“He has a heart of gold to have left his bike to go look for the woman and return back her money. At a time many of us will say God has answered my prayers, an ordinary okada man returned such a huge sum to the owner, may God reward him”, the trader said emotionally.

The incident happened at Ifelodun Street, Bariga area of Lagos, where they reside.

When the suspect, Muyideen, was caught, his explanations did not prevent the Police at Bariga Division from arresting him for statutory rape which attracts several years of imprisonment if he is tried and found guilty before the Court.

The matter was later transferred to the SCIID Panti, Yaba, for further investigation where Muyideen still insisted that the victim was his girlfriend.

The Police alleged that Muyideen lured the girl to his apartment and engaged her in sex before he was caught and handed over to the Police but he insisted that she was his girlfriend.

After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and subsequently charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court.

When he was arraigned, the prosecutor, Mr. Christopher John, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, ordered for his remand in custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice.

The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice which has been delayed due to the Covid-19 lockdown in the State.

The matter may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds him culpable and recommends his trial for the alleged offence.
