One hopes that Obiano remembers that this project was both for an international airport and an airport city project.

The airport city will accelerate international standard physical development and attract international companies to Anambra as much as the international airport itself.

The best part is that the airport city will not cost the state one kobo. All they need is to sign the MOU with a reputable realtor company and another Awka Millenium city will berth at the new airport city site.

What is happening in Onitsha? The whole of Onitsha roads are blocked. No coming in no going out. Tankers have blocked the whole road alleging that “obiano boys” assaulted their colleague. I don’t know if death was involved.

This is very bad...the days activities will be crippled if the Governor doesn’t act fast and call warring parties to order. What nonsense is this in Anambra state..shit!

Anambra International Airport: A Study In Financial Prudence

Since the test-landing of two commercial aircraft and a corporate jet at Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport on April 30, 2021, the nation has been ecstatic about the incredible progress at Nigeria’s most modern airport. Apart from being the first time jet planes have ever landed in Anambra State, the airport has seized the national imagination on account of its being built up to global standards in just 15 months without a loan from any institution anywhere in the world. This is a very impressive record anywhere.

It is regrettable, however, that this stupendous accomplishment by the people and Government of Anambra State has not gone down well with a coterie of politically exposed persons who are determined to ruin their own state, all in the name of the gubernatorial vote in the state which will hold on November 6, 2021. The shadowy characters have alleged, for instance, that a whopping two billion dollars has been spent on the airport, which has yet to be completed.

Two billion dollars translates to nine hundred and sixty billion naira, almost a trillion naira. This amount is far in excess of the combination of Anambra State budgets in almost the last 10 years. This is obviously taking fiction too far. It is preposterous. The peddlers of this rumour are not intelligent. The size of the 2021 budget is one hundred and forty billion naira, the biggest in our state’s history, while the size of the 2020 budget was one hundred and thirty seven billion naira.

The budgetary provision for the airport in the 2020 budget was eight billion naira. And the provision in the 2021 budget is fifty million naira. The 2021 financial year is far from gone and the airport is still not completed. Therefore, the budgetary provision for this year is not yet exhausted. Even if the total amount for the airport is added to that of last year, it will come to eight billion and fifty million naira. It has to be noted that there are ministries, departments and agencies, which are directly and indirectly involved in the airport development. The Ministry of Works, for example, is building roads and bridges, among others, leading to the airport and within the airport.

It may cost about fifty million dollars to complete the first phase of this grand airport which is in a class of its own. In other words, it is nothing near the almost one trillion naira which the political propagandists who hate Anambra State with a passion are bandying about.

They will leave nothing to chance in the determination to discredit the state and ruin the homeland of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Francis Cardinal Arinze, Professor K.O. Dike, Professor Chinua Achebe, Dr Nwafor Orizu, Sir Louis Ojukwu, Olauda Equiano and many other world-class achievers.

The State Government has made it an article of faith to limit expenditures to budgetary provisions. The result is the humungous fiscal discipline which has enabled the state to carry out projects and programmes which, as the Joint National Assembly Committee on Aviation publicly stated during its inspection of Anambra International Cargo/Passenger Airport on March 27, 2021, even richer states like petroleum-bearing ones are unable to execute.

No wonder, on August 31, 2020, BudGIT, funded by the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, published a report showing Anambra and petroleum-rich Rivers State have the best fiscal responsibility indices of all 36 states in Nigeria plus the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

If not for the prudent financial management of the state’s lean resources, the airport could have cost two billion dollars. Maybe this is the amount which would have been expended on it if the project had been handled by the shadowy politicians whom the great Chinua Achebe most memorably described as “renegades who want to turn my homeland of Anambra State into a bankrupt and wretched fiefdom”.

God bless Anambra State, the Light of the Nation.

Anambra Govt Unveils Ultra-modern International Market At Isiagu, Awka South Council Area

Anambra state government has unveiled a ten thousand capacity shops ultra-modern international market at Isiagu, Awka South Local Government Area.

The project which is a Public Private Partnership, PPP, driven by a private firm, in partnership with a commercial bank, is designed with modern facilities.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Willie Obiano, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, explained that it was part of his administrations fifty years developmental plan, tagged vision 2070 and geared towards making the state a hub for economic activities and social stable society.

Governor Obiano called for more investors into the state, stressing that his administration has provided enabling environment for all investors, indigenes and non-indigenes to thrive in their economic and social activities.

The project, signed in 2017, when completed, would have ten thousand modern lockup shops, car parks, schools, banks, administrative buildings, pedestrian crossover, and others.

Earlier, the Anambra State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Chief Uche Okafor, and the Managing Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, Chief Jide Ikeakor, posited that the markets would boost economic activities in the South East region, and urged understanding between investors and host community for speedy actualization of the project.

Anambra can generate tens of billions of naira annually from levies on trucks passing through Anambra state. The position of Anambra as the gateway to the east should be leveraged upon to generate IGR as oil revenues dry up. What should be worked out however is the mode of collection. Though many of those truck drivers are stubborn and will like to speed away when flagged down but a system to track them through their plate numbers can be developed to arrest and prosecute them for tax evasion.

On what basis exactly!?!
Must nigerians suffer themselves!?!
More reason Nigerians die young.
We only think of ways to scuffle ourselves.

On what basis are you taxing and pulling up rubbish levies? Bc you're gateway!?! Hope when biafra is achieved and the niger Delta decides to do same, hope you won't cry foul.

You wanna start exploiting truck drivers carrying goods. No solid infrastructure, no maintenance, no night and day security. End of the day na u and I go suffer bc those item prices will eventually shoot up and you will blame buhari for your self incurred inflation. Who is now suffering!?!

Pls stop reasoning backwards.

It a good thing to build the said market at Isiagu *But* they should make sure they dualize Ringroad/Isiagu - Eke Nibo for future proposes. I rest my case

If they must be levied then ensuring they pay is a piece of cake. Just provide a place where they can drive into and get their tickets on entry into the state. Then the tickets will be demanded for at exit points of the state. Failure to provide the ticket or proof of payment of levy would attract a stiff penalty.
Collection of levies on the road by touts is so barbaric. It is part of what gives Lagos its jungle reputation. I'm surprised it is still happening in Anambra.

Obiano brought the tout culture to Anambra by awarding parks, markets and keke registration to individuals. How come touts are few in Enugu? Because all buses load within parks, because keke is registered by government authority and because markets are controlled.

Under Obiano Onitsha is reverting to a jungle. Awka the quiet capital is seeing proliferation of filthy Street trading, illegal loading and cultism.

Anambra Transport Ministry Registers Prospective Airport Taxi Operators

The Chairman Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Transport, Honourable Patrick Udeoba, says the Ministry of Transport is currently registering any person who wishes to operate an airport taxi at the International Cargo and Passenger Airport Umueri, Anambra-East council area of Anambra state.

Honourable Udeoba said the coming of the airport has created job opportunities for Anambra citizens, and said that interested persons for airport taxi operation should find their way to the Ministry of Transport for further details on how to be enrolled into the newborn economy.

The Lawmaker, who represents the Anambra-West state constituency in the legislature, said it was a welcome development and that youths should catch in on the golden opportunity to empower themselves as more jobs would emanate from the airport.

According to him, the airport at Umueri would be officially opened to the general public in a couple of months and that business opportunities which would spring up in the area cannot be overstressed as many youths would be gainfully employed.

He said regardless of the cynicism and criticism of malignant forces, Governor Obiano did exceedingly well by building the airport for everyone to access including political antagonists, adding that the governor also built two bridges in Anambra-West constituency.

The lawmaker observed that Anambra state had waited patiently for the Onitsha seaport to become a reality but all to no avail, until Governor Willie Obiano took the bull by the horn and built the airport at Umueri to ease the difficulties of doing business amongst traders in Anambra and the entire southeast region.

Okonjo-Iweala attacks Soludo, says he’s Nigeria’s worst CBN governor ever

The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Wednesday took the former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Chukwuma Soludo, to the cleaners over his criticism of President Goodluck Jonathan’s management of the country’s economy, saying his comments amounted to committing “intellectual hara-kiri”.

The Minister, who spoke through her Special Adviser on Media, Paul Nwabuikwu, accused Mr. Soludo of single-handedly mismanaging the country’s banking sector between May 2004 and May 2009 and plunging the country into “an incredible accumulation of liabilities that will cost tax payers about N5.67 trillion”.

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, apparently livid, described the former CBN governor as “an embittered loser in the Nigerian political space” who is “so derailed” to “commit intellectual harakiri by deliberately misquoting economic facts and maliciously turning statistics on their head to justify a hatchet job”.

“Soludo has shamelessly pandered to so many past leaders that Nigerians are asking one more time – what position is Soludo gunning for now?” she asked.

“There is definitely an issue of character with Prof. Charles Soludo and his desperate search for power and relevance in Nigeria. Nigerians should therefore beware of so-called intellectuals without character and wisdom because this combination is fatal,” she added.
