due to language constraints, visa ish, and many unwritten stereotypical rules - many like to deny this or downplay it but reality shows otherwise. This can setback some of your goals. I know some will even tell you to go for PhD after masters. More like acquiring more degrees with little relevant work experience. And no sense when you can’t put knowledge to practice. Something the multinational job is offering you now even without a foreign MSc.

Trust me, the country you are heading to have their own children to do the job you are hoping on. And when you try to get such job, upward progress is another story. And forget this story people say “I am not moving abroad because of money instead for sanity and my kids”. It doesn’t hold much water because one’s income determines how one enjoys the good life abroad too. Except you plan basing your life on social welfare from the start. Which is something that keeps many of our compatriots thinking they are better off. Even when the system only sees them for being jobbers.

A way to go especially if the MSc is not through scholarship is to work for say 3 years, and then pursue express entry/PR in Canada or Australia if you are really keen on moving abroad. That way you won’t be bothered with visa status (becoming a Permanent Resident in many European countries can be very difficult). Once the PR pulls through, then you can do MSc or any other degree level you are interested in while paying citizens fees, getting grants and even scholarships. After the planned degrees if you choose to, it is then you will appreciate the multinational work experience on your CV. Good luck in your pursuit. Cheers.

Hello all.
This is such a fantastic thread, I have gone through a lot of pages and I commend the effort the thread initiator and all those helping.

I need some clarifications. I want to apply for a long term study visa and I checked the requirements of DFA website. However, I noticed some contradictions. On the website, nothing was mentioned about writing a personal statement, the only thing mentioned was writing an application letter including reason for wanting to come to Ireland, contrary to what I have been seeing. Another thing is they did not ask for why are you studying this course and other similar questions.

Can someone clarify please. Thank you
Hello mate, to the best of my knowledge, personal statement is for admission purpose. Which is to be submitted to the school when applying for admission.

While application letter is that which you submit alongside other forms and documents during visa application. In your visa application letter, you will give a brief overview of your background, reason for the course, what you have done previously that qualifies you for the course, why you have chosen Ireland; as well as what you intend to do after your studies. Many of the things in personal statement and visa application letter are similar. Just that receiving institution differs.

I hope this helps answer your queries. Cheers.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation, I'll look into the nursing program for my wife in the UK. One very quick question, do I have apply for my wife and have my kids as dependent while I'm the sponsor or do I have to apply for wife, apply for my son(5yrs) and have my daughter(1yr) as dependent while I'm the sponsor?
In the UK or Canada, you and your kids automatically become dependent on your wife once her application is granted; you guys can file alongside her own application or join at a later time. The means (proof of fund) is the major thing you need to factor and make plans for same as they have monetary requirements for different family size.

You also need to prove ties to your country. So that they won't say your intention is to japa. Cheers.
Travel / Re: Family Relocation Advice Needed by niyogeol(m): 5:33pm On Apr 04, 2021
Hello lyfisgud,

In my view, looking to move your kids and wife abroad while you stay in Nigeria is something you should reconsider.

Again, if you are sceptical about racism, you should allow your kids do secondary education in Nigeria and send them abroad for their bachelors. Many bachelor programs run for 3 years in the UK. I am saying this because of the cash you seem to be making from your business. In addition to the fact that your kids would have developed some level of self awareness and confidence doing their secondary education in Nigeria which would come handy for them in a predominantly caucasian society since your choice is Europe or USA/Canada.

The high point of the above is that only few countries offer structured pathways to gaining permanent residency cum citizenship. It is something you should think of critically. Without necessary papers, life abroad is not something you want to subject your family to.

But if you insist on the move, let your wife move to say UK or Canada for studies. She should do "Nursing" preferably in the UK, and any other course in Canada. For Canada, once she gets study visa, she is certain of becoming a permanent resident after a few years through the numerous pathways available.

PS: Don't move to a country where it is not certain of getting papers. Especially as you are already married - which has ruled out some stuff people do to get their papers. Good luck.

Got feedback in the negative today.

The organisation of the test is nothing to commend the organisers for.

First time I would take aptitude test and questions are not put in section. Like mixing up the whole thing was just unrealistic. Solving 1 verbal now and moving to quantitative next, and verbal, then current affairs and quantitative in no order. That was some destabilising stuff there.

And the whole time for accreditation to when the test started created undue pressure.

To folks who got to the next stage, I wish you success!

Seun, lalasticla, mynd44, davide470, and other mods here, why can't this thread grace the front page for people to contribute to it and discuss?

Given the reach of the platform you have created Seun, you can also help shape the outlook of young people beyond the gossips and innuendos that mostly catch their fantasies by putting some educational posts on the homepage daily. That way, you will always attract the sort of people who engaged on this forum say 7 - 10 years ago. The conversation here has simply lost steam.

Nairaland is your legacy. And your foresight in creating it has to be commended. But you have to sustain the health of the conversation here. The information this forum provided me is immense and I believe I can't thank you enough for it. But many of those people who contributed to such robust conversations have since moved on because of how the space has degenerated by tribal herdsmen, scammers and people spamming threads and seeking cheap popularity. Please rethink this and make this space more engaging and innovative.

I have moderated social media on the global stage with one of the biggest players in the industry. So I can offer some perspective if you are interested. Regards.

Mcowubaba,

You have touched on many things that there is little to add. Kudos man.

But my one kobo is for people considering another study in Ireland after exhausting their time on 1G should shelve the thought. Because 1G can't be used beyond the 2 years it is granted for - meaning you won't be entitled to 1G again even if you study another course. Except if the Minister of Justice grant a discretionary extension. So for folks in this situation, don't go and spend your hard earned money again. Because you will likely be postponing your fears of not confronting the reality that lies ahead.

So people should instead go to UK for another study as they are bringing their own 2 years post study visa on stream. Canada express entry is another thing people should give a shot at. Or even further studies in Canada or USA. Or for people still interested in further studies, you can try PhD opportunities in other parts of Europe and Australia. All of these moves will require money. So endeavor to save up from the hustle you currently hold and not blowing the cash just to impress people on Instagram.

For people still in naija yet to make the move, please like Mcowubaba has stated above, consider the course you are going to Ireland to study. Don't go and burn over #6m just because you want to leave naija to go and face uncertainty of doing things not commensurate with the degree you will acquire.

If you move to fund your MSc in the UK, you will be paying international fees which is not cheap. Give or take - 6m to 7m given the present exchange rate. That said, visa fees, medicals for visa application cost, flight fees and money needed to show for upkeep for visa application purpose would be high. Before you know it, the money you sold the house for would be almost half way spent.

Fast forward to getting to the UK, your spouse would be able to work fulltime to support the family. But this again would be largely dependent on the age of your kids - as they might need minder if they are below a certain age. Which would mean someone has to do that and limiting the chances of working for the person. The cost of running the home won't be cheap. Although your kids won't need to pay for pre University education.

Then post graduation, the reality of who are you sets in when trying to get a job that would be able to sponsor you for work permit. If this doesn't happen, what are you going to do to get the right to remain legally in the UK? Continue schooling to get cumulative 10 years stay in order to file for "Indefinite Leave To Remain"? How old would you be when you add the 10 years to your age? Or do you desire to be doing survival job at your age after studies when you had your stuff together in naija?

Another chance might be for your wife to consider nursing degree. They get work visa without much stress. And you as a dependent (man) can hustle to bring bread to the family's table.

In my view, UK is not a place you should sell your house to travel to. If you feel the need to move abroad, I would recommend you explore Canada as they have the best immigration rules to getting permanent residency and citizenship in the developed world.

Hello,

Is there a peculiarity or reason for applicants whose files get transferred to Etobicoke Visa office? I ordered my GCMS note and discovered my application was moved there. Prior to this, I have never heard of this visa office before( not common among EE applicants) It is giving me anxieties as the last time any activity occurred around my application was September 2020, shortly after biometrics.

Please are there people who have had PR approvals with this office and wondered if they also experienced long wait durations?

Thank you!
You already have GCMS notes with you; what does it say on eligibility, criminality and security? Also, what notes are written in the last 5 pages? I believe the notes by Case Analyst, or Case Officer should be your concern and not the visa office your application was transferred to.
