News broke yesterday of the killing of an ESN commander Ikonso and "six others". But Beneath the media sensation which expectedly followed lies the question of competence of Nigeria armed forces.

It was initially reported that the ESN commander and six of his men were killed in an ESN base during a raid by the police, with the police incurring no loss. This would have been a fair win from the police to me.
But later it was learnt that it was actually a combined special force operation from Army, police , DSS, Irt from Abuja that lead the ambush operation in which only two ESN men were killed and several security operatives including police and army were killed by few ESN men. The army initially denied casualty but has now admitted it lost four men . Considering the low pedigree of our armed forces when it comes to transparency, the figures could be close to ten men as claimed by people on ground, not including security officers killed during reprisals yesterday. The worrying part is that the military hierarchy are celebrating when actually they incurred more loss.

Note these were almost the best guys drawn from our security agents. Note also that the killed guy has been contacted by the Governor to head the SE vigilante ebubeagu, which made his identity vulnerable to attack. If the prevailing celebration mood of our military hierarchy truly reflect their mindset despite loosing more men and risk of heavy escalation, it means they are fighting a war in which army will most likely be overwhelmed in the nearest future.

For a country fighting in it's northeast, northwest and now Southeast, it just a matter of time before the army is overwhelmed.

which begs the logical question if he was killed in an ambush and the army had these high casualties...u can only imagine the casualties if it was not an ambush....

I heard that 7 Soldiers, 4 policemen and 1 Dss was killed from someone living close to that area. Following the reprisals by ESN on Uzodimma house and killing of 3 security agents guarding his home i.e 2 policemen and 1 Civil defense guy. Plus the 2 policmen gunned down at Awo Omamma Junction. The scores was like 17:2 in favour of ESN. I wonder why some people are rejoicing everywhere. We should be more concerned that at least 15 security agents lost their lives on a single day to a rag tag group. Seriously, I now realize we don't have security in this country. I am PAINFULLY worried. Please my people, let peace reign.

Nigeria has no professional military, please don't allow the bunch of militants in uniform turn the south east to a killing field

Op this has been my worries since I heard this news. The combined special team surely was well selected as I believe there were plans and strategies marked out before this operation. The guy in question may not even have had a clue of what is coming to him at that hour. Our team with the information and more men specially trained for this kind of operation should have upper hand. In an ambush like this, I didn't expect them to lose any man on that team.
If these boys make true their threat, there maybe heavy casualties henceforth on the side of security outfits in SE and SS. Those soldiers there may not even have the special kind of training that this team has.

Dialogue is the key to deescalating the tensed situation in the east but what do I know?

The silent from the region since the start of this shoot out shows a solid support and the greatest mistake the government will make is to deploy troops into the region ...

Peace and peace is what this country need right now...

Bullets doesn't kill an ideology cos if it does the biafra movement would have died since 2015.

honestly speaking those army guys were dealt a heavy blow but its the pride and arrogance that is making them to celebrate which they shouldn't be doing if they truly value the lives of their personnel that died during the operation. and they were rejoicing while the families of those that died are in sorrow... but ESN that they tagged as ragtag are mournin the loss of their personnel which goes to show how lives are valued by both groups

We have seen enough of terror but the day that cowardly attack of Igbos turn into full war & lead military to deploy similar weapons and fighter jets used in NE will be the day when your next generation will not underestimate Nigerian military!

And when you deploy all those, Book haram in the north east and armed bandits in the north west would just sit down and wait for you to finish such operation before they resume?

Victory is judged by how efficiently a force uses the resources at its disposal to achieve maximum result. what happened yesterday was far from victory. The army guys were rejoicing as though the Ikonso guy was Biafra himself.

But Boko Haram is underestimating Nigeria military. Does it mean they have sympathy towards the terrorists North East?

You need to know the damages BH is suffering from NA. The only thing I know is media enjoy reporting the victory of Boko boys. BH had the capacity to attack UN house & NPF headquarters, and some strategic places in Abuja and environ. Thousands used to be massacred in mosques and markets, Tertiary institutions theatres were not spared, prominent people fled abroad and more secured places all between 2012-2015 but today there is zero existence of BH in the entire North except Borno and some parts of Yobe and Adamawa.
Insurgency is difficult to finish completely.
The most painful thing to note abt this war is; UN have rules of engagement, u can't used heavy weapons on rebels yet Amnesty International is accusing Buratai for using excessive force on insurgents and attacking them when not on battle field which consequently affect the purchase of weapons from the signatory nations to that rules.

I remembered when Apc was in the opposition , they celebrated the defeat of the Nigerian Millitary over the Boko haram terrorist , just to score cheap political point and to hunt & rubbish Jonathan administration .
They in-fact, they always made reference to what the media had In stock . Weither it is false or not . The nations (Tinubu’s newspaper paper was guilty of such )
So why are they complaining ? Bunch of devilish hypocrite
