How Do You Determine Seniority With Staff On The Same Level And Step? by Unityp: 1:50pm On May 10, 2021
Two staff in one of the Federal Ministries got employment letter the same time, with the same grade level and step, both of them did documentation/assumption of duty the same day.One did in the morning while the other did his in the afternoon but the time was not recorded.
Now the question is how do you determine seniority between this two on the nominal roll?Pls admin gurus in the civil service should help out here because this is exactly what a friend is passing through in her place of work.

The one who first submitted his filled forms and had his name written first in the list is the senior.
If their names were written down while issueing them their employment letters, the one who first wrote down his name is the senior.

In other words, their serial number on the register will determine their seniority.

I think it should be record based

Their individual achievements and records should come to play

How each has improved himself in acquiring more training, certificates and more experience outside the normal work routine

Like some people will use their leave to acquire extra certificates or attend online classes

Those are the individual efforts that should also come into play

Depending on the organisation, there'd be different cadres (professional, manager, supervisor, technician/analyst), grades/levels (A-Z, 0-9) and then they've got steps. You can have the same cadre and level but different steps usual (Steps 1-9). This is determined by performance during an interview or internal performance review and assessment.

Wahala be like bicycle.
We Africans get wahala, can't we just do our jobs as specified in our job descriptions and collect our salaries without the need for a baseless discrepancy for seniority.
Funniest thing is they are on the same grade level and earn the same pay yet looking for seniority

Rule of thumb, the person whose name was recorded first is the senior. The admin people in her Office know what to do. She can also contact FCSC and OHCSF

The first slave between the two to submit his or her documents is the senior slave.

Every slave in the Civil Service is graded based on their Resumption Dates on a First Come First Serve basis.

Seniority will be established through their Staff ID Numbers.

The one who first registered will usually have a number that precedes the other. He submitted his file first and normally would receive a file ID which in many organizations will transform to the staff ID.

Staff Identity Numbers are usually serial.

It is also not true that because they are unconfirmed or not promoted, there is no senior. This is absolutely untrue. If both of them are nominated for an exercise the one who is considered senior assumes the position of Team Lead and responsible to ensure that the exercise is properly executed.

Well, seniority in the scenario painted above is judged by the ID card number. The number that comes first is the senior.

It's also determined by the file number. If your file number is PM/3334. Your are senior to PM/3335.

Same level and same salary = no seniority
Same level and diff salary = seniority
Diif level and same salary = no seniority
Diff level and diff salary = seniority

Eg. Someone in level 9 earning 90k while someone in level 12 earning 60k who is the senior?

Monthly income determine seniority in a place of work...

I rest case shocked shocked grin grin
