Who knows the principle of redundancy as stated in section 20 of Labour Act, Cap L 1 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) ?

I don't understand yet

20. (1) In the event of redundancy-

(a) the employer shall inform the trade union or workers' representative concerned of the reasons for and the extent of the anticipated redundancy;

(b) the principle of "last in, first out" shall be adopted in the discharge of the particular category of workers affected, subject to all factors of relative merit, including skill, ability and reliability; and

(c) the employer shall use his best endeavours to negotiate redundancy payments to any discharged workers who are not protected by regulations made under subsection (2) of this section.

(2) The Minister may make regulations providing, generally or in particular cases, for the compulsory payment of redundancy allowances on the termination of a worker's employment because of his redundancy.

(3) In this section "redundancy" means an involuntary and permanent loss of employment caused by an excess of manpower.

El rufai is right on this one. However, there should be some form of compensation for the retrenched.

From the resolution, its a big win for Kaduna. Other governors would implement same in their states once Kaduna falls through. Even the FG.

El rufai might be annoying sometimes but he is a visionary leader with balls!
Your main concern is the civil service, how much do they even pay them, can the short vile man in kaduna sustain his family with #30,000,but you want to take that away from them, not that the money from their salaries will be used to build industries where they will work o. The short vile man should confess that he wants to start saving for 2023 election but I assure you, over ambition will definitely kill him.if the short devil is genuine in cutting cost,it won't be from the civil service but from political appointees,it's only in Nigeria that we have personal assistant to every political office holder, haba, whats their use,and they pay them nothing less than #150,000 but here u are, accomplice or maybe political appointee to the short vile man, while my advise for u is to retract your steps for the consequences of supporting evil is grevious.

With all the people in the civil service, its still not working. We must make these tough decisions for Nigeria to work.

The Nigerian government is not an NGO. Even companies downsize when they’re not profitable. A situation where money that meant to service and develop a whole state is being shared amongst a small amount of people in the name of civil servants can not continue.

Most states are borrowing to pay salaries, paying half or owing for so many months. A lot are in debt, how long will this continue? Kaduna is paying the new minimum wage and the Governor has stated he wants to pay even more but needs a qualified, right-sized workforce.

Go to local and state govt offices. Most of the workers are just there doing nothing or not much to warrant full employment. Most of the ones that are even working are not offering any value instead they have messed up and corrupted the system.

Didn’t you see scripts of the simple test conducted for teachers in Kaduna some years back? People who cant write an application letter or pass exams of the same wards they teach were drawing salaries. Tell me what fraud is?

l like your objectivity. This is actually the situation in most LGs up North. Most of the LGs are populated by people who have no business being there. But because of the political repercussions most governors are unwilling to stamp out the rot. One good thing about El Rufai is that has the guts to confront the issue head-on even though his methods are usually ruthless.

Same applies down south

It is still a victory for him
This isn't politics man no one is losing, a lot of those civil servants have in service long before Atiku/Obj gave him appointment. He should do the right thing.

Why are people justifying this ludicrous claim that 80% of income goes to salaries.
He is selling the narrative using only FAAC allocation.
Forgetting IGR which has tripled since he became governor.
He even made claims just few weeks before he started the sackings that government can pay salaries even without allocation from Abuja.
So what suddenly changed within weeks?
Ok even if redundancy is observed why not pay them their entitleents but no even those sacked as back as 2016 are yet to see a dime.

but really the gonment is right though i'm not Hell Rufai's fan. The rot in the workspace in the North is really terrible especially Loku gonment(Local Government).
They dont come to work and you seen them in large number appearing 2 or 3 days to the end of the month loitering around the secretariat only to be see sharing and distributing money in Large sacks. At least i witnessed that while in the north.

Aswear, the only region where local government offices are not opened until 11 am and closed around 3 pm.

I know this during my stay in the north.
The only time you see them in their numbers is when there are things to share, things like sewing machine, popcorn machine/majer, generating set etc.
And when there is a validation exercise.

Did you read all the news?

FG ordered* the NLC, that henceforth there should be no further industrial action.

Normally, is it proper for FG to order them not to strike or continue the strike?
