Now I'm currently wrapped up in confusion because a colleague of mine just told me that My CGPA is useless I'm like howww? And she told me that it doesn't start counting from 100L, but from 200L
Now I'm in severe pain because my CGPA of 4.905 is about to go down the drain, all my sleepless night?

So out of curiosity I brought it to my elders on Nairaland to confirm the authenticity of this?

Also I want to clarify from med students, what's the criteria for graduating with a distinction in B.pharm?

I just think the sleepness nights you plan to have in your 200L will improve your CGPA and no useless colleague can change that fact unless you let them.

In fact, I suggest you get new colleagues, but I confess I'm no pharmacist, so perhaps listen more to the experts.

It's now I just understood your question..every GPA counts right from year1.. you having that high GPA is very good..just continue with that and forget about that your novice friend.. maybe he/she just want to make you unserious..

Your 100L CGPA is not waste ooo.
It's inclusive in your general CGPA.
If you continue like this to the end, destinction, lecturing job and awards are waiting for you.

It is still GPA , it's when you get to 200l that it becomes CGPA the C there means cumulative , your school didn't give you guys the proper orientation or maybe you chose not to go. So you grade in 100 level can affect your grade in 400 level
Well your GPA is very is just like your foundation , and it's good don't mind that your colleague

I won't say your Cgpa is useless, I can only tell you that in pharmacy school, the result is unclassified except school like unibadan that still make use of Cgpa for pharmacy. My advice to you is to continue studying hard, pharmacy is not going to be easy. I wish you well and hope you will join us in the Noble profession of druggist.

Hello Jane, a medical student here. I understand what you mean but your GP is not useless, it's the evidence of your hardwork! Be proud you had that however, don't rest on your oars. Work hard to keep having good performances like this till you graduate.

Also, you have a high chance of winning many scholarships so apply for as many as you can

The only time a pharmacy students CGPA is useful in my school is when a pharmacy student graduates as the best student else it is unclassified. But heah! Who says you can't work hard? + your cgpa is a product of how much you've known ... Though not all the time!

Meanwhile I don't know much for pharmacy dept, but in medicine ur year 1 cgpa will go away with year 1.. From Year 2 till u graduate u only need to get 50%, we don't do first class , just BGS(best graduating Student)..

Year 1 CGPA will only give u an edge wen u apply for scholarships though..

Useless in school and after. But if you want Masters outside Naija it can help boost your overall score

We should be careful how we use the word "Medical" In Nigeria they're are only two branches independent in medicine which is "Dentistry and Veterinary medicine" Google the definition of Pharmacy and you will see it is "Allied Health". For clarification it is "Dental student" and "Veterinary student (vet student).
For Generalisation Students in the College of Medicine which may comprise other disciplines are called Medical students.
Pharmacy has its Faculty. We are misusing the word "Medical" and that's why we're having problem in the Health sector.

OP, you're not a medical student rather a pharmacy student cos pharmacy is a faculty on it own not under the department in college of medicine...... your cgpa is good keep it up...

It should count. Perhaps what your colleague was trying to say is that the weight of your 100level cgpa in your final cgpa is low. What that means is that even if you perform badly in your 100 level, but picked up subsequently, you still end up with a good cgpa. For example, the weighted score of 100 level may be 15%, 200 level 25%, 300level 30%, 400level 20%, and 500level, 10%. If u do badly in 100 or 500 level, it may not dent your final cgpa as much as if you did badly in 200, 300, and 400 level. Conversely, if you do very well in 100 and 500 levels, it wouldn't mean much if you do badly in the other levels.

The good thing is that doing well in 100level gives you the impetus to continue going strong. Do not slack. Go girl!
