Yea. Once missed my Air peace flight from Lagos to Owerri around February. flight was scheduled to depart by 7am, left Apapa by 5am. Was a smooth ride, but when i got to maryland, the traffic was mad i eventually had to use bike from Maryland to murtala muhammed airport. Got to the airport by 6:55am, the crowd was hectic over there and unfortunately the terminal gate was closed already, i had to pay extra money to be on the next available flight which was by 8am.. i almost cried that very day. I've vowed never to book a morning flight from Lagos to any destination of my choice from henceforth

Everytime people use traffic as an excuse, I find it very untenable. You must know the city you live in and plan your journey accordingly.

If you have only one opportunity to fly out of the country, or to meet up for a business contract worth billions of dollars.... Wouldn't you factor traffic into your plan?

Other excuse I hate to hear is "....It's raining heavily"

Almost.

Had a Lagos - Abuja flight on a Monday afternoon for a meeting at 4pm in Abuja same day. Left VI at 12pm to get to the airport before 2pm. Smooth sailing from VI to 3rd mainland to Maryland bridge. All of a sudden, mad traffic from Maryland all the way to the airport, we managed to move like a snail to 1/2 kilometres (to the Arik wing), 10 mins to departure, we got down and started running with our suits, on a hot afternoon. Even my Oyinbo boss became Usain Bolt. Baba breezed past me!

We were lucky. We already checked in online, we just rushed to the gate, and some of the guys there congratulated us. We did not miss the flight!

Why did we run, we could have booked another flight? We were going for a meeting to close a massive deal. 5 mins delay would have done a big damage.

Another one, my colleague missed his flight to Jo’burg from Lagos. Traffic wanted to kill us, but we arrived at the airport on time. Only for my colleague to find out that he forgot his passport at home. He raced back (using a bike from the airport to Lekki and back to the airport). Unfortunately, he missed the flight, we saw him running towardsthe gate, the pilots said ‘No, we move’. He joined us in Jo’burg the following day.
Boss kindly put me on
Abeg show me way! Mio shako

Very interesting question.. I will never forget that year in a hurry. Still hurt till today but I believe God spared my life for something bigger. That is the only way I consoled myself.

Almost...Got held up on Lagos-Ibadan expressway for hours...took two bikes with my brother and my two giant travel bags to escape the heavy traffic, and then hired a cab.

Got to the airport 5 minutes late, but was denied entry into to the airline's corner...I did a whole lot of pleading with the Qatar Airways staff...even others joined me, but the pleas fell on deaf ears.

I was however able to board without my luggage because I had earlier checked in online...I had to cough over 200 euro to post my luggage few days later.

Funny enough, my dad kept shouting that morning, "let's get moving son...remember that Lagos traffic is unpredictable"...but deep down I was like "calm down dad...sebi it's just Abk to Lag...time still dey"

My village people tried all they could to stop the journey, they even employed me to shoot myself in the foot...but God pass them. grin

Lesson learnt the hard way...never gonna happen again...the stress I put myself and everyone that went to Lag with me that day through ehn...chai

I missed my flight back to the US in January 2016. I pretty much had to buy a one way ticket to get back to the US by the weekend. Very terrible experience. Lost over a thousand dollars as a result.

Omo, I have missed my flight severally because of traffic. I just get them to offload me (I usually check in online) and I pay the difference and get booked on the next available flight or where there is none, I try another airline.

These days I choose either to (1) Go and stay in the mainland (at Ibis hotel - which is less than 10minutes drive to the airport or (I leave at 4.30am and almost always get to the airport not later than 6am (I operate from the Island).

Missing a flight can be disorienting and usually the entire day gets messed up. I think it hardly happens to me these days though. The solution is to just leave earlier than usual. Better to spend 5 hours at the airport than to rush and still miss. That thing can paiiinnnn....

I have never missed my international flight oo. God forbid. If it is an international flight, I stay at Ibis on Osolo way, airport road. From there even if I am walking, I will get to the airport.

Yes I did miss my flight and it cost me extra 100k+ plus stress and all. I was coming from ikorodu and the traffic on that day was hectic. I travelled a week after and the two weeks hotel I have booked also would not consider me cos I did not call them/the moment I paid it has started reading. I almost fainted, I got sick for like three days but when I finally travelled I forgot all the stress cos my experience in that country was awesome. I spent 3month

Almost, coming from satellite town it was an early morning Airpeace flight to Abuja and you know what it means leaving satellite town to Ikeja MM2 y 4.30 am to meet up 6.00 am flight, it was at 2nd rainbow towards Ilasa that the traffic commenced....

Lagos traffic is mad! And flying bike for that express way na risk by that time of the day ! I think Lagos need to build rail from airport to key areas like Mile 2, V.I and Lekki

That man is the real MVP.

But for Christ sake, what would you be doing at home when you have a flight to catch later in the day?

I cancel all my plans 10hours before flying.
Have to be at the airport 8-5hours before check in especially international flights.
