Why North Doesn't Want Nigeria To Break Up — Arewa Consultative Forum by Insecurity(m): 9:21pm On May 10, 2021
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has revealed that Northern Nigeria will never support secession calls because there's nothing wrong with the extant structure in the country.

Across the country, calls for secession have continued to gain momentum.

There are the Indigenous People of Biafra in the South-East while there are agitators for the independence of the Oduduwa nation in the South-West.

But in an interview with SaharaReporters on Monday, ACF's spokesman, Emmanuel Yawe, said the North can never support secessionists because Nigeria is relatively okay the way it is.

Yawe further stated that secession attempts would only worsen the problems ravaging the country and could even lead to a civil war.

He said, “There is no way any part of Nigeria will secede without a civil war. We are so integrated that it is impossible for us to sit at a conference table and allow each part to go their ways, it's not possible, it's not a tea party, there will be war. If any part of Nigeria wants to secede, there will be war, maybe even more serious war than what we had before between 1967 and 1970. So, if anyone is calling for secession, he's calling for war.

“And we in the North fought the war to keep this country together, so it will be a contradiction for those of us who tried to stop this country from breaking up to now be engaging in activities that will break this country; we don't want this country to break up. Nigeria is a great country as it is. We have problems but those problems are not enough for us to break up.

“We believe these problems can be remedied and these problems will only be multiplied if we go into war. We love the country. We don't like what some people are doing with the country but for us to have come from the biggest black nation on earth, it is an honour and we should try to preserve this honour. We should try to see how we can use the resources we have to build a great world power. The rest of Africa is looking up to us and they feel sad when we behave as if we want to break up the country they all look up to. We don't want the country to break up. It is better the way it is, even with all the problems.”

The national leader of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, had also earlier explained why the North would never want the country to break up.

Adebanjo, who had always consistently called for restructuring, recently condemned the unyielding attitude of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to calls for constitutional reforms and resource control.

Adebanjo had over time explained that the current constitution favourably places Northern Nigeria over the South.

He was quoted as saying, “...The constitution we have now is an imposed constitution by the military and the problem we are having in the country now is because of this constitution.

“People should get that clear. It appears both Garba Shehu and his boss, Muhammadu Buhari, don’t want to address the question. I have said that this constitution is a fraudulent constitution; it is not the constitution we agreed on at independence. It is not the constitution Sir Ahmadu Bello, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the founding fathers of this country agreed on at independence. Whether you are talking about resource control, state police, all these agitations have been settled and that is what is causing the crisis in the country today.

“So, when the military said they are going back to the barracks in 1999, Afenifere and the National Democracy Coalition (NADECO) said ‘send us back to the constitution you met us with because this is not the constitution of our founding fathers.’ So, the question of restructuring is to restructure the country back to federalism which our founding fathers agreed on.

“This unitary form of government with all its impositions which have enslaved the South to the North was imposed on us by the military.

“It is the military that created more states in the North; it is the military that created more local governments in the North. It is the military that said that revenues would be shared on the basis of local governments and you people are not addressing it. These are questions you need to answer; why is that so? You don’t stay in a club that is not favourable to you.”

If it is war that will bring the division, then war it is. You are not God to tell us that the evil structure is right. Nigeria isn't the first country to divide. Many better managed and stronger countries have disintegrated before because of differences.
Biafra MUST be free by any means possible.

....Every other region except from the North can thrive on their own. All the facts checks out. There is not one thing the north can boost of, except from good road, and some corporation headquarters that will gladly and quickly relocate to sw, Lagos. Once they country splits.

The greatest mistake is still committing the same mistake. Over the years the northern part have diverted more than half of the country's financial resources and the only thing to show for is the road..

1. No real estate development in the north compared to other region
2. No recreational centre in the north compared to other region.
3. No industry like other region
4. Low contribution to the country's GDP, even lesser than 20%
6. I can go on and on.

THE ONLY THINK THEY'VE KEPT FOR THEMSELVES IS
1. WEAPON. one just think they already know the country splitting is inevitable that the individual, government are stacking weapons.

2. Vulnerable diseases. They have different diseases that I only even discovered seeing someone from the north have it. (I never knew someone can be alive without the skin covering the nose. You can see literally see the throat from the nose region. First and only time I saw that was a northerner. )

The north can never last 5 months on their own.
They have received so many international Help for disaster, diseases, poverty and refugees more than 20times other region.

Idiat ! You need your head examined.
No one down south is afraid of war.
Stop the fantasy of a monolitic north like a dunce. North is divided never to be one again.
Nigeria is already disintegrated for good.
Only those still living in delusional grandeurs can't see that.

These parasites don't seem to understand that the country is already gone. As the country is today, no leader, even if He comes from Heaven can be able to reverse the level of damage done to this country by the current administration. The truth is: We never had it this bad since 1960.

So when married couples are parting ways, they FIRST FIGHT before heading to customary courts. What a FOOLISH assertion!
Couples separate peacefully despite having kids..
The War will be different this time around.
These Guys are mad.

So UNITY is now by force?
What stops my WIFE from divorcing me tomorrow if she deems it necessary?

That's where I stopped reading.
That man is plain stupid!
Why would these nincompoops be threatening others with war whenever they say they don't want to be part of this pseudo-union?
The north doesn't want to lose out of SW oceans, Niger Delta oil well, and juicy jobs in the south (NNPC, DPR, NPA, etc).
Yeye dey smell!

The reason hausas will fight with their last blood is because they know it won't favor them at all should Nigeria break up,they are pained and that's why they threatened war,I am amazed at their reserved attitudes these days, hausas we know fight over stupid things but now despite the killing of them in different part of the country they still remain peaceful, sincerely speaking should Nigeria break up,walahi humanitarian crises will be on the high side in that region,an average hausas will do everything to migrate illegally to the west or east, the heat will be too much for them

Oga, with all due respect, the reasons you gave for one Nigeria is sheer rubbish. The only reason the Fulani north will die ontop one Nigeria is because they benefit the most.

So if I choose to chart my own course, away from a dysfunctional country, it means I am calling for war? Talk about a primitive mindset.

Northern Nigeria will never support secession calls because there's nothing wrong with the extant structure in the country.

Of course you can’t see anything wrong with the structure, when the fraudulent constitution favorably placed the parasite northern region over the south region.

Buhari achieved his goal by making sure that 85% power and resource control is in the hand of northerners.

Northerners will do everything to maintain the status quo, any individual or group who try to change it will be killed and jailed by army and police controlled by northerners

If you don't want Nigeria to break up, it is very simple.

Give up your undue privileges and make the union more fairer.

Concede to a restructuring and electoral reforms.

It is this their lame statements that is most annoying, that Nigeria is Ok as it is. How dare you?

After 6 decades of shenanigans, we still have no sense of direction, and is nearly back to square one.

For me, If we want to continue the Nigeria project, there is need to discuss it and agree. The idea of taking advantage of current Nigeria warped system to the detriment of others, is untenable.

The ACF should not worry.

Mouth does not create unity, it is action. We will see how much more the country will last if they keep pushing their terrorist to attack our communities. You can try it in the SW, but not in SE.

Your strength, the MB/NC have now realized how evil you are and they have aligned with Igbos.

The Fulani backed Nigerian Army cannot kill everyone, it is absolutely impossible.

Ipob and MB/NC diasporas should intensify effort on the diplomatic front to alienate the accursed country from their traditional allies.

How can we allow just 4 million Fulanis with their forked-tongued partners in the region of the fallen demon enslave the SE and MB? It should not happen under our watch.
