Career / Re: 100k Job On The Mainland Vs 150k Job On Island. Please Help!!! by oluwatosin070: 8:12pm On Jul 21, 2022
I will suggest you move to island. Opportunity percentage is higher on the island.

Additionally, your career growth is assured on the island than the mainland.

That's my own advice.

God be with you.

Business / Re: Mtn’s Mobile Money Bank Suffers N22B Fraud, Drags 18 Banks To Court For Recovery by oluwatosin070: 7:19pm On Jun 27, 2022
As a Fraud Data Manager, I'll put the blame on MTN.
Since it's an erroneous transactions as they claim, they are wrong to have gone to court over the 18 banks.

However, I understand from MTN's side that they could have gotten little or no cooperation from those banks.

The way commercial banks bully Fintech companies is so huge. They count the Fintech companies as baby banks.

With the court case, the 18 banks will cooperate in helping them recoup some of the transactions.

However, it took MTN longer time to respond to these threat. I know vividly that these errors occurred around last month and people were just withdrawing huge amounts.

The truth is, it's not an erroneous transactions but a system glitch.

I pray they recover some funds. I pity their fraud analyst. This is not the best time to be one in MTN.

A similar case occurred while I was still in ECOBANK as fraud analyst; We worked out arse out in trying to recover funds.

Go to your bank and let them send an erroneous mail to the recipient bank.

Reconciliation will be done and tour money will be reversed.

Please note that the process might be long but you will surely get a reversal.

I feel deeply sorry for the woman.

She is a victim of social engineering which unfortunately makes the bank not liable; which makes it her loss.

As a Fraud Analyst, these are the likely things to be done;
1. The bank should track where the money was moved to.
2. Send a lien or restriction mail to the bank of the beneficiary of the fraud.
3. The woman should involve a law enforcement agent and she should also get a court order.

The process might be long but her money will be recovered.

This is what I do everyday.

Literature / Reach Out To Someone by oluwatosin070: 9:07am On Jun 25, 2021
Nothing is too small.

Please, check up on a friend!

I have been quite busy lately and I noticed that some friends of mine have not been frequent on social media. I thought they were busy as me until I got an sms from a friend about what's going on in her mind.

I called her severally and was really scared when I couldn't reach her initially. I eventually got across to her and hey, she was going through serious depression. contemplating suicide as well.

Things are tough out there. No money, No job, No food, broken relationships, mounting bills, pressures everywhere and losing hope.

Many things are happening to people and they choose to keep it secretly and manage it private.

Please check on a friend today, you might be saving a generation.

Cheers.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria, Vpn, Twitter And The Risks by oluwatosin070: 12:19pm On Jun 07, 2021
Nigerians woke up to the news of a ban on twitter in the country. Sad right, yeah but there are some things that are not right generally however my post is not to castigate the government or whoever placed the ban rather my post is to enlighten you on the risk involved in the usage of VPNs.

The use of VPN allows you to change the location hence creating a new location to the internet access thereby bypassing the restriction placed on a site giving it a total new look and unrestricted access.
Nigerian youth and twitter are like 5&6 thereby making it difficult to ignore the usage despite the ban hence giving way to the usage of VPN for its usage.

VPN means virtual private network. It encrypts your internet traffic and identity, making it difficult for you to be traced by third parties.
With VPN, Twitter users can bypass the blockade and then use the app. But VPNs present dangers of their own.

When you use a VPN, you are still at risk of trojans, bots, malware, spyware, viruses,” Kaspersky said in a blog post on its website. “If any of these were to make it onto your system, they would be able to damage the device regardless of whether you were running a VPN.”

That you use VPN does not mean that you are incognito on the internet. VPNs only protect your IP and encrypt your internet history. They, however, do not protect you if you visit a phishing website or download compromised files.

Many cybersecurity experts believe the free versions of VPNs are loaded with dangers. Paid versions are believed to have limited danger.

“if a VPN service doesn’t charge its customers, the company has to bring in revenue from somewhere else,” wrote John Anthony of Addictive Tips. “The most common source is selling user information the VPN promised to protect. If you aren’t paying for the service, you’re not the customer, you’re the product.”

The following are also the risk involved in the usage of VPN;
Data vulnerability
Slower speed
Possible Hack

ArewaFanatic:

I do work in a new generation bank sir as a customer service officer and can very well tell you that your suggestion is dead on arrival. Put in simpler words, it will not work. At best, Op would be asked to report the case at a local police station with the assurance that "the bank would render any assistance law enforcement agencies may need throughout the course of their investigations". I have used this "sweet line" myself to politely turn down requests similar to this one. It is not a bank's business to launch fraud investigations simply because a deal went south.
Dear Op, your bank is not a solution. Dont waste your time going there over this. I pray you do recover your money via some other means.

How about you liaise with your Internal Audit department for my detailed explanation above, maybe you will understand better if your member explains to you.

Do you actually know the term used for this type of Fraud?
Why do you as a customer service, think it's dead on arrival whereas you as a customer service receives Fraud complaints and escalate to the fraud unit in your organization..
Sir, if it's beyond your jurisdiction, just ask and you will be enlightened..

Did you read the part where I said he will need a police report?
Like I said earlier, ask and you will be enlightened.. Never jump into conclusion..
We know our jobs better than others..

No it doesn't affect it provided you give a true detail of what transpired with evidence

I might have another way to get back your money...

Go to your bank and complain that you did a business gone bad and tell them to help you escalate to the Fraud department.

Your bank's fraud department will send a mail to your debtor's bank to place a hold on the account until your debtor pays..

Infact your bank's fraud team will also request your debtor's BVN, if it is given, it will be sent to NIBSS for possible watchlisting, which means every of your debtor's account even the one in other banks will be blocked..

When your debtor can not withdraw from any account of his, he will pay back the money thereafter his account will be released..

However, you will need a police report which could cost you #2000 for all the procedures..

I only gave this advise because I am a Fraud investigator..

Cheers

The issue of Religion is a critical case in Nigeria.

Christians allows freedom to choose while Islam do not.

I mean literally, every bad thing happening in the world is connected to Islam.
Well, I won't be surprised because they regards themselves as slaves of god while christians are Child of God..

Is Islam really a religion of peace??

A religion who fight for its god while GOD fights for His children (Christians)

It's easy to get your money back.

Tell your bank to send a mail to the other bank where you erroneously sent money to and they will provide an indemnity form. The Recall team will work on the recall of funds.

Just follow the process.

Remember to bank with ECOBANK.✌️
