Education / FUTO Students Clamour For More Banks On Campus by oluwadanie1(m): 3:57pm On Apr 24, 2016 |
Many students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri are presently clamouring for more banks to be built on campus. Students of F.U.T owerri have taken to their various social media handles to protest what they referred to as "monopoly" practised by Diamond bank on the school campus. "i don't know if diamond bank FUTO paid FUTO management an amount of money to monopolize the area. They've enjoyed the preiviledge for long yet they don't do anything substantial for the student's welfare", said a student. It has been reported that students find it very hard to withdraw money from an A.T.M because of the large population of students that tend to use it. Sources reveal this has been the status quo for a very long time but right now, students are ready to change it. Politics / Amaechi: Minister Of Transportation Or Rivers Opposition Candidate by oluwadanie1(m): 9:37am On Mar 30, 2016 |
By Daniel A. Moses Out of no less than 36 ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet, there are about 4 of them who are former governors of their respective states. They include Chris Ngige- Anambra, Kayode Fayemi- Ekiti, Rotimi Amaechi- Rivers and Babatunde Fashola- Lagos. However, my displeasure is aimed only at one of them. Rotimi Amaechi. The rate at which our Honourable Minister of transportation talks and involves himself in dirty Rivers state politics is quite alarming. To someone who never knew him until now, one would think he is the opposition's governorship candidate in Rivers. I mean even Dakuku Peterside isn't involved as much as Amaechi. Kayode Fayemi was a former governor of Ekiti state where the present governor, Fayose talks as much as Wike, but i believe he has discovered that being the minister of solid minerals development should be his priority and not Ekiti state politics. In the same vein, Amaechi should be made to realise that as it stands now, being minister of transportation should be his first and second worry, others can follow. This is not saying he shouldn't interfere in Rivers state politics at all as he has earned it, it is saying there should be a limit to how much time he dedicates to the "dog and cat" fight between him and Wike. His time should henceforth be invested in turning around the transportation sector and start earning his salary. |

Education / OAU No More “oba Awon Universities”? By Daniel A. Moses by oluwadanie1(m): 3:13pm On Mar 09, 2016 |
The self-acclaimed “Oba Awon Universities” (King of universities) is fast losing its credibility for which it was acclaimed king. OAU, which is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s finest universities in terms of academic prowess and otherwise is now beginning to ridicule itself amongst others through its very irrational actions. No thanks to both the school management and its students. In the late hours of December 1st 2015, the governing council shut down the school indefinitely and still went ahead to suspend the Students Union Government (SUG). So shameful of the school management, I must say. This development only came after students boycotted lectures demanding better welfare conditions, fumigation of the halls of residence which have been conquered by bedbugs, rats amongst other demands. Instead of the management to look into these demands, all they could think of was to shut down the school and mute the student’s mouthpiece. What is the justification of collecting large school and Hostel fees from students if they cannot be provided with basic amenities like good power supply, clean water, neat environment and habitable halls of residence. I really do think the school management should start acting like fathers and mothers that they are to their students and NOT display a Master-Slave relationship with them. The fast declining reputation of the Obafemi Awolowo University has left me pondering for hours, days or maybe weeks if this once great university is still the “Oba Awon Universities”. Now, on the part of the Students Union Government, I want to vent my disappointment at the way matters are being handled by its leadership. In my little sojourn on planet earth, I have come to discover what is called a “dialogue” and I think the union officials should have discovered that too. You don’t always resort to violent protests to make a certain body meet your demands. There are more civil ways of doing this. Also, if we are conscientious in observing this scenario, we would discover that most of the strike actions that occur in OAU are majorly products of these violent protests by students. So what is the gain? Now to fellow students, even if you are supposed to be living in luxury given the large amount of hostel fees you pay, the reality is you are NOT living in one. There are certain things you can organise yourselves or contribute money to carryout to make your environment a more habitable one. This is why we are higher animals. Should we keep watching until the great ife is diminished enough to be called “Omode Awon Universities” (Child of Universities)? I guess not. http://kaybaba.com/15995-2oau-no-more-oba-awon-universities-by-daniel-a-moses/

Education / Kwara State Students Protest Non Payment Of Bursaries, Poor Welfarism by oluwadanie1(m): 7:59am On Mar 09, 2016 |
The Newly constituted Executives of the National Association of Kwara State students has protested the Non – payment of Student’s Bursary and negligence in the general welfarism of students in the state. In a press released & signed by the Newly Inaugurated President of the Association, Comrade Oyedepo Abdulhafeez O and the Director of Media and publicity, Comrade Anifowose Titilope, the Apex Kwara State students association expressively demanded that the state Government meet up with their demands. Read the full text of the Press Release below: PRESS RELEASE: NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KWARA STATE STUDENTS (NATIONAL HEADQUATERS) Protocol, Stars need darkness to shine! The days of stagnancy, redundancy and indolence in NAKKS is over! We the newly elected executive members of the National Association of Kwara State Students (National headquarters) express our sincere solidarity to kwara State students home and abroad. In an attempt to truly represent the interest of kwara students, we have taken a sojourn round all institutions in kwara state, we have met with stakeholders and aggregated the needs and yearnings of our students; hence we call the attention of the Kwara State Government on the following issues: 1. CONSTRUCTION OF NAKKS SECRETARIAT: The sardonic tale of how the national body of Kwara Students home and abroad is a vagabond MUST COME TO AN END. For years the national body has conducted her activities of fighting for the welfarism of kwara students without a roof on her head even when the fictional headquarters of the body is situated in our home and origin KWARA. we call for IMMEDIATE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BUILDING SITUATED IN ILORIN KWARA STATE TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE SECRETARIAT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KWARA STATE STUDENTS. 2. IMMEDIATE PAYMENT OF BURSARY AND SCHORLARSHIP (INCLUDING OUR ARREARS): In our compassion for the economic situation of our beloved kwara, we condone the fact that all over Nigeria, our students receive the least bursary of N5,000 , however we say a very strong NO to non-payment of our bursary and scholarship. For the purpose of record the present administration of Dr Abdul Fatai Ahmad seized payment of bursary and scholarship to Kwara Students since year 2012. It should also be recalled that in January 2015, at Bekadims Hotel, oke-odo Ilorin, where he met with students from different institutions in Kwara in his bid for second term Gov Fatai Ahmed promised to pay up the arrears. It’s been 394 days and students are yet to get any bursary or scholarship despite the fact that the federal government has not seized to remit bursary and scholarship allocation to the state government. We are not unaware of the statement of Gov Ahmed to the immediate past NAKKS administration that “bursary is not your right, but a privilege. I haven’t even paid your parents’ salary not to talk of your bursary”. This statement is not only tumultuous and vitriolic but also unguarded, as history shows that the past administration led by Sen Bukola Saraki paid our bursary all through and even gave scholarship to outstanding kwara Students. WHY IS TODAY DIFFERENT? WHAT KIND OF GOVERNMENT REMONSTRATES THE PAYMENT OF BURSARY? PAYMENT OF BURSARY IS OUR INALIENABLE RIGHT AND IT MUST BE PAID NOW! 3. RENOVATION OF THE BEDRAGGLED STRUCTURES OF OUR TETIARY INSTITUTIONS (ESPECIALLY COED, ILORIN AND CAILS): The attention of this noble organization has been called to the tatterdemalion and derelict state of the buildings and classrooms in most of the tertiary institutions in kwara state. The situation in College of Education, Ilorin and College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin is very sardonic. What is the essence of education when students aren’t provided with tributary and enabling environment even when they have to pay for it? WITH ALLACRITY AND INSTANCY WE DEMAND FOR THE RENNOVATION OF ALL DILAPIDATED BUILDINGS IN TETIARY INSTITUTIONS IN KWARA STATE! 4. THE WELFARE OF KWARA STUDENTS IS PARAMOUNT: The National Association of Kwara State Students is a student organization piloted by students for the affairs, welfarism, wellbeing and development of indigenes of kwara state in schools within and outside Nigeria. This administration is committed to the fulfilment of these purports. As promised, a stable, reliable and working constitution for the body SHALL be made available before the end of April, 2016. We appreciate every student of kwara, senators from all tertiary institutions in Nigeria, our ever sagacious Patron Amb Yahya Abdul Fatai Seriki, Com Friday Adefila, Alh Babatunde Wahab and Hon Olaitan Babaoye for the support and trust reposed in us. We also appreciate the pride of Kwara and pillar of student activism Sen Olubukola Saraki and the Senior Special Adviser to the Senate President on political matters for their support for youth leadership, youth empowerment and the development of kwara as a whole. ALUTA CONTINUA; VICTORIA ASCERTA! SIGNED OYEDEPO ABDULAFIS O. NATIONAL PRESIDENT, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF KWARA STATE STUDENTS. ANIFOWOSHE TITILOPE TAWAKKALT DIRECTOR OF MEDIA AND PUBLICITY. Pls rebroadcast http://kaybaba.com/national-association-of-kwara-state-students-protest-non-payment-of-bursaries-poor-welfarism-among-others/ |

Education / JAMB Adopts Item Response Theory To Reduce Possibility Of Guessing Answers Right by oluwadanie1(m): 4:31pm On Feb 26, 2016 |
Dr Fabian Benjamin, the JAMB’s Public Relations Officer has disclosed that the board ahead of the 2016 UTME had invested in the training and acquisitions of softwares that will reduce the possibility of candidates guessing answers correctly. He said "Technically, what we were using before to test students was what we called Classical Test Theory, but now we have adopted what we call Item Response Theory. The difference is that the Item Response Theory reduces the percentage of guessing. The tendency for students to guess and guess right is minimal with this software." With this development, Candidates who are experts in guessing answers to questions during examinations, may find it hard to cope unless they studied hard. http://www.campusdailies.com/2016/02/jamb-adopts-use-of-softwares-to-reduce.html#more 7 Likes 5 Shares |
