BREAKING: Obaseki Threatens To Shut Down AAU Indefinitely If Students’ Protest by ChrisOsaEdo(m): 5:00am On May 05, 2021
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has urged students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, to support ongoing reforms to reposition the institution.

The governor said this during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Student Union Government (SUG) led by the President, Osamagbe Eghobamien at the Government House in Benin City.

Obaseki urged the students not to allow themselves to be used by some elements within the school community to distract the government from its vision to reposition the institution.

He said, *“I need to do some real clean up in your school. It is in your interest to stay and persuade your colleagues because if there is any strike action and the school is shut down by the government, it is not going to be in your interest.*

*“Your school, as far as I am concerned, is open. If you people have gone on strike, we want to resolve that. I advise the other unions to be responsible. Please do whatever you can to advise them. They are pushing us to take a certain decision that will not be in your interest.*

*“Let the rest of your colleagues know this: I don’t want to do what they are pushing me to do. Strike as a tool for negotiation is old fashioned. I have a choice to leave the school as it is so that you guys can resolve the problems that you have, but over time, your certificate will not be worth much and you can’t do much in the world with it except we reposition the school to be more forward-looking,” he noted.*

Obaseki added, “Let us face the problems once and for all. I know we like shortcuts. The world has changed. For us as a government, whatever will not last, we will not do.”

The deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu noted: “As a government, it’s about.... https://chrisosamedia.com/2021/05/04/breaking-obaseki-threatens-to-shut-down-aau-indefinitely-if-students-embark-on-planned-protest-tomorrow-2/

Nothing new, Lucky igbinedion once shutdown the school during year 1999/2000.

The revenue accruing to the govt from the school will also be lost as some students will change school like I did then.

Lol.....I told some of my friends that obaseki second term in office will be disastrous and regrettable. This is just the beginning of many things to come. Edo is gradually going back to the days of lucky igbinedion

Even the write up is clear enough. That's the intendment of the governor. He should pay up and stop the threat. E get luck say na children full school now. He can't try this in our time. He wan die? Dat government house gate will be barricaded. We'll cook and sleep there indefinitely while other groups will block Ekpoma highway. Even the stupid sug is sold out. We beat up our sug president that yr for hostel matter when we suspected compromise not to talk of being at home when other schools are running. This governor has a track record of failure especially in higher education in the state. As we speak ekiadolor, iguoriakhi, school of health have been shut down for yrs in the name of cleaning up the system.

Ok ooooo....

You also know that once there is a protest, good or bad, right or wrong, the school is shut to forestall chaos.

I know you didn't support him, be calming down.

Nonetheless, I will like to ask a question: There was an issue with that school during Oshiomhole's time that prompted the one at Iyamho, and also same during Lucky's time.

As a former student there, what really is the problem of AAU and the State Govt?

I have people there who are depressed already. They can't even be mobilized for service. Some are tied down in final year. It's so sad because it's not a national strike. Very painful to see your colleagues in other schools leaving you behind.
