Many die suddenly after been retrenched or retired because most of them have never engaged in any business before, so going into business they have never tried before bring about lost of their hard earn pension and gratuity to 419 or wrong business.

My mum retired at 61 with 7 figures in naira after working for almost 25 years, failed to take my advice by converting the naira to $ in mid 2019, now it's worth 25% less of it's worth in USD....last month I made her entire pension under 2 weeks........my advice to any young person: hustle and work smart early in life, no distractions, no liabilities just lazer focused on your hustle, keep grinding till you're financially strong at 30, retire at 32 and relocate to gambia, get married at 40.
Don't waste your fvckin youth.

REALITIES OF RETIREMENT

1) You are no longer popular in your office.
2) Avoid going to your former office without invitation. Where it's absolutely necessary inform an officer of your visit so that you can be received.
3) Know that not everyone liked you while at work & now have an opportunity to snob you.
4) Keep in touch with your coursemates as you grow in retirement because some Pharaohs in Egypt may not know your Joseph.
5) Attend celebration of coursemates. Its always a reunion with lots of fun.
6) Only a few of the people you assisted (including family members) will come around to see you often. To others you have nothing to offer.
7)Plan your days & follow your plan. Sometimes when you look at your uniform with all the medals, you have a feeling of emptiness. Get yourself occupied.
cool Traveling is great, visit places of interest and enjoy your travels.
9) Eat right, enjoy your meals but down excessive sugar, salt, fats and oils.
10) Do your medical check-up even when you feel healthy.
Enjoy your retirement.

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

Build your own house where you will live in your old age.
Build businesses that will feed you in your old age.

Create conveniences that will engage you in your old age.

Build friendship and goodwill that will serve you in your old age.

Right now, start to be relevant in your mosque or Church and community so you could be reckoned with in your old age.

* Old age could be very lonely and agonising for men who did not plan for it.
* May you not become a liability on your children in your old age.
* May your children not wish you an early death when they can't manage you again in your old age.

An old age without penny in your pocket is a slow, agonising death sentence!

Be warned now...!
There are three categories of people you cannot do without as we are growing older, your family, people in your place of worship and childhood friends, who include your Old School mates.

Friends, take it or live it, at 60 and above, loneliness kills because the children you are working hard for now will go their way to raise their own immediate families and pursue their own destinies, just as we did now. At that time it's these people in these 3- categories that take away loneliness and keep your company.

At 50 years and above, you have 10 to 15 years of active working life.

Respect friendship and value relationship.
mehn you just literally nailed it especially the part you wrote about the children that will go their different ways to raise their own family.
Some have abandoned their parents infact as it stands now I'm the only one now with the onus of taking care of my parents. I have informed my wife to be that my parents don't have anyone else to cater for them so they will be living with us under my care till the day God calls them and if she does not welcome the idea then she might as well quit the marriage as the door is open for her to leave

I want to travel now I'm young not during retirement. Do you know how it looks dinning out in some of the finest French restaurants but with dentures on? How about hiking mt everest in old age, will I make it to the summit without having a heart attack? How about skydiving, can I do that in old age? Enjoy your youth while saving for retirement if God spares your life to see retirement age.
Craze man grin grin
Fact is we pray for a healthy long life. Man proposes, God disposes.
Own your retirement home. Have some savings. Live modestly. Inculcate decent values in your kids. Have a side income in old age to supplement pension. Hope and pray. Leave the rest to God.

Apt.

Deadbeat dads, remember those kids will show up for you ONLY IF YOU WERE INVOLVED IN THEIR GROWING UP PHRASE.

Gone are the days when" pikin must find him papa or mama sef".

Show love to your immediate (especially) and extended family!

Modified: Especially mothers, the kind of "mothers" we have nowadays ehhhhn ,try your kids !!!!
Train them .
I have a friend that is doing very, very well but hardly remember the mum ,the mum chose to buy meetings wrappers and expensive asoebis to spending on her kids .
She's presently living in a room bacher in Epe while the kids are doing well. embarassed embarassed embarassed

Op, trying to make sense, but with so many inconsistiences.
First of all, and only i will comment about, retirement age is 60, not 50.
Judges and professors even have longer ones like 70 or so.
This op must be a staff of one of those pension PFAs painting a rosy picture here. Retire and go to their office and u will see hell.

You are talking of retirement when most people in the zoo are jobless and homeless

we need to first liberate ourselves first and plan how to build a better country then retirement will come along.

You better master the art of solitude from your young age. Don't let your life revolve around other people when it comes to overcoming feelings of loneliness. Learn deep meditation. That way you are not dependent on outside factors to avoid loneliness. If you grow old and still have your real friends alive, fine if not, life goes on. Nobody leaves here alive and old age is just another stage that will end. You won't be the first or the last.
