Politics / Nigerian Aviation Minister's MBA Degree May Have Been A Forgery. by octaviusesse(m): 8:48am On Jan 07, 2014
Nigeria's Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, seems to be stepping further into deeper waters as she may just be embroiled in another fraud issue, just when it seems she has weathered the storm of the N255 million Bullet proof Cars saga.

Reports by Saharareporters is saying that, her supposed Masters' degree from St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Virginia, USA, is fake.

In 2011, Stella Oduah in her resume which she submitted to the Nigerian Senate as a Ministerial nominee, she stated that she obtained a Maters' degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Paul's College. But reports coming in say's, that St. Paul's College has never in it's 125 years of existence offered a graduate school or graduate program.

Also a look at the institutions websites, shows no mention of it offering graduate degrees. “Saint Paul's College is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate [bachelor’s] degrees.”

On enquiries, the Provost Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Vice President of Institutional Development said, , “We don’t offer any graduate programs here.”

However, it is said the Minister received her undergraduate degree in accounting from the institution in 1982, but all these could not be confirmed as the college has been closed down since June 2013 due to loss of it's accreditation

It will be recalled the Stella Oduah, Nigeria's Aviation Minister is yet to be cleared of the allegations of fraud as it relates to her purchase of two BMW bullet proof cars worth $1.6 million through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority...... http://www.searchlightnigeria.com/2014/01/nigerias-aviation-ministers-mba-degree.html#.Usuw9fRDuDQ
Politics / President Goodluck Jonathan's Administration ; Separating Facts From Fiction. by octaviusesse(m): 8:39am On Jan 05, 2014
Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on New Media, Reno Omokri, wrote the expose below to lay bare, the facts on some issues concerning the Goodluck Jonathan led administration.

In this write up, Reno berated some Nigerian political elites who have double standards when it comes to going against the Jonathan administration

Here is what he wrote...

I was about to write this piece detailing the positive effects of the Transformation Agenda when I was confronted with a hypocrisy which could possibly pass for the mother of all hypocrisies.

On the 18th of December 2013 several newspapers carried the statement from the All Progressive Congress, APC. While the different papers gave their own slant to the story, I particularly liked the headline from a major newspaper which said "Jonathan Must Respond to Obasanjo - APC".

Now, imagine my surprise that after President Goodluck Jonathan did exactly what the APC recommended, they changed their tune and on the 26th of December 2013 the headline changed to "APC berates Jonathan’s response to Obasanjo’s letter".

The story in fact was more telling with the Vanguard Newspapers writing that "The All Progressives Congress (APC) says the presidency has been greatly diminished by its decision to throw decorum to the wind and engage former President Olusegun Obasanjo"....... Politics / Nigeria Still Wallowing In The Depth Of Corruption by octaviusesse(m): 12:39pm On Dec 03, 2013
One look at Nigeria and the potentials abound withing the territories, the abundant human and natural resources, tapped and untapped, it show all the ingredients of a great nation. And yet the country is still struggling to catch up with the tail lights of development.

This one step forward, twelve steps backward stance in Nigeria's development can only be attributed to corruption. From top to bottom in Nigeria's sphere of nationhood, the virus eats deep into the fabric of the country's existence.

Transparency International's corruption Perception index for 2013, places Nigeria in a woeful 144th position out of the 177 countries.

Food for thought or call to action. For the fact that our leaders are in front of the charge for a corruption free Nigeria, one is tempted to say, those are mere lip service. The EFCC, ICPC and any other anti-graft agency set up by the government, as now seen as toothless bulldogs, all bark and no bite.

Transparency's corruption index shows Nigeria scored 25 out of a total of 100, two points down from the 27 the country scored last year.

The organisation say, measurements are done through perception of the functionality of government and other development indices. Like access to information system, rules governing those in public offices, accountability among public and private sectors and effective public institutions.

As simple as these criteria may be, a country like Nigeria should be confident at scaling through the hurdles, given the heavy media coverage the governments anti-corruption drive is getting........ http://www.searchlightnigeria.com/2013/12/nigeria-still-wallowing-in-depth-of.html#.Up3CssRDuDQ

Yes, it has been a good year, but Adichie does not look like a lady who will be slowing down in 2014. Religion / Restricting Nigerian "Men Of God" Misleading People On Miracles And Prophetic by octaviusesse(m): 7:22am On Nov 24, 2013
Nigerians must wake up to the reality of constructing this country through proper planning, collaboration, coordination and sincerity, rather than hoping on some supernatural powers to fix our roads, provide security, Electricity, etc.

Certain individuals from the larger society are capitalizing on the chaos we face as a people to dispossess us of some fraction of our hard-earned money. They have become mega lords running Nigerian homes and businesses. But such divine input never gave birth to a decent society.

Today, it is deafening how these people go on air exploiting traumatized Nigerians. It is a mouthful that so many Nigerians who are victims of poverty are afflicted by complicated ailments and could not afford medical checkup. It is this group of Nigerians 'pastors?' and 'prophets?' are using to convince viewers that they could perform miracles.

We are ruining this country with a lazy man's mentality. Road accident is killing us all, and we think it is a good thing to exploit travelers by offering paid prayers at every Motor Park?

It is disgusting how you prefer to idolize... these criminal wizards, or Pastor?. Now, our people could go ahead to commit all sort of crimes because they think these spiritualists will save them?

The bogus claims of so called "men of God" could fix problems that are evidently direct consequences of indiscipline, have gone beyond the disgusting scenes of claims of miracles on Television to embarrassing internet posts..... Music/Radio / Is "Eminado" Video A Duplicate Of South Africa's "Asinamali" ? by octaviusesse(m): 12:48pm On Nov 21, 2013
Nigerian International Music Video director Clarence Peters may be having his creativity come under scrutiny as one of his recent works, Tiwa Savage's "Eminado" music video which he directed is been seen as a close copy of an older South African music video.

Tongues are wagging that the video of Eminado bears uncomfortable resemblance to "Asinamali" a song by the South African Group, Tumi and the Volume.

Though in some aspects one can argue that in the arts adaptations are allowed, but some critics are of the notion that Clarence may be out of his depth.

Politics / Is El-rufai Despirately Seeking Political Relevance At The Expense Of Nigeria? by octaviusesse(m): 10:09pm On Nov 17, 2013
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is actively participating in every political forum these days. The man was no doubt one of Obasanjo's henchmen who in recent times felt ignored by the Jonathan' government, hence is exploiting every avenue for a political come-back.

El-Rufai is at the moment ready to say or do anything to achieve his goals. For example, though we are all aware that the man is far from being a religious bigot, he had in two occasions used religion as
a political tool.

During one of his so many criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan, he claimed the President accused the APC Chieftain, Buhari, as a religious extremist, even though there are no cogent evidence the President said so.

Next, he decided to politicize the President's trip to Israel by re-tweeting a caricature of the President kneeling and praying against the Ills bedeviling the country, and adding a comment that portrayed the President as an incompetent leader seeking divine intervention for problems that require bold leadership and physical actions.

Mallam El-Rufai thought it was his call to ensure free and fair election in the 2013 Anambra governorship election, hence was seen in the state engaging in illicit supervision. When accosted by men from the State Security Service, he immediately alert the public that the SSS had restricted him for two hours.

Inasmuch as entertaining and funny the El-Rufai drama is, it is capable of putting a dent on the good reputation the Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, OFR, led INEC earned during the 2011 presidential election that saw the emergence of Goodluck Jonathan as President...... Food / Who Will Feed Nigerians? by octaviusesse(m): 8:20am On Nov 17, 2013
Nigeria boasts of a large area of fertile lands for Agriculture, but with an explosive population and very reduced number of farmers, how will the country be able to feed its people in the future?

Southern Nigerian cities are fast encroaching fertile lands depleting spaces available for Agriculture. The most notorious is Benin city in Edo state. The city has expanded far beyond its boundaries depleting farmlands and forests in surrounding villages.

The Ikpoba Hill and Sokponba Axes have long been overwhelmed. What is alarming is the springing
up of large buildings and streets in Ekewan road. Igo village known for large expanse of rubber plantations and cassava farms is now populated with people and houses.

Expanding population and housing should be a good thing for a country when there is proper planning, regulation and control. Instead, uninformed community youths view the expansion of big cities into their communities as opportunity to make quick money from reckless land sales at the expense of the environment and the future generation, while people in government look on.

Lagos has already exhausted over 90% of its land mass. Now, Lagosians depend on the importations of foods like plantain, yam, garri, banana, etc., from places like Benin. And now that Benin is also losing its land mass, how will it feed itself and cater for the needs of Lagos?

The uncontrolled expansion of the urban areas into rural areas is not the only problem threatening the availability of food in Nigeria. Population of farmers is also dwindling.

Young people do not regard Agriculture a noble endeavor. Agriculture has in recent times becomes a profession reserved for the poor and uneducated. Even older farmers would rather their children become something else than continuing the farming business.

Most graduates of Agriculture prefer working in a Banks, Telecommunication companies or some offices than working as agriculturists...... Read More http://www.searchlightnigeria.com/2013/11/who-will-feed-nigerians.html
Religion / Nigeria Dying Under The Heavy Weight Of Religion by octaviusesse(m): 8:13am On Nov 17, 2013
Nigerians are feeling the pains of the skin-piercing pinch of hoping religion help does what you should do for yourself.

While Boko Haram is the first point of call when topics on the negative effects of extreme religious practices are brought to the table, southern Nigeria that barely had religious terror attacks had suffered religious onslaught more than the north.

Religion in Nigeria is not restricted to Islam and Christianity alone, but include an array of traditional and cultural practices that date back pre-colonial times. Whereas most Nigerians profess any of the two major religions above, a large number of the population patronize traditional religion practitioners.

Traditional religion groups associated with specific ethnic groups have adopted a reform that depict them as churches rather than fetish practices. It is these churches that are responsible for the societal chaos in southern Nigeria.

Pastors of Nigerian ethnic churches prefer to emphasize on miracle and prosperity. They are Seers that love to tell future events to their followers, and promise protections for faithful worshippers.

Armed bandits, kidnappers, road accidents and sexually transmitted diseases are snuffing life out of millions of Nigerians annually, but the Dibia, Babalawo or Malam would rather give you a charm that they claim will protect you from these realities.

Pastors are busy selling anointed oil, handkerchief, or encouraging their members to sow seeds before engaging on major trips. And one of such trips might even be trafficking drugs across the Nigerian border.

You do not need to work hard, neither do we need to fix our bad roads; because a supernatural power will bestow wings on our vehicle enabling it to fly over every bad spot on the road. And after every successful trip, worshippers will use money or other valuable items to offer a 'thanks giving' at the church...... Celebrities / Emmy Collins And Laura Ikeji At War. by octaviusesse(m): 7:26am On Nov 15, 2013
London trained Nigerian designer Emmy Collins and Laura Ikeji (Linda Ikeji's sibling) are currently on a war path.

Laura Ikeji (a fitness Instructor) didn't spared her language usage as she reacted on twitter to Emmy Collins's blog post about herself and her sister. Laura who is well known for her rancid rants, called Emmy all sorts of unprintable words.

Below is Emmy Collins post on "Diarybyemmy" and Laura Ikeji's twitter reply.

By Emmy Collins
When I received a link to a certain tweet which Laura ikeji had apparently tweeted, I thought someone was simply sending me on a wild goose chase and so I ignored them all throughout last week. I again received the link this week and decided to check it out and when I did check out her twitter page, I was gobsmacked.

She even posted an invoice of her sister’s purchases from Dubai. In fact that was the first time ever I had heard of someone posting an invoice online to prove the price of an item. That was a new one to me for real. This is proof that some people will always remain poor regardless of how much money they acquire. It is called a poverty mentality.
In Nigeria of today where a huge percentage of people are unsure of where their next meal will come from, this chic thinks this is something worth posting online.I understand that she or her sisters don’t contribute to the hunger that is rife in our country but this is highly insensitive and depicts bushwomanism/mgbekeism.
Anyway, please find below a few of Laura Ikeji`s tweets below. My question though is what planet did this this babe fly down from?Whatttttt? Couldn`t her sister Linda have instructed her to delete some of the tweets or did she get the green light from big sister?

Politics / Angry ASUU Members Chase Governor Idris Wada From Hospital. by octaviusesse(m): 9:31am On Nov 14, 2013
Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada was chased out of the Lokoja General hospital by angry ASUU members when he visited their colleague.

Governor Wada had gone to commiserate with and also check on the recovery of Dr. Ngozi Ilo, who was injured in an accident involving the governors convoy, which claimed the life of former ASUU president, Dr. Festus Iyayi.

The National President, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi; Ibadan zonal coordinator, Dr. Nassir Adesola; Chairman Lagos state University ASUU, Dr. Adekunle Idris; Monye-Emina and lecturers from the Federal University Lokoja, were among those who chased the Governor away from the hospital emergency ward. The University Dons were angry at the governor for his late response to the incident and that he wants to use the situation to gain political favours.

Dr. Adekunle said, the governor is so insensitive, that the accident took place around 11 am and the governor is visiting them by 5 pm, if the governor truly was remorseful, why didn't he provide them with an ambulance when the accident happened instead of speeding off...... http://www.searchlightnigeria.com/2013/11/angry-ASUU-members-chase-governor-idris.html
Politics / Nigerian Pirates Take The Lead In Piracy, Displacing Somali Pirates by octaviusesse(m): 7:27am On Nov 14, 2013
Recently, U.S. Republican Media initiated a call for military intervention in the Gulf of Guinea. They claimed Pirates from Nigeria are hindering free movement of ships across the west African countries bordering the Atlantic ocean. The claim was buttressed by the October incident where Nigerian pirates, operating off the coast of Nigeria, were confirmed to have attacked an American C-Retriever (an oil platform supply vessel) and kidnapped the two Americans onboard.

The activities of pirates in this region have been described as Economic Sabotage to affected west African countries. This include Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, and the Democratic
Republic of Congo. Benin was reported to have been worst hit in the year 2012 where the Port of Cotonou was reported to have lost 70% of its revenue to piracy.

What led to the emergence of pirates in the Gulf of Guinea is linked to the rise of militant groups in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. Ships carrying supplies to and fro oil companies operating in the region were prime targets. The militants would seize oil tankers, siphon the petroleum contents and sell them through black markets.

The spoils of the oil theft venture was so juicy that the militants were able to afford sophisticated weapons, enough to spread their tentacles from oil theft to total robbery of anything carrying goods across the Atlantic waters bordering west African countries.

Today, various gangs have emerged conducting full scale robberies comparable to the ugly Tales describing how Somali pirates wreak havoc on vessels moving through the Indian ocean.

Whereas, a multinational coalition task force was potent in combatting, and subsequently reducing the Somali incident; the same was prescribed for the Nigerian case at the 19th November 2012 meeting convened by the United Nations Security Council held to discuss the threat of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea...... Politics / The Justice That Allows Amnesty For Kidnappers. by octaviusesse(m): 12:56pm On Nov 13, 2013
No doubt, 'Kelvin the Great' shares a common trait with Alexander the Great. Like Alexander, he was able to garner the support of his people and unite once isolated independent criminals into a powerful and ruthless network of kidnappers whose exploit have brought the high and mighty to their kneels.

Launching from Kokori, he was able to instill fears in the hearts of the masses, defiling both the Nigerian Police Force and the Government of his Epicenter, Edo/Delta State.

His success and daredevil acts became a mentorship for local criminals so that they grew from using armed robbery to terrorize their neighbours to organizing petty kidnapping activities that target common people such as school teachers.

But the man soon wanted to live in the Peace he did not grant the larger society, hence he and his gang members got dressed up like Urhobo Masquerades, demanding for Amnesty and issued a
threat to destroy what feeds the folks at Abuja. It was this single act that eventually led to the capture of the great terror.

Since the capture and arrest of the man credited to be responsible for most of the high profile kidnapping in Edo and Delta state, Nigerians have been debating on whether he should be made to face the full weight of the law or simply granted Amnesty..... Even as Mrs. Chime had denied hiring Falana (SAN), a Lagos based human right lawyer to take up the matter on her behalf. Though she told those at the gathering that a friend of hers did so on her behalf in order to “fight her cause”.
Falana, said he spoke with Mrs Chime on Thursday morning, and that the Governors claim that the wife did not ask him (Falana) to secure her release was a lie by the governor.
“contrary to such diversionary statement I wish to state that I do not need the instructions of citizens who are illegally detained to demand for their release. Without any instructions I am duty bound to file cases in court to secure the enforcement of the fundamental rights of detainees to personal liberty. For the avoidance of doubt, the doctrine of locus standi in the area of human rights has been abolished by the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 which came into force on December 1,2009......
