Georginio Wijnaldum has joined Paris-Saint Germain on a free transfer from Liverpool

Barcelona and Bayern Munich had both been trying to sign the midfielder, who will captain the Netherlands at this summer's Euros.

Wijnaldum, who made 237 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Newcastle in July 2016, won the Champions League and Premier League during his five-year spell at Anfield.

The 30-year-old was given a guard of honour in his final Liverpool game last month - the 2-0 home win over Crystal Palace - which guaranteed Jurgen Klopp's side a spot in next season's Champions League.

An emotional Wijnaldum told Sky Sports after the game: "I'm fighting against my tears right now.
"I've said that the people in Liverpool and the club, my team-mates, have shown me love during the five years, and I will miss them.

"I hoped to play many more years for the club but unfortunately things went different."

Born in Rotterdam, and a product of the Sparta Rotterdam youth academy, he played for two of the biggest clubs in his homeland in Feyenoord (135 matches, 25 goals) and then PSV Eindhoven (154 matches, 56 goals) with whom he won the 2014-15 Eredivisie title. After a season at Newcastle United, 'Gini' joined Liverpool FC in the summer of 2016. The versatile midfielder won the 2019 UEFA Champions League with the Reds and the English Premier League crown in 2019-2020. He made 237 appearances and scored 22 goals for the Reds, also lifting the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2020.

Georginio Wijnaldum has also become, at 30 years of age, a key member of the Dutch national team in recent years where he has earned 75 caps, netting 22 goals and helped the Netherlands finish third at the FIFA World Cup 2014. Before that, Gini had represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level.

"Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is a new challenge for me," explained Georginio Wijnaldum after signing his contract. "I'm joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project. Paris Saint-Germain have proved how good they are in recent years and I am convinced that together, with our supporters, we can go even further and higher."

barca problem are defenders n a striker.....aguero is on board n he should just face defense...
I know barca are broke BT it doesn't mean koeman should flood barca with holland players bcoz of free deal.

outsmarted wat?? he preferred more cash dt PSG gave him n i dnt see him displacing busquet de jong n pedri because even pjanic is waiting on d bench...
I also hear juve are offering depay 3m euros more than wat barca is giving n he may end up in juve n i dnt av any problem bcoz I dnt know wat kowman sees in those players, mayb its bcoz its his contry men..
players like aguero n garcia easily ended up in barca bcox they know barca problem n dey would get game times...not players dt are influenced by cash..
