you know, someone has actually mentioned that the VOs are codedly on this thread. I for one thought that was a joke until you just spotted them. USA is really a great country.. They don't take anything for granted.. For those of us that will be asking yeye question on this thread like "should I sign my i20 form?" and later you will be saying I answered all my questions correctly but I was delayed.. you were not delayed my friend. You were denied and it's because of your yeye question. The vos are here monitoring your yeye questions. I would have tagged them both to just greet them but I am scared so dey don't change their minds on my case. any how sha Lagosniv thank you for approving my visa yesterday.

Believe me, they learn a lot on this thread in understanding better the applicants they are dealing with and also the Nigerian youths state of mind in general. This threads helps them in psychologically filtering genuine applicants on the interview floor as they already know everyone are desperate to jaaa komot for naija

Hello guys, so I had my interview earlier today(7:15) in Lagos and everything went well until it go to a point when the vo asked about my sevis fee receipt and I handed it over he took time checking he later had to leave his sir for sometime...on getting back he gave me a white paper an ticked that I had to provide additional doc because the sevis ID on my I-20 didn't tally with the one I had on my sevis payment receipt...he said I should contact the school which I did already and I got that fixed and I was told it was because I changed my course that's why we had that discrepancy...now I have mailed the new sevis ID and receipt to the email the vo asked me to mail it to...

Now my questions; does that mean I have gotten the visa because the vo didn't tick administrative process...am uploading a copy of the letter I got please I need you people's opinion

You have nothing to worry about. You got your visa already!

You have to send an email to the embassy for an expedited appointment. This option is available for student visa and medical treatment visa applicants. All the best

so are you saying that someone who can't afford the universities can't comfortably get an F1 visa for community college...and I see no reason why you compare the community college in the US with the polytechnics in Nigeria...am sure the are far better than the once we have here. since I can't afford the universities I intend getting an associate degree which I can use in applying for universities to get my bachelor's degree...that saves money. and I believe one of the major reason why community colleges are established is for those who can't afford the universities. So why will a VO delay my visa only because I applied to community colleges and why are there more international students in some community colleges

@Lagosismyhome I really need your advice on this ma'am..I already sent you a PM please reply me

You keep rigmaroling on a single question and it’s getting stale already. The worst part is you are not even listening to the advises given to you because you keep complaining of affordability when you can easily get a full ride university scholarship if you put in your application right to a university. How about you stop disturbing people here and go ahead to apply for admissions at community colleges?
We’ll all still be here to assist you further when you don wise and your eyes don clear. Till then, go ahead and apply bro. Don’t run mouth here too much! Just go ahead

Funny that I never mentioned you, but you are still quick to come jump to conclusions. I did not justify his lateness, but will also not mock him without knowing why and also pointing him in the right direction. The guy could have had an accident on his way, or even been sick or any other circumstance beyond his control (and yes, these occur much more frequently in a 'zoo' than in the perfect life you are so used to now). Professors in the US (I can show you emails) will investigate why (and make provisions for him for a genuine reason) and never mock him the way you do. It is funny how you have stayed in a Society where people are generally very friendly and willing to help, but it appears not to have rubbed off on you. I surely do hope it is only when you interact with the 'animals and fraudsters' in your so-called 'zoo' that you exhibit such.

A typical American wouldn’t help or listen to your excuses if you don’t meet up to time. The best they can do is to console you and you’ll be left to deal with your problems. Out here, Time isn’t something to be joked around with. You really think Americans are emotional? cheesy

Good day everyone

There is something am concern about

I applied for student visa in US embassy 2011 and was denied due to falsification of bank statement.. I was naive and ignorant then, my travel agent was responsible for everything.. of cause i was banned

I am presently living in Sweden as a student and i want to visit my brother in Canada from here..

My concern is, since i had issues with US embassy.. will it give me problem in Canadian embassy here in Stockholm when applying for their visiting visa?

@justwise

@bolded , mehn that’s one madass crime as far as US Embassy is concerned. They barely forgive anything that has to do with fraudulent. You need to identify the kind of ban you were given maybe it’s a 10years or lifeban. If it’s a 10year Ban, then done bother applying until after 2021 cuz you’ll only be giving them 64k for fun and if it’s a lifetime ban, you probably ain’t gonna see what America is like in this lifetime of yours. Whichever it is, I really wish you all the best bro. undecided

Well I don’t know about any other country, but USA and Canada works hand in hand together like literally they collaborate together. Meaning it’s easier for US Embassy to know if you have had any issue with Canadian Embassy and vice versa.

Don’t ask me how I know pls cuz I know people with first hand experiences

To the best of my knowledge UK denied Reekado Banks a Visit visa t few months ago.. And that was sad.

This US don't or other embassy's don't issue you visa because of popularity or money..
They want Honesty, Intergrity, from the Applicant that's why common kids like Us could go to America..

Nigerians are great people.. The Americans are aware of that.. We the big brother of Africa..

It might not be in our generation that Nigeria might be good.. But some day when realize the we Nigerians contribute 54% of the World Economy.. That's when we be great.. That's when our thinking faculty will change... And that's when with your green passport you allowed 180 days entry without a Visa to the US.

God bless Nigeria.

This is why selecting top schools is vital. Applying for an H1B has become expensive so a lot of low to mid-tier companies will pass on you since they can find an equally qualified American and avoid the legal hassle to employ you. Big companies have dedicated lawyers whose job is to basically treat you like a baby until they get you a GC. You do absolutely nothing and pay zero. It's a nice life if you work hard and know how to navigate the system.

That’s the logic bro. Hard work and being smart! These two logics has really gotten me far ahead! At times I feel I’m being harsh on myself, but then when I look back, I notice how far ahead I have gone and still going! cheesy

It is not that difficult and you should not really worry. Most big companies know how the process works. As soon as they've made the decision to hire you, they will most likely assign a lawyer to you who will walk you through the entire process. Most likely the only thing they will require you to do is fill necessary forms or produce needed information - birth certificate, electronic I94, passport etc. The lawyer will take it from there.

One thing that you should know, there is what is called cap H1B and noncap H1B. If you work for a non-profit (e.g. college/university), your H1B is not counted against the cap (65,000 legally available H1B visas). All you need do is apply through your employer at any time and as long as there is no problem, you should get the H1B very easily.

Alright man, this sounds pretty much relieving. And no I’m not working for no non-profit organizations LoL!

Ideally, for your OPT, you want to apply to companies that would eventually take care of your H1-B and GC (or at least just H1-B). H1-B needs to be filed and approved while you're on OPT, meaning there is really no gap to allow your company to start your H1-B filing once you're done with OPT. The max you get I believe is 12 months + 24 months extension if in STEM, which can give your company up to 2 or 3 chances at the lottery depending on when during the year you get hired and how long your company will eventually take to prepare your application.
Basically, you need to do your research well when submitting job applications on OPT.

There are lots of resources out there online. Just keep reading. At this point you need all the information you can get!

I’m in the STEM category (Computer Science to be precise). And this is why I’m trying to get some upfront information before I enter the industry after school. Thanks for the advise tho. I’ll do further research on that from some senior colleagues too. You guys are doing great jobs on here
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 12 by omoluabiguy: 4:23am On Dec 07, 2017

1. Yes. The advanced degree applies to masters and phd. It's a smaller pool so your chances are slightly higher with a masters at least.

2. Yes. You should always be upfront that you will need sponsorship when applying. There is no upside to hiding that fact. At the tail end of the employment process, almost all major companies will ask you to fill an I-9 employment verification form. They will run your social security number (there is a website where you can run this yourself actually) to verify employment eligibility and/or ask you to provide proof of residence in the US. There is no way they won't find out so just be honest outright. If a company wants you, they will pull out all the stops to get you and get you the visas you need to stay with them.

Here is the rub too, even if the company never asks, that is much worse. It simply means they took your word for it that you are a US citizen and they run payroll for you on that basis. When you now need to file for a green card, that will count against you (as part of your background check, the USCIS will request and review any I-9 form ever filed on your behalf). Most people don't know, but there is one offence that has zero chance to be waived even if you confess - lying that you are a US citizen. Once caught, you will never be allowed to obtain another US visa.

3. I would encourage that you target getting employment with your OPT then pushing for the H1B as quickly as possible.

Thanks man, of course I have no other option of getting employement outside of my F1 status, getting a job after college isn’t the problem, but my worries are based on the H1B processing after employment. Is it an automatic process after getting employed or am I overthinking things? Maybe I need to chill till I get to that bridge before seeking for advise undecided

It's not because they are "very good in all they do". In reality, most of them are mediocre.

What you need to know is that first, only 65,000 H1B visas are available each year by law. There is an extra 20,000 for those with advanced degrees. Every year, the total number of H1B applicants far outstrips the number available within the first day or two when applications become open. For this reason, the allocation is done by random lottery. There are Indian companies that solely specialize in providing Indian cheap labor to major IT companies in the US. These companies (or body shops) account for more than 80% of of H1B applicants. This is the reason why India typically gets over 70% of H1B visas every year. The downside is that everyone else's chances are slimmer because you are going against companies mass applying for thousands of Indians at once.

First bolded: when you say advanced degree, do you mean masters and PhD or just PhD? Whatever the answer to that is, do you mean you have more chances of getting approved for H1B when you have a higher degree compared to Bsc holders?

Second bolded: I totally get the Puzzle as to why Indians get it a lot now which makes the struggle for others stronger. I stick with honesty, but from your view as an experienced person who has been thru the process, Is it advisable to chose “Yes” when applying for a job and the regular questions of “would you need a sponsorship” pops up? I’ll be starting my OPT next year and I think it’s time I need to get exposed to how things are done after school

I would appreciate some explanations on these pls

You do not need to renew your F1 visa as long as you remain in the US all through to the end of your post OPT. However, i will ask you - what are your plans post OPT? I hope you are working on it RIGHT NOW, because May will be here sooner than you expect. If you have an employer, you should be pushing to apply for the H1B (ideally you should have applied in spring 2017 because it is harder to get them now if you're not Indian). Once the OPT expires, unless you renew it, you will be out of status and expected to leave the country so ma'am please get to working on the next phase.

@bolded. I noticed Indians has the highest rate and chances of H1B. No doubt those guys are very good in all they do. Could you explain the bolded why they seem to get approved for H1B a lot compared to other nationalities? We Nigerians always have to work our ass out triple times just to prove ourselves worthy. Pls enlighten me and elucidate on why/how Indians cop the H1B easily Sir undecided angry

****
There are very skillful Nigerians too, but it seems like the Indians has overshadowed everything for the US to even look at other nationalities which makes the competition tougher for one to get noticed

Can you get an adjustment of status from the B1 to F1 in the U.S. without coming back to naija U.S. embassy?

Like you said, it is much easier getting admission and making tuition payment whilst in the U.S. with a B1/B2 visa. The wahala of coming back to naija to go through the process is tiring.

Lol it is much more easier to get F1 in naija than converting B1 to F1 in the U.S

Wake me up when you find someone who has successfully done that as I have never heard of a successful case of converting B1 to F1. grin
