A one off Investment of N10 million in United Capital fixed income fund in January 2013 is now worth about N30 million

In 2013 exchange rate was N160 per USD.
N10m Naira was equivalent of $62500.

Today exchange rate at N500 makes $62500 equivalent to N31250000.

In 2013 someone that invested N10m Naira in USD at N160 today the investment is worth N31250000.

That's over 150% profit.

It was N180 in the black market in 2013 and now about N500 in the black market.

Official rate was N160 in 2013 and official rate is now about N420.

Definitely if you are planning to have forex expenses in the future you Invest in forex expenses.

If you are planning to have a future Naira expenses eg University education of you children, buying of a house, personal retirement plan, buying of a car etc. You are free to invest in Naira assets or whatever suits you.

The most important thing is that your money should be working, your Investments are generating cash flow and you are diversified.

The various asset classes or ventures stockmarket, money market, bonds, retirement savings account, Eurobonds, real estate, small businesses, forex denoninated Investments etc have their roles in having a diversified portfolio

Never wrote about the comparison of a fixed income fund and keeping forex, did I ?

Fixed Income Funds have done an average return of over 14% per annum in the last 10 years and above.

There is a reason why 65% of Pension Fund Managers monies are invested in fixed income securities. It is because of its safety and consistency.

A person who invested N10 million in 2013 for the University education of his children in 10 years time in Nigeria has enough money to finance the project in 2023. If possible the children might even have start up capital for his business after graduation or finance his postgraduate studies.

If you are planning to finance their education in the US, you Invest in Eurobonds.

At N160 official rate in 2013 and N420 official rate in 2020 your N10 million is now N26 million.

At black market price of N180 in 2013 and N500 black market price , your N10 million is now N27.7 million

Not a comparison.

Different assets and Investment vehicles have their roles in a diversified portfolio, personal finance and financial planning

He assumed you buy and keep USD. Imagine, if the USD was invested in a dollarised fixed income that generates say 4 - 5% per annum?

Picking in tranches
Picked at 28.30 last week...
It wont come down if it ends in June ...
At this price range...
Q2 report and interim dividend
Should push the price up....

Just musing.

He would have done better buying FG bonds at 15% coupon and reinvesting 50% of the coupons in dividend paying and appropriately priced stocks on a regular basis thereby compounding and diversifying his Investment income from 2013 till date

1 USD ($) would be exchanged to N550 Naira before end of the year if care is not taken with the way things are going. To make a better returns and beat inflations, one’s investment in NSE has to generate between 30-40% yr/yr out. Anyway, it is a movie everyone is watching. Present rate is N510 to 1$
