The last few weeks have been very demanding money wise from my wife who is rounding off with her HND at one of the polytechnics in the south east. According to her, at the end of every paper of exam written an announcement is made to the class for those who are interested in sorting. (Can you imagine) the worst is even if you read your heads out to prepare for the paper you are just wasting your time because at the end if you don't sort you are on your own and it really pisses me off cus my wife is very intelligent and smart when it comes to her studies.6k for 10 courses can you imagine, not text book bought or money paid for project topic. to submit the project nko, money. her own supervisor don't even want anybody to defend there project after completion only just pay his fixed price on the project 30k. Same thing is happening with my brother who is also in another institution in the south east. He sorted all courses with 50k because its a must. What is really going on, cus I can vividly remember during my time in school, You go read your head go burst even to an extent you start cramming text book. But now it's all about the money.
Is it that lecturers are under paid in Nigeria now or it's just greed and the normal corruption that have bedeviled our society, it's really worrisome cus it's going to affect this generation of graduate going into the labour market.
What's your take, are you as a student whether before or presently facing same menace of sorting in higher institutions?. God help us.

During my time it happened too, but it was optional. Once you are good, you are set to go.

Even private Universities. The one I attended was very notorious with the issue of sorting, you submit almost all your assignment with a token of 1k and after exams you are also expected to sort. The issue is a menance in our Universities. Some go as far as sleeping with female students, tell your wife to be vigilant

I think this has become a general thing in Nigeria. It is also becoming disturbing.

I had 3 girls almost as if it was planned beg me for assistance in January and when I asked what for they said it was for sorting...I was forced to help one and refused assisting d others on the ground that I ain't comfortable with the idea. (I invest in peoples education without thinking twice knowing how school in Nigeria can be)

I went to school and never heard the word sorting, it was never a thing. seems more like a norm now and has to be stopped.

When did I graduate? Feels like yesterday. Never used my ears to hear anything like sorting.

I can't speak for all schools, and departments, but I think it's disreputable universities that do it... or students who just won't study to pass their exams.


If you don't need sorting, don't sort., and nothing will happen.

My brother the corruption in the education system of Nigeria is terrible, worst part is that it is often over looked but it's bad, lectures in my school back then demanded for sex from female students in order for them to graduate.

A lecturer will tell you openly, "if you don't see me nobody will pass". submit your assignments with #500 each. now calculate #500 multiply by 100 students. op we students are just trying to do what we can do too pass and move on with our lives. during my exam last week I saw a 2011 reg number for an economics exam, the lady has not graduated because she refused to do the needful, now she's bearing the burnt mark...
