The Igbo people of south eastern Nigeria are known for their special culinary skills. They have a variety of meals that would leave you licking your fingers. This is one of the many great reasons why men want to marry Igbo ladies because they know deep down, they would be getting a buffet of delicious meals. The Igbos are known for some distinct soups that would leave you asking for more, so without further ado, here are 5 Igbo soups that you should try

5. Ofe Egusi

Perhaps this is one of the most popular Igbo soups in the land. The Egusi soup is a delight, especially when you pair it with Pounded yam. Egusi soup is prepared in a number of ways but in the end, it still comes out delicious!

4. Ofe Onugbu

Onugbu means bitterleaf. You would be wondering how bitterleaf soup would become so sweet. Well this writer can tell you that once you try this soup, you might sell your birthright. It goes very well with Eba or Pounded yam.

3. Ofe Akwu

This is another popular soup in Igbo land. It is the palm nut soup, when properly made can be used to eat rice as well. The Igbos use fufu to devour this sumptuous meal.

2. Ofe Oha

This is one of the most popular soups in Igbo land. The Oha tree grows mostly in Enugu, but the whole of Igboland holds this delicious soup to their heart. We would advise you to go to the nearest restaurant where they sell Oha and come back to tell the testimony of this wonder soup.

1. Ofe Nsala

This is like the Ferrari of all soups. The Nsala soup is King. If you visit an Igbo home and they serve you Nsala soup, please note that they value your visitation. In fact, they want you to be part of the family. Also, they give the soup to new mothers as the absence of oil in the soup is appealing to them.

Oha is my village soup. They hardly cook any other soup, only oha. In fact, each compound has its own oha tree.

Give me a plate of well prepared egusi soup any time any day. Youll be in my good books. smiley

Wow! these soups are looking so yummy. I love to have chicken and veggies soup in winters. By the way, tomato soup is also tasty for summer use.
