Colossians 1:24-29

Christ in you. No, I'm not talking about some ooky-spooky New Age concept where Christ is in everyone and everyone is Christ! Far from it! I'm talking about the incredible and critical Christian truth and experience that makes the Christian life something far greater and far more rewarding than just 'trying your best for Jesus!'
It is His presence, His rest and His activity in and through the believer. An experience the Bible calls "Christ in you the hope of glory".

Col 1:24 ' Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.'

The passage starts with a real favourite verse of many tele-evangelists and prosperity preachers the world over. It says ' Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.'
This is an extraordinary verse. Paul said that the sufferings of Christ are not yet full and he rejoices in what he suffers for the churches sake. Is he slightly mad? And in what way do Christ's sufferings carry on?

Now, This verse has even been used by some Roman Catholics to try and support their doctrine of Purgatory (that believers go to a place after death where their sins have to be purged through a time of punishment to make the person fully acceptable and ready to enter Heaven.) Let's make it clear - this verse has nothing to do with any redemptive or atoning suffering - that was all completed when Jesus said 'It is finished' - 'Paid in full!' Nor has this verse got anything to do with suffering after we die! But here Paul rejoices in his suffering and says that he is adding to what is lacking in Christ's afflictions.

Rejoicing in suffering... now that's not a normal human response! [2] Paul, from his prison cell [3], rejoiced in what he could suffer for Jesus' name and the churches sake. People can rejoice in the midst of suffering when they see and believe what God can do through the difficulty. That is the message of the entire Bible. When you are weak, then He is strong. And that means any type of suffering. That is how Paul, and you, can rejoice. That is why Paul is a living walking example of what he is declaring to the Colossians - that Christ in us is our hope of glory. He had learned through countless difficulties that Jesus was all he needed and that Christ's strength was made perfect in his own weaknesses.

Does Jesus' life in you impact your life?
Do you believe that Christ is in you? [6]
Is it simply a mental believe or does it impact your life?
In what ways does it affect your life?
If you believe that Christ is in you, when was the last time you thanked God for that?
Why do you think Jesus Christ would want to dwell in us?
What should our response be to God?
As I mentioned at the start, the central message of the Apostle Paul and the New Testament is 'not I but Christ'. 'It is no longer I that live but Christ that lives in me.' It is a telling sign as to whether your belief is more than head knowledge if you are thanking God for this wonderful truth. Jesus Christ has given you Himself because you do not have what it takes to live the Christian life. And the language of all true faith, when you see this truth, is simply 'thank you!' That is your response to God.

Christ is the hope of every true born again child of God.

Are you passing through tough times? Challenges, trials and temptation?

Is any situation questioning the place of Christ in your life?

Are you caught in the dilema of sleeping with men to get what you need or face disgrace?

Do not worry. Put your trust in God. For the bible says they that put their trust in God shall be like Mount Zion that can never be moved. They shall not be put to shame.

So, no matter what you're passing through at the moment, Christ is fully aware and it in with you. He's also working something out for you. Just believe and keep hoping even against hope.

Jesus Christ who wanted the cup to pass on His weakness, also declared, "...not my will, but yours,(Father) be done." So why take only a part of the message, ignoring the rest?

This cup shall pass in Jesus name.

The Lord is faithful to bring it to pass. If only you can have faith in Him.

Keep hoping until it comes to pass. God is faithful to fufill all His promises concerning us all.
