All Lagos main market are well organized, but you need to know exert sectors of market you intend to visit. This because farm produce are place sector by sector. Vegetables and Pepper are in the same sector, while fruits and some orhers are sell at different sector. Plantain has is on sector too.

If you are need at Mile 12, plantain sector is at Owode-Elede...direct opposite Enyo Gas Station.

If you want to bring you goods I will advise you to move in the night or early in the morning before day brake. Not because of anything just because of Lagos enforcement agencies like LASTMA, VIS and Police they will extort you, be vigilant.

If this your first time to come to the market, Olobe will be approaching you they are there to help you sell your goods. You will drop your goods and it will be in their custody till day brake. By 6am market is open for sell. Buyer will be available to buy your goods. The buyer will price your goods base on sizes, I mean how big it's and season or period you want to sell it.

Olobe will be show that this is amount the buyer want to buy it, did you agree. If you agree he will sell it. Remember you sell per dozen. If you are note certify with the amount you can decide that you can't sell it at that price. Another buyer will definitely come.till you are ok with the price.Olobe will not collect anything percentage from your money, unless you wish to dash him some fraction. He will collect owo-iso from buyer per dozen. It is buyers that will pay owo-iso...N500 per dozen and if decides to cut the Plantain into pieces buyers will also pay 100 per dozen owo PSP....

Have u ever think about risk on buy plantain directly from farmer and sell it elsewhere market...Did you Know that your vehicle can got spoil along the road which can take 2-3 days before it can be fixed. Your plantain can got ripe within this period which will affect your sales at market. These are many more challenge excounter when u buy from one farm to another for sale. At end of the day you can sell it less than cost price.

My farm of maize and cassava is almost taken over by grasses, even though i sprayed with premergence herbicide (atrazine) before planting.
Please recommend a selective herbicide for maize and cassava inter croped. (Planted together)

But in respect of your questions, I don't think there is any specific herbicide that selective to both maize and cassava. I will advise you to use your spraying skill perfectly...use any glyphosate and direct your nozzle on ground and make sure it doesn't touch leave of both cross, especially maize....or you should try to hire labourer to do the clear for you.

Factors that affect the price of Plantain in Market

These factors may either increase the price of Plantain in the market or decrease it. These are :

1. The sizes of your plantain. (Big or Small sizes)
2. The season you harvest your Plantain
3. The market you choose to sell your Plantain
4. Inflation in the country

On different occasions I have explained all these factors before, but people are keep asking for it later, that is why I will need to explain a bit on this page.

1. The size of your plantain took a lot , This will determine the amount you will sell your plantain in market. The biggest size and full, if I say full, that mean those who have 20-30 fingers fruits. This is also call No 1. Most buyer go for this kind of plantain. They choose to buy it at any amount you call it.
For smaller sizes, there are some buyers who can't afford to buy big bunches, they go for smaller or medium sizes. The price for these will be determine by market force. How many numbers of trucks come to market to sell and buyers capacity..Demand and supply will determine.
This is where we need efforts of ministry of commence and industry to wake up from there slumber, they should introduce weight scale method for us. So that there will be win-wun situation like fish and other frozen products.

2. Season.
This another major factor, this is because we have glutting period and scarcity period of plantain. This is not only peculiar to plantain alone. Also on other crops too.
During glutting period, majority of farmers on cultivated on upland harvest there produce toward any of the year. This will lead to massive produce of plantain. Damand and supply will set in, where products is more than demand, automatically the price will fall down in the market.

This is between late October till early February of everything year. If you notice, you will see that around this period, people will be eating roasted plantain. When it March till October of every year the demand for Plantiain will be minimal this because only those farmers who have farm on swamp area will be have plantain this period and only small portion of upland. This price of plantain will be on higher side. Only few people can consum or eating roasted plantain around this period because the price is on higher side. The peak of this is May/June. People will rather go for corn to eat than Plantain or roasted plantain.

The only factor that may affect this is level of rainfall. Like last year in southern part of Nigeria rainfall was poor between July till October. This really affect farm produce which affect the harvest from that region. Till the price of foods community in on higher side.

3. Market

This is another factor that affect the price you sell your Plantain. When you are planning your farm you will need to think of market where you intend to sell your products. This market must not be too far from your farm because of transport fare.

Because you choose market where you sell your and you need to consider those people that are patronizing the market, if they have financial muscle to buy your goods. For example if you choose to sell your goods at Mile 12 in Lagos and another farmer choose to sell his or her market at Ajah market in the same Lagos. They will sell the same product at different price. People reside in Lekki, VGC and Ajah will have financial muscle to buy it any price you choose to sell it while people in Mile 12 will keep dragging the price with you.
In short both of them will end up sell at different price. This is also applicable to other local market too depend on people patronizing them.
Another example is Bidija market in Ibadan, you can't compare the price you sell your products with Mushin market in Lagos.

4. Inflation In country
There is general inflation in country as a result of poor management of economy system from government. The price of all commidiity has been sky rocket, where plantain is not left out. Ever since 2010 I started plantain farming business, no matter the sizes or how big it may be, a dozen have never sold for 50k. This can be observe this year. To my surprise I sold a dozen 50k at Mile 12 market. You too can findout today. Visit Mile 12 market at Owode-Elede along ikorodu road Lagos. Be there very early hour around 6-7am ask for how much they sold No 1 dozen. You will be surprised to hear the price they will tell you.
I think this as a result of inflation in our economy also due to lack or rainfall by middle of last year which force those who has upland farm out of market. I am very sure that these and some of this may lead to high cost of farm produce....

To idebtfy if your plantain is ready for harvest eat or none.
Firstly, none mature one will show light Green while mature one will show deep Green.
2ndly, at end of each finger there will be black dot that show it ready for harvest..
3rdly, the whole Plantiain will bend toward the direction of weight of the fruit.
4tghly, one or two of Plantain fruits will burst.

In short you easily differentiate from ready to Hartford none. Just common sense need to apply...

My brother thank for your observation, it doesn't mean anything, I just pick any market as a case study. Moreover Mile 12 is the closest market to my farm. Oke- Afa at isolo is there, ile-Epo market at Abule -Egba is there too. You may choose to decide to patronize of of these market.

But I will advise to go to market where people from Benin do patronize, this is because they have large volume of goods than any others part of this country, they are the one control the price of Plantain in Lagos or Abuja.

If you sign then in large number try to visit another market where they are not many because they will fall the price if plantain on that day.

But if they are limited, you too can join them.

Mix or combination of two or more type of fertilizer

For your maximum out put, your can apply two or more different type of fertilizer. The purpose of fertilizer is to replace loss micro-nutrients at a specific soil. There are different kind of fertilizer and serve different purpose on soil. Before you apply fertilizer on your soil, you need to be certify that there are certain or specific kind micro-nutrients that is absent on a soil which is essential for the growth of your crop.

There will be sign from leave, stem and fruits of your your crops. Some of the signs are colour display by your crops or stunting growth. You can meet expert or contact below mobile for more.

You will need to correct this abnormally this because it will affect the final yield if not control.

Fertilizer combination in plantain give maximum out put. If your mix Urea fertilizer with NPK, Urea will assist in growing while NPK will assist in fruiting. If mix in appropriate proportion at end of the day you will smile to bank.

These are many more are steps to be taken to achieve maximum out put.
