Dapo Abiodun: No Plan To Stop Minimum Wage by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 9:39pm On May 03, 2021
Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun at the weekend allayed the fears of the state civil servants over the rumour making the rounds that the government was planning to stop the minimum wage.

Governor Abiodun, who said this, while hosting labour leaders and members of League of Imam and Alfas in the state to Ramadan Iftar, at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, the state capital, assured the labour leaders that government would continue to improve on the welfare of workers being the engine room of government

He said his administration had intensified its revenue drive and uncovered other areas to generate enough revenue to sustain the steady growth in the state.

The governor urged the labour leaders and the clerics to assist the government in encouraging people to take the COVID-19 vaccination.

He harped on the need for people to take the vaccine to mitigate the spread of the pandemic, stressing that the vaccine stimulates the body system as it neutralizes the effects of the COVID 19 in the body if one gets infected.

While disclosing that the state government had taken delivery of another batch of the vaccine, he declared that the Ogun State recorded the highest number of people vaccinated in the country.

He admonished the labour leaders to join hands with his government in persuading their members to be part of the ongoing vaccination exercise, noting “it has no side effects”.

Describing the month of Ramadan as a period of purification and sober reflection to strengthen one’s relationship with Allah, Abiodun urged the Muslims to use the period to pray for the country, stressing that the insecurity and other challenges militating against the nation would soon fizzle out through the help of prayer.

He posited that war is not an alternative, stating that the security architecture of the state is fundamental to the current administration and would do everything possible to reduce criminality across the state.

Earlier in their respective remarks, the Ogun State Chairmen of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Bankole, his counterpart from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Olubunmi Fajobi, and that of Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Olarenwaju Folorunso, commended

Abiodun for the immense achievement recorded in every sector in the state including the willingness to pay the outstanding workers’ salary deductions.

They promised to continue supporting the incumbent administration in its determination to transform the state.

Addressing the Islamic clerics led by the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Sa’adalah Bamgbola, Governor Abiodun reassured that the current administration in the state would continue to partner the religious leaders for the growth of the state.

The governor commended the body for promoting peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.

Describing the clerics as important to the enthronement of good governance, Abiodun said the Iftar was organized in appreciation of the contributions of the Muslim Community for being supportive during and after the 2019 general elections.

The governor explained that the current administration since its inception has been working round the clock in improving the condition of the state through the provision of necessary infrastructural amenities for the benefit of the people.

This, according to him, is in fulfillment of his promises during the electioneering, describing the current administration as “a silent achiever who doesn’t make noise on the pages of newspapers about its achievements”.

While urging the clerics to continue supporting his administration with prayers, the governor promised that his government would ensure that the existing mutual relationship between the government and the religious body is sustained by doing things that please and unite the people of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the League, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Sa’adalah Bamgbola, thanked the governor for the respect accorded the Muslim Community and for demonstrating a trait of ‘Omoluabi’ by keeping to his promise to the people of the state.

He assured that the religious body would continue to support the governor with prayers to ensure that he excels in the ongoing restructuring and repositioning of the state.

Good Governance by Guv Abiodun.
We have said this few times on this forum.
We reiterate below.....

HOW NIGERIA CAN PAY MINIMUM WAGE COMFORTABLY..........

1. Abolish SECURITY VOTE in NIGERIA. Nigeria will pay N45,000 minimum wage comfortably.

2. a) Abolish CONSTITUENCY PROJECT FUNDS
b) Reduce number of ADVISERS to SENATE PRES(2), HOUSE SPEAKER(2), GOVs(4), PRESIDENT(5), VP(2)
c) Reduce current ALL Political Office Holders PAY CHEQUES by 51.5%, without exception
d) Do away with special remuneration to POLITICAL ADVISERS & PUBLIC SERVANTS e.g; Purchase of Private Vehicles, Houses, granting Govt paid Vacations, paying for 1st & Business Class Transportations, etc, etc...
e) Abolish payment of OVERSEAS MEDICAL BILLS for Political Office Holders.
f) Eliminate PRIVATE PRACTICE in public workforce
g) Eliminate participation of Public Workforce in Partisan Politics.
h) Institute EMPLOYMENT BY MERIT, and eliminate UNDEREMPLOYMENT.
i) Review and eliminate allocation of Govt paid POLITICAL AIDES & SUPPORT STAFF to Political Office Holders.

With (1) + (2) Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N65,000 comfortably

3. Move Nigeria MORE to Private Sector Driven Economy
a) Privatise ALL of Federal Govt PARASTATALS & reduce Federal Direct Funded AGENCIES to 68% of the present.
b) Privatise ALL of STATE Govt PARASTATALS & reduce State Direct Funded AGENCIES to 19% of the present.
c) Reduce current DIRECT LABOUR JOB participation by 49%
d) Encourage more Working Hours until Nigeria economic stabilizes
e) Discourage UNIONISM in Public Workforce

With (1) + (2) + (3), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N101,500 comfortably.

4) Institute DEATH PENALTY to proven THEFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS no matter how little, and LIFE Jail Sentences for COLLABORATORS.

With (1) + (2) + (3) & (4), Nigeria would pay a minimum wage of N203,500 comfortably.

GOD BLESS NIGERIA

I was given a task to measure the level of relationship between the citizens and the legislators in Ogun state.

Please I would like you to fill this 2- minutes survey form if you are a resident of Ogun state, Nigeria. It would go a long way in helping me thanks.

Hmmmmm ... Without FG monthly allocations, most States cannot definitely. IGR of most States cannot sustain them. Heard somewhere that the FG is trying to move minimum wage to concurrent list. A rumour though but such will collapse most States due to strikes by workers...... Oga, you know these recommendations is not just possible with the crops of politicians we have today. The high cost of electioneering campaign will not allow them agree to those recommendations. Though it was a rumour but we all know most of these States cannot sustain themselves without FG allocations. Just few States IGR is good enough to sustain them. How will a State like Yobe that has been under terrorist attack for years raise an IGR to pay her workers? So many things are not just right with the structure of the country dear. Let's think inward to see how even States can sustain themselves without FG intervention. Probably, true federalism where the States now pay tax to the FG. That'll also see some of these States merging with others just like what's attainable in the banking sector today...... Meanwhile Fayemi of Ekiti state has begun to delay payment of salaries, systematically changing payment dates from once in 4 weeks to once in 6 weeks. Before you know it he will increase to once in two months. Meanwhile his own "minimum wage payment" only increased by 2k, 3k, 5k across all cadres. Can't say of political appointees, but the maximum increment in minimum wage I heard was 5 thousand naira.

Meanwhile the dude has refused to remit the cooperative dues of workers for about 5 months now. So in effect, some civil servants that contribute half of their salaries to cooperative savings effectively get paid half salary but the other half is stuck in government purse. Yet when people now decide to kukuma opt out of cooperative and start getting their full salary, Fayemi placed a ban on opting out. grin grin. People say they don't want to do cooperative again, you say no, you must do the do. Shey na by force to do cooperative wey no pay money?

The other time he was talking rubb1sh on channels TV about people not travelling out for greener pastures especially the common destination Canada, talking one nonsen5e "glass ceiling" as if the Nigeria he contributed to building get platform before even thinking of getting a ceiling. He will be talking nonsen5e turenchi upandan as if that is what citizens will eat.

I just feel worried for my peeps back home, sincerely.

not the amount of the minimum wage is the koko, the total amount of wages to be paid is the main thing.

okay, think about this, assuming a state is generating like total of N20,000 revenue...

so in that revenue, other expenses(capital and recurrent expenditure) will be financed from the N20,000(revenue).

let's now say the total recurrent expenditure to be paid is now N15,000 from the Revenue amount, so the remaining amount will now be N5,000 and capital expenditures are still there oo, which the money won't be enough again to finance that...

so since resources are limited, they have to try and cut their expenses without overwhelming the revenue much in order to at least reach some certain sectors in the state by rationalising everything...

so, the only solution to this, is for the state to keep generating revenue. which is not easy.

unless they will use heavy tax to choke everyone if they want to generate more revenue.
