CAF postpones 2022 AWCON Qualifiers
19th May 2021
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) Qualifiers slated to take place from June 7-15, 2021.

In a letter sent to General Secretaries by CAF, it was confirmed that the qualifiers have been postponed just like that of the men’s World Cup Qualifiers due to COVID-19 conditions and restrictions in some countries.

“CAF Organizing Committee of Women Football decided to postpone the qualifiers of the women Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 In line with the postponement of the Men World Cup Qualifiers.
The reasons for the postponements were based on the actual conditions of certain stadiums in Africa and the restrictions related to COVID19.” The letter read.

“The 1st round will now take place in the FIFA window of 18 to 26 October 2021 and the second round will take place in the FIFA window of 14th to 23rd February 2022.”

Super Falcons of Nigeria’s clash with Black Queens of Ghana headlines the first round draw of Morocco 2022 AWCON Qualifiers as one of the two West African Women’s football powers will not take part in the next AWCON as well as the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Even before this postponement by CAF, NFF already wrote to CAF for the postponment of the Nigeria Vs Ghana game to enable them participate in the US international Friendly tournament..

By the way Jamaica had already named a provisional squad of 31 players with over 5 player's from the English Women Super League..

I personally have Onome Club game's on my System, I stream their game every weekend and midweek. She's still very much okay and might play till over 40yrs with the way she's going.. though the pace may no longer be there but her positional awareness is 100%

Asin this Woman na legit Defender
Coach Randy is already working on other possible options who can replace her both home based and foreign born.

Ucheibe Wins First League Title In Europe As SL Benfica Celebrate First Liga BPI Crown
Posted on May 22, 2021

Christy Ucheibe has achieved one of her career dreams in Portugal as SL Benfica emerged Portuguese Liga BPI champions following a 3-0 victory over rivals Sporting Lisbon on Saturday.

SL Benfica had missed the chance to deservedly celebrate their first title following the cancellation of the Liga BPI due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, although were handed the slot to represent the country in the recent Women’s Champions League season won by Barcelona.

Going into the last tie of the season, Benfica had enjoyed the lead at the top of the Championship table with 36 points from 13 games, and were needed at least a draw against their closest challengers Sporting Lisbon to guarantee their first ever national league title.

Oshoala reveals new target after winning Spanish League title with Barcelona
The Nigeria youth international started on the bench by coach Filipa Patao but later came as a second half substitute to ensure her side silenced their hosts to celebrate a history success.

Despite a draw will seal their title dreams, the visitors got off to a bright start when Cloe Lacasse came through the left before putting a cross to Nycole Raysla who eventually fired past goalkeeper Ines Pereira to open the scoring for Benfica in the fifth minute in Alvalade.

The visitors defended well against the pouring attack of Sporting as they went into the break with their narrow lead but could not add to their tally until Canadian star Lacasse found the breakthrough in the 83rd minute just few moments after Ucheibe came on to replace Andreia Faria.

Ucheibe featured for the final 11 minutes of the encounter and played a huge part of her side’s late incredible title triumph over Sporting Lisbon.

The Nigeria midfielder had joined the club on three-year deal in February 2020 from Swedish club Assi, where she inspired the Elitettan side to win the Norrbetten Cup during her one-year stay.

Despite only cleared to play in the 2020 summer, she continued in her rich vein of performances, helping the Portuguese side to three trophies, including Portuguese Taça da Liga titles twice.

Following Saturday’s triumph, Ucheibe celebrated her first league title as a professional footballer, contributing four goals and two assists in all competitions in her side’s campaign.
By the virture of clinching the title, Ucheibe and her Portuguese club will also become the country’s sole representatives in the 2021-22 Women’s Champions League season.

She also becomes the second member of Nigeria’s U20 team at the 2018 World Cup in France to achieve the feat after Anam Imo won the 2019 Damallsvenskan title with Rosengard in Sweden.

She will be hoping her expliots will earn her a future international call-up following her botched chance with the Super Falcons at the Turkish Women’s Cup in February.

Sunday The Heroine As African Trio Helps Maccabi Kiryat Gat Reclaim Israeli Ligat Al Title

Nigeria’s Uchechi Sunday, Cameroon’s Genevieve Mbeleck and Ghana's Sherifatu Sumaila starred as Maccabi Kiryat Gat reclaimed the Israeli Ligat Al title, after Sunday’s 1-0 win over ASA Tel Aviv.
The African trio had joined the Israeli side last October and have been in fine form this season, playing crucial roles in Kiryat Gat winning the first-ever Israeli Athena Cup title in April.

Before the Tel Aviv clash, all that was needed by Kiryat Gat to claim another title was to avoid defeat, having garnered 40 points – three above closest title rivals Bnot Netanya, with two games left to play.

The solitary strike by Nigeria international Uchechi in the 31st minute of the highly charged encounter was all Eyal Sade’s team required to guarantee their third league triumph in history with a game to spear.

Herione of the match Nigeria’s Uchechi was in action for the opening 60 minutes and got her seventh league goal of the season and 12th in all competitions for Sade’s team. Meizhou Huijun

Cameroon’s Mbeleck, who boasts of 11 league goals and 14 in all competitions this term featured for 88 minutes in the triumph along with Ghana’s Sumaila, who had managed just two goals.

The league success saw Kiryat Gat ending a four-year wait to reclaim the Isreali title and will now represent the country’s topflight in the 2021-22 Uefa Women’s Champions League.

Despite winning two titles already, the African trio and Kiryat Gat will look to complete a treble when they face rivals Maccabi Emek Hefer in the Isreali Women’s Cup final clash on May 27.

After the Cup final, they will seek to wrap up the season on a high in a dead rubber match with Ironi Ramat HaSharon three days later.

SERIOUS KNEE INJURY FOR AYINDE
Inner midfielder Halimatu Ayinde injured herself in the away match against Häcken just over a week ago.
Now the news has come and it is clear that the Nigerian will miss the rest of the season.

We got to know her as a very strong ball winner in the inner midfield and last season she convinced so much that she was crowned United Player of the Year.

But in a somewhat strange random situation against the champion team Häcken in the OBOS Damallsvenskan last Saturday, Halimatu ended up wrong and that it was serious was seen quickly when even an opponent directly waved for assistance from the bench.

After undergoing a magnetic X-ray examination, the news came about the nature of the injury and as feared, it will be a long time away from football for our star.
It has been shown that the anterior cruciate ligament and the meniscus are damaged in the knee. This means that surgery is necessary and it is followed by a long rehabilitation.
So the appearance in the sixth round was Halimatu Ayinde's last in 2021.

Of course, we wish Halimatu Ayinde good luck with the operation and then the fight to return to a role as a strong force in the central midfield.
