You are right. It's really hard bringing people together for positive efforts. In Western societies, people connect and network easily. We can start somewhere - both of us - and hope others will join. Drop your twitter handle, mail or any private means so we may connect. Thanks for the reply.

There are startups founders looking for cofounders, but most Nigerian programmers want "sharp sharp" money. They aren't ready to take the risk of working for future equity. This must change. So many ideas in me that I prefer to start implementing them outside Nigetia with stable, honest and deligent cofounders in the western world, than meeting unreliable Nigerian programmers. If those guys who started Paystack weren't patient, they wouldn't have made it.

Wozniak was the guy who Steve Jobs actually worked with to get started. There are brilliant Nigerians with innovative brains. They can see the future. But calling programmers and partnering with them is a big risk because most are unreliable. Very rubbish set of people. Maybe it is hunger that is their problem, I do not know.

If I call one of them now, it's rubbish attitude I will get like they are illiterate artisans. A beg make you learn to be patient. So much billions of dollars in startups. The US and UK are so into Nigeria. This is what you guys still do not realise. And you need to haave good businesses strategists and experts in startups to move you up. But you must learn sacrifice, work very hard, be honest and patient.

Goodluck to you all!

Do you also think it's easy to get a programmer to partner with in the west? Which extremely good programmer will leave his six-figure dollar income job to run a startup that has a 90 percent chance of failure. Besides with regards to programming, most guys in this section are juniors and upcoming. If you are very serious in building a startup, you need a senior developer and senior talent is expensive. Senior developers dont even apply to jobs. Jobs apply to them from everywhere in the world.

Sit down there and be talking rubbish. You have just buttressed my point that you are mostly money motivated here. Go and look at the millions of dollars startups are taking from angel investors and incubators. You are talking rubbish. Go and learn the meaning of cofounder. I am sure someone like you will divert investors money to buy land in your village and import cars for yourself and live at large. Rubbish. You are just money driven. It's simple as ABC. It's easier to get a loyal cofounder in the west. All that is needed is for the idea to be great. You are just money driven.

That is a lie. it is so not easy to get a co-founder in the west. Most startups are started by engineers themselves. If you can't code and you want to start a company you need to have a lot of money and be very generous with equity. Besides what stops the developer from building out your so-called idea for himself and using it. Bill gates was an amazing coder when he started microsoft. Him and paul allen built out so many of the first programs for microsoft. Google's sergey brin was an amazing coder, dropped out of a Phd at stanford to pursue google. Mack zuckerberg had been coding since he was 10 years old. If you cant code yourself have money and even the money doesnt guarantee shit.

70% of this great startups you are talking about didn't hire cofounder(can one even hire a cofounder self ) most of the great co founder we hear of started as friends with the CEO even Paystack you are talking of those guys were classmates even their first designer was a friend of theirs. I can't even see how one will hire a cofounder grin grin

Keep talking rubbish like i said. Bill Gates that everyone knows that its Jobs' idea that made him rich. Keep talking rubbish. Being smart and intuitive is what makes a good business and not a good programmer. It is not easy to get a cofounder anywhere, but if you get in the western world (most likely with an Indian who has been living ther for long or with even the indigenes there), they are faithful. My point is that you guys here are not. You are mostly money driven and "gbos gbas" kinda people. And you are a typical example. I pity your partners. Lol.

You do not need a lot money. All you need is a good cofounder. That's all. Mark has been coding for long but with zero business skill. He had to be taught. Let me tell you...the real business owner is the man with the idea, and not with the programmer. Take it or leave it. And I am telling you. One can easily get a good cofounder to partner with and do something small. Show investors. And then money rolls in. Then one builds his team. Go and make research of all the guys who have made it. They dont waste money outsourcing programming. It is wrong. A smart owner will never do that. How can you start a business and you want them to start with paying heavy cash for what they are building which will come with many adjustments. Outsource it? Come on. You are a real money driven person. Mark my words, you will not grow to be a leader with this your mentality. You will just be an employee who will be paid, used and dumped. Take it from me. Change your attitude. Change your orientation. Dream big.

When Brin wanted to take over Google, he couldn't use his brain. Do you know who he consulted? Steve Jobs. And Jobs lectured him and put him through not minding Google is a competitor. Listen to me, Jobs is the master of all masters. His death took us like 100 years back technologically; yet, we arent aware yet. If that man was alive today, forget it.....we would have gone further. Elon is another example. Is he a genius with coding?

Listen to me, the era of programmers doing it at the top has ended. Intuitive boys are the ones bringing innovations on board. It is why Canada and UK has Startups visa now just like most European nations.

Yes, equity is the thing. Even you are a coder, you are likely to give out equity. No programmer can easily combine being the CEO and programming. It's not easy. Your Mark coded last ...maybe on his bed in Stanford. Maybe I'm wrong. Lol. Being a CEO is a tougher job. And if you are a programmer and a CEO, you will most likely leave coding.

See, no intuitive person has the time to start learning coding. Never!

The best strategy which I know will work if well implented in Nigeria is lean Startup. We create MVP (a tiny version of the big picture), and use it to get fund. My friend got $1.2million dollars in the UK. He is Russian, but moved to the UK around 2014. And he isn't a programmer. He knows what he wants, and he gets a cofounder. He has 2 startups now. But here...its "money money money". Yet na peanut you dey collect. Instead of you all to sacrifice develop a plan and make it work.

Please, I cannot argue further. Do what is good for you. God bless!

You dont hire a cofounder. You get such into agreeing with the vision. And after starting, did they not get someone with the business brain to make it work? Go and research them well.

We understand your point but here is it: the Nigeria programmer as a case study need the money to pay bill/basics first, like light/internet connectivity and perhaps a good work machine.

I agree with you. Yeah! They should be supported which is normal. But trust me, the Nigerian programmer will start like that, and after he has started, he will be acting like he's doing the other person a favor. He can even abandon the work, will not meet deadlines, and will start demanding more. My point is that the vision is in such person. This is my point. And they all end up miserable and poor.

The major problem starts when the first pay check from an investor lands. He wants to increase his reward fast. He wants a huge salary fast. He wants to move to an expensive area, he wants to quickly buy a new car, etc.

Read my comments well. I think Nigerians are smart. I think you guys can be great founders amd cofounders. We are brilliant in Nigeria. There is something Facebook has seen to be investing so high in Nigeria. Here is my point again: most of you are money motivated. Read the comments I have made. Read well and digest. Them, read again the responses of your colleagues. They proved me right that they are after today's money only.

Most programmers cannot do it on their own until they get someone with an innovative brain. Yet, they want to be collecting money from start ups like they are dealing with already well established companies. And yet, they cannot get offer into big companies. They prefer to struggle looking for who to pay them Amen the money is not there at the initial state. And they waste away. Poor things. Look. The main issue is this: most programmers do not see themselves making it. They only want to be labourers in a big organizations. Nothing stops them from working in a big organisations if they find one and make money for living, while partnering with upcoming boys to build magnificent stuff. But they will demand huge money even from startups. Read the comments above. Their mentality is that only programmers can do it and make it, yet 99.9% of them do not have the business brain which is superior than the programming brain. And they think it's ok.

Also, they think they are the brain doing the job. Lol. They are not the brain. The person with the vision is the brain. The CEO is the brain. The person who looks for fund is the brain. The person who tweaks the products and understudy customers to understand what should be produced is the brain. Steve Jobs stopped the idea of using Focus groups for market research. Why? Because customers do not know what they want. Most of you just know how to write, but you do not know what sells and what is necessarily. You dont know when to persevere or to pivot. You just keep building what customers do not want. But the person pushing the dresm into a bigger one is the real person. He is the brain. And you guys can learn too. No, you want to meet co programmers with your kind of reasoning to even do it more in the old terrible disgusting ways. Failure plus failure is failure time two
Failure times failure is failure raise to power two. And when many failures come together, hahahhaha grin it is failure raise to the power of infinity. cheesy

It's what I have done. Do you know how many of you I have tried? Even to the extent of having contracts. The guys start feeling big like they were doing me favors when they had almost same equity as me. Yet they want me to feed them like Google or Apple while I am funding everying at the initial stage. I always laugh at their stupidity. And as soon I as I dump them, they start looking for ways to return.

You are another example why programmers do not make good business esp in Nigeria. CEOs are at alert. They read and grab fast. From my write up, how did you not get it that my friend isn't into programming? How did you miss that? So, how can he be my cofounder here in Nigeria? Also a good CEO knows PEST and SWOT analysis. If you know how to use these tools, you should understand how culture and other external factors affect the success of businesses. And there are some things foreigners cannot grab fast like indigenes or permanent residents.

Mehn! You guys need to really learn.

You can fit into co-founding positions is you are passionate and committed to the vision. But it is unfortunate that most of you are visionless.

It is what I am saying, you are not skillful in Leadership. There are many places I used words like: mostly, almost all in my posts. This is to say that almost all of you. It is not to generalize it, but to state a well known fact. And read your colleagues responses. Let me show you.

@Noblebrain22, what does this comment sound like? Tell me. And it is on your thread. grin
You are mostly visionless. Failure over failure. Sorry...I am stating the fact and the truth as it is. Most of you are just unreasonable. You prefer enduring self afflicted poverty. You even call on fellow failures to keep brainstorming ideas with because the mentality is that two programmers can start a successful company. Listen to me, if you do not get a person with the business brain, and most likely he will be the boss, you arent going anywhere..

Let me tell you something: I strongly believe the era of forum is coming to end end like how yahoo MSN and AOL came to a halt in leading the world of information. It was like yahoo and msn messengers would be king for very long. It was a real savior to cut of the price of telephone calls and the duration of letter writing. Imagine, they were in charge of emails too. And then they were even more popular for internet news. They had business and investment stuff too. What didnt they have? I saw nothing coming again until Facebook and Twitter came into play. And then, WhatsApp and telegram. Gradually those messengers packed up. Even their emails addresses are not official again. Schools and offices came up with theirs and then products are offered at discount prices these days for people with official emails. Then, google went futher to make his emails available and easily merged with other products by making it available and useful for automatic registration for usernames of products.

Things change. Only people with innovative brains can do it. This is why the success rate of starts up is low. Programmers always want to be their own CEOs and they always fail. Lol. It is extremely hard to think as a programmer and think as an innovator. Your job demands mental ability and stressful enough to code. To add seeing ahead to it is a lot of job. In fact, I dont see it in one person. Anyone with the two abilities always drop the coding ability because it is always easier and lesser. A beg, make it easy for innovative thinkers because they have too much to think about. The last of their worry should be the cofounder. But in Nigeria, the Co founders who are the programmers are the main reason startups fail. They should create their own big apple businesses and start making money there if they dont want to sacrifice with the en with the visions.

Men! Am I glad to meet you!
You have just UnCloth the situation and expose its private part. I love to be friend with you man.
I have great ideas, but I know you definitely can't commence by just fuelling it with money but with sincere and skillful cofounders. And this right here is what a lot of us Nigerians misconstrue.
Great write up by the way. (You will make a good writer)

You are right. It's really hard bringing people together for positive efforts. In Western societies, people connect and network easily. We can start somewhere - both of us - and hope others will join. Drop your twitter handle, mail or any private means so we may connect. Thanks for the reply.
oya let's all connect naa

U just told him what i wanted to to tell him.
